LUCAS 16

El empleado astuto

1 Jesús también les dijo a sus discípulos:

«Había una vez un hombre muy rico, que tenía un empleado encargado de cuidar todas sus riquezas; pero llegó a saber que ese empleado malgastaba su dinero.

2 Entonces lo llamó y le dijo: “¿Qué es todo esto que me han dicho de ti? Preséntame un informe de todo mi dinero y posesiones, porque ya no vas a trabajar más para mí.”
3 »El empleado pensó: “Ahora que mi patrón me despide del trabajo, ¿qué voy a hacer? No soy fuerte para hacer zanjas, y me da vergüenza pedir limosna.

4 ¡Ya sé lo que haré, para que algunos me reciban en sus casas cuando me despidan!”
5 »El empleado llamó a cada uno de los que le debían algo a su patrón, y al primero le preguntó: “¿Cuánto le debes a mi patrón?”6 Aquel hombre contestó: “Le debo cien barriles de aceite de oliva.” El empleado le dijo: “Aquí está tu cuenta. Rápido, siéntate y, en lugar de cien barriles, anota cincuenta.”

7 Luego le preguntó a otro: “Y tú, ¿cuánto le debes a mi patrón?” Ese hombre respondió: “Diez mil kilos de trigo.” El empleado le dijo: “Toma tu cuenta y anota ocho mil kilos.”

8 »Al saber esto, el patrón felicitó al empleado deshonesto por ser tan astuto. Y es que, para atender sus propios negocios, la gente de este mundo es más astuta que los hijos de Dios.

9 »Por eso a ustedes, que son mis discípulos, yo les aconsejo que usen el dinero obtenido en forma deshonesta para ganar amigos. Así, cuando se les acabe ese dinero, Dios los recibirá en el cielo.
10 »Al que cuida bien lo que vale poco, también se le puede confiar lo que vale mucho. Y el que es deshonesto con lo de poco valor, también lo será con lo de mucho valor.11 Si a ustedes no se les puede confiar algo que vale tan poco, como el dinero ganado deshonestamente, ¿quién les confiará lo que sí es valioso?

12 Y si no se les puede confiar lo que es de otra persona, ¿quién les dará lo que será de ustedes?

13 »Nadie puede ser esclavo de dos amos, porque preferirá a uno más que a otro. Y si obedece a uno, desobedecerá al otro. No se puede servir al mismo tiempo a Dios y al dinero.»

Otras enseñanzas de Jesús

14 A los fariseos les gustaba mucho el dinero. Por eso, cuando escucharon todo lo que Jesús decía, se burlaron de él.

15 Entonces Jesús les dijo:

«Ustedes tratan de aparecer delante de los demás como personas muy honestas, pero Dios los conoce muy bien. Lo que la mayoría de la gente considera de mucho valor, para Dios no vale nada.

16 »Hasta la época de Juan el Bautista, la gente ha tenido que obedecer la Ley y la enseñanza de los Profetas. Desde entonces, se anuncian las buenas noticias del reino de Dios, y todos luchan por entrar en él.

17 »Sin embargo, es más fácil que desaparezcan el cielo y la tierra, a que deje de cumplirse el detalle más insignificante de la Ley.

18 »Si un hombre se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra mujer, comete pecado, porque es infiel en el matrimonio. Si un hombre se casa con una mujer divorciada, también comete pecado.»
Jesús también dijo:

Lázaro y el hombre rico

19 «Había una vez un hombre muy rico, que vestía ropas muy lujosas. Hacía fiestas todos los días, y servía las comidas más caras.20 En cambio, junto a la entrada de su casa había un hombre pobre, llamado Lázaro, que tenía la piel llena de llagas. Unas personas lo sentaban siempre allí,

21 y los perros venían a lamerle las llagas. Este pobre hombre tenía tanta hambre que deseaba comer, por lo menos, las sobras que caían de la mesa del hombre rico.
22 »Un día, el hombre pobre murió y los ángeles lo pusieron en el sitio de honor, junto a su antepasado Abraham. Después murió también el hombre rico, y lo enterraron.

23 Cuando ya estaba en el infierno, donde sufría muchísimo, el que había sido rico vio a lo lejos a Abraham, y a Lázaro sentado junto a él.
24 »Entonces llamó a Abraham y le dijo: “¡Abraham, antepasado mío, compadécete de mí! Ordénale a Lázaro que moje la punta de su dedo en agua, y me refresque la lengua. Sufro muchísimo con este fuego.”25 Pero Abraham le respondió: “Tú eres mi descendiente, pero recuerda que, cuando ustedes vivían, a ti te iba muy bien y a Lázaro le iba muy mal. Ahora, él es feliz aquí, mientras que a ti te toca sufrir.26 Además, a ustedes y a nosotros nos separa un gran abismo, y nadie puede pasar de un lado a otro.”27 El hombre rico dijo: “Abraham, te ruego entonces que mandes a Lázaro a la casa de mi familia.28 Que avise a mis cinco hermanos que, si no dejan de hacer lo malo, vendrán a este horrible lugar.”29 Pero Abraham le contestó: “Tus hermanos tienen la Biblia. ¿Por qué no la leen? ¿Por qué no la obedecen?”30 El hombre rico respondió: “Abraham, querido antepasado, ¡eso no basta! Pero si alguno de los muertos va y habla con ellos, te aseguro que se volverán a Dios.”

31 Abraham le dijo: “Si no hacen caso de lo que dice la Biblia, tampoco le harán caso a un muerto que vuelva a vivir.”»

Luke 16

1 And he said also unto the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he was wasting his goods.2 And he called him, and said unto him, What is this that I hear of thee? render the account of thy stewardship; for thou canst be no longer steward.3 And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing that my lord taketh away the stewardship from me? I have not strength to dig; to beg I am ashamed.4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.5 And calling to him each one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?6 And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bond, and sit down quickly and write fifty.7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. He saith unto him, Take thy bond, and write fourscore.8 And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light.9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when it shall fail, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.10 He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much.11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.14 And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him.15 And he said unto them, Ye are they that justify yourselves in the sight of men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.16 The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and every man entereth violently into it.17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall.18 Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth one that is put away from a husband committeth adultery.19 Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, faring sumptuously every day:20 and a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores,21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table; yea, even the dogs come and licked his sores.22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried.23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things: but now here he is comforted and thou art in anguish.26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that they that would pass from hence to you may not be able, and that none may cross over from thence to us.27 And he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house;28 for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.29 But Abraham saith, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one go to them from the dead, they will repent.31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if one rise from the dead.
