Lucas 13

Arrepiéntanse o perecerán

1 En ese momento estaban allí algunos que le contaron a Jesús el caso de los galileos cuya sangre Pilato había mezclado con los sacrificios que ellos ofrecían.2 Jesús les dijo: «¿Y creen ustedes que esos galileos eran más pecadores que el resto de los galileos, sólo porque padecieron así?3 ¡Pues yo les digo que no! Y si ustedes no se arrepienten, también morirán como ellos.4 Y en el caso de los dieciocho, que murieron aplastados al derrumbarse la torre de Siloé, ¿creen ustedes que ellos eran más culpables que el resto de los habitantes de Jerusalén?5 ¡Pues yo les digo que no! Y si ustedes no se arrepienten, también morirán como ellos.»

Parábola de la higuera estéril

6 También les dijo esta parábola: «Un hombre había plantado una higuera en su viña, y cuando fue a buscar higos en ella no encontró ninguno.7 Entonces le dijo al viñador: “Hace tres años que vengo a buscar higos en esta higuera, y nunca encuentro uno solo. ¡Córtala, para que no se desaproveche también la tierra!”8 Pero el viñador le dijo: “Señor, déjala todavía un año más, hasta que yo le afloje la tierra y la abone.9 Si da fruto, qué bueno. Y si no, córtala entonces.”»

Jesús sana a una mujer en el día de reposo

10 Un día de reposo, Jesús estaba enseñando en una sinagoga,11 y allí estaba una mujer que hacía ya dieciocho años sufría de un espíritu de enfermedad. Andaba encorvada, y de ninguna manera podía enderezarse.12 Cuando Jesús la vio, la llamó y le dijo: «Mujer, quedas libre de tu enfermedad.»13 Y en el mismo instante en que Jesús puso las manos sobre ella, la mujer se enderezó y comenzó a glorificar a Dios.14 Pero el jefe de la sinagoga se enojó porque Jesús la había sanado en el día de reposo, así que le dijo a la gente: «Hay seis días en los que se puede trabajar. Para ser sanados, vengan en esos días; pero no en el día de reposo.»t15 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «Hipócrita, ¿acaso cualquiera de ustedes no desata su buey, o su asno, del pesebre y lo lleva a beber, aun cuando sea día de reposo?16 Y a esta hija de Abrahán, que Satanás había tenido atada durante dieciocho años, ¿no se le habría de liberar, aunque hoy sea día de reposo?»17 Ante estos razonamientos de Jesús, todos sus adversarios quedaron avergonzados, pero todo el pueblo se alegraba de las muchas maravillas que él realizaba.

Parábola de la semilla de mostaza

18 Jesús dijo también: «¿Semejante a qué es el reino de Dios? ¿Con qué lo compararé?19 Pues es semejante al grano de mostaza que alguien toma y siembra en su huerto, y ese grano crece hasta convertirse en un gran árbol, en cuyas ramas ponen su nido las aves del cielo.»

Parábola de la levadura

20 Y volvió a decir: «¿Con qué compararé el reino de Dios?21 Pues es semejante a la levadura que una mujer toma y guarda en tres medidas de harina, hasta que toda la masa fermenta.»

La puerta estrecha

22 En su camino a Jerusalén, Jesús iba enseñando por ciudades y aldeas.23 Alguien le preguntó: «Señor, ¿son pocos los que se salvan?» Y él respondió:24 «Hagan todo lo posible para entrar por la puerta angosta, porque yo les digo que muchos tratarán de entrar y no podrán hacerlo.25 En cuanto el padre de familia se levante y cierre la puerta, y ustedes desde afuera comiencen a golpear la puerta y a gritar: “¡Señor, Señor; ábrenos!”, él les responderá: “No sé de dónde salieron ustedes.”26 Entonces ustedes comenzarán a decir: “Hemos comido y bebido en tu compañía, y tú has enseñado en nuestras plazas.”27 Pero él les responderá: “No sé de dónde salieron ustedes. ¡Apártense de mí todos ustedes, hacedores de injusticia!”t28 Allí habrá entonces llanto y rechinar de dientes,t cuando vean a Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob, y a todos los profetas, en el reino de Dios, mientras que ustedes son expulsados.29 Porque habrá quienes vengan del oriente y del occidente, del norte y del sur, para sentarse a la mesa en el reino de Dios.t30 Pero habrá algunos últimos que serán primeros, y algunos primeros que serán últimos.»t

Lamento de Jesús sobre Jerusalén

31 En ese preciso momento llegaron algunos fariseos, y le dijeron: «Vete de aquí, porque Herodes te quiere matar.»32 Jesús les dijo: «Vayan y díganle a ese zorro: “Mira, hoy y mañana voy a expulsar demonios y a sanar enfermos, y al tercer día terminaré mi obra.”33 Pero es necesario que hoy, mañana, y pasado mañana, siga mi camino, porque no puede ser que un profeta muera fuera de Jerusalén.34 ¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que son enviados a ti! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, como junta la gallina a sus polluelos debajo de sus alas, y no quisiste!35 Pues bien, la casa de ustedes va a quedar desolada; y les digo que ustedes no volverán a verme hasta el día en que digan: “¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!”»t

LUKE 13

Turn Back to God

1 About this same time Jesus was told that Pilate had given orders for some people from Galilee to be killed while they were offering sacrifices.

2 Jesus replied:
Do you think that these people were worse sinners than everyone else in Galilee just because of what happened to them? 3 Not at all! But you can be sure that if you don't turn back to God, every one of you will also be killed. 4 What about those 18 people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them? Do you think they were worse than everyone else in Jerusalem?

5 Not at all! But you can be sure that if you don't turn back to God, every one of you will also die.

A Story about a Fig Tree

6 Jesus then told them this story:
A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard. One day he went out to pick some figs, but he didn't find any.

7 So he said to the gardener, “For three years I have come looking for figs on this tree, and I haven't found any yet. Chop it down! Why should it take up space?”
8 The gardener answered, “Master, leave it for another year. I'll dig around it and put some manure on it to make it grow.

9 Maybe it will have figs on it next year. If it doesn't, you can have it cut down.”

Healing a Woman //on the Sabbath

13 He placed his hands on her, and at once she stood up straight and praised God.

14  t The man in charge of the synagogue was angry because Jesus had healed someone on the Sabbath. So he said to the people, “Each week has six days when we can work. Come and be healed on one of those days, but not on the Sabbath.”
15 The Lord replied, “Are you trying to fool someone? Won't any one of you untie your ox or donkey and lead it out to drink on a Sabbath? 16 This woman belongs to the family of Abraham, but Satan has kept her bound for 18 years. Isn't it right to set her free on the Sabbath?”

17 Jesus' words made his enemies ashamed. But everyone else in the crowd was happy about the wonderful things he was doing.

A Mustard Seed and Yeast

(Matthew 13.31-33; Mark 4.30-32)

19 It is like what happens when someone plants a mustard seed in a garden. The seed grows as big as a tree, and birds nest in its branches.”
20 Then Jesus said, “What can I compare God's kingdom with?

21 It is like what happens when a woman mixes yeast into three batches of flour. Finally, all the dough rises.”

The Narrow Door

(Matthew 7.13,14,21-23)

23 Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”
Jesus answered:
24 Do all you can to go in by the narrow door! A lot of people will try to get in, but will not be able to.

25 Once the owner of the house gets up and locks the door, you will be left standing outside. You will knock on the door and say, “Sir, open the door for us!”
But the owner will answer, “I don't know a thing about you! ”

26 Then you will start saying, “We dined with you, and you taught in our streets.”

27  t But he will say, “I really don't know who you are! Get away from me, you evil people!”
28  t t Then when you have been thrown outside, you will weep and grit your teeth because you will see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God's kingdom. 29 People will come from all directions and sit down to feast in God's kingdom.

30 t There the ones who are now least important will be the most important, and those who are now most important will be least important.

Jesus and Herod

31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said, “You had better get away from here, because Herodt wants to kill you!”

32 Jesus said to them:
Go tell that fox, “I am going to force out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and three days later I'll be through.”

33 But I am going on my way today and tomorrow and the next day. After all, Jerusalem is the place where prophets are killed.

Jesus Loves Jerusalem

(Matthew 23.37-39)

35 t Now your temple will be deserted. You won't see me again until the time when you say,
“Blessed is the one who comes
in the name of the Lord.”
