Lucas 19

Jesús y Zaqueo

1 Habiendo entrado Jesús en Jericó, iba pasando por la ciudad.2 Y sucedió que un hombre llamado Zaqueo, que era jefe de los publicanos, y rico,3 procuraba ver quién era Jesús, pero no podía a causa de la multitud, pues era pequeño de estatura.4 Y, corriendo delante, se subió a un sicómoro para verlo, porque había de pasar por allí.

5 Cuando Jesús llegó a aquel lugar, mirando hacia arriba lo vio, y le dijo:
—Zaqueo, date prisa, desciende, porque hoy es necesario que me hospede en tu casa.
6 Entonces él descendió aprisa y lo recibió gozoso.7 Al ver esto, todos murmuraban, diciendo que había entrado a hospedarse en casa de un hombre pecador.

8 Entonces Zaqueo, puesto en pie, dijo al Señor:
—Señor, la mitad de mis bienes doy a los pobres; y si en algo he defraudado a alguien, se lo devuelvo cuadruplicado.

9 Jesús le dijo:
—Hoy ha venido la salvación a esta casa, por cuanto él también es hijo de Abraham,

10 porque el Hijo del hombre vino a buscar y a salvar lo que se había perdido.

Parábola de las diez minas

11 Oyendo ellos estas cosas, prosiguió Jesús y dijo una parábola, por cuanto estaba cerca de Jerusalén y ellos pensaban que el reino de Dios se manifestaría inmediatamente.
12 Dijo, pues: «Un hombre noble se fue a un país lejano para recibir un reino y volver.13 Llamó antes a diez siervos suyos, les dio diez minas y les dijo: “Negociad entre tanto que regreso.”

14 Pero sus conciudadanos lo odiaban y enviaron tras él una embajada, diciendo: “No queremos que éste reine sobre nosotros.”
15 »Aconteció que, al regresar él después de recibir el reino, mandó llamar ante él a aquellos siervos a los cuales había dado el dinero, para saber lo que había negociado cada uno.16 Se presentó el primero, diciendo: “Señor, tu mina ha ganado diez minas.”17 Él le dijo: “Está bien, buen siervo; por cuanto en lo poco has sido fiel, tendrás autoridad sobre diez ciudades.”18 Llegó otro, diciendo: “Señor, tu mina ha producido cinco minas.”

19 También a éste dijo: “Tú también sé sobre cinco ciudades.”
20 »Se presentó otro, diciendo: “Señor, aquí está tu mina, la cual he tenido guardada en un pañuelo,21 porque tuve miedo de ti, por cuanto eres hombre severo que tomas lo que no pusiste y siegas lo que no sembraste.”22 Entonces él le dijo: “Mal siervo, por tu propia boca te juzgo. Sabías que yo soy hombre severo que tomo lo que no puse y siego lo que no sembré.23 ¿Por qué, pues, no pusiste mi dinero en el banco para que, al volver, lo hubiera recibido con los intereses?”24 Y dijo a los que estaban presentes: “Quitadle la mina y dadla al que tiene las diez minas.”25 Ellos le dijeron: “Señor, tiene diez minas.”26 “Pues yo os digo que a todo el que tiene, se le dará; pero al que no tiene, aun lo que tiene se le quitará.

27 Y también a aquellos mis enemigos que no querían que yo reinara sobre ellos, traedlos acá y decapitadlos delante de mí.”»

La entrada triunfal en Jerusalén

28 Dicho esto, iba delante subiendo a Jerusalén.29 Al acercarse a Betfagé y a Betania, al monte que se llama de los Olivos, envió a dos de sus discípulos,

30 diciendo:
—Id a la aldea de enfrente, y al entrar en ella hallaréis un asno atado en el cual ningún hombre ha montado jamás; desatadlo y traedlo.

31 Y si alguien os pregunta: “¿Por qué lo desatáis?” le responderéis así: “Porque el Señor lo necesita.”
32 Fueron los que habían sido enviados y hallaron como les dijo.

33 Cuando desataban el asno, sus dueños les dijeron:
—¿Por qué desatáis el asno?

34 Ellos dijeron:
—Porque el Señor lo necesita.
35 Lo trajeron a Jesús; y habiendo echado sus mantos sobre el asno, subieron a Jesús encima.36 Y a su paso tendían sus mantos por el camino.37 Cuando ya se acercaba a la bajada del Monte de los Olivos, toda la multitud de los discípulos, gozándose, comenzó a alabar a Dios a grandes voces por todas las maravillas que habían visto.

38 Decían:
—¡Bendito el Rey que viene en el nombre del Señor! ¡Paz en el cielo y gloria en las alturas!

39 Entonces algunos de los fariseos de entre la multitud le dijeron:
—Maestro, reprende a tus discípulos.

40 Él, respondiendo, les dijo:
—Os digo que si estos callaran las piedras clamarían.
41 Cuando llegó cerca de la ciudad, al verla, lloró por ella,

42 diciendo:
—¡Si también tú conocieras, a lo menos en este tu día, lo que es para tu paz! Pero ahora está encubierto a tus ojos.43 Vendrán días sobre ti cuando tus enemigos te rodearán con cerca, te sitiarán y por todas partes te estrecharán;

44 te derribarán a tierra y a tus hijos dentro de ti, y no dejarán en ti piedra sobre piedra, por cuanto no conociste el tiempo de tu visitación.

Purificación del Templo

45 Entrando en el Templo comenzó a echar fuera a todos los que vendían y compraban en él,,

46 diciéndoles:
—Escrito está: “Mi casa es casa de oración”, pero vosotros la habéis hecho cueva de ladrones.
47 Enseñaba cada día en el Templo; pero los principales sacerdotes, los escribas y los altos dignatarios del pueblo procuraban matarlo.

48 Pero no hallaban nada que pudieran hacerle, porque todo el pueblo estaba pendiente de sus palabras.

LUKE 19

Zacchaeus

1 Jesus was going through Jericho, 2 where a man named Zacchaeus lived. He was in charge of collecting taxest and was very rich.

3-4 Jesus was heading his way, and Zacchaeus wanted to see what he was like. But Zacchaeus was a short man and could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree.
5 When Jesus got there, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down! I want to stay with you today.”

6 Zacchaeus hurried down and gladly welcomed Jesus.

7 Everyone who saw this started grumbling, “This man Zacchaeus is a sinner! And Jesus is going home to eat with him.”

8 Later that day Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “I will give half of my property to the poor. And I will now pay back four times as mucht to everyone I have ever cheated.”
9 Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today you and your family have been saved, t because you are a true son of Abraham.t

10 t The Son of Man came to look for and to save people who are lost.”

A Story about Ten Servants

(Matthew 25.14-30)

12 and Jesus told them this story:
A prince once went to a foreign country to be crowned king and then to return.

13 But before leaving, he called in ten servants and gave each of them some money. He told them, “Use this to earn more money until I get back.”

14 But the people of his country hated him, and they sent messengers to the foreign country to say, “We don't want this man to be our king.”

15 After the prince had been made king, he returned and called in his servants. He asked them how much they had earned with the money they had been given.

16 The first servant came and said, “Sir, with the money you gave me I have earned ten times as much.”

17 “That's fine, my good servant!” the king said. “Since you have shown that you can be trusted with a small amount, you will be given ten cities to rule.”

18 The second one came and said, “Sir, with the money you gave me, I have earned five times as much.”

19 The king said, “You will be given five cities.”
20 Another servant came and said, “Sir, here is your money. I kept it safe in a handkerchief.

21 You are a hard man, and I was afraid of you. You take what isn't yours, and you harvest crops you didn't plant.”
22 “You worthless servant!” the king told him. “You have condemned yourself by what you have just said. You knew I am a hard man, taking what isn't mine and harvesting what I've not planted.

23 Why didn't you put my money in the bank? On my return, I could have had the money together with interest.”

24 Then he said to some other servants standing there, “Take the money away from him and give it to the servant who earned ten times as much.”

25 But they said, “Sir, he already has ten times as much!”
26  t The king replied, “Those who have something will be given more. But everything will be taken away from those who don't have anything.

27 Now bring me the enemies who didn't want me to be their king. Kill them while I watch!”

Jesus Enters Jerusalem

(Matthew 21.1-11; Mark 11.1-11; John 12.12-19)

31 If anyone asks why you are doing this, just say, ‘The Lordt needs it.’ ”
32 They went off and found everything just as Jesus had said.

33 While they were untying the donkey, its owners asked, “Why are you doing that?”

34 They answered, “The Lordt needs it.”
35 Then they led the donkey to Jesus. They put some of their clothes on its back and helped Jesus get on. 36 And as he rode along, the people spread clothes on the roadt in front of him. 37 When Jesus started down the Mount of Olives, his large crowd of disciples were happy and praised God because of all the miracles they had seen.

38 t They shouted,
“Blessed is the king who comes
in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven
and glory to God.”

39 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, make your disciples stop shouting!”

40 But Jesus answered, “If they keep quiet, these stones will start shouting.”
41 When Jesus came closer and could see Jerusalem, he cried

42 and said:
It is too bad that today your people don't know what will bring them peace! Now it is hidden from them. 43 Jerusalem, the time will come when your enemies will build walls around you to attack you. Armies will surround you and close in on you from every side.

44 They will level you to the ground and kill your people. Not one stone in your buildings will be left on top of another. This will happen because you did not see that God had come to save you.t

Jesus in the Temple

(Matthew 21.12-17; Mark 11.15-19; John 2.13-22)

46 t He told them, “The Scriptures say, ‘My house should be a place of worship.’ But you have made it a place where robbers hide!”
47  t Each day, Jesus kept on teaching in the temple. So the chief priests, the teachers of the Law of Moses, and some other important people tried to have him killed. 48 But they could not find a way to do it, because everyone else was eager to listen to him.
