Lucas 11

Jesús y la oración

1 En cierta ocasión, Jesús estaba orando en un lugar y, cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos le dijo: «Señor, enséñanos a orar, así como Juan enseñó a sus discípulos.»2 Jesús les dijo: «Cuando ustedes oren, digan: “Padre, santificado sea tu nombre. Venga tu reino.3 El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy.4 Perdónanos nuestros pecados, porque también nosotros perdonamos a todos los que nos deben. Y no nos metas en tentación.”»

5 También les dijo: «¿Quién de ustedes, que tenga un amigo, va a verlo a medianoche y le dice: “Amigo, préstame tres panes,6 porque un amigo mío ha venido a visitarme, y no tengo nada que ofrecerle”?7 Aquél responderá desde adentro y le dirá: “No me molestes. La puerta ya está cerrada, y mis niños están en la cama conmigo. No puedo levantarme para dártelos”8 Yo les digo que, aunque no se levante a dárselos por ser su amigo, sí se levantará por su insistencia, y le dará todo lo que necesite.9 Así que pidan, y se les dará. Busquen, y encontrarán. Llamen, y se les abrirá.10 Porque todo aquel que pide, recibe; y el que busca, encuentra; y al que llama, se le abre.11 ¿Quién de ustedes, si su hijo le pide pan, le da una piedra? ¿O si le pide un pescado, en lugar del pescado le da una serpiente?12 ¿O si le pide un huevo, le da un escorpión?13 Pues si ustedes, que son malos, saben dar cosas buenas a sus hijos, ¡cuánto más el Padre celestial dará el Espíritu Santo a quienes se lo pidan!»

Una casa dividida contra sí misma

14 Jesús estaba expulsando un demonio que había dejado mudo a un hombre, y cuando el demonio salió, el mudo comenzó a hablar y la gente quedó asombrada.15 Pero algunos dijeron: «Éste expulsa a los demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, príncipe de los demonios.»t16 Otros, para ponerlo a prueba, le pedían alguna señal del cielo.t17 Pero él, que sabía lo que ellos pensaban, les dijo: «Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo queda devastado. No hay casa que permanezca, si internamente está dividida.18 Ya que ustedes dicen que yo expulso a los demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, ¿cómo podrá permanecer el reino de Satanás, si él está dividido contra sí mismo?19 Porque, si yo expulso a los demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, ¿por el poder de quién los expulsan los hijos de ustedes? Por tanto, ellos mismos serán los jueces de ustedes.20 Pero si yo expulso a los demonios por el poder de Dios, ciertamente el reino de Dios ha llegado a ustedes.21 Cuando un hombre fuerte está bien armado y protege su palacio, lo que posee no corre peligro.22 Pero cuando otro más fuerte que él viene y lo derrota, le quita todas las armas en las que confiaba, y reparte el botín.23 El que no está conmigo, está contra mí;t y el que conmigo no recoge, desparrama.

El espíritu impuro que vuelve

24 »Cuando el espíritu impuro sale del hombre, anda por lugares áridos en busca de reposo, pero al no encontrarlo dice: “Volveré a mi casa, de donde salí.”25 Y cuando llega y la encuentra barrida y adornada,26 va y trae otros siete espíritus peores que él, y todos entran y allí se quedan a vivir. ¡Y el estado final de aquel hombre resulta peor que el primero!»

Los que en verdad son dichosos

27 Mientras Jesús decía esto, una mujer de entre la multitud levantó la voz y le dijo: «¡Dichoso el vientre que te dio a luz, y los senos que te amamantaron!»28 Jesús respondió: «Más bien, dichosos los que escuchan la palabra de Dios, y la obedecen.»

La gente perversa demanda señal

29 Como la multitud que lo rodeaba iba en aumento, Jesús comenzó a decir: «¡Qué malvada es esta generación! Demanda una señal,t pero no tendrán más señal que la del profeta Jonás.30 Porque así como Jonás fue una señal para los ninivitas,t también el Hijo del Hombre será una señal para esta generación.31 En el día del juicio, la reina del Sur se levantará con la gente de esta generación, y la condenará; porque ella vino desde los confines de la tierra para escuchar la sabiduría de Salomón,t y aquí hay alguien que es más grande que Salomón.32 En el día del juicio, los habitantes de Nínive se levantarán con esta generación, y la condenarán; porque al oír la predicación de Jonás se arrepintieron,t y aquí hay alguien que es más grande que Jonás.

La lámpara del cuerpo

33 »Nadie esconde la luz que se enciende, ni la pone debajo de un cajón, sino en el candelero,t para que los que entran vean la luz.34 La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo. Cuando tu ojo es bueno, también todo tu cuerpo esta lleno de luz; pero cuando tu ojo es malo, también tu cuerpo estará a oscuras.35 Ten cuidado, no sea que la luz que hay en ti resulte ser oscuridad.36 Así que, si todo tu cuerpo está lleno de luz, y no participa de la oscuridad, será todo luminoso, como cuando una lámpara te alumbra con su resplandor.»

Jesús acusa a fariseos y a intérpretes de la ley

37 Después de que Jesús terminó de hablar, un fariseo lo invitó a que comiera con él. Jesús entró en la casa y se sentó a la mesa.38 Al fariseo le extrañó ver que Jesús no se hubiera lavado antes de comer,39 pero el Señor le dijo: «Ustedes los fariseos limpian por fuera el vaso y el plato, pero por dentro están llenos de robo y de maldad.40 ¡Necios! ¿Acaso el que hizo lo de afuera, no hizo también lo de adentro?41 Den limosna de lo que está adentro, y así todo quedará limpio para ustedes.

42 »¡Ay de ustedes, fariseos!, que dan el diezmo de la menta y de la ruda, y de toda clase de hortalizas,t pero pasan por alto la justicia y el amor de Dios. Esto es necesario que lo hagan, sin dejar de hacer aquello.43 ¡Ay de ustedes, fariseos!, que aman los primeros lugares en las sinagogas, y los saludos en las plazas.44 ¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Son ustedes como sepulcros que no se ven, y los que pasan por encima no lo saben.»

45 Uno de los intérpretes de la ley, le dijo: «Maestro, cuando dices esto, nos insultas también a nosotros.»46 Y Jesús dijo: «¡Ay de ustedes también, intérpretes de la ley! Porque imponen a los otros cargas muy difíciles de llevar, pero ustedes ni siquiera con un dedo las tocan.47 ¡Ay de ustedes, los que erigen los sepulcros de los profetas que mataron los antepasados de ustedes!48 Con ello, no sólo son ustedes testigos sino cómplices de lo que hicieron sus antepasados, pues ellos los mataron y ustedes les erigen sus sepulcros.49 Por eso, Dios en su sabiduría dijo: “Les enviaré profetas y apóstoles. De ellos, a unos matarán y a otros perseguirán.”50 Por lo tanto, a la gente de esta generación se le demandará la sangre de todos los profetas, que desde la fundación del mundo ha sido derramada,51 desde la sangre de Abelt hasta la sangre de Zacarías,t que murió entre el altar y el templo. Sí, les aseguro que será demandada de esta generación.52 ¡Ay de ustedes, intérpretes de la ley! Porque se han apoderado de la llave del conocimiento, ¡y ni ustedes entraron, y a los que sí querían entrar se lo impidieron!»

53 Como Jesús les decía todo esto, los escribas y los fariseos comenzaron a hostigarlo en gran manera, y a provocarlo para que hablara de muchas cosas,54 y le tendían trampas para atraparlo en sus propias palabras.

LUKE 11

Prayer

(Matthew 6.9-13; 7.7-11)

1 When Jesus had finished praying, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his followers to pray.”

2 So Jesus told them, “Pray in this way:
‘Father, help us
to honor your name.
Come and set up
your kingdom.

3 Give us each day
the food we need.t

4 Forgive our sins,
as we forgive everyone
who has done wrong to us.
And keep us
from being tempted.’ ”

5 Then Jesus went on to say:
Suppose one of you goes to a friend in the middle of the night and says, “Let me borrow three loaves of bread. 6 A friend of mine has dropped in, and I don't have a thing for him to eat.”

7 And suppose your friend answers, “Don't bother me! The door is bolted, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up to give you something.”

8 He may not get up and give you the bread, just because you are his friend. But he will get up and give you as much as you need, simply because you are not ashamed to keep on asking.
9 So I tell you to ask and you will receive, search and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you. 10 Everyone who asks will receive, everyone who searches will find, and the door will be opened for everyone who knocks. 11 Which one of you fathers would give your hungry child a snake if the child asked for a fish? 12 Which one of you would give your child a scorpion if the child asked for an egg?

13 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks.

Jesus and the Ruler //of Demons

(Matthew 12.22-30; Mark 3.20-27)

15 t But some people said, “He forces out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons!”
16  t Others wanted to put Jesus to the test. So they asked him to show them a sign from God.

17 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said:
A kingdom where people fight each other will end up in ruin. And a family that fights will break up. 18 If Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom last? Yet you say that I force out demons by the power of Beelzebul. 19 If I use his power to force out demons, whose power do your own followers use to force them out? They are the ones who will judge you.

20 But if I use God's power to force out demons, it proves that God's kingdom has already come to you.
21 When a strong man arms himself and guards his home, everything he owns is safe. 22 But if a stronger man comes and defeats him, he will carry off the weapons in which the strong man trusted. Then he will divide with others what he has taken.

23 t If you are not on my side, you are against me. If you don't gather in the crop with me, you scatter it.

Return of an Evil Spirit

(Matthew 12.43-45)

26 it goes off and finds seven other evil spirits even worse than itself. They all come and make their home there, and that person ends up in worse shape than before.

Being Really Blessed

27 While Jesus was still talking, a woman in the crowd spoke up, “The woman who gave birth to you and nursed you is blessed!”

28 Jesus replied, “That's true, but the people who are really blessed are the ones who hear and obey God's message!”t

A Sign from God

(Matthew 12.38-42; Mark 8.12)

29  t As crowds were gathering around Jesus, he said:
You people of today are evil! You keep looking for a sign from God. But what happened to Jonaht is the only sign you will be given. 30 t Just as Jonah was a sign to the people of Nineveh, the Son of Man will be a sign to the people of today. 31 t When the judgment comes, the Queen of the Southt will stand there with you and condemn you. She traveled a long way to hear Solomon's wisdom, and yet here is something far greater than Solomon.

32 t The people of Nineveh will also stand there with you and condemn you. They turned to God when Jonah preached, and yet here is something far greater than Jonah.

Light

(Matthew 5.15; 6.22,23)

36 If you have light, and nothing is dark, then light will be everywhere, as when a lamp shines brightly on you.

Jesus Condemns the Pharisees //and Teachers of the Law of Moses

(Matthew 23.1-36; Mark 12.38-40; Luke 20.45-47)

39 So the Lord said to him:
You Pharisees clean the outside of cups and dishes, but on the inside you are greedy and evil. 40 You fools! Didn't God make both the outside and the inside?t

41 If you would only give what you have to the poor, everything you do would please God.

42  t You Pharisees are in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your gardens, such as mint and rue. But you cheat people, and you don't love God. You should be fair and kind to others and still give a tenth to God.
43 You Pharisees are in for trouble! You love the front seats in the synagogues, and you like to be greeted with honor in the market.

44 But you are in for trouble! You are like unmarked gravest that people walk on without even knowing it.

45 A teacher of the Law of Moses spoke up, “Teacher, you said cruel things about us.”

46 Jesus replied:
You teachers are also in for trouble! You load people down with heavy burdens, but you won't lift a finger to help them carry the loads. 47 Yes, you are really in for trouble. You build monuments to honor the prophets your own people murdered long ago.

48 You must think that was the right thing for your people to do, or else you would not have built monuments for the prophets they murdered.
49 Because of your evil deeds, the Wisdom of God said, “I will send prophets and apostles to you. But you will murder some and mistreat others.” 50 You people living today will be punished for all the prophets who have been murdered since the beginning of the world.

51 t This includes every prophet from the time of Abel to the time of Zechariah, t who was murdered between the altar and the temple. You people will certainly be punished for all of this.

52 You teachers of the Law of Moses are really in for trouble! You carry the keys to the door of knowledge about God. But you never go in, and you keep others from going in.
53 Jesus was about to leave, but the teachers and the Pharisees wanted to get even with him. They tried to make him say what he thought about other things, 54 so they could catch him saying something wrong.
