Lucas 16

Parábola del administrador astuto

1  Jesús les contó la siguiente historia a sus discípulos: «Había cierto hombre rico que tenía un administrador que manejaba sus negocios. Un día llegó la noticia de que el administrador estaba malgastando el dinero de su patrón. 2 Entonces el patrón lo llamó y le dijo: “¿Qué es esto que oigo acerca de ti? Prepara un informe final porque voy a despedirte”.

3 »El administrador pensó: “¿Y ahora qué haré? Mi jefe me ha despedido. No tengo fuerzas para cavar zanjas y soy demasiado orgulloso para mendigar. 4 Ah, ya sé cómo asegurarme de que tendré muchos amigos que me recibirán en sus casas cuando mi patrón me despida”.

5 »Entonces invitó a todo el que le debía dinero a su patrón para conversar sobre la situación. Le preguntó al primero: “¿Cuánto debes a mi patrón?”. 6 El hombre contestó: “Le debo tres mil litros de aceite de oliva”. Entonces el administrador le dijo: “Toma la factura y cámbiala a mil quinientos litros”.t

7 »Le preguntó al siguiente: “¿Cuánto le debes tú?”. “Le debo mil medidas de trigo”, respondió. “Toma la factura y cámbiala a ochocientas medidas”, le dijo.t

8 »El hombre rico tuvo que admirar a este pícaro deshonesto por su astucia. Y la verdad es que los hijos de este mundo son más astutos al lidiar con el mundo que los rodea que los hijos de la luz. 9 Aquí está la lección: usen sus recursos mundanos para beneficiar a otros y para hacer amigos. Entonces, cuando esas posesiones terrenales se acaben, ellos les darán la bienvenida a un hogar eterno.t

10 »Si son fieles en las cosas pequeñas, serán fieles en las grandes; pero si son deshonestos en las cosas pequeñas, no actuarán con honradez en las responsabilidades más grandes. 11 Entonces, si no son confiables con las riquezas mundanas, ¿quién les confiará las verdaderas riquezas del cielo?; 12 y si no son fieles con las cosas de otras personas, ¿por qué se les debería confiar lo que es de ustedes?

13 »Nadie puede servir a dos amos. Pues odiará a uno y amará al otro; será leal a uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a Dios y al dinero».

14 Los fariseos, que amaban mucho su dinero, oyeron todo eso y se burlaron de Jesús. 15 Entonces él les dijo: «A ustedes les encanta aparecer como personas rectas en público, pero Dios conoce el corazón. Lo que este mundo honra es detestable a los ojos de Dios.

16 »Hasta el tiempo de Juan el Bautista, la ley de Moisés y el mensaje de los profetas fueron sus guías; pero ahora se predica la Buena Noticia del reino de Dios, y todos están ansiosos por entrar.t 17 Eso no significa que la ley haya perdido su fuerza. Es más fácil que el cielo y la tierra desaparezcan, a que el más pequeño punto de la ley de Dios sea anulado.

18 »Por ejemplo, un hombre que se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra comete adulterio; y el que se case con una mujer divorciada de su esposo comete adulterio».

Parábola del rico y Lázaro

19 Jesús dijo: «Había un hombre rico que se vestía con gran esplendor en púrpura y lino de la más alta calidad y vivía rodeado de lujos. 20 Tirado a la puerta de su casa había un hombre pobre llamado Lázaro, quien estaba cubierto de llagas. 21 Mientras Lázaro estaba tendido, deseando comer las sobras de la mesa del hombre rico, los perros venían y le lamían las llagas abiertas.

22 »Con el tiempo, el hombre pobre murió, y los ángeles lo llevaron a estar con Abraham.t El hombre rico también murió y fue enterrado, 23 y su alma fue al lugar de los muertos.t Allí, en medio del tormento, vio a Abraham a lo lejos con Lázaro junto a él.

24 »El hombre rico gritó: “¡Padre Abraham, ten piedad! Envíame a Lázaro para que moje la punta de su dedo en agua y refresque mi lengua. Estoy en angustia en estas llamas”.

25 »Abraham le dijo: “Hijo, recuerda que tuviste todo lo que quisiste durante tu vida, y Lázaro no tuvo nada. Ahora él está aquí recibiendo consuelo y tú estás en angustia. 26 Además, hay un gran abismo que nos separa. Ninguno de nosotros puede cruzar hasta allí, y ninguno de ustedes puede cruzar hasta aquí”.

27 »Entonces el hombre rico dijo: “Por favor, padre Abraham, al menos envíalo a la casa de mi padre. 28 Tengo cinco hermanos y quiero advertirles que no terminen en este lugar de tormento”.

29 »Abraham le dijo: “Moisés y los profetas ya les advirtieron. Tus hermanos pueden leer lo que ellos escribieron”.

30 »El hombre rico respondió: “¡No, padre Abraham! Pero si se les envía a alguien de los muertos ellos se arrepentirán de sus pecados y volverán a Dios”.

31 »Pero Abraham le dijo: “Si no escuchan a Moisés y a los profetas, no escucharán por más que alguno se levantara de los muertos”».

LUKE 16

A Dishonest Manager

1 Jesus said to his disciples:
A rich man once had a manager to take care of his business. But he was told that his manager was wasting money.

2 So the rich man called him in and said, “What is this I hear about you? Tell me what you have done! You are no longer going to work for me.”
3 The manager said to himself, “What shall I do now that my master is going to fire me? I can't dig ditches, and I'm ashamed to beg.

4 I know what I'll do, so that people will welcome me into their homes after I've lost my job.”

5 Then one by one he called in the people who were in debt to his master. He asked the first one, “How much do you owe my master?”

6 “A hundred barrels of olive oil,” the man answered.
So the manager said, “Take your bill and sit down and quickly write ‘50.’ ”

7 The manager asked someone else who was in debt to his master, “How much do you owe?”
“A thousand sackst of wheat,” the man replied.
The manager said, “Take your bill and write ‘800.’ ”

8 The master praised his dishonest manager for looking out for himself so well. That's how it is! The people of this world look out for themselves better than the people who belong to the light.
9  t My disciples, I tell you to use wicked wealth to make friends for yourselves. Then when it is gone, you will be welcomed into an eternal home. 10 Anyone who can be trusted in little matters can also be trusted in important matters. But anyone who is dishonest in little matters will be dishonest in important matters. 11 If you cannot be trusted with this wicked wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? 12 And if you cannot be trusted with what belongs to someone else, who will give you something that will be your own?

13 t You cannot be the slave of two masters. You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than to the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Some Sayings of Jesus

(Matthew 11.12,13; 5.31,32; Mark 10.11,12)

15 But Jesus told them:
You are always making yourselves look good, but God sees what is in your heart. The things that most people think are important are worthless as far as God is concerned.
16  t Until the time of John the Baptist, people had to obey the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets.t But since God's kingdom has been preached, everyone is trying hard to get in.

17 t Heaven and earth will disappear before the smallest letter of the Law does.

18  t It is a terrible sint for a man to divorce his wife and marry another woman. It is also a terrible sin for a man to marry a divorced woman.

Lazarus and the Rich Man

22 t The poor man died, and angels took him to the place of honor next to Abraham.t
The rich man also died and was buried. 23 t He went to hellt and was suffering terribly. When he looked up and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side,

24 he said to Abraham, “Have pity on me! Send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and touch my tongue. I'm suffering terribly in this fire.”
25 Abraham answered, “My friend, remember that while you lived, you had everything good, and Lazarus had everything bad. Now he is happy, and you are in pain.

26 And besides, there is a deep ditch between us, and no one from either side can cross over.”
27 But the rich man said, “Abraham, then please send Lazarus to my father's home.

28 Let him warn my five brothers, so they won't come to this horrible place.”

29 Abraham answered, “Your brothers can read what Moses and the prophetst wrote. They should pay attention to that.”

30 Then the rich man said, “No, that's not enough! If only someone from the dead would go to them, they would listen and turn to God.”
31 So Abraham said, “If they won't pay attention to Moses and the prophets, they won't listen even to someone who comes back from the dead.”
