士師記 10

一○

1 　アビメレクの死後、イスラエルの士師として立てられたのは、ドドの孫、プワの息子トラです。　この人はイッサカル部族の出身で、エフライムの山地にあるシャミルの町に住んでいました。　2 彼は二十三年間、士師としてイスラエルを治めました。　3 彼が世を去ってシャミルに葬られると、ギルアデ出身のヤイルが後継者となり、二十二年間イスラエルを治めました。　4 ヤイルの三十人の息子は、三十頭のろばを乗り回し、ギルアデにある三十の町を所有していました。それは今でも、「ヤイルの町」と呼ばれています。　5 ヤイルは死後、カモンに葬られました。
6 　するとまたもや、イスラエル国民は神様から離れ、バアルやアシュタロテといった異教の神々を拝み、シリヤ、シドン、モアブ、アモン、ペリシテの神々に仕えるようになりました。　そればかりか、神様を礼拝することなど、きれいさっぱりやめてしまったのです。　7-8 このことが、神様の怒りを引き起こさないはずはありません。　神様は直ちに、ペリシテ人とアモン人を動かして、イスラエル人を悩ませたのです。　この両軍は、ヨルダン川の東にあるエモリ人の地ギルアデに攻め入り、　9 さらにユダ、ベニヤミン、エフライムにまで攻撃の手を伸ばしました。　アモン人がヨルダン川を渡り、イスラエルに踏み込んだのです。　攻撃は十八年間も続きました。　10 ついにイスラエル人はたまりかね、神様に救いを求めました。
「私たちはとんでもない罪を犯しました。　自分たちの神様を捨てて、偶像を拝んでおりました」と、罪を告白したのです。
11-12 神様のお答えはこうでした。　「わたしは、エジプト人、エモリ人、アモン人、ペリシテ人、シドン人、アマレク人、マオン人からおまえたちを救ってやったではないか。　これまでいつだって、叫び求めてくれば救い出してやったはずだ。　13 それなのに、おまえたちはわたしを捨て、性懲りもなくほかの神々を拝んでいる。　勝手にするがいい。　もう助けてやらん。　14 行って、新しく選んだ神々にでも助けてもらえ。」
15 　それでも人々は、神様に助けを求め続けました。　「私たちが悪うございました。　どうぞ存分に罰してください。　ただ、もう一度だけ敵の手から救い出していただきたいのです。」
16 　彼らは外国の神々を取り除き、ひたすら神様を礼拝しました。　それで神様も、かわいそうにお思いになったのです。　17 そのころアモン人の軍がギルアデに集結し、ミツパに陣を敷いたイスラエル軍を攻撃しようとしていました。
18 　途方にくれたギルアデの指導者たちは、「いったいだれが、わしらの軍を率いてアモン人と戦ってくれるのか。　その役を買って出る者こそ、わしらの王だ」と話し合っていました。

Judges 10

1 And after Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in the hill-country of Ephraim.2 And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

3 And after him arose Jair, the Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty and two years.4 And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth-jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.5 And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.

6 And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served the Baalim, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook Jehovah, and served him not.7 And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon.8 And they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel that year: eighteen years oppressed they all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.9 And the children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.

10 And the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah, saying, We have sinned against thee, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baalim.11 And Jehovah said unto the children of Israel, Did not I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?12 The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried unto me, and I saved you out of their hand.13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will save you no more.14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.15 And the children of Israel said unto Jehovah, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day.16 And they put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Jehovah; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

17 Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah.18 And the people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
