Leviticus 1

1 The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said,

2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you bring an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock.
3 “ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that you may be acceptable to the Lord.4 You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you.5 You are to slaughter the young bull before the Lord, and then Aaron’s sons the priests shall bring the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar at the entrance to the tent of meeting.6 You are to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.7 The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.8 Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar.

9 You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.
10 “ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep or the goats, you are to offer a male without defect.11 You are to slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar.12 You are to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar.

13 You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest is to bring all of them and burn them on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.
14 “ ‘If the offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, you are to offer a dove or a young pigeon.15 The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar.16 He is to remove the crop and the feathers and throw them down east of the altar where the ashes are.

17 He shall tear it open by the wings, not dividing it completely, and then the priest shall burn it on the wood that is burning on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

Introduction to the Sacrificial Regulations

1 Then the Lord called to Moses and spoke to himts from the Meeting Tent:s

2 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘Whents someonet among you presents an offeringt to the Lord,t yout must present your offering from the domesticated animals, either from the herd or from the flock.ts

Burnt Offering Regulations: Animal from the Herd

3 “‘If his offering is a burnt offerings from the herd he must present it as a flawless male; he must present it at the entrancet of the Meeting Tent for itst acceptance before the Lord.4 He must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted for him to make atonementt on his behalf.5 Then the one presenting the offeringt must slaughter the bullt before the Lord, and the sons of Aaron, the priests, must present the blood and splasht the blood against the sides of the altar which is at the entrance of the Meeting Tent.6 Next, the one presenting the offeringt must skin the burnt offering and cut it into parts,7 and the sons of Aaron, the priest,s must put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.8 Then the sons of Aaron, the priests, must arrange the parts with the head and the suetss on the wood that is in the fire on the altar.t

9 Finally, the one presenting the offeringt must wash its entrails and its legs in water and the priest must offer all of it up in smoke on the altart – it iss a burnt offering, a gifts of a soothing aroma to the Lord.

Animal from the Flock

10 “‘If his offering is from the flock for a burnt offeringt – from the sheep or the goats – he must present a flawless male,11 and must slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the Lord, and the sons of Aaron, the priests, will splash its blood against the altar’s sides.12 Next, the one presenting the offeringt must cut it into parts, with its head and its suet, and the priest must arrange them on the wood which is in the fire, on the altar.

13 Then the one presenting the offering must wash the entrails and the legs in water, and the priest must present all of it and offer it up in smoke on the altar – it is a burnt offering, a gift of a soothing aroma to the Lord.

From the Birds

14 “‘If his offering to the Lord is a burnt offering from the birds,t he must present his offering from the turtledoves or from the young pigeons.t15 The priest must present it at the altar, pinch offt its head and offer the headt up in smoke on the altar, and its blood must be drained out against the side of the altar.16 Then the priestt must remove its entrails by cutting off its tail feathers,t and throw themt to the east side of the altar into the place of fatty ashes,

17 and tear it open by its wings without dividing it into two parts.t Finally, the priest must offer it up in smoke on the altar on the wood which is in the fire – it is a burnt offering, a gift of a soothing aroma to the Lord.
