Lucas 12

No sean como los fariseos

1 Entonces se reunieron miles de personas, tantas que se atropellaban unas a otras. Antes de hablarle a la gente, Jesús les habló primero a sus seguidores: «Cuídense de la levadura de los fariseost, que es la hipocresía.2 Porque no hay nada encubierto que no llegue a descubrirse, ni nada oculto que no llegue a darse a conocer.

3 Es así como todo lo que digan en la oscuridad, saldrá a la luz. Todo lo que digan a alguien al oído en las habitaciones, se contará a toda la gente desde las azoteas.

Sólo témanle a Dios

4 »Les digo, amigos míos, que no les tengan miedo a los que matan el cuerpo y después de eso no pueden hacer nada más.

5 Déjenme poner en claro a quién deben temer: témanle a Dios, quien después de matar el cuerpo, tiene el poder de mandarlo al infierno. Sí, yo les digo, témanle a él.
6 »Cinco pajaritos valen sólo dos moneditas, pero no importa, porque Dios no se olvida de ninguno de ellos.

7 Dios hasta les tiene contados a ustedes cada uno de sus cabellos; así que no tengan miedo, ustedes valen más que muchos pajaritos.

No se avergüencen de Jesús

8 »Yo les digo, si ante la gente alguien está dispuesto a decir que cree en mí, entonces el Hijo del hombret se declarará a favor de él ante los ángeles de Dios.

9 Pero el que me niegue ante los demás, será negado también ante los ángeles de Dios.

10 »Dios perdonará incluso a quien reniegue del Hijo del hombre, pero no perdonará a quien reniegue del Espíritu Santo.
11 »Cuando los lleven ante las sinagogast, los gobernantes y las autoridades, no se preocupen de cómo se van a defender y qué van a decir.

12 El Espíritu Santo les enseñará en ese momento lo que deben decir».

Jesús habla en contra de la avaricia

13 Entonces alguien de la multitud le dijo a Jesús:
—Maestro, dile a mi hermano que comparta la herencia conmigo.

14 Pero Jesús le dijo:
—Hombre, ¿quién me nombró juez de ustedes o árbitro de sus pleitos?

15 Luego Jesús les dijo:
—Aléjense de toda avaricia porque la vida no depende del tener muchas cosas.
16 Entonces les contó una historiat: «Un hombre rico tenía un terreno que produjo una cosecha muy buena.17 Él pensó: "¿Qué hago ahora que no tengo donde guardar la cosecha?"18 Entonces se dijo: "Esto es lo que voy a hacer: tumbaré todos mis graneros y los haré más grandes. Así podré guardar allí toda mi cosecha y todo lo demás.19 Me diré a mí mismo: Tienes bastante acumulado para muchos años. Entonces tómalo con calma, come, bebe y diviértete".

20 Pero Dios le dijo: "Tonto, esta noche morirás, y entonces ¿quién se quedará con todo lo que guardaste?"

21 »Esto es lo que pasa con el que consigue mucho para sí mismo, pero no es rico ante los ojos de Dios».

Busquen primero el reino de Dios

22 Después les dijo a sus seguidores: «Por eso les digo que no se preocupen por lo que van a comer ni por la ropa que se van a poner.23 La vida es más que la comida y el cuerpo más que la ropa.24 Fíjense en los cuervos, que no siembran ni cosechan. Tampoco tienen bodegas ni graneros, y aun así, Dios los alimenta. ¡Ustedes valen mucho más que las aves!25 ¿Quién de ustedes con preocuparse va a añadir una hora a su vida?

26 Si no pueden hacer ni siquiera eso, ¿qué caso tiene preocuparse por lo demás?
27 »Fíjense cómo crecen los lirios. Ellos no trabajan ni hilan para hacer su vestido. Pero les aseguro que ni siquiera el rey Salomón con toda su gloria se vistió como uno de ellos.28 Así que, si Dios viste así a todo lo que crece en el campo, que hoy tiene vida pero que mañana será quemado en un horno, con mucha más razón cuidará de ustedes. ¡No sean gente de poca fe!29 No estén pendientes de lo que van a comer o a beber, ni se preocupen por eso.30 La gente que no conoce a Dios trata de conseguir esas cosas, pero su Padre sabe que ustedes necesitan todo esto.

31 En vez de eso, busquen el reino de Diost, y se les dará todo lo que necesitan.

No confíen en las riquezas

32 »No tengan miedo, pequeño rebaño, porque su Padre quiere entregarles el reino.33 Vendan lo que tienen y den el dinero a los pobres. Consigan bolsas que no se desgasten; tesoro en el cielo que no se acabe, donde ningún ladrón puede alcanzarlo ni la polilla puede destruirlo,

34 porque donde esté su tesoro, allí estará su corazón.

Estén siempre listos

35 »¡Estén listos! Vístanse y tengan las lámparas encendidas.36 Sean como los siervos que están esperando que su patrón regrese de una fiesta de bodas. El patrón viene, llama a la puerta y ellos abren de inmediato.37 Qué bien les irá a esos siervos a quienes el patrón encuentra despiertos y listos cuando él regresa a casa. Les digo la verdad: el patrón pedirá a los siervos que ocupen su lugar en la mesa, se dispondrá y él mismo les servirá.38 Tal vez los siervos tengan que esperar hasta la media noche o más tarde, pero les va a ir bien cuando llegue el patrón y los encuentre esperándolo.39 Recuerden esto: si el dueño de la casa supiera a qué hora viene el ladrón, entonces no lo dejaría entrar a su casa.

40 Así que ustedes también estén listos, porque el Hijo del hombret vendrá a la hora menos pensada».

Los siervos reciben lo que merecen

41 Entonces Pedro dijo:
—¿Nos cuentas esta historiat a nosotros o a toda la gente?

42 El Señor dijo:
—¿Quién es el administrador responsable y digno de confianza? Ese será a quien el señor de la casa encargará de alimentar a su debido tiempo a los demás siervos.43 ¡Qué afortunadot aquel siervo que cuando su señor regresa, lo encuentra cumpliendo su deber!44 Les digo la verdad: el patrón lo pondrá a cargo de todas sus cosas.45 Por otra parte, supongan que ese siervo se dice a sí mismo: "Mi señor se va a demorar". Comienza a pegarles a los demás siervos, incluso a las mujeres, come, bebe y se emborracha.

46 Su señor volverá el día en que menos se lo espere y a la hora en que menos se lo imagine. Lo castigará fuertemente y lo mandará a ocupar un lugar con los que no obedecen.
47 »El siervo que sabe lo que quiere su patrón y no se prepara ni hace lo que él quiere, será castigado con muchos golpes.

48 Pero el siervo que no sabe lo que el patrón quiere y hace algo que merece ser castigado, recibirá menos golpes. Se espera más del que se le ha dado más. El que tiene más privilegios, tendrá más responsabilidad.

Jesús provocará desacuerdos

49 »Vine a traer fuego a la tierra y ¡cómo quisiera que ya estuviera ardiendo!50 Pero antes tengo que enfrentar un bautismo diferente,t ¡y cómo me angustio hasta que se realice!51 ¿Ustedes piensan que vine a traer la paz a la tierra? Les digo que no, sino que vine a causar división.52 De ahora en adelante, una familia de cinco será dividida contra sí misma. Estarán tres contra dos y dos contra tres.

53 Se dividirán, el papá estará en contra de su hijo y el hijo estará en contra de su papá; la mamá estará en contra de su hija y la hija estará en contra de su mamá; la suegra estará en contra de su nuera y la nuera estará en contra de su suegra».

Entiendan los tiempos

54 Entonces Jesús le dijo a la multitud:
—Cuando ustedes ven una nube que viene del occidente, dicen: "Lloverá", y pronto empieza a llover.55 Cuando sopla el viento del sur, ustedes dicen: "Hará mucho calor", y pronto empieza a hacer calor.

56 ¡Hipócritas! Son buenos para interpretar el aspecto del cielo y de la tierra, ¿cómo es que no saben interpretar lo que está pasando en estos tiempos?

Sé sabio y evita ser juzgado

57 »¿Por qué no pueden decidir ustedes mismos lo que está bien?58 Cuando tu adversario te demande, intenta arreglar el problema por todos los medios antes de llegar al juzgado. Porque si no arreglas antes, esa persona te arrastrará al juez, y el juez te entregará al guardia y el guardia te echará a la cárcel.

59 Te digo: no saldrás de la cárcel hasta que pagues hasta el último centavo».

Luke 12

God Knows and Cares

1 Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.2 But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.3 Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.

4 "I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!6 Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

8 "And I say to you, everyone who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man will confess him also before the angels of God;9 but he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him.11 When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say;12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

Covetousness Denounced

13 Someone in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me."14 But He said to him, "Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?"15 Then He said to them, "Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions."16 And He told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man was very productive.17 And he began reasoning to himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?'18 Then he said, 'This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry."'20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?'21 So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

22 And He said to His disciples, "For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on.23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!25 And which of you by worrying can add a single thour to his tlife's span?26 If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters?27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.28 But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith!29 And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying.30 For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things.31 But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.

33 "Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys.34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Be in Readiness

35 "Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.36 Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks.37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.38 Whether he comes in the tsecond watch, or even in the tthird, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

39 "But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.40 You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect."

41 Peter said, "Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?"42 And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time?43 Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.45 But if that slave says in his heart, 'My master will be a long time in coming,' and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk;46 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.47 And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes,48 but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

Christ Divides Men

49 "I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled!50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!51 Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

54 And He was also saying to the crowds, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, 'A shower is coming,' and so it turns out.55 And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, 'It will be a hot day,' and it turns out that way.56 You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time?

57 "And why do you not even on your own initiative judge what is right?58 For while you are going with your opponent to appear before the magistrate, on your way there make an effort to settle with him, so that he may not drag you before the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.59 I say to you, you will not get out of there until you have paid the very last cent."
