Lucas 14

¿Está bien sanar en el día de descanso?

1 Un día de descansot, Jesús fue a comer a la casa de uno de los líderes fariseost. La gente que estaba allí estaba pendiente de lo que Jesús haría.2 En ese momento se le acercó un hombre que tenía una enfermedad que hinchaba el cuerpo.

3 Jesús se volvió a los expertos de la ley y a los fariseos y les preguntó:
—¿Está permitido sanar en el día de descanso o no?
4 Pero ellos se quedaron callados. Entonces Jesús tomó al enfermo, lo sanó y le dijo que podía irse.

5 Jesús les dijo a los fariseos y a los expertos de la ley:
—¿No es verdad que si su hijo o su buey se caen a un pozo ustedes lo sacarían de inmediato, incluso en el día de descanso?

6 No pudieron responderle nada.

No te las des de importante

7 Jesús vio cómo los invitados ocupaban los lugares de honor en la mesa. Entonces les dio una enseñanzat:8 «Cuando alguien te invite a una boda, no te sientes en el lugar de honor, porque alguien más importante que tú también pudo haber sido invitado.9 El que te invitó vendrá y te dirá: "Dale tu lugar a este hombre". Entonces tendrás que sentarte en un lugar aún menos importante que el primero, y te sentirás avergonzado.10 Al contrario, cuando seas invitado, ve y siéntate en el lugar menos importante, para que cuando venga el que te invitó, te diga: "Amigo, siéntate aquí, este lugar es mejor". Qué honor tendrás frente a todos los que estén presentes.

11 Porque el que se cree muy importante será humillado, y el que se humilla será engrandecido».

Serás recompensado

12 Entonces Jesús le dijo al fariseot que lo había invitado:
—Cuando ofrezcas una comida o una cena, no invites sólo a tus amigos, tus hermanos, tus familiares o a tus vecinos ricos. En otra ocasión ellos te devolverán la invitación, y esa será tu recompensa.13 En lugar de eso, cuando hagas una fiesta, invita a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos y a los ciegos.

14 Serás afortunadot de que ellos no tengan cómo pagarte, porque recibirás tu recompensa en la resurrección de los justos.

Historia de la gran cena

15 Cuando uno de los que estaba comiendo con él escuchó esto, dijo:
—Afortunadot el que participe en la cena en el reino de Diost.

16 Entonces Jesús le dijo:
—Un hombre estaba preparando una gran cena e invitó a mucha gente.17 Cuando llegó la hora de la cena, mandó a un siervo a decirles a los invitados: "¡Vengan, que todo está listo!"18 Pero uno tras otro, todos empezaron a inventar excusas. El primero dijo: "Compré unas tierras y ahora debo ir a revisarlas. Por favor discúlpame".19 Otro dijo: "Compré cinco yuntas de bueyes y ahora debo ir a probarlos. Por favor discúlpame".20 Otro dijo también: "Me acabo de casar y no puedo ir".21 Cuando el siervo regresó, le contó a su patrón lo que le habían dicho. El patrón se enojó mucho y le dijo: "¡Ve rápido a las calles y a los callejones de la ciudad y trae a la cena a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los ciegos y a los cojos!"22 Después el siervo le dijo: "Patrón, he hecho lo que me has ordenado y todavía hay espacio para más gente".23 Entonces le dijo al siervo: "Ve a los caminos y veredas, y haz venir a toda la gente para que se llene mi casa.

24 Porque te digo que ninguno de los que habían sido invitados probará mi cena".

El costo de seguir a Jesús

25 Jesús estaba caminando con mucha gente, y les dijo:26 «Si alguien viene a mí pero pone en primer lugar a su papá, a su mamá, a su esposa, a sus hijos, a sus hermanos y hermanas, no puede ser mi seguidor. El que me siga tiene que entregar hasta su propia vida.

27 Si alguien no carga la cruz que se le entrega al seguirme, entonces no puede ser mi seguidor.
28 »Cuando alguien va a construir una torre, se sienta primero a hacer un plan, ¿verdad? Tiene que ver si tiene el dinero para hacer el trabajo.29 Si no hace primero un plan, empezará a construir el edificio pero no lo podrá terminar y todos se burlarán de él.

30 Dirán: "Ese hombre empezó a construir el edificio, pero no fue capaz de terminarlo".
31 »O si un rey va a hacer una guerra contra otro, primero se sienta a hacer planes, ¿verdad? Si sólo tiene diez mil soldados hará planes para ver si puede derrotar al otro que tiene veinte mil soldados.

32 Si no le es posible derrotar al enemigo, aprovechará que todavía está lejos y le mandará mensajeros para hacer la paz.

33 »Es lo mismo con cada uno de ustedes: si no dejan todo lo que tienen, no pueden ser mis seguidores.

No pierdan la esencia

34 »La sal es buena, pero si pierde su sabor, ¿con qué se le salará de nuevo?

35 Ya no sirve para nada, ni para la tierra ni para abono. Hay que tirarla. ¡Oigan bien lo que les digo!»

Luke 14

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

1 It happened that when He went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching Him closely.2 And there in front of Him was a man suffering from dropsy.3 And Jesus answered and spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?"4 But they kept silent. And He took hold of him and healed him, and sent him away.5 And He said to them, "Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?"6 And they could make no reply to this.

Parable of the Guests

7 And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them,8 "When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him,9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give your place to this man,' and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place.10 But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, 'Friend, move up higher'; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you.11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

12 And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him, "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you in return and that will be your repayment.13 But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,14 and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

15 When one of those who were reclining at the table with Him heard this, he said to Him, "Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!"

Parable of the Dinner

16 But He said to him, "A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many;17 and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for everything is ready now.'18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, 'I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.'19 Another one said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.'20 Another one said, 'I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.'21 And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, 'Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.'22 And the slave said, 'Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.'23 And the master said to the slave, 'Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.'"

Discipleship Tested

25 Now large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them,26 "If anyone comes to Me, and does not thate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.28 For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him,30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.'31 Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand?32 Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.33 So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.

34 "Therefore, salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned?35 It is useless either for the soil or for the manure pile; it is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
