Lover om hellighet og rettferdighet

1 Og Herren talte til Moses og sa: 2 Tal til hele Israels barns menighet og si til dem: Dere skal være hellige, for jeg, Herren deres Gud, er hellig. s

3 Enhver av dere skal ha ærefrykt for sin mor og sin far. Og dere skal holde mine sabbater. Jeg er Herren deres Gud. s

4 Dere skal ikke vende dere til avgudene og ikke gjøre dere støpte guder. Jeg er Herren deres Gud. s

5 Når dere vil ofre fredsoffer til Herren, da skal dere ofre det slik at han kan ha velbehag i dere. s6 Den dagen dere ofrer det, skal det etes, eller også dagen etter. Men det som blir til overs til den tredje dagen, skal brennes opp med ild. 7 Dersom det etes på den tredje dagen, da er det en styggedom, Herren har da ikke behag i det. 8 Og den som eter det, fører skyld over seg. For han har vanhelliget det som var helliget Herren. Han skal utryddes av sitt folk.

9 Når dere høster grøden i deres land, så skal du ikke skjære kornet helt ut til den ytterste kant av din åker. Og de aksene som blir liggende igjen etter innhøstingen, skal du ikke sanke opp. s10 Du skal ikke holde etterhøst i din vingård og ikke sanke opp de druene som er falt ned. Du skal la dem ligge til den fattige og den fremmede. Jeg er Herren deres Gud.

11 Dere skal ikke stjele, og dere skal ikke lyve. Ingen av dere skal gå svikefullt fram mot sin neste. s

12 Dere skal ikke sverge på løgn ved mitt navn, så du vanhelliger din Guds navn. Jeg er Herren.s

13 Du skal ikke frata din neste noe med urett og ikke rane noe fra ham. Du skal ikke la en dagarbeiders lønn bli natten over hos deg til om morgenen. s

14 Du skal ikke forbanne en døv og ikke legge stein i veien for en blind, men du skal frykte din Gud. Jeg er Herren. s

15 Dere skal ikke gjøre urett i dommen. Du skal ikke holde med noen fordi han er ringe, og ikke gi noen rett fordi han er mektig. Du skal dømme din neste med rettferdighet. s

16 Du skal ikke gå omkring og baktale folk. Du skal ikke stå din neste etter livet. Jeg er Herren. s

17 Du skal ikke hate din bror i ditt hjerte. Men du skal irettesette din neste, for at du ikke skal få synd på deg for hans skyld. s

18 Du skal ikke hevne deg og ikke gjemme på vrede mot ditt folks barn, men du skal elske din neste som deg selv. Jeg er Herren. ss

19 Dere skal holde mine lover: Du skal ikke la to slags dyr av ditt fe pare seg med hverandre. Du skal ikke så to slags utsæd på din mark. Det skal ikke komme på deg klær som er vevd av to slags garn. s

20 Når en mann ligger hos en kvinne og har samleie med henne, og hun er trellkvinne og festet til en annen mann, men ikke løskjøpt eller frigitt, da skal de straffes. Men de skal ikke bøte med livet, fordi hun ikke var frigitt. 21 Men han skal føre sitt skyldoffer fram for Herren, til inngangen til sammenkomstens telt, en skyldoffervær. 22 Med skyldofferværen skal presten gjøre soning for ham for Herrens åsyn, for den synden han har gjort. Så får han tilgivelse for den synden han har gjort.

23 Når dere kommer inn i landet og planter alle slags frukttrær, da skal dere holde deres første frukt for uren. I tre år skal de være urene for dere, og dere skal ikke ete av dem. 24 I det fjerde året skal all deres frukt vies til Herren i en gledesfest. 25 Først i det femte året kan dere ete deres frukt - for at de siden kan bære dess mer for dere. Jeg er Herren deres Gud.

26 Dere skal ikke ete noe med blodet i. Dere skal ikke gi dere av med å tyde varsler eller spå av skyene. s27 Dere skal ikke rundskjære håret, heller ikke skal du klippe ditt skjegg kort. 28 Dere skal ikke skjære dere i kjøttet av sorg over en avdød, og ikke brenne inn skrifttegn på dere. Jeg er Herren. s

29 Du skal ikke vanhellige din datter ved å la henne drive hor, for at ikke landet skal drive hor og bli fullt av skjensel.

30 Mine sabbater skal dere holde og ha ærefrykt for min helligdom. Jeg er Herren. s

31 Dere skal ikke vende dere til dødningemanere og ikke gå til spåmenn, så dere gjør dere urene ved dem. Jeg er Herren deres Gud. s

32 For de grå hår skal du reise deg og ære den gamle, og du skal frykte din Gud. Jeg er Herren. s

33 Når en fremmed bor hos dere i deres land, da skal dere ikke undertrykke ham. s34 Den fremmede som bor hos dere, skal regnes som en innfødt blant dere, og du skal elske ham som deg selv. For dere har selv vært fremmede i landet Egypt. Jeg er Herren deres Gud.

35 Dere skal ikke gjøre urett i dom, i lengdemål, i vekt eller i hulmål. 36 Rette vektskåler, rette vektlodder, rett efa og rett hin skal dere ha. Jeg er Herren deres Gud, som førte dere ut av landet Egypt. s37 Dere skal ta vare på alle mine lover og alle mine bud og holde dem. Jeg er Herren. s

Leviticus 19

Religious and Social Regulations

1 The Lord spoke to Moses:2 “Speak to the whole congregation of the Israelites and tell them, ‘You must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.3 Each of you must respect his mother and his father,t and you must keep my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.

4 Do not turn to idols,s and you must not make for yourselves gods of cast metal. I am the Lord your God.

Eating the Peace Offering

5 “‘When you sacrifice a peace offering sacrifice to the Lord, you must sacrifice it so that it is accepted for you.t6 It must be eaten on the day of your sacrifice and on the following day,t but what is left over until the third day must be burned up.t7 If, however, it is eatent on the third day, it is spoiled,t it will not be accepted,

8 and the one who eats it will bear his punishment for iniquityt because he has profaneds what is holy to the Lord.t That person will be cut off from his people.s

Leaving the Gleanings

9 “‘When you gather in the harvestt of your land, you must not completely harvest the corner of your field,t and you must not gather up the gleanings of your harvest.

10 You must not pick your vineyard bare,t and you must not gather up the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You must leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.

Dealing Honestly

11 “‘You must not steal, you must not tell lies, and you must not deal falsely with your fellow citizen.t12 You must not swear falselyt in my name, so that you do not profanet the name of your God. I am the Lord.13 You must not oppress your neighbor or commit robbery against him.t You must not withholdt the wages of the hired laborer overnight until morning.

14 You must not curse a deaf person or put a stumbling block in front of a blind person.t You must feart your God; I am the Lord.

Justice, Love, and Propriety

15 “‘Yous must not deal unjustly in judgment:t you must neither show partiality to the poor nor honor the rich.t You must judge your fellow citizen fairly.t16 You must not go about as a slanderer among your people.t You must not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is at stake.t I am the Lord.17 You must not hate your brother in your heart. You must surely reprove your fellow citizen so that you do not incur sin on account of him.t18 You must not take vengeance or bear a grudget against the children of your people, but you must love your neighbor as yourself.s I am the Lord.

19 You must keep my statutes. You must not allow two different kinds of your animals to breed,t you must not sow your field with two different kinds of seed, and you must not weart a garment made of two different kinds of fabric.s

Lying with a Slave Woman

20 “‘When a man has sexual intercourse with a woman,t although she is a slave woman designated for another man and she has not yet been ransomed, or freedom has not been granted to her, there will be an obligation to pay compensation.s They must not be put to death, because she was not free.21 He must bring his guilt offering to the Lord at the entrance of the Meeting Tent, a guilt offering ram,s

22 and the priest is to make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the Lord for his sin that he has committed,t and he will be forgivent of his sint that he has committed.

The Produce of Fruit Trees

23 “‘When you enter the land and plant any fruit tree,t you must consider its fruit to be forbidden.t Three years it will be forbidden to you;t it must not be eaten.24 In the fourth year all its fruit will be holy, praise offeringst to the Lord.

25 Then in the fifth year you may eat its fruit to add its produce to your harvest.t I am the Lord your God.

Blood, Hair, and Body

26 “‘You must not eat anything with the blood still in it.t You must not practice either divination or soothsaying.t27 You must not round off the corners of the hair on your head or ruin the corners of your beard.s28 You must not slash your body for a dead persont or incise a tattoo on yourself.t I am the Lord.

29 Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute,t so that the land does not practice prostitution and become full of lewdness.t

Purity, Honor, Respect, and Honesty

30 “‘You must keep my Sabbaths and fear my sanctuary. I am the Lord.31 Do not turn to the spirits of the dead and do not seek familiar spiritss to become unclean by them. I am the Lord your God.32 You must stand up in the presence of the aged, honor the presence of an elder, and fear your God. I am the Lord.33 When a foreigner residest with you in your land, you must not oppress him.34 The foreigner who resides with you must be to you like a native citizen among you; sot you must love him as yourself, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.35 You must not do injustice in the regulation of measures, whether of length, weight, or volume.t36 You must have honest balances,t honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin.s I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

37 You must be sure to obey all my statutes and regulations.t I am the Lord.’”
