Die sending van die twee en sewentig
(Vgl. Matt. 11:20-24)
1 Daarna het die Here twee en sewentig ander aangewys en hulle twee-twee voor Hom uit gestuur na elke dorp en plek waarheen Hy van plan was om te gaan. 2 Hy het vir hulle gesê: “Die oes is groot, maar die arbeiders min. Bid dan die Here aan wie die oes behoort, om arbeiders uit te stuur vir sy oes. 3 Gaan nou! Maar onthou: Ek stuur julle soos lammers tussen wolwe in.
4 “Moenie 'n beurs of 'n reissak of skoene saamdra nie, en moenie langs die pad met groetery tyd verkwis nie. 5 As julle in 'n huis kom, moet julle eerste woorde wees: ‘Vrede vir hierdie huis.’ 6 As daar iemand woon vir wie die vrede bestem is, sal die vrede op hom bly; so nie, sal dit na julle toe terugkom. 7 Moenie van een huis na die ander trek nie, maar bly in dieselfde huis, eet en drink wat hulle voorhande het, want die arbeider is geregtig op sy loon. 8 As julle in 'n dorp kom en hulle ontvang julle, eet dan wat hulle vir julle voorsit. 9 Maak die siekes daar gesond en sê vir die mense: ‘Vir julle is die koninkryk van God baie naby!’ 10 Maar as julle in 'n dorp kom en hulle ontvang julle nie, gaan dan uit in sy strate en sê: 11 ‘Selfs julle dorp se stof wat aan ons voete sit, vee ons af as aanklag teen julle. Maar dit moet julle weet: die koninkryk van God is baie naby.’ 12 Ek sê vir julle: Vir die mense van Sodom sal dit op dié dag draagliker wees as vir daardie dorp.
13 “Ellende wag vir jou, Gorasin! Ellende wag vir jou, Betsaida! As in Tirus en Sidon die wonderdade plaasgevind het wat in julle plaasgevind het, sou hulle lankal in sak en as gesit en hulle bekeer het. 14 Maar vir Tirus en Sidon sal dit in die oordeel draagliker wees as vir julle. 15 En jy, Kapernaum, dink jy jý sal tot die hemel toe verhoog word? Nee, jy sal tot in die doderyk afdaal!
16 “Wie na julle luister, luister na My; wie vir julle verwerp, verwerp My; en wie My verwerp, verwerp Hom wat My gestuur het.”
Die terugkoms van die twee en sewentig
17 Die twee en sewentig het vol blydskap teruggekom en gesê: “Here, selfs die bose geeste onderwerp hulle aan ons by die hoor van u Naam.”
18 Toe sê Hy vir hulle: “Ek het die Satan soos 'n weerligstraal uit die hemel sien val. 19 Kyk, Ek het aan julle die mag gegee om op slange en skerpioene te trap en om die vyand met al sy geweld te oorwin, sonder dat iets julle enige leed aandoen. 20 En tog moet julle nie bly wees net omdat die geeste hulle aan julle onderwerp nie, maar wees veral bly omdat julle name in die hemel opgeskryf is.”
Die blydskap van Jesus
(Matt. 11:25-27; 13:16-17)
21 By daardie selfde geleentheid het Jesus deur die Heilige Gees dit uitgejubel: “Ek prys U, Vader, Here van hemel en aarde, dat U hierdie dinge vir slim en geleerde mense verberg het en dit aan eenvoudiges bekend gemaak het. Ja, Vader, so was dit u genadige bedoeling.
22 “My Vader het alles aan My toevertrou. Niemand weet wie die Seun is nie behalwe die Vader, en wie die Vader is nie behalwe die Seun en elkeen aan wie die Seun dit wil bekend maak.”
23 Toe draai Jesus Hom na sy dissipels afsonderlik en sê vir hulle: “Hoe bevoorreg is die oë wat sien wat julle sien, 24 want Ek sê vir julle: Baie profete en konings het daarna verlang om te sien wat julle nou sien, en hulle het dit nie gesien nie; en om te hoor wat julle nou hoor, en hulle het dit nie gehoor nie.”
Die barmhartige Samaritaan
(Matt. 22:34-40; Mark. 12:28-34)
25 Daar was 'n wetgeleerde wat aan Jesus 'n strikvraag wou stel. Hy staan toe op en vra: “Meneer, wat moet ek doen om die ewige lewe te verkry?”
26 Jesus sê vir hom: “Wat staan in die wet van Moses geskrywe? Wat lees jy daar?”
27 Hy antwoord: “Jy moet die Here jou God liefhê met jou hele hart en met jou hele siel en met al jou krag en met jou hele verstand, en jou naaste soos jouself.”t
28 “Jy het reg geantwoord,” sê Jesus vir hom. “Doen dit en jy sal die lewe verkry.”
29 Maar die wetgeleerde wou homself handhaaf en vra vir Jesus: “En wie is my naaste?”
30 Jesus gaan toe nader daarop in deur te sê: “Toe 'n man eenmaal op pad was van Jerusalem af na Jerigo toe, het rowers hom aangeval. Hulle het hom kaal uitgetrek en hom geslaan dat hy halfdood bly lê, en toe padgegee. 31 Dit gebeur toe dat daar 'n priester met daardie pad langs kom, en toe hy hom sien, gaan hy ver langs verby. 32 Net so het daar ook 'n Leviet by die plek gekom, en toe hy hom sien, gaan hy ook ver langs verby. 33 Maar 'n Samaritaan wat op reis was, het op hom afgekom, en toe hy hom sien, het hy hom innig jammer gekry. 34 Hy het na hom toe gegaan, sy wonde met olie en wyn behandel en hulle verbind. Toe het hy hom op sy rydier gehelp en hom na 'n herberg toe geneem en hom daar verder versorg. 35 Die volgende dag haal hy twee muntstukke uit en gee dit aan die eienaar van die herberg en sê: ‘Sorg vir hom, en as jy meer onkoste met hom het, sal ek jou betaal wanneer ek hierlangs terugkom.’
36 “Wie van hierdie drie is volgens jou die naaste van hom wat onder die rowers verval het?”
37 Die wetgeleerde antwoord: “Die man wat aan hom medelye bewys het.”
Toe sê Jesus vir hom: “Gaan maak jy ook so.”
Op besoek by Marta en Maria
38 Op hulle reis het Jesus in 'n dorp gekom waar 'n vrou, Marta, Hom as gas ontvang het. 39 Sy het 'n suster gehad, Maria, wat aan die voete van die Here gaan sit en na sy woorde geluister het. 40 Maar Marta was baie bedrywig om alles klaar te maak. Sy kom toe daar staan en sê: “Here, hinder dit U nie dat my suster my alleen laat bedien nie? Sê sy moet my kom help!”
41 Maar die Here antwoord haar: “Marta, Marta, jy is besorg en bekommerd oor baie dinge, 42 maar net een ding is nodig. Maria het die beste deel gekies, en dit sal nie van haar weggeneem word nie.”
Luke 10
1 NOW AFTER this the Lord chose and appointed seventy others and sent them out ahead of Him, two by two, into every town and place where He Himself was about to come (visit).2 And He said to them, The harvest indeed is abundant [there is much ripe grain], but the farmhands are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.3 Go your way; behold, I send you out like lambs into the midst of wolves.4 Carry no purse, no provisions bag, no [change of] sandals; refrain from [retarding your journey by] saluting and wishing anyone well along the way.5 Whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this household! [Freedom from all the distresses that result from sin be with this family].6 And if anyone [worthy] of peace and blessedness is there, the peace and blessedness you wish shall come upon him; but if not, it shall come back to you.7 And stay on in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house. 8 Whenever you go into a town and they receive and accept and welcome you, eat what is set before you;9 And heal the sick in it and say to them, The kingdom of God has come close to you.10 But whenever you go into a town and they do not receive and accept and welcome you, go out into its streets and say,11 Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we are wiping off against you; yet know and understand this: the kingdom of God has come near you .12 I tell you, it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that town. 13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty miracles performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.14 However, it shall be more tolerable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted unto heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades (the regions of the dead).16 He who hears and heeds you [disciples] hears and heeds Me; and he who slights and rejects you slights and rejects Me; and he who slights and rejects Me slights and rejects Him who sent Me.17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name!18 And He said to them, I saw Satan falling like a lightning [flash] from heaven.19 Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are enrolled in heaven. 21 In that same hour He rejoiced and gloried in the Holy Spirit and said, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have concealed these things [relating to salvation] from the wise and understanding and learned, and revealed them to babes (the childish, unskilled, and untaught). Yes, Father, for such was Your gracious will and choice and good pleasure.22 All things have been given over into My power by My Father; and no one knows Who the Son is except the Father, or Who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son may choose to reveal and make Him known.23 Then turning to His disciples, He said privately, Blessed (happy, to be envied) are those whose eyes see what you see!24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings longed to see what you see and they did not see it, and to hear what you hear and they did not hear it.25 And then a certain lawyer arose to try (test, tempt) Him, saying, Teacher, what am I to do to inherit everlasting life [that is, to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]?26 Jesus said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read it?27 And he replied, You must love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. 28 And Jesus said to him, You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live [enjoy active, blessed, endless life in the kingdom of God].29 And he, determined to acquit himself of reproach, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?30 Jesus, taking him up, replied, A certain man was going from Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him of his clothes and belongings and beat him and went their way, [unconcernedly] leaving him half dead, as it happened.31 Now by coincidence a certain priest was going down along that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.32 A Levite likewise came down to the place and saw him, and passed by on the other side [of the road].33 But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled along, came down to where he was; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity and sympathy [for him],34 And went to him and dressed his wounds, pouring on [them] oil and wine. Then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him.35 And the next day he took out two denarii [two day’s wages] and gave [them] to the innkeeper, saying, Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I [myself] will repay you when I return.36 Which of these three do you think proved himself a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?37 He answered, The one who showed pity and mercy to him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise.38 Now while they were on their way, it occurred that Jesus entered a certain village, and a woman named Martha received and welcomed Him into her house.39 And she had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was listening to His teaching.40 But Martha [overly occupied and too busy] was distracted with much serving; and she came up to Him and said, Lord, is it nothing to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me [to lend a hand and do her part along with me]!41 But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;42 There is need of only one or but a few things. Mary has chosen the good portion [that which is to her advantage], which shall not be taken away from her.
