ヨハネによる福音書 9

九

1 　さて、道を歩いていた時のこと、イエスは生まれつきの盲人をごらんになりました。
2 　弟子たちが尋ねました。　「先生。　どうしてこの人は、生まれつき目が見えないのです？　本人が罪を犯したからですか。　それとも両親が......？」
3 　「いや、そのどちらでもありません。　ただ神の力が現わされるためです。　4 わたしたちはみな、わたしをお遣わしになった方からいただいた仕事を、急いでやり遂げなければなりません。　もうすぐ夜が来ます。　そうしたら、もう仕事はできないのですから。　5 だが、まだこの世にいる間は、わたしは、光を与え続けましょう。」
6 　こう言われると、イエスは地面につばをし、泥をこね、それを盲人の目に塗って、　7 言われました。　「さあ、シロアムの池に行って、洗い落としなさい」〔「シロアム」とは、「遣わされた者」の意味〕。　その方が言われたとおりにすると、どうでしょう。　ちゃんと見えるようになって戻って来たではありませんか！
8 　近所の人や、彼が盲目のこじきだったことを知っている人はたまげ返り、「これが、あのこじきかい？」と口をそろえて叫びました。
9 　こちらで「そうだ」と言えば、「いや、違う」と言う声も聞こえます。　みな、「あいつのはずはない。　だが実によく似てるな！」と思ったのです。
すると当のこじきが、「なに言ってんだい。　おれだよ」と言いました。
10 　人々はあっけにとられながらも、「いったい全体どうしたんだい。どうやって見えるようになったんだよ」と矢つぎばやに尋ねました。何が起ったのか知りたくてたまらなかったのです。
11 　その男は答えました。　「イエスという方が、泥をこねて、目に塗り、『シロアムの池に行って、泥を洗い落としなさい』と言ったのさ。　それで、そのとおりにすると、見えるようになったんだよ。」
12 　「その人は今どこにいるんだい。」
「さあ、知らないな。」
13 　人々は、男をパリサイ人たちのところへ連れて行きました。　14 ところで、この日は、たまたま安息日でした。　15 パリサイ人たちに事の一部始終を尋ねられて、男は、イエスが目に塗った泥を洗い落とすと見えるようになったいきさつを、くわしく話しました。
16 　パリサイ人のある者は、「そのイエスというやつは、神様から遣わされたんじゃないぞ。　安息日に仕事なんかしたんだからな」ときめつけます。
かと思うと、「だがな......、罪人にすぎない普通の人間に、こんな奇蹟が行なえるだろうか......」と疑問を投げかける者もいます。　意見は真っ二つに分かれました。
17 　しかたなく、その盲目だった男に、「おまえの目を開けてくれた人のことをどう思うか」と問いただしました。
「きっと神様が遣わした預言者ですよ」と男は答えました。
18 　ユダヤ人の指導者たちは、この男が盲目だったことを、どうしても信じようとはしません。　とうとう両親まで呼び出し、　19 確かめることにしました。　「この男は息子だな。　ほんとうに生まれつき見えなかったのか。　だったら、どうして見えるようになった？」
20 　「はい、確かに息子でございます。　この子は生まれつき目が見えませんで......。　21 けれども、どうして見えるようになったのか、どなたがこれの目を開けてくださったのかは、少しも存じません。　どうぞ本人からじかにお聞きくださいまし。　もう一人前の大人ですから、自分で説明できるでしょう。」
22-23 こう言ったのは、ユダヤ人の指導者たちがこわかったからです。彼らはすでに、「イエスはメシヤ（救い主）だ」と言う者は、だれかれの区別なく会堂から除名すると公表していたのです。
24 　指導者たちは、男をもう一度呼び寄せ、きつく申し渡しました。「イエスなんかじゃなく、神様をあがめなさい。　やつは悪党だ。」
25 　「さあ、あの方が善人か悪人かは、わかりませんがね。　これだけは、はっきりしています。　私は今まで見えなかったのに、今は見えるんです。」
26 　「だが、あいつは何をした？　どうやっておまえの目を開けた？」
27 　男はまたかと腹を立て、大声で言いました。　「そのことは、もう話したではありませんかっ！　お聞きにならなかったのですか。　もう一度言えとは、どういうことでしょう。　あの方の弟子にでもなるおつもりで？」
28 　こう言われて、指導者たちは男をののしりました。　「なにっ、おまえこそあいつの弟子のくせに。　われわれはモーセの弟子だ。　29 神様はまちがいなく、モーセにお語りになった。　だが、あいつはどこの馬の骨かわかるもんか！」
30 　「これは驚きました。　あの方は盲人の目を開けることができるんですよ。　なのに、あの方のことは何も知らないとおっしゃる。　31 神様は悪人の言うことはお聞きになりません。　しかし、神様を礼拝し、お心にかなうことを行なう者には、耳を傾けてくださるんじゃありませんか。　32 世の初めからこのかた、生まれつきの盲人の目を開けた人など、いたためしがありません。　33 神様から遣わされた方でなければ、こんなことはできないはずです。」
34 　こうまで言われては、もう我慢ができません。　「このろくでなしめっ！　われわれを教えようとでもいうのかっ！」とどなりつけたあげく、男を追い出してしまいました。
35 　そのいきさつを伝え聞いたイエスは、男をお捜しになり、見つけ出されると、「あなたはメシヤを信じますか」とお聞きになりました。
36 　「先生。　どなたがメシヤ様で？　教えてください。　ぜひ信じたいのです。」
37 　「もうその人に会っているのですよ。　あなたと話しているわたしがメシヤなのです。」
38 　「主よ。　信じます。」男はそう言って、イエスを礼拝しました。
39 　すると、イエスは言われました。　「わたしがこの世に来たのは、心の目の見えない人を見えるようにするため、また、見えると思い込んでいる人に、実は盲目だということを、わからせるためなのですよ。」
40 　ちょうどその場に居合わせたパリサイ人たちが、けげんそうに尋ねました。　「なんですか、じゃあ、私たちも盲目だと言うのか？」
41 　「もしあなたがたが盲目だったら、罪に問われないですんだでしょう。　しかし、何もかもわかっているとあくまで言いはるので、あなたがたの罪はそのまま残るのです。」
良い羊飼いであるイエス

John 9

1 And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?3 Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.4 We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.5 When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,7 and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.8 The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?9 Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.10 They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?11 He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight.12 And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.13 They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.14 Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.15 Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.16 Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them.17 They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.18 The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,19 and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?20 His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:21 but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself.22 These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.24 So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.25 He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.26 They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?27 He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?28 And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.29 We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.30 The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he opened mine eyes.31 We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.32 Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?36 He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?37 Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.39 And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind.40 Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth.
