Lucas 1

Introducción

1 Por cuanto muchos han tratado de poner en orden y escribir una historia de las cosas que entre nosotros son muy ciertas (y hay plena convicción),2 tal como nos las dieron a conocer los que desde el principio fueron testigos oculares y ministros de la palabra (del evangelio),3 también a mí me ha parecido conveniente, después de haberlo investigado todo con diligencia desde el principio, escribírte las ordenadamente, excelentísimo Teófilo,

4 para que sepas la verdad precisa acerca de las cosas que te han sido enseñadas (instruido oralmente).

Anuncio del Nacimiento de Juan el Bautista

5 Hubo en los días de Herodes (el Grande), rey de Judea, cierto sacerdote llamado Zacarías, del grupo de Abías, que tenía por mujer una de las hijas de Aarón que se llamaba Elisabet.6 Ambos eran justos delante de Dios, y se conducían intachablemente en todos los mandamientos y preceptos del Señor.

7 No tenían hijos, porque Elisabet era estéril, y ambos eran de edad avanzada.
8 Pero aconteció que mientras Zacarías ejercía su ministerio sacerdotal delante de Dios según el orden indicado a su grupo,9 conforme a la costumbre del sacerdocio, fue escogido por sorteo para entrar al templo del Señor y quemar incienso.10 Toda la multitud del pueblo estaba afuera orando a la hora de la ofrenda de incienso.11 Y se le apareció a Zacarías un ángel del Señor, de pie, a la derecha del altar del incienso.

12 Al ver lo, Zacarías se turbó, y el temor se apoderó de él.
13 Pero el ángel le dijo: "No temas, Zacarías, porque tu petición ha sido oída, y tu mujer Elisabet te dará a luz un hijo, y lo llamarás Juan.14 Tendrás gozo y alegría y muchos se regocijarán por su nacimiento,15 porque él será grande delante del Señor. No beberá vino ni licor, y será lleno del Espíritu Santo aun desde el vientre de su madre,16 y hará volver a muchos de los Israelitas al Señor su Dios.

17 El irá delante del Señor en el espíritu y poder de Elías para hacer volver los corazones de los padres a los hijos, y a los desobedientes a la actitud de los justos, a fin de preparar para el Señor un pueblo bien dispuesto."
18 Entonces Zacarías dijo al ángel: "¿Cómo podré saber esto? Porque yo soy anciano y mi mujer es de edad avanzada."19 El ángel le respondió: "Yo soy Gabriel, que estoy en la presencia de Dios, y he sido enviado para hablarte y anunciarte estas buenas nuevas.

20 Así que te quedarás mudo, y no podrás hablar hasta el día en que todo esto acontezca, por cuanto no creíste mis palabras, las cuales se cumplirán a su debido tiempo."
21 El pueblo estaba esperando a Zacarías y se extrañaba de su tardanza en el templo.22 Pero cuando salió, no podía hablarles, y se dieron cuenta de que había visto una visión en el templo. El les hablaba por señas y permanecía mudo.

23 Cuando se cumplieron los días de su servicio sacerdotal, regresó a su casa.
24 Después de estos días, Elisabet su mujer concibió, y se recluyó por cinco meses, diciendo:

25 "Así ha obrado el Señor conmigo en los días en que se dignó mirar me para quitar mi afrenta entre los hombres."

Anuncio del Nacimiento de Jesús

26 Al sexto mes, el ángel Gabriel fue enviado por Dios a una ciudad de Galilea llamada Nazaret,27 a una virgen comprometida para casarse con un hombre que se llamaba José, de los descendientes de David; y el nombre de la virgen era María.

28 Y entrando el ángel, le dijo: "¡Salve, muy favorecida! El Señor está (sea) contigo; bendita eres tú entre las mujeres."
29 Ella se turbó mucho por estas palabras, y se preguntaba qué clase de saludo sería éste.30 Y el ángel le dijo: "No temas, María, porque has hallado gracia delante de Dios.31 Concebirás en tu seno y darás a luz un Hijo, y Le pondrás por nombre Jesús (el Señor salva).32 Este será grande y será llamado Hijo del Altísimo, y el Señor Dios Le dará el trono de Su padre David;

33 y reinará sobre la casa de Jacob para siempre, y Su reino no tendrá fin."
34 Entonces María dijo al ángel: "¿Cómo será esto, puesto que soy virgen?"35 El ángel le respondió: "El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y el poder del Altísimo te cubrirá con su sombra; por eso el Niño que nacerá será llamado Hijo de Dios.36 Tu parienta Elisabet en su vejez también ha concebido un hijo; y éste es el sexto mes para ella, la que llamaban estéril.37 Porque ninguna cosa será imposible para Dios."

38 Entonces María dijo: "Aquí tienes a la sierva del Señor; hágase conmigo conforme a tu palabra." Y el ángel se fue de su presencia.

María Visita a Elisabet

39 En esos días María se levantó y fue apresuradamente a la región montañosa, a una ciudad de Judá;40 y entró en casa de Zacarías y saludó a Elisabet.41 Cuando Elisabet oyó el saludo de María, la criatura saltó en su vientre; y Elisabet fue llena del Espíritu Santo,42 y exclamó a gran voz: "¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres, y bendito el fruto de tu vientre!43 ¿Por qué me ha acontecido esto a mí, que la madre de mi Señor venga a mí?44 Porque apenas la voz de tu saludo llegó a mis oídos, la criatura saltó de gozo en mi vientre.

45 Y bienaventurada la que creyó que tendrá cumplimiento lo que le fue dicho de parte del Señor."
46 Entonces María dijo: "Mi alma engrandece al Señor,47 Y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador.48 Porque ha mirado la humilde condición de esta su sierva; Pues desde ahora en adelante todas las generaciones me tendrán por bienaventurada.49 Porque grandes cosas me ha hecho el Poderoso; Y santo es Su nombre.50 Y de generacion en generacion es Su misericordia para los que Le temen.51 Ha hecho proezas con Su brazo; Ha esparcido a los soberbios en el pensamiento de sus corazones.52 Ha quitado a los poderosos de sus tronos; Y ha exaltado a los humildes;53 a los hambrientos ha colmado de bienes Y ha despedido a los ricos con las manos vacías.54 Ha ayudado a Israel, Su siervo, Para recuerdo de Su misericordia

55 Tal como dijo a nuestros padres, A Abraham y a su descendencia (simiente) para siempre."

56 María se quedó con Elisabet como tres meses y después regresó a su casa.

Nacimiento de Juan el Bautista

57 Cuando a Elisabet se le cumplió el tiempo de su alumbramiento, dio a luz un hijo.58 Y sus vecinos y parientes oyeron que el Señor había demostrado (engrandecido) Su gran misericordia hacia ella, y se regocijaban con ella.59 Al octavo día vinieron para circuncidar al niño, y lo iban a llamar Zacarías según el nombre de su padre.60 "No, sino que se llamará Juan," respondió la madre.61 Y le dijeron: "No hay nadie en tu familia que tenga ese nombre."62 Entonces preguntaban por señas al padre, cómo lo quería llamar.

63 El pidió una tablilla y escribió lo siguiente: "Su nombre es Juan." Y todos se maravillaron.
64 Al instante le fue abierta su boca y suelta su lengua, y comenzó a hablar dando alabanza a Dios.65 Y vino temor sobre todos los que vivían a su alrededor; y todas estas cosas se comentaban en toda la región montañosa de Judea.

66 Todos los que las oían las guardaban en su corazón, diciendo: "¿Qué, pues, llegará a ser este niño?" Porque la mano del Señor ciertamente estaba con él.

Profecía de Zacarías

67 Su padre Zacarías fue lleno del Espíritu Santo, y profetizó diciendo:68 "Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de Israel, Porque nos ha visitado y ha traído redención para Su pueblo,69 Y nos ha levantado un cuerno de salvación En la casa de David Su siervo,70 Tal como lo anunció por boca de Sus santos profetas desde los tiempos antiguos,71 Salvación (Liberación) de nuestros enemigos Y de la mano de todos los que nos aborrecen;72 Para mostrar misericordia a nuestros padres, Y para recordar Su santo pacto,73 El juramento que hizo a nuestro padre Abraham:74 Concedernos que, librados de la mano de nuestros enemigos, Le sirvamos sin temor,75 En santidad y justicia delante de El, todos nuestros días.76 Y tú, niño, serás llamado profeta del Altísimo; Porque irás delante del Señor para preparar Sus caminos;77 Para dar a Su pueblo el conocimiento de la salvación Por el perdón de sus pecados,78 Por la entrañable misericordia de nuestro Dios, Con que la Aurora nos visitará desde lo alto,

79 para dar luz a los que habitan en tinieblas y en sombra de muerte, Para guiar nuestros pies en el camino de paz."
80 Y el niño crecía y se fortalecía en espíritu; y vivió en lugares desiertos hasta el día en que apareció en público a Israel.

Luke 1

Explanatory Preface

1 Nowt many have undertaken to compile an accountt of the thingst that have been fulfilledt among us,2 like the accountst passed ont to us by those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the words from the beginning.t3 Sot it seemed good to me as well,s because I have followedt all things carefully from the beginning, to write an orderly accounts for you, most excellent Theophilus,

4 so that you may know for certaint the things you were taught.t

Birth Announcement of John the Baptist

5 During the reignt of Herods king of Judea, there lived a priest named Zechariah who belonged tot the priestly division of Abijah,s and he had a wife named Elizabeth,t who was a descendant of Aaron.ts6 Theyt were both righteous in the sight of God, followingts all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly.t

7 But they did not have a child, because Elizabeth was barren,s and they were both very old.t
8 Nowt while Zechariaht was serving as priest before God when his division was on duty,ts9 he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood,t to entert the holy placet of the Lord and burn incense.10 Nowt the whole crowdt of people were praying outside at the hour of the incense offering.t11 Ant angel of the Lord,t standing on the right side of the altar of incense, appeareds to him.12 And Zechariah, visibly shaken when he saw the angel,t was seized with fear.t13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard,ts and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son; yout will name him John.ts14 Joy and gladness will comet to you, and many will rejoice att his birth,t15 for he will be great in the sight oft the Lord. Het must never drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even before his birth.ts16 Het will turns many of the peoplet of Israel to the Lord their God.

17 And he will go as forerunner before the Lordt in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just,s to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.”
18 Zechariaht said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this?t For I am an old man, and my wife is old as well.”t19 Thet angel answered him, “I am Gabriel, who standst in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bringt you this good news.

20 And now,t because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time,s you will be silent, unable to speak,s until the day these things take place.”
21 Nowt the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they began to wondert why he was delayed in the holy place.t22 Whent he came out, he was not able to speak to them. Theyt realized that he had seen a visiont in the holy place,t becauset he was making signs to them and remained unable to speak.t

23 When his time of service was over,t he went to his home.
24 After some timet his wife Elizabeth became pregnant,t and for five months she kept herself in seclusion.s She said,t

25 “This is whatt the Lord has done for me at the timet when he has been gracious to me,t to take away my disgraces among people.”t

Birth Announcement of Jesus the Messiah

26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy,t the angel Gabriels was sent byt God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,ss27 to a virgin engagedt to a man whose name was Joseph, a descendant of David,ts and the virgin’s name was Mary.28 Thet angelt camet to her and said, “Greetings, favored one,t the Lord is with you!”s29 Buts she was greatly troubleds by his words and began to wonder about the meaning of this greeting.t30 Sot the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid,s Mary, for you have found favorts with God!31 Listen:t You will become pregnantt and give birth tot a son, and you will name himt Jesus.ts32 Het will be great,s and will be called the Son of the Most High,s and the Lord God will give him the throne of his fathert David.33 Het will reign over the house of Jacobts forever, and his kingdom will never end.”34 Maryt said to the angel, “How will this be, since I have not had sexual relations witht a man?”

35 The angel replied,t “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadows you. Therefore the childt to be borns will be holy;t he will be called the Son of God.
36 “And look,t your relativet Elizabeth has also become pregnant witht a son in her old age – although she was called barren, she is now in her sixth month!t37 For nothingt will be impossible with God.”

38 Sot Mary said, “Yes,t I am a servantt of the Lord; let this happen to met according to your word.”s Thent the angel departed from her.

Mary and Elizabeth

39 In those dayss Mary got up and went hurriedly into the hill country, to a town of Judah,s40 and entered Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth.41 Whent Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapeds in hert womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.s42 Shet exclaimed with a loud voice,t “Blessed are you among women,s and blessed is the childt in your womb!43 And who am It that the mother of my Lord should come and visit me?44 For the instantt the sound of your greeting reached my ears,t the baby in my womb leaped for joy.s

45 And blesseds is she who believed thatt what was spoken to her byt the Lord would be fulfilled.”ts

Mary’s Hymn of Praise

46 And Marys said,s
“My soul exaltst the Lord,s

47 and my spirit has begun to rejoicet in God my Savior,

48 because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.t
Fort from now ons all generations will call me blessed,s

49 because he who is mightyt has done great things for me, and holy is his name;

50 fromt generation to generation he is mercifuls to those who feart him.

51 He has demonstrated powert with his arm; he has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogancet of their hearts.

52 He has brought down the mightyt from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position;ts

53 he has filled the hungry with good things,s and has sent the rich away empty.s

54 He has helped his servant Israel, rememberingt his mercy,t

55 as he promisedt to our ancestors,t to Abraham and to his descendantst forever.”

56 Sot Mary stayed with Elizabetht about three monthss and then returned to her home.

The Birth of John

57 Now the time camet for Elizabeth to have her baby,t and she gave birth to a son.

58 Hert neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shownt great mercy to her, and they rejoicedt with her.
59 Ont the eighth days they came to circumcise the child, and they wanted to namet him Zechariah after his father.60 Butt his mother replied,t “No! He must be namedt John.”s61 Theyt said to her, “Butt none of your relatives bears this name.”t62 Sot they made signs to the baby’st father,s inquiring what he wanted to name his son.t63 Het asked for a writing tablets and wrote,t “His name is John.” And they were all amazed.s64 Immediatelyt Zechariah’st mouth was opened and his tongues released,t and he spoke, blessing God.65 Allts their neighbors were filled with fear, and throughout the entire hill country of Judea all these things were talked about.

66 Allt who heard these thingst kept them in their hearts,t saying, “What then will this child be?”t For the Lord’s hands was indeed with him.

Zechariah’s Praise and Prediction

67 Thent his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied,ts

68 “Blesseds be the Lord God of Israel,
because he has come to helps and has redeemedts his people.

69 Fort he has raised ups a horn of salvations for us in the house of his servant David,s

70 as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from long ago,t

71 that we should be savedt from our enemies,s
and from the hand of all who hate us.

72 He has done thist to show mercys to our ancestors,t
and to remember his holy covenants –

73 the oatht that he swore to our ancestort Abraham.
This oath grantst

74 that we, being rescued from the hand of ours enemies,
may serve him without fear,t

75 in holiness and righteousnesss before him for as long as we live.t

76 And you, child,s will be called the prophett of the Most High.s
For you will go befores the Lord to prepare his ways,ts

77 to give his people knowledge of salvations through the forgivenesss of their sins.

78 Because oft our God’s tender mercys
the dawns will breakt upon us from on high

79 to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,s
to guide our feet into the wayt of peace.”

80 And the child kept growingt and becoming strongt in spirit, and he was in the wildernesst until the day he was revealedt to Israel.
