Lucas 19

Jesús y Zaqueo

1  Jesús entró en Jericó y comenzó a pasar por la ciudad. 2 Había allí un hombre llamado Zaqueo. Era jefe de los cobradores de impuestos de la región y se había hecho muy rico. 3 Zaqueo trató de mirar a Jesús pero era de poca estatura y no podía ver por encima de la multitud. 4 Así que se adelantó corriendo y se subió a una higuera sicómoro que estaba junto al camino, porque Jesús iba a pasar por allí.

5 Cuando Jesús pasó, miró a Zaqueo y lo llamó por su nombre: «¡Zaqueo! —le dijo—, ¡baja enseguida! Debo hospedarme hoy en tu casa».

6 Zaqueo bajó rápidamente y, lleno de entusiasmo y alegría, llevó a Jesús a su casa; 7 pero la gente estaba disgustada, y murmuraba: «Fue a hospedarse en la casa de un pecador de mala fama».

8 Mientras tanto, Zaqueo se puso de pie delante del Señor y dijo:
—Señor, daré la mitad de mi riqueza a los pobres y, si estafé a alguien con sus impuestos, le devolveré cuatro veces más.

9 Jesús respondió:
—La salvación ha venido hoy a esta casa, porque este hombre ha demostrado ser un verdadero hijo de Abraham. 10 Pues el Hijo del Hombret vino a buscar y a salvar a los que están perdidos.

Parábola de los diez siervos

11 La multitud escuchaba todo lo que Jesús decía, y como ya se acercaba a Jerusalén, les contó una historia para corregir la idea de que el reino de Dios comenzaría de inmediato. 12 Les dijo: «Un hombre de la nobleza fue llamado a un país lejano para ser coronado rey y luego regresar. 13 Antes de partir, reunió a diez de sus siervos y dividió entre ellos cinco kilos de plata,t diciéndoles: “Inviertan esto por mí mientras estoy de viaje”; 14 pero sus súbditos lo odiaban y enviaron una delegación tras él a decir: “No queremos que él sea nuestro rey”.

15 »Después de que lo coronaran rey, volvió y llamó a los siervos a quienes les había dado el dinero. Quería saber qué ganancias habían tenido. 16 El primer siervo informó: “Amo, invertí su dinero, ¡y multipliqué diez veces el monto inicial!”.

17 »“¡Bien hecho! —exclamó el rey—. Eres un buen siervo. Has sido fiel con lo poco que te confié, así que como recompensa serás gobernador de diez ciudades”.

18 »El siguiente siervo informó: “Amo, invertí su dinero y multipliqué cinco veces el monto original”.

19 »“¡Bien hecho! —exclamó el rey—. Serás gobernador de cinco ciudades”.

20 »Pero el tercer siervo trajo sólo la suma original y dijo: “Amo, escondí su dinero para protegerlo. 21 Tenía miedo, porque usted es un hombre muy difícil de tratar, que toma lo que no es suyo y cosecha lo que no sembró”.

22 »“¡Siervo perverso! —dijo el rey a gritos—. Tus propias palabras te condenan. Si sabías que era un hombre duro que tomo lo que no es mío y cosecho lo que no sembré, 23 ¿por qué no depositaste mi dinero en el banco? Al menos hubiera podido obtener algún interés de él”.

24 »Luego, dirigiéndose a los otros que estaban cerca, el rey ordenó: “Quiten el dinero de este siervo y dénselo al que tiene cinco kilos”.

25 »“Pero amo —le dijeron—, él ya tiene cinco kilos”.

26 »“Sí —respondió el rey—, y a los que usan bien lo que se les da, se les dará aún más; pero a los que no hacen nada se les quitará aun lo poco que tienen. 27 En cuanto a esos enemigos míos que no querían que yo fuera su rey, tráiganlos y ejecútenlos aquí mismo en mi presencia”».

Entrada triunfal de Jesús

28 Después de contar esa historia, Jesús siguió rumbo a Jerusalén, caminando delante de sus discípulos. 29 Al llegar a las ciudades de Betfagé y Betania, en el monte de los Olivos, mandó a dos discípulos que se adelantaran. 30 «Vayan a la aldea que está allí —les dijo—. Al entrar, verán un burrito atado, que nadie ha montado jamás. Desátenlo y tráiganlo aquí. 31 Si alguien les pregunta: “¿Por qué desatan al burrito?”, simplemente digan: “El Señor lo necesita”».

32 Así que ellos fueron y encontraron el burrito tal como lo había dicho el Señor.

33 Y, efectivamente, mientras lo desataban, los dueños les preguntaron:
—¿Por qué desatan ese burrito?

34 Y los discípulos simplemente contestaron:
—El Señor lo necesita.

35 Entonces le llevaron el burrito a Jesús y pusieron sus prendas encima para que él lo montara.

36 A medida que Jesús avanzaba, la multitud tendía sus prendas sobre el camino delante de él. 37 Cuando llegó a donde comienza la bajada del monte de los Olivos, todos sus seguidores empezaron a gritar y a cantar mientras alababan a Dios por todos los milagros maravillosos que habían visto.

38 «¡Bendiciones al Rey que viene en el nombre del SEÑOR!
¡Paz en el cielo y gloria en el cielo más alto!»t.

39 Algunos de los fariseos que estaban entre la multitud decían:
—¡Maestro, reprende a tus seguidores por decir cosas como ésas!

40 Jesús les respondió:
—Si ellos se callaran, las piedras a lo largo del camino se pondrían a aclamar.

Jesús llora por Jerusalén

41 Al acercarse a Jerusalén, Jesús vio la ciudad delante de él y comenzó a llorar, diciendo: 42 «¡Cómo quisiera que hoy tú, entre todos los pueblos, entendieras el camino de la paz! Pero ahora es demasiado tarde, y la paz está oculta a tus ojos. 43 No pasará mucho tiempo antes de que tus enemigos construyan murallas que te rodeen y te encierren por todos lados. 44 Te aplastarán contra el suelo, y a tus hijos contigo. Tus enemigos no dejarán una sola piedra en su lugar, porque no aceptaste tu oportunidad de salvación».

Jesús despeja el templo

45 Luego Jesús entró en el templo y comenzó a echar a los que vendían animales para los sacrificios. 46 Les dijo: «Las Escrituras declaran: “Mi templo será una casa de oración”, pero ustedes lo han convertido en una cueva de ladrones»t.

47 Después de eso, enseñó todos los días en el templo, pero los principales sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley religiosa, junto con los otros líderes del pueblo, comenzaron a planificar cómo matarlo; 48 pero no se les ocurría nada, porque el pueblo prestaba mucha atención a cada palabra que él decía.

LUKE 19

Zacchaeus

1 Jesus was going through Jericho, 2 where a man named Zacchaeus lived. He was in charge of collecting taxest and was very rich.

3-4 Jesus was heading his way, and Zacchaeus wanted to see what he was like. But Zacchaeus was a short man and could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree.
5 When Jesus got there, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down! I want to stay with you today.”

6 Zacchaeus hurried down and gladly welcomed Jesus.

7 Everyone who saw this started grumbling, “This man Zacchaeus is a sinner! And Jesus is going home to eat with him.”

8 Later that day Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “I will give half of my property to the poor. And I will now pay back four times as mucht to everyone I have ever cheated.”
9 Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today you and your family have been saved, t because you are a true son of Abraham.t

10 t The Son of Man came to look for and to save people who are lost.”

A Story about Ten Servants

(Matthew 25.14-30)

12 and Jesus told them this story:
A prince once went to a foreign country to be crowned king and then to return.

13 But before leaving, he called in ten servants and gave each of them some money. He told them, “Use this to earn more money until I get back.”

14 But the people of his country hated him, and they sent messengers to the foreign country to say, “We don't want this man to be our king.”

15 After the prince had been made king, he returned and called in his servants. He asked them how much they had earned with the money they had been given.

16 The first servant came and said, “Sir, with the money you gave me I have earned ten times as much.”

17 “That's fine, my good servant!” the king said. “Since you have shown that you can be trusted with a small amount, you will be given ten cities to rule.”

18 The second one came and said, “Sir, with the money you gave me, I have earned five times as much.”

19 The king said, “You will be given five cities.”
20 Another servant came and said, “Sir, here is your money. I kept it safe in a handkerchief.

21 You are a hard man, and I was afraid of you. You take what isn't yours, and you harvest crops you didn't plant.”
22 “You worthless servant!” the king told him. “You have condemned yourself by what you have just said. You knew I am a hard man, taking what isn't mine and harvesting what I've not planted.

23 Why didn't you put my money in the bank? On my return, I could have had the money together with interest.”

24 Then he said to some other servants standing there, “Take the money away from him and give it to the servant who earned ten times as much.”

25 But they said, “Sir, he already has ten times as much!”
26  t The king replied, “Those who have something will be given more. But everything will be taken away from those who don't have anything.

27 Now bring me the enemies who didn't want me to be their king. Kill them while I watch!”

Jesus Enters Jerusalem

(Matthew 21.1-11; Mark 11.1-11; John 12.12-19)

31 If anyone asks why you are doing this, just say, ‘The Lordt needs it.’ ”
32 They went off and found everything just as Jesus had said.

33 While they were untying the donkey, its owners asked, “Why are you doing that?”

34 They answered, “The Lordt needs it.”
35 Then they led the donkey to Jesus. They put some of their clothes on its back and helped Jesus get on. 36 And as he rode along, the people spread clothes on the roadt in front of him. 37 When Jesus started down the Mount of Olives, his large crowd of disciples were happy and praised God because of all the miracles they had seen.

38 t They shouted,
“Blessed is the king who comes
in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven
and glory to God.”

39 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, make your disciples stop shouting!”

40 But Jesus answered, “If they keep quiet, these stones will start shouting.”
41 When Jesus came closer and could see Jerusalem, he cried

42 and said:
It is too bad that today your people don't know what will bring them peace! Now it is hidden from them. 43 Jerusalem, the time will come when your enemies will build walls around you to attack you. Armies will surround you and close in on you from every side.

44 They will level you to the ground and kill your people. Not one stone in your buildings will be left on top of another. This will happen because you did not see that God had come to save you.t

Jesus in the Temple

(Matthew 21.12-17; Mark 11.15-19; John 2.13-22)

46 t He told them, “The Scriptures say, ‘My house should be a place of worship.’ But you have made it a place where robbers hide!”
47  t Each day, Jesus kept on teaching in the temple. So the chief priests, the teachers of the Law of Moses, and some other important people tried to have him killed. 48 But they could not find a way to do it, because everyone else was eager to listen to him.
