Lucas 11

Jesús enseña a orar

1 Una vez, Jesús estaba orando en cierto lugar. Cuando terminó, uno de sus seguidores le dijo:
—Señor, enséñanos a orar, así como Juan les enseñó a sus seguidores.

2 Entonces Jesús les dijo:
—Cuando oren, digan así:
»"Padre, que siempre se dé honra
a tu santo nombre.
Venga tu reino.
3 Danos hoy los alimentos
que necesitamos cada día,

4 y perdona nuestros pecados,
porque nosotros también perdonamos
a todos los que nos han hecho mal.
No nos dejes caer en tentación".

5 Entonces Jesús les dijo:
—Supongan que uno de ustedes tiene un amigo y va a su casa a la media noche a decirle: "Préstame tres panes".6 Es que un amigo mío que está de viaje ha venido a visitarme y no tengo nada para darle de comer.7 Tu amigo responde desde adentro de la casa: "¡No me molestes! La puerta ya está cerrada, mis niños y yo ya estamos en la cama y no me puedo levantar a darte nada".

8 Les digo que tal vez no se levante a darte nada por amistad, pero tu insistencia lo hará darte todo lo que necesites.
9 »Entonces yo les digo: No se cansen de pedir, y Dios les dará; sigan buscando, y encontrarán; llamen a la puerta una y otra vez, y se les abrirá.

10 Porque todo el que pide, recibe; el que busca, encuentra, y al que llama a la puerta se le abrirá.
11 »Si un hijo suyo les pide un pescado, ¿le dan una serpiente en lugar de un pescado?12 O si les pide un huevo, ¿le dan un escorpión?

13 Pues si ustedes, aun siendo malos, saben cómo darles cosas buenas a sus hijos, imagínense cuánto más dispuesto estará su Padre celestial a darles el Espíritu Santo a aquellos que le piden».

Jesús y Satanás

14 Jesús estaba expulsando a un demonio mudo de un hombre que no podía hablar. Tan pronto como el demonio salió, el hombre empezó a hablar y la multitud se asombró.

15 Pero algunos de ellos dijeron: «Él expulsa a los demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, el jefe de los demonios».
16 Como otros querían ponerlo a prueba, le pidieron que hiciera un milagro como señal de Dios.17 Él sabía lo que ellos estaban pensando y les dijo: «Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo será destruido, y toda familia dividida contra sí misma se acabará.18 Si Satanás se divide contra sí mismo, entonces ¿cómo puede sobrevivir su reino? Les digo esto porque ustedes dicen que expulso demonios por el poder de Beelzebú.19 Pero si es verdad que yo expulso demonios por el poder de Beelzebú, ¿con qué poder expulsa su gente los demonios? Su propia gente demostrará que ustedes están equivocados.

20 Pero si yo expulso demonios por el poder de Dios, entonces está claro que el reino de Diost ya ha llegado a ustedes.
21 »Cuando un guerrero poderoso protege su palacio con todo su armamento, todo lo que le pertenece está seguro.

22 Pero si alguien más poderoso que él lo ataca y lo vence, ese toma posesión del armamento en que el otro confiaba, y reparte el botín.

23 »El que no está conmigo, está en mi contra; y el que no me ayuda a recoger la cosecha, la desparrama.

El regreso del espíritu maligno

24 »Cuando un espíritu malignot sale de una persona, pasa por lugares secos. Busca dónde quedarse a descansar, pero no encuentra nada. Entonces el espíritu dice: "Voy a volver a la casa de donde salí".25 Al llegar se da cuenta de que está limpia y ordenada.

26 Entonces va y trae a otros siete espíritus peores que él y se van a vivir allí. Al final, esa persona queda peor de lo que estaba antes».

Afortunados los que obedecen

27 Mientras decía esto, una mujer de la multitud le gritó:
—¡Qué afortunadat fue la mujer que te dio a luz y te alimentó!

28 Pero Jesús dijo:
—Más bien, qué afortunados son los que escuchan la palabra de Dios y la obedecen.

Danos pruebas

29 Al reunirse la multitud, Jesús dijo: «La generación actual es mala. Busca una señal milagrosa, pero no se le va a dar ninguna señal, solamente la que se le dio a Jonást,30 quien fue una señal para los de Nínive. De la misma manera, el Hijo del hombret será una señal para la gente de estos tiempos.31 En el día del juicio, la reina del Surt se levantará y condenará a los hombres de está generación, pues ella vino desde muy lejos para aprender de la sabiduría de Salomón. ¡Y yo les digo que aquí hay alguien más grande que Salomón!

32 En el día del juicio, los hombres de Nínive se levantarán contra esta generación y la condenarán, porque ellos cambiaron su vida cuando oyeron el mensaje de Jonás. ¡Y yo les digo que aquí hay alguien más grande que Jonás!

Sean la luz del mundo

33 »Nadie enciende una lámpara para esconderla o para ponerla debajo de un cesto. Por el contrario, la pone sobre el candelero para que los que entren tengan luz.34 La lámpara del cuerpo son los ojos. Si miras a otros con ganas de ayudarles, todo el cuerpo está lleno de luz. Pero con los ojos los miras con envida, todo el cuerpo está en la oscuridad.35 Por lo tanto, cuídate de que la luz que está en ti no sea oscuridad.

36 Si tu cuerpo está lleno de luz y no hay oscuridad en él, será iluminado completamente. Será como una lámpara que te alumbra con su luz».

Jesús critica a los líderes religiosos

37 Cuando Jesús terminó de hablar, un fariseot le pidió que comieran juntos. Así que Jesús entró y tomó lugar a la mesa,38 pero no se lavó las manost antes de comer y eso sorprendió al fariseo.

39 Entonces el Señor Jesús le dijo:
—Su idea de limpieza, fariseos, es como limpiar vasos o platos sólo por fuera. Por dentro, siguen llenos de deseos de robar y dañar a los demás.40 ¡Insensatos! ¿No hizo Dios tanto lo de adentro como lo de afuera?

41 Mejor pongan atención a lo de adentro. Ayuden a los pobres y entonces todo quedará limpio en ustedes.

42 »¡Pobres de ustedes, fariseos! Ustedes dan a Dios la décima parte de todo lo que tienen, aun de la menta, de la ruda y de todas las demás plantas de su jardín, pero no tratan a la gente con justicia y no aman a Dios. Más bien hagan eso, sin olvidarse de hacer lo otro.

43 »Pobres de ustedes fariseos, porque les gusta tener los lugares de honor en las sinagogast y que se les salude con respeto en las plazas.

44 »Pobres de ustedes, porque son como tumbas sin lápida que contaminan a la gente que sin darse cuenta camina sobre ellas».

45 Uno de los expertos de la ley le respondió:
—Maestro, al decir esto nos insultas también a nosotros.

46 Pero Jesús dijo:
—Pobres de ustedes también, expertos de la ley, porque cargan a la gente con reglas más difíciles de lo que ellos pueden cumplir. ¡Y ustedes ni siquiera mueven un dedo para cumplirlas!
47 »Pobres de ustedes, porque edifican los sepulcros de los profetas, pero fueron sus antepasados quienes los mataron.48 Así demuestran que ustedes están de acuerdo con lo que sus antepasados hicieron, porque ellos los mataron y ustedes construyen sus tumbas.49 Por esta razón, Dios en su sabiduría dijo: "Les enviaré profetas y apóstoles y a algunos los matarán y a otros los perseguirán".50 Entonces ustedes, los de esta generación, pagarán por la sangre de todos los profetas, que ha sido derramada desde el principio del mundo,

51 desde el asesinato de Abel hasta el asesinato de Zacarías.t Zacarías fue asesinado entre el altar y el templot. Sí, yo les digo, ustedes los de estos tiempos pagarán por ello.

52 »Pobres de ustedes expertos de la ley, porque se apropiaron de la llave del conocimiento acerca de Dios. Ustedes mismos no entraron ni tampoco dejaron entrar a los que estaban tratando de hacerlo».
53 Cuando Jesús salía, los maestros de la ley y los fariseos empezaron a importunarlo y a hacerle preguntas sobre muchos temas.

54 Trataban de atrapar a Jesús diciendo algo malo.

Luke 11

Instruction about Prayer

1 It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples."2 And He said to them, "When you pray, say:
'tFather, hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.

3 'Give us each day our daily bread.

4 'And forgive us our sins,
For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.'"

5 Then He said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves;6 for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him';7 and from inside he answers and says, 'Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.'8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

9 "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.11 Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?12 Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he?13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

Pharisees' Blasphemy

14 And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute; when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed.15 But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons."16 Others, to test Him, were demanding of Him a sign from heaven.17 But He knew their thoughts and said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and a house divided against itself falls.18 If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.19 And if I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? So they will be your judges.20 But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed.22 But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.23 He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.

24 "When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.'25 And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order.26 Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first."

27 While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed."28 But He said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it."

The Sign of Jonah

29 As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, "This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah.30 For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.31 The Queen of the South will rise up with the men of this generation at the judgment and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.32 The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.

33 "No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.34 The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.35 Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.36 If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays."

Woes upon the Pharisees

37 Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee *asked Him to have lunch with him; and He went in, and reclined at the table. 38 When the Pharisee saw it, he was surprised that He had not first ceremonially washed before the meal.39 But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness.40 You foolish ones, did not He who made the outside make the inside also?41 But give that which is within as charity, and then all things are clean for you.

42 "But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithe of mint and rue and every kind of garden herb, and yet disregard justice and the love of God; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the chief seats in the synagogues and the respectful greetings in the market places.44 Woe to you! For you are like concealed tombs, and the people who walk over them are unaware of it."

45 One of the tlawyers *said to Him in reply, "Teacher, when You say this, You insult us too."46 But He said, "Woe to you lawyers as well! For you weigh men down with burdens hard to bear, while you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers.47 Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them.48 So you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you build their tombs.49 For this reason also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and some they will persecute,50 so that the blood of all the prophets, shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation,51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.'52 Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves did not enter, and you hindered those who were entering."

53 When He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to question Him closely on many subjects,54 plotting against Him to catch Him in something He might say.
