Lucas 11

Enseñanza acerca de la oración

1  Una vez, Jesús estaba orando en cierto lugar. Cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos se le acercó y le dijo:
—Señor, enséñanos a orar, así como Juan les enseñó a sus discípulos.

2 Jesús dijo:
—Deberían orar de la siguiente manera:t
Padre, que siempre sea santificado tu nombre.
Que tu reino venga pronto.

3 Danos cada día el alimento que necesitamost

4 y perdónanos nuestros pecados,
así como nosotros perdonamos a los que pecan contra nosotros.
Y no permitas que cedamos ante la tentación.t

5 Luego utilizó la siguiente historia para enseñarles más acerca de la oración: «Supongan que uno de ustedes va a la casa de un amigo a medianoche para pedirle que le preste tres panes. Le dices: 6 “Acaba de llegar de visita un amigo mío y no tengo nada para darle de comer”. 7 Supongan que ese amigo grita desde el dormitorio: “No me molestes. La puerta ya está cerrada, y mi familia y yo estamos acostados. No puedo ayudarte”. 8 Les digo que, aunque no lo haga por amistad, si sigues tocando a la puerta el tiempo suficiente, él se levantará y te dará lo que necesitas debido a tu audaz insistencia.t

9 »Así que les digo, sigan pidiendo y recibirán lo que piden; sigan buscando y encontrarán; sigan llamando, y la puerta se les abrirá. 10 Pues todo el que pide, recibe; todo el que busca, encuentra; y a todo el que llama, se le abrirá la puerta.

11 »Ustedes, los que son padres, si sus hijos les pident un pescado, ¿les dan una serpiente en su lugar? 12 O si les piden un huevo, ¿les dan un escorpión? ¡Claro que no! 13 Así que si ustedes, gente pecadora, saben dar buenos regalos a sus hijos, cuánto más su Padre celestial dará el Espíritu Santo a quienes lo pidan».

Jesús y el príncipe de los demonios

14 Cierto día, Jesús expulsó un demonio de un hombre que no podía hablar y, cuando el demonio salió, el hombre comenzó a hablar. Las multitudes quedaron asombradas, 15 pero algunos dijeron: «Con razón puede expulsar demonios. Él recibe su poder de Satanás,t el príncipe de los demonios». 16 Otros, con la intención de poner a Jesús a prueba, le exigían que les mostrara alguna señal milagrosa del cielo para demostrar su autoridad.

17 Jesús conocía sus pensamientos, así que dijo: «Todo reino dividido por una guerra civil está condenado al fracaso. Una familia dividida por peleas se desintegrará. 18 Ustedes dicen que mi poder proviene de Satanás, pero si Satanás está dividido y pelea contra sí mismo, ¿cómo puede sobrevivir su reino? 19 Entonces, si mi poder proviene de Satanás, ¿qué me dicen de sus propios exorcistas quienes también expulsan demonios? Así que ellos los condenarán a ustedes por lo que acaban de decir. 20 Sin embargo, si yo expulso a los demonios por el poder de Dios,t entonces el reino de Dios ha llegado y está entre ustedes. 21 Cuando un hombre fuerte, como Satanás, está armado y protege su palacio, sus posesiones están seguras, 22 hasta que alguien aún más fuerte lo ataca y lo vence, le quita sus armas y se lleva sus pertenencias.

23 »El que no está conmigo a mí se opone, y el que no trabaja conmigo, en realidad, trabaja en mi contra.

24 »Cuando un espíritu malignot sale de una persona, va al desierto en busca de descanso, pero como no lo encuentra, dice: “Volveré a la persona de la cual salí”. 25 De modo que regresa y encuentra que su antigua casa está barrida y en orden. 26 Entonces el espíritu busca a otros siete espíritus más malignos que él, y todos entran en la persona y viven allí. Y entonces esa persona queda peor que antes».

27 Mientras él hablaba, una mujer de la multitud exclamó: «¡Que Dios bendiga a tu madre, el vientre del cual saliste y los pechos que te amamantaron!».

28 Jesús respondió: «Pero aún más bendito es todo el que escucha la palabra de Dios y la pone en práctica».

La señal de Jonás

29 Al apretujarse la multitud contra Jesús, él dijo: «Esta generación maligna sigue pidiéndome que le muestre una señal milagrosa, pero la única que le daré será la señal de Jonás. 30 Lo que le sucedió a él fue una señal para los habitantes de Nínive de que Dios lo había enviado. Lo que le suceda al Hijo del Hombret será una señal para la gente de este tiempo de que él fue enviado por Dios.

31 »El día del juicio, la reina de Sabat se levantará contra esta generación y la condenará, porque vino de una tierra lejana para oír la sabiduría de Salomón. Ahora alguien superior a Salomón está aquí, pero ustedes se niegan a escuchar. 32 Los habitantes de Nínive también se levantarán contra esta generación el día del juicio y la condenarán, porque ellos se arrepintieron de sus pecados al escuchar la predicación de Jonás. Ahora alguien superior a Jonás está aquí, pero ustedes se niegan a arrepentirse.

La lámpara del cuerpo

33 »Nadie enciende una lámpara y luego la esconde o la pone debajo de una canasta.t En cambio, una lámpara se coloca en un lugar alto donde todos los que entren en la casa puedan ver su luz.

34 »Tu ojo es una lámpara que da luz a tu cuerpo. Cuando tu ojo es bueno, todo tu cuerpo está lleno de luz; pero cuando tu ojo es malo, tu cuerpo está lleno de oscuridad. 35 Asegúrate de que la luz que crees tener no sea en realidad oscuridad. 36 Si estás lleno de luz, sin rincones oscuros, entonces toda tu vida será radiante, como si un reflector te llenara con su luz».

Jesús critica a los líderes religiosos

37 Mientras Jesús hablaba, uno de los fariseos lo invitó a comer en su casa. Jesús fue y se sentó a la mesa.t 38 Su anfitrión se sorprendió de que se sentara a la mesa sin antes realizar la ceremonia de lavarse las manos que exigía la costumbre judía. 39 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «Ustedes, los fariseos, son tan cuidadosos para limpiar la parte exterior de la taza y del plato pero ustedes están sucios por dentro, ¡llenos de avaricia y de perversidad! 40 ¡Necios! ¿No hizo Dios tanto el interior como el exterior? 41 Por lo tanto, limpien el interior dando de sus bienes a los pobres, y quedarán completamente limpios.

42 »¡Qué aflicción les espera, fariseos! Pues se cuidan de dar el diezmo sobre el más mínimo ingreso de sus jardines de hierbas,t pero pasan por alto la justicia y el amor de Dios. Es cierto que deben diezmar, pero sin descuidar las cosas más importantes.

43 »¡Qué aflicción les espera, fariseos! Pues les encanta ocupar los asientos de honor en las sinagogas y recibir saludos respetuosos cuando caminan por las plazas. 44 ¡Sí, qué aflicción les espera! Pues son como tumbas escondidas en el campo. Las personas caminan sobre ellas sin saber de la corrupción que están pisando».

45 —Maestro —le dijo un experto en la ley religiosa—, nos has insultado a nosotros también con lo que has dicho.

46 —Sí —dijo Jesús—, ¡qué aflicción les espera también a ustedes, expertos en la ley religiosa! Pues aplastan a la gente bajo el peso de exigencias religiosas insoportables y jamás mueven un dedo para aligerar la carga. 47  ¡Qué aflicción les espera! Pues levantan monumentos a los profetas que sus propios antepasados mataron tiempo atrás. 48  Por lo cual, ustedes quedan como testigos que aprueban lo que hicieron sus antepasados. Ellos mataron a los profetas, ¡y ustedes se convierten en cómplices al edificar los monumentos! 49  Esto es lo que Dios en su sabiduría dijo acerca de ustedes:t “Les enviaré profetas, y apóstoles, pero ellos matarán a unos y perseguirán a otros”.

50 »Como consecuencia, a esta generación se le hará responsable del asesinato de todos los profetas de Dios desde la creación del mundo, 51  desde el asesinato de Abel hasta el de Zacarías, a quien mataron entre el altar y el santuario. Sí, de verdad se culpará a esta generación.

52  »¡Qué aflicción les espera a ustedes, expertos en la ley religiosa! Pues le quitan a la gente la llave del conocimiento. Ustedes mismos no entran al reino e impiden que otros entren.

53 Mientras Jesús se retiraba, los maestros de la ley religiosa y los fariseos se pusieron agresivos y trataron de provocarlo con muchas preguntas. 54 Querían tenderle una trampa para que dijera algo que pudieran usar en su contra.

LUKE 11

Prayer

(Matthew 6.9-13; 7.7-11)

1 When Jesus had finished praying, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his followers to pray.”

2 So Jesus told them, “Pray in this way:
‘Father, help us
to honor your name.
Come and set up
your kingdom.

3 Give us each day
the food we need.t

4 Forgive our sins,
as we forgive everyone
who has done wrong to us.
And keep us
from being tempted.’ ”

5 Then Jesus went on to say:
Suppose one of you goes to a friend in the middle of the night and says, “Let me borrow three loaves of bread. 6 A friend of mine has dropped in, and I don't have a thing for him to eat.”

7 And suppose your friend answers, “Don't bother me! The door is bolted, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up to give you something.”

8 He may not get up and give you the bread, just because you are his friend. But he will get up and give you as much as you need, simply because you are not ashamed to keep on asking.
9 So I tell you to ask and you will receive, search and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you. 10 Everyone who asks will receive, everyone who searches will find, and the door will be opened for everyone who knocks. 11 Which one of you fathers would give your hungry child a snake if the child asked for a fish? 12 Which one of you would give your child a scorpion if the child asked for an egg?

13 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks.

Jesus and the Ruler //of Demons

(Matthew 12.22-30; Mark 3.20-27)

15 t But some people said, “He forces out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons!”
16  t Others wanted to put Jesus to the test. So they asked him to show them a sign from God.

17 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said:
A kingdom where people fight each other will end up in ruin. And a family that fights will break up. 18 If Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom last? Yet you say that I force out demons by the power of Beelzebul. 19 If I use his power to force out demons, whose power do your own followers use to force them out? They are the ones who will judge you.

20 But if I use God's power to force out demons, it proves that God's kingdom has already come to you.
21 When a strong man arms himself and guards his home, everything he owns is safe. 22 But if a stronger man comes and defeats him, he will carry off the weapons in which the strong man trusted. Then he will divide with others what he has taken.

23 t If you are not on my side, you are against me. If you don't gather in the crop with me, you scatter it.

Return of an Evil Spirit

(Matthew 12.43-45)

26 it goes off and finds seven other evil spirits even worse than itself. They all come and make their home there, and that person ends up in worse shape than before.

Being Really Blessed

27 While Jesus was still talking, a woman in the crowd spoke up, “The woman who gave birth to you and nursed you is blessed!”

28 Jesus replied, “That's true, but the people who are really blessed are the ones who hear and obey God's message!”t

A Sign from God

(Matthew 12.38-42; Mark 8.12)

29  t As crowds were gathering around Jesus, he said:
You people of today are evil! You keep looking for a sign from God. But what happened to Jonaht is the only sign you will be given. 30 t Just as Jonah was a sign to the people of Nineveh, the Son of Man will be a sign to the people of today. 31 t When the judgment comes, the Queen of the Southt will stand there with you and condemn you. She traveled a long way to hear Solomon's wisdom, and yet here is something far greater than Solomon.

32 t The people of Nineveh will also stand there with you and condemn you. They turned to God when Jonah preached, and yet here is something far greater than Jonah.

Light

(Matthew 5.15; 6.22,23)

36 If you have light, and nothing is dark, then light will be everywhere, as when a lamp shines brightly on you.

Jesus Condemns the Pharisees //and Teachers of the Law of Moses

(Matthew 23.1-36; Mark 12.38-40; Luke 20.45-47)

39 So the Lord said to him:
You Pharisees clean the outside of cups and dishes, but on the inside you are greedy and evil. 40 You fools! Didn't God make both the outside and the inside?t

41 If you would only give what you have to the poor, everything you do would please God.

42  t You Pharisees are in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your gardens, such as mint and rue. But you cheat people, and you don't love God. You should be fair and kind to others and still give a tenth to God.
43 You Pharisees are in for trouble! You love the front seats in the synagogues, and you like to be greeted with honor in the market.

44 But you are in for trouble! You are like unmarked gravest that people walk on without even knowing it.

45 A teacher of the Law of Moses spoke up, “Teacher, you said cruel things about us.”

46 Jesus replied:
You teachers are also in for trouble! You load people down with heavy burdens, but you won't lift a finger to help them carry the loads. 47 Yes, you are really in for trouble. You build monuments to honor the prophets your own people murdered long ago.

48 You must think that was the right thing for your people to do, or else you would not have built monuments for the prophets they murdered.
49 Because of your evil deeds, the Wisdom of God said, “I will send prophets and apostles to you. But you will murder some and mistreat others.” 50 You people living today will be punished for all the prophets who have been murdered since the beginning of the world.

51 t This includes every prophet from the time of Abel to the time of Zechariah, t who was murdered between the altar and the temple. You people will certainly be punished for all of this.

52 You teachers of the Law of Moses are really in for trouble! You carry the keys to the door of knowledge about God. But you never go in, and you keep others from going in.
53 Jesus was about to leave, but the teachers and the Pharisees wanted to get even with him. They tried to make him say what he thought about other things, 54 so they could catch him saying something wrong.
