Lukas 14

1 Und es begab sich, als er am Sabbat in das Haus eines Obersten der Pharisäer ging, um zu speisen , da beobachteten sie ihn.2 Und siehe, da war ein wassersüchtiger Mensch vor ihm.3 Und Jesus ergriff das Wort und redete zu den Gesetzesgelehrten und Pharisäern, indem er sprach: Ist es erlaubt, am Sabbat zu heilen?4 Sie aber schwiegen . Da rührte er ihn an, machte ihn gesund und entließ ihn.5 Und er begann und sprach zu ihnen: Wer von euch, wenn ihm sein Esel oder Ochse in den Brunnen fällt, wird ihn nicht sogleich herausziehen am Tag des Sabbats?6 Und sie konnten ihm nichts dagegen antworten.7 Er sagte aber zu den Gästen ein Gleichnis, da er bemerkte, wie sie sich die ersten Plätze aussuchten, und sprach zu ihnen:8 Wenn du von jemand zur Hochzeit eingeladen bist, so setze dich nicht auf den obersten Platz, damit nicht etwa ein Vornehmerer als du von ihm eingeladen ist,9 und nun der, der dich und ihn eingeladen hat, kommt und zu dir sagt: Mache diesem Platz! - und du dann beschämt den letzten Platz einnehmen musst.10 Sondern wenn du eingeladen bist, so geh hin und setze dich auf den letzten Platz, damit der, welcher dich eingeladen hat, wenn er kommt, zu dir spricht: Freund, rücke hinauf! Dann wirst du Ehre haben vor denen, die mit dir zu Tisch sitzen.11 Denn jeder, der sich selbst erhöht, wird erniedrigt werden; und wer sich selbst erniedrigt, der wird erhöht werden.12 Er sagte aber auch zu dem, der ihn eingeladen hatte: Wenn du ein Mittags- oder Abendmahl machst, so lade nicht deine Freunde, noch deine Brüder, noch deine Verwandten, noch reiche Nachbarn ein, damit nicht etwa auch sie dich wieder einladen und dir vergolten wird;13 sondern wenn du ein Gastmahl machst, so lade Arme, Krüppel, Lahme, Blinde ein,14 so wirst du glückselig sein; denn weil sie es dir nicht vergelten können, wird es dir vergolten werden bei der Auferstehung der Gerechten.15 Als nun einer, der mit ihm zu Tisch saß, dies hörte, sprach er zu ihm: Glückselig ist, wer das Brot isst im Reich Gottes!16 Er aber sprach zu ihm: Ein Mensch machte ein großes Mahl und lud viele dazu ein.17 Und er sandte seinen Knecht zur Stunde des Mahles, um den Geladenen zu sagen: Kommt , denn es ist schon alles bereit!18 Und sie fingen alle einstimmig an, sich zu entschuldigen. Der erste sprach zu ihm: Ich habe einen Acker gekauft und muss unbedingt hinausgehen und ihn ansehen; ich bitte dich, entschuldige mich!19 Und ein anderer sprach: Ich habe fünf Joch Ochsen gekauft und gehe hin, um sie zu erproben; ich bitte dich, entschuldige mich!20 Wieder ein anderer sprach: Ich habe eine Frau geheiratet, darum kann ich nicht kommen!21 Und jener Knecht kam wieder und berichtete das seinem Herrn. Da wurde der Hausherr zornig und sprach zu seinem Knecht: Geh schnell hinaus auf die Gassen und Plätze der Stadt und führe die Armen und Krüppel und Lahmen und Blinden herein!22 Und der Knecht sprach: Herr, es ist geschehen, wie du befohlen hast; es ist aber noch Raum da!23 Und der Herr sprach zu dem Knecht: Geh hinaus an die Landstraßen und Zäune und nötige sie hereinzukommen, damit mein Haus voll werde!24 Denn ich sage euch, dass keiner jener Männer, die eingeladen waren, mein Mahl schmecken wird!25 Es zog aber eine große Volksmenge mit ihm; und er wandte sich um und sprach zu ihnen:26 Wenn jemand zu mir kommt und hasst t nicht seinen Vater und seine Mutter, seine Frau und Kinder, Brüder und Schwestern, dazu aber auch sein eigenes Leben t , so kann er nicht mein Jünger sein.27 Und wer nicht sein Kreuz trägt und mir nachkommt, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein.28 Denn wer von euch, der einen Turm bauen will, setzt sich nicht zuvor hin und berechnet die Kosten, ob er die Mittel hat zur gänzlichen Ausführung,29 damit nicht etwa, wenn er den Grund gelegt hat und es nicht vollenden kann, alle, die es sehen, über ihn zu spotten beginnen30 und sagen: Dieser Mensch fing an zu bauen und konnte es nicht vollenden!31 Oder welcher König, der ausziehen will, um mit einem anderen König Krieg zu führen, setzt sich nicht zuvor hin und berät, ob er imstande ist, mit zehntausend dem zu begegnen, der mit zwanzigtausend gegen ihn anrückt?32 Wenn aber nicht, so sendet er, solange jener noch fern ist, eine Gesandtschaft und bittet um die Friedensbedingungen.33 So kann auch keiner von euch mein Jünger sein, der nicht allem entsagt, was er hat.34 Das Salz ist gut; wenn aber das Salz fade wird, womit soll es gewürzt werden?35 Es ist weder für das Erdreich noch für den Dünger tauglich; man wirft es hinaus. Wer Ohren hat zu hören, der höre!

LUKE 14

Jesus Heals a Sick Man

1 One Sabbath, Jesus was having dinner in the home of an important Pharisee, and everyone was carefully watching Jesus. 2 All of a sudden a man with swollen legs stood up in front of him. 3 Jesus turned and asked the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses, “Is it right to heal on the Sabbath?”

4 But they did not say a word.
Jesus took hold of the man. Then he healed him and sent him away. 5 t Afterwards, Jesus asked the people, “If your son or ox falls into a well, wouldn't you pull him out at once, even on the Sabbath?”

6 There was nothing they could say.

How To Be a Guest

7 Jesus saw how the guests had tried to take the best seats. So he told them:
8  t When you are invited to a wedding feast, don't sit in the best place. Someone more important may have been invited.

9 Then the one who invited you will come and say, “Give your place to this other guest!” You will be embarrassed and will have to sit in the worst place.
10 When you are invited to be a guest, go and sit in the worst place. Then the one who invited you may come and say, “My friend, take a better seat!” You will then be honored in front of all the other guests.

11 t If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.

12 Then Jesus said to the man who had invited him:
When you give a dinner or a banquet, don't invite your friends and family and relatives and rich neighbors. If you do, they will invite you in return, and you will be paid back. 13 When you give a feast, invite the poor, the paralyzed, the lame, and the blind.

14 They cannot pay you back. But God will bless you and reward you when his people rise from death.

The Great Banquet

(Matthew 22.1-10)

15 After Jesus had finished speaking, one of the guests said, “The greatest blessing of all is to be at the banquet in God's kingdom!”

16 Jesus told him:
A man once gave a great banquet and invited a lot of guests.

17 When the banquet was ready, he sent a servant to tell the guests, “Everything is ready! Please come.”

18 One guest after another started making excuses. The first one said, “I bought some land, and I've got to look it over. Please excuse me.”

19 Another guest said, “I bought five teams of oxen, and I need to try them out. Please excuse me.”

20 Still another guest said, “I've just now married, and I can't be there.”

21 The servant told his master what happened, and the master became so angry he said, “Go as fast as you can to every street and alley in town! Bring in everyone who is poor or paralyzed or blind or lame.”

22 When the servant returned, he said, “Master, I've done what you told me, and there is still plenty of room for more people.”
23 His master then told him, “Go out along the back roads and make people come in, so my house will be full.

24 Not one of the guests I first invited will get even a bite of my food!”

Being a Disciple

(Matthew 10.37,38)

25 Large crowds were walking along with Jesus, when he turned and said:

26  t You cannot be my disciple, unless you love me more than you love your father and mother, your wife and children, and your brothers and sisters. You cannot follow me unless you love me more than you love your own life.

27  t You cannot be my disciple unless you carry your own cross and follow me.
28 Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. What is the first thing you will do? Won't you sit down and figure out how much it will cost and if you have enough money to pay for it? 29 Otherwise, you will start building the tower, but not be able to finish. Then everyone who sees what is happening will laugh at you.

30 They will say, “You started building, but could not finish the job.”
31 What will a king do if he has only 10,000 soldiers to defend himself against a king who is about to attack him with 20,000 soldiers? Before he goes out to battle, won't he first sit down and decide if he can win? 32 If he thinks he won't be able to defend himself, he will send messengers and ask for peace while the other king is still a long way off.

33 So then, you cannot be my disciple unless you give away everything you own.
