Lucas 16

Parábola del mayordomo infiel

1 Jesús también les dijo a sus discípulos: «Había un hombre rico, que tenía un mayordomo, el cual fue acusado de malgastar los bienes de su amo.2 Ese hombre llamó al mayordomo, y le dijo: “¿Qué es esto que me dicen de ti? Ríndeme cuentas de tu mayordomía, porque no puedes seguir siendo mi mayordomo.”3 Entonces el mayordomo se puso a pensar: “¿Qué voy a hacer si mi amo me quita la mayordomía? ¿Cavar la tierra? ¡No soy capaz! ¿Pedir limosna? ¡Qué vergüenza!4 ¡Ya sé lo que haré! Así, cuando se me quite la mayordomía, seré bien recibido en cualquier casa.”5 Llamó entonces a cada uno de los deudores de su amo, y al primero le dijo: “¿Cuánto le debes a mi amo?”6 Aquél respondió: “Cien barriles de aceite.” El mayordomo le dijo: “Toma tu cuenta y, enseguida, siéntate y anota cincuenta.”7 A otro le dijo: “Y tú, ¿cuánto debes?” Y aquél respondió: “Cien sacos de trigo.” El mayordomo le dijo: “Toma tu cuenta, y anota ochenta.”8 Y el amo elogió al mal mayordomo por haber actuado con tanta sagacidad, pues en el trato con sus semejantes los hijos de este mundo son más sagaces que los hijos de la luz.

9 »Por tanto, les digo: Háganse de amigos por medio de las riquezas injustas, para que cuando éstas falten, sean ustedes recibidos en las mansiones eternas.

10 »El que es confiable en lo poco, también lo es en lo mucho; y el que no es confiable en lo poco, tampoco lo es en lo mucho.11 Porque si en el manejo de las riquezas injustas ustedes no son confiables, ¿quién podrá confiarles lo verdadero?12 Y si con lo ajeno no resultan confiables, ¿quién les dará lo que les pertenece?13 Ningún siervo puede servir a dos señores, porque a uno lo odiará y al otro lo amará. O bien, estimará a uno y menospreciará al otro. Así que ustedes no pueden servir a Diost y a las riquezas.»t

14 Los fariseos, que eran avaros, también escuchaban estas cosas, y se burlaban de él.15 Entonces Jesús les dijo: «Ustedes se justifican a ustedes mismos delante de la gente, pero Dios conoce su corazón; pues lo que la gente considera sublime, ante Dios resulta repugnante.

La ley y el reino de Dios

16 »La ley y los profetas llegan hasta Juan. Desde entonces se anuncian las buenas noticias del reino de Dios, y todos se esfuerzan por entrar en él.t17 Pero más fácilmente pasarán el cielo y la tierra, a que deje de cumplirse una sola letra de la ley.t

Jesús enseña sobre el divorcio

18 »Todo el que se divorcia de su mujer, y se casa con otra, comete adulterio; y el que se casa con la divorciada, también comete adulterio.t

El rico y Lázaro

19 »Había un hombre rico, que se vestía de púrpura y de lino fino, y cada día celebraba espléndidos banquetes.20 Había también un mendigo llamado Lázaro, que lleno de llagas pasaba el tiempo echado a la puerta de aquél,21 ansioso de saciarse con las migajas que caían de la mesa del rico, y hasta los perros venían y le lamían las llagas.22 Llegó el día en que el mendigo murió, y los ángeles se lo llevaron al lado de Abrahán. Después murió también el rico, y fue sepultado.23 Cuando el rico estaba en el Hades, en medio de tormentos, alzó sus ojos y, a lo lejos, vio a Abrahán, y a Lázaro junto a él.24 Entonces gritó: “Padre Abrahán, ¡ten compasión de mí! ¡Envía a Lázaro para que moje la punta de su dedo en agua, y me refresque la lengua, porque estas llamas me atormentan!”25 Pero Abrahán le dijo: “Hijo mío, acuérdate de que, mientras vivías, tú recibiste tus bienes y Lázaro recibió sus males. Pero ahora, aquí él recibe consuelo y tú recibes tormentos.26 Pero, además, hay un gran abismo entre nosotros y ustedes, de manera que los que quieran pasar de aquí a donde están ustedes, no pueden hacerlo; ni tampoco pueden pasar de allá hacia acá.”27 Aquél respondió: “Padre, entonces te ruego que envíes a Lázaro a la casa de mi padre,28 donde tengo cinco hermanos, para que les advierta, a fin de que no vengan ellos también a este lugar de tormento.”29 Pero Abrahán le respondió: “Pero ellos tienen a Moisés y a los profetas. ¡Que los escuchen!”30 Y aquél contestó: “No lo harán, padre Abrahán. Pero si alguien de entre los muertos va a ellos, sí se arrepentirán.”31 Abrahán le dijo: “Si no han escuchado a Moisés y a los profetas, tampoco se van a convencer si alguien se levanta de entre los muertos.”»

LUKE 16

A Dishonest Manager

1 Jesus said to his disciples:
A rich man once had a manager to take care of his business. But he was told that his manager was wasting money.

2 So the rich man called him in and said, “What is this I hear about you? Tell me what you have done! You are no longer going to work for me.”
3 The manager said to himself, “What shall I do now that my master is going to fire me? I can't dig ditches, and I'm ashamed to beg.

4 I know what I'll do, so that people will welcome me into their homes after I've lost my job.”

5 Then one by one he called in the people who were in debt to his master. He asked the first one, “How much do you owe my master?”

6 “A hundred barrels of olive oil,” the man answered.
So the manager said, “Take your bill and sit down and quickly write ‘50.’ ”

7 The manager asked someone else who was in debt to his master, “How much do you owe?”
“A thousand sackst of wheat,” the man replied.
The manager said, “Take your bill and write ‘800.’ ”

8 The master praised his dishonest manager for looking out for himself so well. That's how it is! The people of this world look out for themselves better than the people who belong to the light.
9  t My disciples, I tell you to use wicked wealth to make friends for yourselves. Then when it is gone, you will be welcomed into an eternal home. 10 Anyone who can be trusted in little matters can also be trusted in important matters. But anyone who is dishonest in little matters will be dishonest in important matters. 11 If you cannot be trusted with this wicked wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? 12 And if you cannot be trusted with what belongs to someone else, who will give you something that will be your own?

13 t You cannot be the slave of two masters. You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than to the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Some Sayings of Jesus

15 But Jesus told them:
You are always making yourselves look good, but God sees what is in your heart. The things that most people think are important are worthless as far as God is concerned.
16  t Until the time of John the Baptist, people had to obey the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets.t But since God's kingdom has been preached, everyone is trying hard to get in.

17 t Heaven and earth will disappear before the smallest letter of the Law does.

18  t It is a terrible sint for a man to divorce his wife and marry another woman. It is also a terrible sin for a man to marry a divorced woman.

Lazarus and the Rich Man

22 t The poor man died, and angels took him to the place of honor next to Abraham.t
The rich man also died and was buried. 23 t He went to hellt and was suffering terribly. When he looked up and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side,

24 he said to Abraham, “Have pity on me! Send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and touch my tongue. I'm suffering terribly in this fire.”
25 Abraham answered, “My friend, remember that while you lived, you had everything good, and Lazarus had everything bad. Now he is happy, and you are in pain.

26 And besides, there is a deep ditch between us, and no one from either side can cross over.”
27 But the rich man said, “Abraham, then please send Lazarus to my father's home.

28 Let him warn my five brothers, so they won't come to this horrible place.”

29 Abraham answered, “Your brothers can read what Moses and the prophetst wrote. They should pay attention to that.”

30 Then the rich man said, “No, that's not enough! If only someone from the dead would go to them, they would listen and turn to God.”
31 So Abraham said, “If they won't pay attention to Moses and the prophets, they won't listen even to someone who comes back from the dead.”
