Misión de los setenta y dos

1 Después de esto, el Señor eligió a otros setenta y dos, y de dos en dos los envió delante de él a todas las ciudades y lugares adonde él tenía que ir.2 Les dijo: «Ciertamente, es mucha la mies, pero son pocos los segadores. Por tanto, pidan al Señor de la mies que envíe segadores a cosechar la mies.t3 Y ustedes, pónganse en camino. Pero tengan en cuenta que yo los envío como a corderos en medio de lobos.t4 No lleven bolsa, ni alforja, ni calzado; ni se detengan en el camino a saludar a nadie.5 En cualquier casa adonde entren, antes que nada digan: “Paz a esta casa.”6 Si allí hay gente de paz, la paz de ustedes reposará sobre esa gente; de lo contrario, la paz volverá a ustedes.7 Quédense en esa misma casa, y coman y beban lo que les den, porque el obrero es digno de su salario.t No vayan de casa en casa.8 En cualquier ciudad donde entren, y los reciban, coman lo que les ofrezcan.9 Sanen a los enfermos que allí haya, y díganles: “El reino de Dios se ha acercado a ustedes.”10 Pero si llegan a alguna ciudad y no los reciben, salgan a la calle y digan:11 “Hasta el polvo de su ciudad, que se ha pegado a nuestros pies, lo sacudimos contra ustedes.t Pero sepan que el reino de Dios se ha acercado a ustedes.”t12 Yo les digo que, en aquel día, el castigo para Sodoma será más tolerablet que para aquella ciudad.t

Ayes sobre las ciudades impenitentes

13 »¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Y ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si en Tiro y en Sidónt se hubieran hecho los milagros que se han hecho en ustedes, ya hace tiempo que, sentadas en cilicio y cubiertas de ceniza, habrían mostrado su arrepentimiento.14 Por tanto, en el día del juicio, el castigo para Tiro y para Sidón será más tolerable que para ustedes.15 Y tú, Cafarnaún, que te elevas hasta los cielos, ¡hasta el Hades caerás abatida!t

16 »El que los escucha a ustedes, me escucha a mí.t El que los rechaza a ustedes, me rechaza a mí; y el que me rechaza a mí, rechaza al que me envió.»

Regreso de los setenta y dos

17 Cuando los setenta y dos volvieron, estaban muy contentos y decían: «Señor, en tu nombre, ¡hasta los demonios se nos sujetan!»18 Jesús les dijo: «Yo veía a Satanás caer del cielo como un rayo.19 Miren que yo les he dado a ustedes poder para aplastar serpientes y escorpiones,t y para vencer a todo el poder del enemigo, sin que nada los dañe.20 Pero no se alegren de que los espíritus se les sujetan, sino de que los nombres de ustedes ya están escritos en los cielos.»

Jesús se regocija

21 En ese momento Jesús se regocijó en el Espíritu Santo, y dijo: «Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque estas cosas las escondiste de los sabios y entendidos, y las revelaste a los niños. ¡Sí, Padre, porque así te agradó!22 Mi Padre me ha entregado todas las cosas,t y nadie conoce al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni nadie conoce al Padre, sino el Hijo,t y aquel a quien el Hijo lo quiera revelar.»

23 Jesús se volvió a los discípulos, y aparte les dijo: «Dichosos los ojos que ven lo que ustedes ven.24 Porque les digo que muchos profetas y reyes desearon ver lo que ustedes ven, pero no lo vieron; y oír lo que ustedes oyen, pero no lo oyeron.»

El buen samaritano

25 En ese momento, un intérprete de la ley se levantó y, para poner a prueba a Jesús, dijo:t «Maestro, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la vida eterna?»26 Jesús le dijo: «¿Qué es lo que está escrito en la ley? ¿Qué lees allí?»27 El intérprete de la ley respondió: «Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con todas tus fuerzas y con toda tu mente,t y a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.»t28 Jesús le dijo: «Has contestado correctamente. Haz esto, y vivirás.»t

29 Pero aquél, queriendo justificarse a sí mismo, le preguntó a Jesús: «¿Y quién es mi prójimo?»30 Jesús le respondió: «Un hombre descendía de Jerusalén a Jericó, y cayó en manos de unos ladrones, que le robaron todo lo que tenía y lo hirieron, dejándolo casi muerto.31 Por el camino descendía un sacerdote, y aunque lo vio, siguió de largo.32 Cerca de aquel lugar pasó también un levita, y aunque lo vio, siguió de largo.33 Pero un samaritano, que iba de camino, se acercó al hombre y, al verlo, se compadeció de él34 y le curó las heridas con aceite y vino, y se las vendó; luego lo puso sobre su cabalgadura y lo llevó a una posada, y cuidó de él.35 Al otro día, antes de partir, sacó dos monedas, se las dio al dueño de la posada, y le dijo: “Cuídalo. Cuando yo regrese, te pagaré todo lo que hayas gastado de más.”36 De estos tres, ¿cuál crees que fue el prójimo del que cayó en manos de los ladrones?»37 Aquél respondió: «El que tuvo compasión de él.» Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Pues ve y haz tú lo mismo.»

Jesús visita a Marta y a María

38 Mientras Jesús iba de camino, entró en una aldea, y una mujer llamada Marta, lo hospedó en su casa.39 Marta tenía una hermana que se llamaba María,t la cual se sentó a los pies de Jesús para escuchar lo que él decía.40 Pero Marta, que estaba ocupada con muchos quehaceres, se acercó a Jesús y le dijo: «Señor, ¿no te importa que mi hermana me deje trabajar sola? ¡Dile que me ayude!»41 Jesús le respondió: «Marta, Marta, estás preocupada y aturdida con muchas cosas.42 Pero una sola cosa es necesaria. María ha escogido la mejor parte, y nadie se la quitará.»

LUKE 10

The Work //of the Seventy-Two Followers

1 Later the Lord chose 72 t other followers and sent them out two by two to every town and village where he was about to go.

2 t He said to them:
A large crop is in the fields, but there are only a few workers. Ask the Lord in charge of the harvest to send out workers to bring it in. 3 t Now go, but remember, I am sending you like lambs into a pack of wolves. 4 t Don't take along a moneybag or a traveling bag or sandals. And don't waste time greeting people on the road.t 5 As soon as you enter a home, say, “God bless this home with peace.” 6 If the people living there are peace-loving, your prayer for peace will bless them. But if they are not peace-loving, your prayer will return to you.

7 t Stay with the same family, eating and drinking whatever they give you, because workers are worth what they earn. Don't move around from house to house.
8 If the people of a town welcome you, eat whatever they offer.

9 Heal their sick and say, “God's kingdom will soon be here!”t
10  t But if the people of a town refuse to welcome you, go out into the street and say, 11 “We are shaking the dust from our feett as a warning to you. And you can be sure that God's kingdom will soon be here!”t

12 t I tell you that on the day of judgment the people of Sodom will get off easier than the people of that town!

The Unbelieving Towns

(Matthew 11.20-24)

15 t People of Capernaum, do you think you will be honored in heaven? Well, you will go down to hell!

16  t My followers, whoever listens to you is listening to me. Anyone who says “No” to you is saying “No” to me. And anyone who says “No” to me is really saying “No” to the one who sent me.

The Return of the Seventy-Two

17 When the 72t followers returned, they were excited and said, “Lord, even the demons obeyed when we spoke in your name!”

18 Jesus told them:
I saw Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning. 19 t I have given you the power to trample on snakes and scorpions and to defeat the power of your enemy Satan. Nothing can harm you.

20 But don't be happy because evil spirits obey you. Be happy that your names are written in heaven!

Jesus Thanks His Father

(Matthew 11.25-27; 13.16,17)

21 At that same time, Jesus felt the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit, t and he said:
My Father, Lord of heaven and earth, I am grateful that you hid all this from wise and educated people and showed it to ordinary people. Yes, Father, this is what pleased you.

22  t My Father has given me everything, and he is the only one who knows the Son. The only one who really knows the Father is the Son. But the Son wants to tell others about the Father, so they can know him too.
23 Jesus then turned to his disciples and said to them in private, “You are really blessed to see what you see!

24 Many prophets and kings were eager to see what you see and to hear what you hear. But I tell you they did not see or hear.”

The Good Samaritan

25  t An expert in the Law of Moses stood up and asked Jesus a question to see what he would say. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to have eternal life?”

26 Jesus answered, “What is written in the Scriptures? How do you understand them?”

27  t The man replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind.’ They also say, ‘Love your neighbors as much as you love yourself.’ ”

28  t Jesus said, “You have given the right answer. If you do this, you will have eternal life.”

29 But the man wanted to show that he knew what he was talking about. So he asked Jesus, “Who are my neighbors?”

30 Jesus replied:
As a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, robbers attacked him and grabbed everything he had. They beat him up and ran off, leaving him half dead.
31 A priest happened to be going down the same road. But when he saw the man, he walked by on the other side.

32 Later a temple helpert came to the same place. But when he saw the man who had been beaten up, he also went by on the other side.
33  t A man from Samaria then came traveling along that road. When he saw the man, he felt sorry for him 34 and went over to him. He treated his wounds with olive oil and winet and bandaged them. Then he put him on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.

35 The next morning he gave the innkeeper two silver coins and said, “Please take care of the man. If you spend more than this on him, I will pay you when I return.”

36 Then Jesus asked, “Which one of these three people was a real neighbor to the man who was beaten up by robbers?”

37 The expert in the Law of Moses answered, “The one who showed pity.”
Jesus said, “Go and do the same!”

Martha and Mary

40 Martha was worried about all that had to be done. Finally, she went to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn't it bother you that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!”
41 The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and upset about so many things, 42 but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is best, and it will not be taken away from her.”
