Lucas 11

Jesús y la oración

1 Aconteció que estaba Jesús orando en un lugar y, cuando terminó, uno de sus discípulos le dijo:
—Señor, enséñanos a orar, como también Juan enseñó a sus discípulos.

2 Él les dijo:
—Cuando oréis, decid:
»“Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos,
santificado sea tu nombre.
Venga tu Reino.
Hágase tu voluntad, como en el cielo, así también en la tierra.

3 El pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy.

4 Perdónanos nuestros pecados, porque también nosotros perdonamos a todos los que nos deben.
Y no nos metas en tentación,
mas líbranos del mal.”

5 Les dijo también:
—¿Quién de vosotros que tenga un amigo, va a él a medianoche y le dice: “Amigo, préstame tres panes,6 porque un amigo mío ha venido a mí de viaje y no tengo qué ofrecerle”;7 y aquél, respondiendo desde adentro, le dice: “No me molestes; la puerta ya está cerrada y mis niños están conmigo en cama. No puedo levantarme y dártelos”?8 Os digo que, si no se levanta a dárselos por ser su amigo, al menos por su importunidad se levantará y le dará todo lo que necesite.9 Por eso os digo: Pedid, y se os dará; buscad, y hallaréis; llamad, y se os abrirá,

10 porque todo aquel que pide, recibe; y el que busca, halla; y al que llama, se le abrirá.
11 »¿Qué padre de vosotros, si su hijo le pide pan, le dará una piedra? ¿O si le pide pescado, en lugar de pescado le dará una serpiente?12 ¿O si le pide un huevo, le dará un escorpión?

13 Pues si vosotros, siendo malos, sabéis dar buenas dádivas a vuestros hijos, ¿cuánto más vuestro Padre celestial dará el Espíritu Santo a los que se lo pidan?

Una casa dividida contra sí misma

14 Estaba Jesús echando fuera un demonio, que era mudo; y aconteció que, después de salir el demonio, el mudo habló y la gente quedó maravillada.

15 Pero algunos de ellos decían:
—Por Beelzebú, príncipe de los demonios, echa fuera los demonios.

16 Otros, para tentarlo, le pedían señal del cielo.

17 Pero él, conociendo los pensamientos de ellos, les dijo:
—Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo es asolado, y una casa dividida contra sí misma, cae.18 De igual manera, si Satanás está dividido contra sí mismo, ¿cómo permanecerá su reino? Os digo esto ya que decís que por Beelzebú echo yo fuera los demonios.19 Si yo echo fuera los demonios por Beelzebú, ¿vuestros hijos por quién los echan? Por tanto, ellos serán vuestros jueces.

20 Pero si por el dedo de Dios echo yo fuera los demonios, ciertamente el reino de Dios ha llegado a vosotros.
21 »Mientras el hombre fuerte y armado guarda su palacio, en paz está lo que posee.

22 Pero cuando viene otro más fuerte que él y lo vence, le quita todas las armas en que confiaba y reparte el botín.

23 »El que no es conmigo, contra mí es; y el que conmigo no recoge, desparrama.

El espíritu impuro que vuelve

24 »Cuando el espíritu impuro sale del hombre, anda por lugares secos buscando reposo; pero, al no hallarlo, dice: “Volveré a mi casa, de donde salí.”25 Cuando llega, la halla barrida y adornada.

26 Entonces va y toma otros siete espíritus peores que él; y entran y viven allí, y el estado final de aquel hombre viene a ser peor que el primero.

Los que en verdad son bienaventurados

27 Mientras él decía estas cosas, una mujer de entre la multitud levantó la voz y le dijo:
—¡Bienaventurado el vientre que te llevó y los senos que mamaste!

28 Pero él dijo:
—¡Antes bien, bienaventurados los que oyen la palabra de Dios y la obedecen!

La generación perversa demanda señal

29 Apiñándose las multitudes, comenzó a decir:
«Esta generación es mala; demanda señal, pero señal no le será dada, sino la señal de Jonás,30 porque así como Jonás fue señal a los ninivitas, lo será también el Hijo del hombre a esta generación.31 La reina del Sur se levantará en el juicio contra los hombres de esta generación y los condenará, porque ella vino desde los confines de la tierra para oír la sabiduría de Salomón, y en este lugar hay alguien que es más que Salomón.

32 Los hombres de Nínive se levantarán en el juicio contra esta generación y la condenarán, porque ante la predicación de Jonás se arrepintieron, y en este lugar hay alguien que es más que Jonás.

La lámpara del cuerpo

33 »Nadie pone en oculto la luz encendida, ni debajo de una vasija, sino en el candelero, para que los que entran vean la luz.34 La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo. Cuando tu ojo es bueno, también todo tu cuerpo está lleno de luz; pero cuando tu ojo es maligno, también tu cuerpo está en tinieblas.35 Cuidado, pues, no sea que la luz que en ti hay no sea luz, sino tinieblas.

36 Así que, si todo tu cuerpo está lleno de luz, no teniendo parte alguna de tinieblas, será todo luminoso, como cuando una lámpara te alumbra con su resplandor.»

Jesús acusa a fariseos y a intérpretes de la Ley

37 Tan pronto terminó de hablar, un fariseo le rogó que comiera con él; y entrando Jesús en la casa, se sentó a la mesa.38 El fariseo, cuando lo vio, se extrañó de que no se hubiera lavado antes de comer.

39 Pero el Señor le dijo:
—Vosotros los fariseos limpiáis lo de fuera del vaso y del plato, pero por dentro estáis llenos de rapacidad y de maldad.40 ¡Necios!, el que hizo lo de fuera, ¿no hizo también lo de dentro?

41 Dad limosna de lo que tenéis, y entonces todo os será limpio.

42 »Pero ¡ay de vosotros, fariseos!, que diezmáis la menta, la ruda y toda hortaliza, y pasáis por alto la justicia y el amor de Dios. Esto os era necesario hacer, sin dejar de hacer aquello.

43 »¡Ay de vosotros, fariseos!, que amáis las primeras sillas en las sinagogas y las salutaciones en las plazas.

44 »¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, que sois como sepulcros que no se ven, y los hombres que andan por encima no lo saben.

45 Respondiendo uno de los intérpretes de la Ley, le dijo:
—Maestro, cuando dices esto, también nos ofendes a nosotros.

46 Él dijo:
—¡Ay de vosotros también, intérpretes de la Ley!, porque cargáis a los hombres con cargas que no pueden llevar, pero vosotros ni aun con un dedo las tocáis.
47 »¡Ay de vosotros, que edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas a quienes mataron vuestros padres!

48 De modo que sois testigos y consentidores de los hechos de vuestros padres; a la verdad ellos los mataron, pero vosotros edificáis sus sepulcros.
49 »Por eso la sabiduría de Dios también dijo: “Les enviaré profetas y apóstoles; y de ellos, a unos matarán y a otros perseguirán”,50 para que se demande de esta generación la sangre de todos los profetas que se ha derramado desde la fundación del mundo,

51 desde la sangre de Abel hasta la sangre de Zacarías, que murió entre el altar y el Templo; sí, os digo que será demandada de esta generación.

52 »¡Ay de vosotros, intérpretes de la Ley!, porque habéis quitado la llave de la ciencia; vosotros mismos no entrasteis, y a los que entraban se lo impedisteis.
53 Diciéndoles él estas cosas, los escribas y los fariseos comenzaron a acosarlo en gran manera y a provocarlo para que hablara de muchas cosas,

54 acechándolo y procurando cazar alguna palabra de su boca para acusarlo.

LUKE 11

Prayer

(Matthew 6.9-13; 7.7-11)

1 When Jesus had finished praying, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his followers to pray.”

2 So Jesus told them, “Pray in this way:
‘Father, help us
to honor your name.
Come and set up
your kingdom.

3 Give us each day
the food we need.t

4 Forgive our sins,
as we forgive everyone
who has done wrong to us.
And keep us
from being tempted.’ ”

5 Then Jesus went on to say:
Suppose one of you goes to a friend in the middle of the night and says, “Let me borrow three loaves of bread. 6 A friend of mine has dropped in, and I don't have a thing for him to eat.”

7 And suppose your friend answers, “Don't bother me! The door is bolted, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up to give you something.”

8 He may not get up and give you the bread, just because you are his friend. But he will get up and give you as much as you need, simply because you are not ashamed to keep on asking.
9 So I tell you to ask and you will receive, search and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you. 10 Everyone who asks will receive, everyone who searches will find, and the door will be opened for everyone who knocks. 11 Which one of you fathers would give your hungry child a snake if the child asked for a fish? 12 Which one of you would give your child a scorpion if the child asked for an egg?

13 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks.

Jesus and the Ruler //of Demons

(Matthew 12.22-30; Mark 3.20-27)

15 t But some people said, “He forces out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons!”
16  t Others wanted to put Jesus to the test. So they asked him to show them a sign from God.

17 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said:
A kingdom where people fight each other will end up in ruin. And a family that fights will break up. 18 If Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom last? Yet you say that I force out demons by the power of Beelzebul. 19 If I use his power to force out demons, whose power do your own followers use to force them out? They are the ones who will judge you.

20 But if I use God's power to force out demons, it proves that God's kingdom has already come to you.
21 When a strong man arms himself and guards his home, everything he owns is safe. 22 But if a stronger man comes and defeats him, he will carry off the weapons in which the strong man trusted. Then he will divide with others what he has taken.

23 t If you are not on my side, you are against me. If you don't gather in the crop with me, you scatter it.

Return of an Evil Spirit

(Matthew 12.43-45)

26 it goes off and finds seven other evil spirits even worse than itself. They all come and make their home there, and that person ends up in worse shape than before.

Being Really Blessed

27 While Jesus was still talking, a woman in the crowd spoke up, “The woman who gave birth to you and nursed you is blessed!”

28 Jesus replied, “That's true, but the people who are really blessed are the ones who hear and obey God's message!”t

A Sign from God

(Matthew 12.38-42; Mark 8.12)

29  t As crowds were gathering around Jesus, he said:
You people of today are evil! You keep looking for a sign from God. But what happened to Jonaht is the only sign you will be given. 30 t Just as Jonah was a sign to the people of Nineveh, the Son of Man will be a sign to the people of today. 31 t When the judgment comes, the Queen of the Southt will stand there with you and condemn you. She traveled a long way to hear Solomon's wisdom, and yet here is something far greater than Solomon.

32 t The people of Nineveh will also stand there with you and condemn you. They turned to God when Jonah preached, and yet here is something far greater than Jonah.

Light

(Matthew 5.15; 6.22,23)

36 If you have light, and nothing is dark, then light will be everywhere, as when a lamp shines brightly on you.

Jesus Condemns the Pharisees //and Teachers of the Law of Moses

(Matthew 23.1-36; Mark 12.38-40; Luke 20.45-47)

39 So the Lord said to him:
You Pharisees clean the outside of cups and dishes, but on the inside you are greedy and evil. 40 You fools! Didn't God make both the outside and the inside?t

41 If you would only give what you have to the poor, everything you do would please God.

42  t You Pharisees are in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your gardens, such as mint and rue. But you cheat people, and you don't love God. You should be fair and kind to others and still give a tenth to God.
43 You Pharisees are in for trouble! You love the front seats in the synagogues, and you like to be greeted with honor in the market.

44 But you are in for trouble! You are like unmarked gravest that people walk on without even knowing it.

45 A teacher of the Law of Moses spoke up, “Teacher, you said cruel things about us.”

46 Jesus replied:
You teachers are also in for trouble! You load people down with heavy burdens, but you won't lift a finger to help them carry the loads. 47 Yes, you are really in for trouble. You build monuments to honor the prophets your own people murdered long ago.

48 You must think that was the right thing for your people to do, or else you would not have built monuments for the prophets they murdered.
49 Because of your evil deeds, the Wisdom of God said, “I will send prophets and apostles to you. But you will murder some and mistreat others.” 50 You people living today will be punished for all the prophets who have been murdered since the beginning of the world.

51 t This includes every prophet from the time of Abel to the time of Zechariah, t who was murdered between the altar and the temple. You people will certainly be punished for all of this.

52 You teachers of the Law of Moses are really in for trouble! You carry the keys to the door of knowledge about God. But you never go in, and you keep others from going in.
53 Jesus was about to leave, but the teachers and the Pharisees wanted to get even with him. They tried to make him say what he thought about other things, 54 so they could catch him saying something wrong.
