Luca 10

Gesù manda i discepoli.

1 A questo punto il Signore scelse altri settantadue discepoli e li mandò avanti a due a due in tutte le città e i villaggi che stava per visitare.2 Queste furono le istruzioni che diede loro: « Pregate il Padrone del raccolto che mandi ancor più braccianti ad aiutarvi, perché il raccolto è tanto grande, mentre i braccianti sono così pochi!3 Andate ora! E ricordate che vi mando come gli agnelli fra i lupi.4 Non prendete denaro con voi, né bisaccia e neppure un paio di sandali di ricambio. E non fermatevi a salutare nessuno lungo la strada.5 In qualsiasi casa voi entriate, date la vostra benedizione.6 Se essa è degna di benedizione, la benedizione vi rimarrà; in caso contrario, la benedizione tornerà a voi.7 Non andate di casa in casa, ma restate in un sol posto, mangiate e bevete tutto ciò che vi viene offerto, perché chi lavora ha diritto di essere pagato!8-9 Quando in una città qualcuno vi accoglie, seguite queste due regole:10 Ma se in una città nessuno vi accoglie, andate per le sue strade e dite:11 “Ci scuotiamo dai piedi la polvere della vostra città, per annunciare pubblicamente la vostra rovina. Non dimenticate mai quanto vi è stato vicino il Regno di Dio!”12 Vi assicuro che nel giorno del giudizio gli abitanti della malvagia Sòdoma saranno trattati meno duramente della gente di quella città!13 Quali orrori vi aspettano, o città di Corazin e Betsaida! Perché, se i miracoli compiuti fra voi fossero stati fatti nelle città di Tiro o Sidone, da tempo le loro popolazioni si sarebbero pentite, vestendosi di tela di sacco e cospargendosi il capo di cenere per il rimorso.14 Perciò nel giorno del giudizio gli abitanti di Tiro e Sidone riceveranno una punizione meno dura della vostra.15 E voi, cittadini di Cafarnao, che dovrei dire di voi? Che sarete innalzati fino al cielo? No, anzi, sarete gettati giù nell’inferno! »16 Poi disse ai discepoli: « Chi ascolta voi, ascolta me. Chi disprezza voi, disprezza me. E chi disprezza me, disprezza Dio che mi ha mandato ».17 Quando i settantadue discepoli tornarono, pieni di gioia dissero a Gesù: « Perfino i demòni ci ubbidiscono quando usiamo il tuo nome! »18 E Gesù disse loro: « Io ho visto Satana cadere dal cielo come un fulmine!19 Ecco, vi ho dato il potere di calpestare serpenti e scorpioni e di vincere qualunque potenza del nemico. Niente potrà farvi del male!20 Non rallegratevi però perché i demoni si sottomettono a voi, ma rallegratevi perché i vostri nomi sono scritti nel cielo ».21 Poi Gesù, pieno di gioia per lo Spirito Santo, esclamò: « Io lodo te, Padre, Signore del cielo e della terra, perché hai nascosto queste cose agli intellettuali e ai grandi del mondo, e le hai fatte conoscere a quelli che sono come bambini piccoli. Sì, grazie, Padre, perché così tu hai voluto!22 Mio Padre mi ha affidato tutte le cose; e nessuno conosce appieno il Figlio, se non il Padre, così pure nessuno conosce il Padre, eccetto il Figlio e quelli a cui il Figlio ha scelto di rivelarlo ».23 Poi, rivolgendosi ai suoi discepoli, disse loro in disparte: « Beati voi che avete visto tutte queste cose!24 Molti profeti e re hanno desiderato con tutto il cuore vedere ciò che voi avete visto. Chissà che cosa avrebbero dato per vedere e udire ciò che voi avete visto e udito! »

Parabola del « Buon Samaritano ».

25 Un giorno, un dottore della legge di Mosè venne per mettere alla prova Gesù, e gli fece questa domanda: « Maestro, che deve fare un uomo per avere la vita eterna? »26 Gesù gli pose a sua volta una domanda: « Che cosa dice la legge di Mosè sull’argomento? »27 L’uomo rispose: « Dice: “Devi amare il Signore tuo Dio con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutte le tue forze e con tutta la tua mente!” e “Ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso” ».28 « Ben detto! » approvò Gesù. « Fai questo e vivrai! »29 L’uomo, volendo giustificarsi, (visto che non riusciva ad amare certa gente), chiese ancora: « Ma chi è il mio prossimo? »30 Gesù rispose allora con una parabola: « Un giudeo, durante un viaggio da Gerusalemme a Gerico, fu attaccato dai banditi. Gli tolsero i vestiti e il denaro e lo picchiarono; poi lo abbandonarono mezzo morto sulla strada.31 Per caso passò di lì un sacerdote giudeo. Quando vide l’uomo in quelle condizioni, attraversò la strada per evitarlo, e proseguì.32 Passò per quella strada anche un levita, assistente del tempio, vide il poveretto ma, come aveva fatto l’altro, lo scansò e proseguì.33 Infine passò un Samaritano,[d] vide l’uomo e ne ebbe pietà.34 S’inginocchiò vicino a lui, medicò le sue ferite e le fasciò. Poi mise l’uomo sul suo somaro e, camminando al suo fianco, lo portò in una locanda, dove si prese cura di lui per tutta la notte.35 Il giorno dopo, il Samaritano diede all’oste due denari[e] e gli raccomandò di prendersi cura dell’uomo. “Se il suo conto supera questa cifra”, gli disse poi, “ti pagherò la differenza la prossima volta che passo di qui”.36 Secondo te, chi di questi tre si comportò da “prossimo” verso quell’uomo, vittima dei banditi? »37 Il dottore della legge rispose: « Quello che ha avuto compassione di lui ». Allora Gesù disse: « Giusto. Ora va’ e comportati così ».

Marta e Maria.

38 Mentre Gesù e i discepoli continuavano il loro viaggio verso Gerusalemme, giunsero in un villaggio dove furono accolti in casa di una donna di nome Marta.39 Ella aveva una sorella, Maria, che, dopo essersi seduta ai piedi di Gesù, lo ascoltava mentre parlava.40 Marta, invece, era molto affaccendata per il pranzo che stava preparando per loro. Ad un certo punto si avvicinò a Gesù e disse: « Signore, ti sembra bello che mia sorella se ne stia qui seduta, mentre sono io che faccio tutto il lavoro? Dille di venire ad aiutarmi! »41 Ma il Signore le disse: « Marta, Marta come te la prendi per tutte queste piccole cose!42 Invece, c’è solo una cosa di cui valga la pena di preoccuparsi. Maria l’ha scoperta e nessuno gliela porterà via! »

Luke 10

1 Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself was about to come.2 And he said unto them, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth laborers into his harvest.3 Go your ways; behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.4 Carry no purse, no wallet, no shoes; and salute no man on the way.5 And into whatsoever house ye shall enter, first say, Peace be to this house.6 And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall turn to you again.7 And in that same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:9 and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.10 But into whatsoever city ye shall enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets thereof and say,11 Even the dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, we wipe off against you: nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh.12 I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment, than for you.15 And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt be brought down unto Hades.16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth him that sent me.17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject unto us in thy name.18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven.19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.20 Nevertheless in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: yea, Father; for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.22 All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth who the Son is, save the Father; and who the Father is, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him.23 And turning to the disciples, he said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:24 for I say unto you, that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?26 And he said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?30 Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.31 And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.32 And in like manner a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side.33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion,34 and came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.35 And on the morrow he took out two shillings, and gave them to the host, and said, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, I, when I come back again, will repay thee.36 Which of these three, thinkest thou, proved neighbor unto him that fell among the robbers?37 And he said, He that showed mercy on him. And Jesus said unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.38 Now as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet, and heard his word.40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving; and she came up to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister did leave me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.41 But the Lord answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about many things:42 but one thing is needful: for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
