Luca 16

Gesù racconta altre parabole.

1 A questo punto Gesù raccontò ai discepoli: « Un uomo ricco aveva un amministratore che si occupava dei suoi affari, ma presto venne a sapere che questo amministratore sperperava i suoi averi.2 Così il padrone lo chiamò e gli disse: “È vero quello che dicono: che tu mi stai derubando?! Presentami tutti i conti, perché da adesso sei licenziato!”3 Il contabile pensò tra sé: “Ed ora che faccio disoccupato? Mi metto a zappare la terra? No, non ne ho la forza. Vado a chiedere l’elemosina?… No, mi vergognerei.4 Ma so io che cosa devo fare. Fra un po’ avrò un sacco di amici, che si prenderanno cura di me, anche se sarò a spasso!”5-6 Poi, ad uno ad uno, chiamò i debitori del suo padrone per esaminare la situazione. Al primo chiese: “Dimmi, quant’è il tuo debito?” “Gli debbo circa quattrocento litri di olio di oliva”, rispose l’uomo. “Ecco il contratto che hai firmato”, disse l’am-mi-ni-stra-tore, “scrivine subito un altro per la metà di ciò che gli devi!”7 Si presentò un altro debitore: “Quanto devi al mio padrone?” gli chiese l’amministratore. “Mille sacchi di grano”, fu la risposta. “Ecco”, suggerì l’altro, “sostituisci la tua fattura con questa per ottocento sacchi!”8 Ebbene, il ricco padrone dovette ammirare il mascalzone, perché era stato così astuto, perché gli uomini di questo mondo, nei loro rapporti di affari, sono più furbi degli uomini di Dio.9 E così vi dico: fatevi amici con la ricchezza materiale, cosicché quando finisce, sarete benvenuti in cielo.10 Se non siete onesti nelle piccole cose, non lo sarete neppure nelle cose importanti. E chi è disonesto nelle piccole cose, lo è anche nelle cose importanti.11 E se non ci si può fidare di voi per quanto riguarda le ricchezze del mondo, chi vi affiderà le vere ricchezze del cielo?12 Se non siete onesti nell’amministrare ciò che appartiene agli altri, chi vi affiderà quello che vi aspetta?13 Nessuno infatti può servire due padroni. Odierete uno e amerete l’altro, o viceversa; sarete entusiasti di uno e disprezzerete l’altro. Non potete servire contemporaneamente Dio e il denaro! »14 I Farisei, dato il loro attaccamento al denaro, naturalmente accolsero con scherno queste parole.15 Allora Gesù disse loro: « Voi vi ritenete giusti davanti agli uomini, ma Dio conosce i vostri cuori. Ciò che è esaltato fra gli uomini è ripugnante agli occhi di Dio.16 Finché Giovanni Battista non cominciò a predicare, le leggi di Mosè e i messaggi dei profeti erano le vostre uniche guide. Ma Giovanni vi annunciò la buona notizia che il Regno di Dio verrà presto ed ora moltitudini di persone premono per entrarvi.17 Ma questo non significa che la legge non sia più valida, no di certo, nemmeno nel più piccolo paragrafo! La legge è forte e incrollabile come il cielo e la terra.18 Chiunque divorzia da sua moglie e ne sposa un’altra commette adulterio, e chiunque sposa una donna divorziata commette adulterio ».19 « C’era una volta un uomo ricco », raccontava Gesù, « che aveva degli abiti splendidi e viveva ogni giorno nel lusso e nelle feste.20 E c’era un povero mendicante ammalato, di nome Lazzaro, che se ne stava accovacciato alla porta del ricco.21 Mentre era lì, con una gran voglia di sfamarsi con gli avanzi della tavola del ricco, i cani venivano a leccargli le piaghe.22 Un giorno, il povero Lazzaro morì e fu portato dagli angeli in paradiso nel luogo dove vanno i timorati di Dio, quando muoiono. Anche il ricco morì, fu sepolto,23 e la sua anima andò all’inferno. Là, fra i tormenti, vide a grande distanza Lazzaro con Abramo.24 “Padre Abramo!” gridò il ricco, “Abbi pietà di me! Di’ a Lazzaro che intinga la punta del suo dito nell’acqua e poi mandalo a rinfrescarmi la lingua, perché spasimo fra queste fiamme!”25 Ma Abramo gli rispose: “Figliolo, ricorda che durante la tua vita non ti è mancato mai nulla; Lazzaro invece non ha mai avuto niente! Ora egli è qui nella gioia, mentre tu sei fra i tormenti.26 Per di più, tra noi e voi v’è un grande abisso, e chi volesse venire da te non potrebbe, come pure nessuno di voi può venire da questa parte!”27 Allora il ricco disse: “Ti supplico, padre Abramo, manda almeno Lazzaro a casa di mio padre.28 Ho cinque fratelli: che li possa avvertire, perché non finiscano anche loro in questo luogo di tormenti, quando moriranno!”29 Ma Abramo gli rispose: “Le Scritture li hanno avvertiti più volte. I tuoi fratelli possono leggerle quando vogliono”.30 L’uomo replicò: “No, padre Abramo, loro non si prenderanno la briga di leggerle. Ma se vedono qualcuno che viene dal mondo dei morti, allora sì che potranno pentirsi e cambiare vita!”31 Ma Abramo disse: “Se non ascoltano le parole di Mosè e dei profeti, non ascolteranno neppure chi è resuscitato dalla morte!” »

Luke 16

1 And he said also unto the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he was wasting his goods.2 And he called him, and said unto him, What is this that I hear of thee? render the account of thy stewardship; for thou canst be no longer steward.3 And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing that my lord taketh away the stewardship from me? I have not strength to dig; to beg I am ashamed.4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.5 And calling to him each one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?6 And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bond, and sit down quickly and write fifty.7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. He saith unto him, Take thy bond, and write fourscore.8 And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light.9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.10 He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much.11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.14 And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him.15 And he said unto them, Ye are they that justify yourselves in the sight of men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.16 The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and every man entereth violently into it.17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall.18 Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth one that is put away from a husband committeth adultery.19 Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, faring sumptuously every day:20 and a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores,21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table; yea, even the dogs come and licked his sores.22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried.23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things: but now here he is comforted and thou art in anguish.26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that they that would pass from hence to you may not be able, and that none may cross over from thence to us.27 And he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house;28 for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.29 But Abraham saith, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one go to them from the dead, they will repent.31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if one rise from the dead.
