Chapter 1
Procedures for the Burnt Offering
1 The LORD called to Moses from the Tabernaclet and said to him,
2 “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. When you present an animal as an offering to the LORD, you may take it from your herd of cattle or your flock of sheep and goats.
3 “If the animal you present as a burnt offering is from the herd, it must be a male with no defects. Bring it to the entrance of the Tabernacle so yout may be accepted by the LORD.4 Lay your hand on the animal’s head, and the LORD will accept its death in your place to purify you, making you right with him.t5 Then slaughter the young bull in the LORD’s presence, and Aaron’s sons, the priests, will present the animal’s blood by splattering it against all sides of the altar that stands at the entrance to the Tabernacle.6 Then skin the animal and cut it into pieces.7 The sons of Aaron the priest will build a wood fire on the altar.8 They will arrange the pieces of the offering, including the head and fat, on the wood burning on the altar.
9 But the internal organs and the legs must first be washed with water. Then the priest will burn the entire sacrifice on the altar as a burnt offering. It is a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
10 “If the animal you present as a burnt offering is from the flock, it may be either a sheep or a goat, but it must be a male with no defects.11 Slaughter the animal on the north side of the altar in the LORD’s presence, and Aaron’s sons, the priests, will splatter its blood against all sides of the altar.12 Then cut the animal in pieces, and the priests will arrange the pieces of the offering, including the head and fat, on the wood burning on the altar.
13 But the internal organs and the legs must first be washed with water. Then the priest will burn the entire sacrifice on the altar as a burnt offering. It is a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
14 “If you present a bird as a burnt offering to the LORD, choose either a turtledove or a young pigeon.15 The priest will take the bird to the altar, wring off its head, and burn it on the altar. But first he must drain its blood against the side of the altar.16 The priest must also remove the crop and the featherst and throw them in the ashes on the east side of the altar.
17 Then, grasping the bird by its wings, the priest will tear the bird open, but without tearing it apart. Then he will burn it as a burnt offering on the wood burning on the altar. It is a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

Introduction to the Sacrificial Regulations
1 Then the Lord called to Moses and spoke to himts from the Meeting Tent:s
2 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘Whents someonet among you presents an offeringt to the Lord,t yout must present your offering from the domesticated animals, either from the herd or from the flock.ts
Burnt Offering Regulations: Animal from the Herd
3 “‘If his offering is a burnt offerings from the herd he must present it as a flawless male; he must present it at the entrancet of the Meeting Tent for itst acceptance before the Lord.4 He must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted for him to make atonementt on his behalf.5 Then the one presenting the offeringt must slaughter the bullt before the Lord, and the sons of Aaron, the priests, must present the blood and splasht the blood against the sides of the altar which is at the entrance of the Meeting Tent.6 Next, the one presenting the offeringt must skin the burnt offering and cut it into parts,7 and the sons of Aaron, the priest,s must put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.8 Then the sons of Aaron, the priests, must arrange the parts with the head and the suetss on the wood that is in the fire on the altar.t
9 Finally, the one presenting the offeringt must wash its entrails and its legs in water and the priest must offer all of it up in smoke on the altart – it iss a burnt offering, a gifts of a soothing aroma to the Lord.
Animal from the Flock
10 “‘If his offering is from the flock for a burnt offeringt – from the sheep or the goats – he must present a flawless male,11 and must slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the Lord, and the sons of Aaron, the priests, will splash its blood against the altar’s sides.12 Next, the one presenting the offeringt must cut it into parts, with its head and its suet, and the priest must arrange them on the wood which is in the fire, on the altar.
13 Then the one presenting the offering must wash the entrails and the legs in water, and the priest must present all of it and offer it up in smoke on the altar – it is a burnt offering, a gift of a soothing aroma to the Lord.
From the Birds
14 “‘If his offering to the Lord is a burnt offering from the birds,t he must present his offering from the turtledoves or from the young pigeons.t15 The priest must present it at the altar, pinch offt its head and offer the headt up in smoke on the altar, and its blood must be drained out against the side of the altar.16 Then the priestt must remove its entrails by cutting off its tail feathers,t and throw themt to the east side of the altar into the place of fatty ashes,
17 and tear it open by its wings without dividing it into two parts.t Finally, the priest must offer it up in smoke on the altar on the wood which is in the fire – it is a burnt offering, a gift of a soothing aroma to the Lord.
