مَثَل بیوه‌زن سمج

1 عیسی برای شاگردان مَثَلی آورد تا نشان دهد که باید همیشه دعا کنند و هرگز دلسرد نشوند.2 فرمود: «در شهری قاضی‌ای بود که نه از خدا باکی داشت، نه به خلق خدا توجهی.3 در همان شهر بیوه‌زنی بود که پیوسته نزدش می‌آمد و از او می‌خواست دادش از دشمن بستاند.4 قاضی چندگاهی به او اعتنا نکرد. امّا سرانجام با خود گفت: ”هر چند از خدا باکی ندارم و به خلق خدا نیز بی‌توجهم،5 امّا چون این بیوه‌زن مدام زحمتم می‌دهد، دادش می‌ستانم، مبادا پیوسته بیاید و مرا به‌ستوه آورد!“‌»6 آنگاه خداوند فرمود: «شنیدید این قاضی بی‌انصاف چه گفت؟7 حال، آیا خدا به دادِ برگزیدگان خود که روز و شب به درگاه او فریاد برمی‌آورند، نخواهد رسید؟ آیا این کار را همچنان به تأخیر خواهد افکند؟8 به شما می‌گویم که بزودی به داد ایشان خواهد رسید. امّا هنگامی که پسر انسان آید، آیا ایمان بر زمین خواهد یافت؟»

مَثَل فَریسی و خراجگیر

9 آنگاه برای برخی که از پارسایی خویش مطمئن بودند و بر دیگران به دیدۀ تحقیر می‌نگریستند، این مَثَل را آورد:10 «دو تن برای عبادت به معبد رفتند، یکی فَریسی، دیگری خراجگیر.11 فَریسی ایستاد و با خود چنین دعا کرد: ”خدایا، تو را شکر می‌گویم که همچون دیگر مردمان دزد و بدکاره و زناکار نیستم، و نه مانند این خراجگیرم.12 دو بار در هفته روزه می‌گیرم و از هر چه به‌دست می‌آورم، ده‌یک می‌دهم.“13 امّا آن خراجگیر دور ایستاد و نخواست حتی چشمان خود را به‌سوی آسمان بلند کند، بلکه بر سینۀ خود می‌کوفت و می‌گفت: ”خدایا، بر منِ گناهکار رحم کن.“14 به شما می‌گویم که این مرد، و نه آن دیگر، پارسا شمرده شده به خانه رفت. زیرا هر که خود را برافرازد، خوار خواهد شد، و هر که خود را خوار سازد، سرافراز خواهد گردید.»

عیسی و کودکان

15 مردم حتی نوزادان را نزد عیسی می‌آوردند تا بر آنها دست بگذارد. شاگردان چون این را دیدند، مردم را سرزنش کردند.16 امّا عیسی آنان را نزد خود فراخواند و گفت: «بگذارید کودکان نزد من آیند؛ ایشان را بازمدارید، زیرا پادشاهی خدا از آنِ چنین کسان است.17 آمین، به شما می‌گویم، هر که پادشاهی خدا را همچون کودکی نپذیرد، هرگز بدان راه نخواهد یافت.»

رئیس ثروتمند

18 یکی از رئیسان از او پرسید: «استاد نیکو، چه کنم تا وارث حیات جاویدان شوم؟»19 عیسی پاسخ داد: «چرا مرا نیکو می‌خوانی؟ هیچ‌کس نیکو نیست جز خدا فقط.20 احکام را می‌دانی: زنا مکن، قتل مکن، دزدی مکن، شهادت دروغ مده، پدر و مادر خود را گرامی‌دار.»21 گفت: «همۀ اینها را از کودکی به‌جا آورده‌ام.»22 عیسی چون این را شنید، گفت: «هنوز یک چیز کم داری؛ آنچه داری بفروش و بهایش را میان تنگدستان تقسیم کن، که در آسمان گنج خواهی داشت. آنگاه بیا و از من پیروی کن.»23 آن مرد چون این را شنید، اندوهگین شد، زیرا ثروت بسیار داشت.24 عیسی به او نگاه کرد و گفت: «چه دشوار است راه یافتن ثروتمندان به پادشاهی خدا!25 گذشتن شتر از سوراخ سوزن آسانتر است از راهیابی شخص ثروتمند به پادشاهی خدا.»26 کسانی که این را شنیدند، پرسیدند: «پس چه کسی می‌تواند نجات یابد؟»27 فرمود: «آنچه برای انسان ناممکن است، برای خدا ممکن است.»28 پِطرُس گفت: «ما که خانه و کاشانۀ خود را ترک گفتیم تا از تو پیروی کنیم!»29 عیسی به ایشان گفت: «آمین، به شما می‌گویم، کسی نیست که خانه یا زن یا برادران یا والدین یا فرزندان را به‌خاطر پادشاهی خدا ترک کند،30 و در همین عصر چند برابر به‌دست نیاورد، و در عصر آینده نیز از حیات جاویدان بهره‌مند نگردد.»

پیشگویی مجدد عیسی دربارۀ مرگ و رستاخیز خود

31 آنگاه آن دوازده تن را به کناری کشید و به ایشان گفت: «اینک به اورشلیم می‌رویم. در آنجا هر آنچه انبیا دربارۀ پسر انسان نوشته‌اند، به انجام خواهد رسید.32 زیرا او را به غیریهودیان خواهند سپرد. آنها او را استهزا و توهین خواهند کرد و آب دهان بر او انداخته، تازیانه‌اش خواهند زد و خواهند کشت.33 امّا در روز سوّم بر خواهد خاست.»34 شاگردان هیچ‌یک از اینها را درک نکردند. معنی سخن او از آنان پنهان بود و درنیافتند دربارۀ چه سخن می‌گوید.

شفای فقیر نابینا

35 چون نزدیک اَریحا رسید، مردی نابینا بر کنار راه نشسته بود و گدایی می‌کرد.36 چون صدای جمعیتی را که از آنجا می‌گذشت شنید، پرسید: «چه خبر است؟»37 گفتند: «عیسای ناصری در گذر است.»38 او فریاد برکشید: «ای عیسی، پسر داوود، بر من ترحم کن!»39 کسانی که پیشاپیش جمعیت می‌رفتند، عتابش کردند و خواستند خاموش باشد. امّا او بیشتر فریاد برآورد که: «ای پسر داوود، بر من ترحم کن!»40 آنگاه عیسی بازایستاد و امر فرمود آن مرد را نزد او بیاورند. چون نزدیک آمد، عیسی از او پرسید:41 «چه می‌خواهی برایت بکنم؟» گفت: «سرور من، می‌خواهم بینا شوم.»42 عیسی به او گفت: «بینا شو! ایمانت تو را شفا داده است.»43 کور همان‌دم بینایی خود را بازیافت و خدا را سپاس‌گویان، از پی عیسی شتافت. مردم چون این را دیدند، همگی خدا را سپاس گفتند.

LUKE 18

A Widow and a Judge

1 Jesus told his disciples a story about how they should keep on praying and never give up:
2 In a town there was once a judge who didn't fear God or care about people.

3 In that same town there was a widow who kept going to the judge and saying, “Make sure that I get fair treatment in court.”
4 For a while the judge refused to do anything. Finally, he said to himself, “Even though I don't fear God or care about people,

5 I will help this widow because she keeps on bothering me. If I don't help her, she will wear me out.”

6 The Lord said:
Think about what that crooked judge said. 7 t Won't God protect his chosen ones who pray to him day and night? Won't he be concerned for them?

8 He will surely hurry and help them. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find on this earth anyone with faith?

A Pharisee //and a Tax Collector

9 Jesus told a story to some people who thought they were better than others and who looked down on everyone else:
10 Two men went into the temple to pray.t One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.t 11 The Pharisee stood over by himself and prayed, t “God, I thank you that I am not greedy, dishonest, and unfaithful in marriage like other people. And I am really glad that I am not like that tax collector over there.

12 I go without eatingt for two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all I earn.”

13  t The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, “God, have pity on me! I am such a sinner.”

14  t Then Jesus said, “When the two men went home, it was the tax collector and not the Pharisee who was pleasing to God. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.”

Jesus Blesses Little Children

(Matthew 19.13-15; Mark 10.13-16)

17 You will never get into God's kingdom unless you enter it like a child!”

A Rich and Important Man

(Matthew 19.16-30; Mark 10.17-31)

18 An important man asked Jesus, “Good Teacher, what must I do to have eternal life?”
19 Jesus said, “Why do you call me good? Only God is good.

20 t You know the commandments: ‘Be faithful in marriage. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Respect your father and mother.’ ”

21 He told Jesus, “I have obeyed all these commandments since I was a young man.”
22 When Jesus heard this, he said, “There is one thing you still need to do. Go and sell everything you own! Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come and be my follower.”

23 When the man heard this, he was sad, because he was very rich.
24 Jesus saw how sad the man was. So he said, “It's terribly hard for rich people to get into God's kingdom!

25 In fact, it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God's kingdom.”

26 When the crowd heard this, they asked, “How can anyone ever be saved?”

27 Jesus replied, “There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything.”

28 Peter said, “Remember, we left everything to be your followers!”
29 Jesus answered, “You can be sure that anyone who gives up home or wife or brothers or family or children because of God's kingdom

30 will be given much more in this life. And in the future world they will have eternal life.”

Jesus Again Tells about //His Death

(Matthew 20.17-19; Mark 10.32-34)

31 Jesus took the twelve apostles aside and said:
We are now on our way to Jerusalem. Everything that the prophets wrote about the Son of Man will happen there. 32 He will be handed over to foreigners, t who will make fun of him, mistreat him, and spit on him.

33 They will beat him and kill him, but three days later he will rise to life.

34 The apostles did not understand what Jesus was talking about. They could not understand, because the meaning of what he said was hidden from them.

Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar

(Matthew 20.29-34; Mark 10.46-52)

39 The people who were going along with Jesus told the man to be quiet. But he shouted even louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!”
40 Jesus stopped and told some people to bring the blind man over to him. When the blind man was getting near, Jesus asked,

41 “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see!” he answered.
42 Jesus replied, “Look and you will see! Your eyes are healed because of your faith.” 43 At once the man could see, and he went with Jesus and started thanking God. When the crowds saw what happened, they praised God.
