Lucas 18

La viuda y el juez

1 Jesús les contó una historia a sus discípulos , para enseñarles que debían orar siempre y sin desanimarse.

2 Les dijo:

«En una ciudad había un juez que no tenía miedo ni de Dios ni de la gente.3 Allí también vivía una viuda, que siempre lo buscaba y le decía: “Por favor, haga usted todo lo posible para que se me haga justicia en la corte.”

4-5 Al principio, el juez no quería atender a la viuda. Pero luego pensó: “Esta viuda molesta mucho. Aunque no le tengo miedo a Dios, ni me importa la gente, la voy a ayudar. Si no lo hago, nunca dejará de molestarme.”»

6 Jesús agregó:

«Fíjense en lo que dijo ese mal juez.7 ¿Creen ustedes que Dios no defenderá a las personas que él eligió, y que día y noche le piden ayuda? ¿Creen que tardará él en responderles?

8 ¡Claro que no, sino que les responderá de inmediato! Pero cuando yo, el Hijo del hombre , regrese a este mundo, ¿acaso encontraré gente que confíe en Dios?»

El hombre orgulloso y el hombre humilde

9 Una vez, Jesús estuvo hablando con unas personas, de ésas que se creen muy buenas y que siempre están despreciando a los demás. A éstas, Jesús les puso este ejemplo:

10 «Dos hombres fueron al templo a orar. Uno de ellos era fariseo y el otro era cobrador de impuestos .
11 »Puesto de pie, el fariseo oraba así: “Dios, te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres. Ellos son ladrones y malvados, y engañan a sus esposas con otras mujeres. ¡Tampoco soy como ese cobrador de impuestos!

12 Yo ayuno dos veces por semana y te doy la décima parte de todo lo que gano.”

13 »El cobrador de impuestos, en cambio, se quedó un poco más atrás. Ni siquiera se atrevía a levantar la mirada hacia el cielo, sino que se daba golpes en el pecho y decía: “¡Dios, ten compasión de mí, y perdóname por todo lo malo que he hecho!”»

14 Cuando terminó de contar esto, Jesús les dijo a aquellos hombres: «Les aseguro que, cuando el cobrador de impuestos regresó a su casa, Dios ya lo había perdonado; pero al fariseo no. Porque los que se creen más importantes que los demás, son los menos valiosos para Dios. En cambio, los más importantes para Dios son los humildes.»

Jesús bendice a los niños

15 Algunas madres llevaron a sus niños pequeños para que Jesús pusiera su mano sobre sus cabezas y los bendijera . Pero los discípulos comenzaron a reprenderlas para que no los trajeran.16 Entonces Jesús llamó a los niños, y les dijo a sus discípulos: «Dejen que los niños se acerquen a mí. No se lo impidan, porque el reino de Dios es de los que son como ellos.

17 Les aseguro que la persona que no confía en Dios como lo hace un niño, no podrá entrar en el reino de Dios.»

El hombre rico

18 Un líder de los judíos fue a ver a Jesús y le preguntó:

—Tú, que eres un maestro bueno, dime, ¿qué cosa debo hacer para tener vida eterna?

19 Jesús le contestó:

—¿Por qué dices que soy bueno? Sólo Dios es bueno.

20 Tú conoces bien los mandamientos : No seas infiel en el matrimonio, no mates, no robes, no mientas para hacerle daño a otra persona, obedece y cuida a tu padre y a tu madre.

21 El líder le dijo:

—¡He obedecido todos esos mandamientos desde que era un niño!

22 Jesús le respondió:

—Sólo te falta hacer una cosa: Vende todo lo que tienes, y dales ese dinero a los pobres. Así, Dios te dará un gran premio en el cielo. Luego ven y conviértete en uno de mis seguidores.

23 Cuando el líder oyó esto, se puso muy triste, porque era muy rico.

24 Jesús lo miró y dijo:

—¡Qué difícil es que una persona rica entre en el reino de Dios !

25 En realidad, es más fácil para un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja, que para una persona rica entrar en el reino de Dios.

26 La gente que estaba allí y que oyó a Jesús, preguntó:

—Entonces, ¿quién podrá salvarse ?

27 Jesús les respondió:

—Para la gente eso es imposible, pero todo es posible para Dios.

28 Pedro le dijo:

—Recuerda que nosotros dejamos todo lo que teníamos, y te hemos seguido.

29 Jesús les respondió:

—Les aseguro que si alguno ha dejado su casa, su esposa, sus hermanos, sus padres, o sus hijos, por ser obediente al reino de Dios,

30 sin duda recibirá aquí mucho más de lo que dejó. Además, cuando muera, vivirá con Dios para siempre.

Jesús habla otra vez de su muerte

31 Jesús se reunió a solas con los doce discípulos y les dijo: «Ahora iniciamos nuestro viaje hacia Jerusalén. Allí pasará todo lo que anunciaron los profetas acerca de mí, el Hijo del hombre .32 Porque en Jerusalén unos hombres me entregarán a las autoridades de Roma. Los romanos se burlarán de mí, me insultarán y me escupirán en la cara.

33 Luego me golpearán y me matarán, pero después de tres días, resucitaré .»

34 Los discípulos no entendieron de qué hablaba Jesús. Era algo que ellos no podían comprender.

Jesús sana a un ciego

35 Jesús iba llegando a la ciudad de Jericó. Junto al camino estaba un ciego pidiendo limosna.

36 Cuando el ciego oyó el ruido de la gente que pasaba, preguntó:

—¿Qué sucede?

37 La gente le explicó:

—Ahí viene Jesús, el del pueblo de Nazaret.

38 Entonces el ciego se puso a gritar: «¡Jesús, tú que eres el Mesías , ten compasión de mí y ayúdame!»

39 Los que iban delante reprendían al ciego para que se callara, pero él gritó con más fuerza: «¡Mesías, ten compasión de mí y ayúdame!»

40 Jesús se detuvo y ordenó que trajeran al ciego. Cuando el ciego estuvo cerca, Jesús le preguntó:

41 —¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?

El ciego le respondió:

—Señor, ¡quiero volver a ver!

42 Jesús le dijo:

—¡Muy bien, ya puedes ver! Te has sanado porque confiaste en mí.

43 En ese mismo instante, el ciego pudo ver, y siguió a Jesús, alabando a Dios. Toda la gente que vio esto, también alababa a Dios.

LUKE 18

A Widow and a Judge

1 Jesus told his disciples a story about how they should keep on praying and never give up:
2 In a town there was once a judge who didn't fear God or care about people.

3 In that same town there was a widow who kept going to the judge and saying, “Make sure that I get fair treatment in court.”
4 For a while the judge refused to do anything. Finally, he said to himself, “Even though I don't fear God or care about people,

5 I will help this widow because she keeps on bothering me. If I don't help her, she will wear me out.”

6 The Lord said:
Think about what that crooked judge said. 7 t Won't God protect his chosen ones who pray to him day and night? Won't he be concerned for them?

8 He will surely hurry and help them. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find on this earth anyone with faith?

A Pharisee //and a Tax Collector

9 Jesus told a story to some people who thought they were better than others and who looked down on everyone else:
10 Two men went into the temple to pray.t One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.t 11 The Pharisee stood over by himself and prayed, t “God, I thank you that I am not greedy, dishonest, and unfaithful in marriage like other people. And I am really glad that I am not like that tax collector over there.

12 I go without eatingt for two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all I earn.”

13  t The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, “God, have pity on me! I am such a sinner.”

14  t Then Jesus said, “When the two men went home, it was the tax collector and not the Pharisee who was pleasing to God. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.”

Jesus Blesses Little Children

(Matthew 19.13-15; Mark 10.13-16)

17 You will never get into God's kingdom unless you enter it like a child!”

A Rich and Important Man

(Matthew 19.16-30; Mark 10.17-31)

18 An important man asked Jesus, “Good Teacher, what must I do to have eternal life?”
19 Jesus said, “Why do you call me good? Only God is good.

20 t You know the commandments: ‘Be faithful in marriage. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Respect your father and mother.’ ”

21 He told Jesus, “I have obeyed all these commandments since I was a young man.”
22 When Jesus heard this, he said, “There is one thing you still need to do. Go and sell everything you own! Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come and be my follower.”

23 When the man heard this, he was sad, because he was very rich.
24 Jesus saw how sad the man was. So he said, “It's terribly hard for rich people to get into God's kingdom!

25 In fact, it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God's kingdom.”

26 When the crowd heard this, they asked, “How can anyone ever be saved?”

27 Jesus replied, “There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything.”

28 Peter said, “Remember, we left everything to be your followers!”
29 Jesus answered, “You can be sure that anyone who gives up home or wife or brothers or family or children because of God's kingdom

30 will be given much more in this life. And in the future world they will have eternal life.”

Jesus Again Tells about //His Death

(Matthew 20.17-19; Mark 10.32-34)

31 Jesus took the twelve apostles aside and said:
We are now on our way to Jerusalem. Everything that the prophets wrote about the Son of Man will happen there. 32 He will be handed over to foreigners, t who will make fun of him, mistreat him, and spit on him.

33 They will beat him and kill him, but three days later he will rise to life.

34 The apostles did not understand what Jesus was talking about. They could not understand, because the meaning of what he said was hidden from them.

Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar

(Matthew 20.29-34; Mark 10.46-52)

39 The people who were going along with Jesus told the man to be quiet. But he shouted even louder, “Son of David, have pity on me!”
40 Jesus stopped and told some people to bring the blind man over to him. When the blind man was getting near, Jesus asked,

41 “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see!” he answered.
42 Jesus replied, “Look and you will see! Your eyes are healed because of your faith.” 43 At once the man could see, and he went with Jesus and started thanking God. When the crowds saw what happened, they praised God.
