Lukas 2

Jesus blir fødd

(Matt 1,18–25)

1 I dei dagane lét keisar Augustus lysa ut at det skulle takast manntal over heile verda. 2 t Dette var første gongen dei tok manntal, og det hende medan Kvirinius var landshovding i Syria.

3 Då fór alle heim, kvar til sin by, og skulle skriva seg i manntalet.
4  t Også Josef drog då frå byen Nasaret i Galilea og opp til Judea, til Davidsbyen, som heiter Betlehem, for han høyrde til Davids hus og ætt 5 t og skulle skriva seg der saman med Maria, som var lova bort til han. Ho venta då barn. 6 Og medan dei var der, kom tida då ho skulle føda,

7 t og ho fekk son sin, den førstefødde. Ho sveipte han og la han i ei krubbe, for det var ikkje husrom for dei.
8 Det var nokre gjetarar der i området som var ute på marka og heldt vakt over flokken sin om natta. 9 Med eitt stod ein Herrens engel framfor dei, og Herrens herlegdom lyste kringom dei. Då vart dei gripne av stor redsle. 10 Men engelen sa til dei: «Ver ikkje redde! Sjå, eg kjem til dykk med bod om ei stor glede, ei glede for heile folket: 11 t I dag er det fødd dykk ein frelsar i Davids by. Han er Messias, Herren. 12 Og det skal de ha til teikn: De skal finna eit barn som er sveipt og ligg i ei krubbe.»

13 Brått var det ein stor himmelhær saman med engelen; dei lova Gud og song:

14  t t «Ære vere Gud i det høgste,
og fred på jorda
blant menneske Gud har glede i!»
15 Då englane hadde fare attende til himmelen, sa gjetarane til kvarandre: «Lat oss gå inn til Betlehem og sjå dette som har hendt, det som Herren har kunngjort for oss.» 16 Så skunda dei seg dit og fann Maria og Josef og det vesle barnet som låg i krubba. 17 Då dei fekk sjå det, fortalde dei alt som hadde vorte sagt dei om dette barnet. 18 Alle som høyrde på, undra seg over det gjetarane fortalde. 19 t Men Maria gøymde alt dette i hjartet sitt og grunda på det.

20 Og gjetarane vende attende. Dei lova og prisa Gud for alt dei hadde høyrt og sett; alt var slik som det var sagt dei.

Jesus får namn

21  t t Då åtte dagar var gått og han skulle omskjerast, kalla dei han Jesus. Det var det namnet engelen hadde gjeve han før han var komen i mors liv.

Jesus blir boren fram i tempelet

22  t Då reinsingstida som Moselova påla dei, var til ende, tok dei han med seg opp til Jerusalem. Dei ville bera han fram for Herren. 23 t For det står skrive i Herrens lov: Alt av hannkjønn som opnar morslivet, skal helgast til Herren.

24 t Dei ville òg bera fram det offeret som er fastsett i Herrens lov: eit par turtelduer eller to dueungar.
25  t I Jerusalem var det då ein mann som heitte Simeon; han var ein rettvis og gudfryktig mann som venta på Israels trøyst. Den heilage ande var over han, 26 t og Anden hadde late han få vita at han ikkje skulle sjå døden før han hadde sett han som Herren har salva. 27 No kom han opp til tempelet, driven av Anden. Og då foreldra kom med Jesusbarnet for å gjera med han som skikk og bruk var etter lova,

28 tok Simeon barnet i armane sine. Han lova Gud og sa:

29 «Herre, no lèt du tenaren din fara herifrå i fred,
slik som du har lova.

30  t For mine auge har sett di frelse,

31  t som du har gjort i stand like for andletet på alle folk,

32  t eit lys til openberring for heidningane
og til ære for folket ditt, Israel.»
33 Far hans og mor hans undra seg over det som vart sagt om han. 34 t Og Simeon velsigna dei og sa til Maria, mor hans: «Sjå, han er sett til fall og oppreising for mange i Israel og til eit teikn som blir motsagt

35 t – ja, òg gjennom di eiga sjel skal det gå eit sverd. Slik skal dei tankane mange ber i hjartet, koma fram i dagen.»
36 Det var ei profetkvinne der, Anna, dotter til Fanuel, av Asjer-stammen. Ho var langt oppi åra. I ungdomen var ho gift i sju år, 37 t og sidan hadde ho vore enkje; ho var no åttifire år. Ho var aldri borte frå tempelet, men tente Gud i faste og bøn natt og dag.

38 tt I denne stunda kom ho fram og lova Gud, og ho fortalde om barnet til alle som venta på fridom for Jerusalem.
39 Då dei hadde gjort alt som var føreskrive i Herrens lov, fór dei attende til Galilea, til heimbyen Nasaret.

40 t Og guten voks og vart sterk. Han vart fylt av visdom, og Guds nåde var over han.

Jesus som tolvåring i tempelet

41  t Kvart år fór Jesu foreldre til Jerusalem i påskehøgtida. 42 Og då han var tolv år, drog dei som vanleg dit opp til høgtida. 43 Men då høgtidsdagane var til ende og dei skulle fara heim, vart guten Jesus verande att i Jerusalem, og foreldra hans la ikkje merke til det. 44 Dei tenkte han var med i følgjet, og fór ei dagsreise fram før dei tok til å leita etter han mellom slektningar og kjenningar. 45 Sidan dei ikkje fann han, fór dei attende til Jerusalem og leita etter han der. 46 Men først etter tre dagar fann dei han i tempelet. Der sat han midt blant lærarane og lydde på dei og stilte spørsmål. 47 t Og alle som høyrde på han, undra seg over kor klok han var og kor godt han svara. 48 Då foreldra fekk sjå han, vart dei slegne av undring, og mor hans sa: «Kvifor har du gjort dette mot oss, barnet mitt? Far din og eg har leita etter deg og vore så redde.» 49 t Men han svara: «Kvifor leita de etter meg? Visste de ikkje at eg må vera i huset åt Far min?»

50 Men dei skjøna ikkje kva han meinte med dette.
51  t Så vart han med dei heim til Nasaret og var lydig mot dei. Men mor hans gøymde alt dette i hjartet sitt. 52 t Og Jesus gjekk fram i alder og visdom og var til glede for Gud og menneske.

LUKE 2

The Birth of Jesus

(Matthew 1.18-25)

1 About that time Emperor Augustus gave orders for the names of all the people to be listed in record books.t

2 These first records were made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.t
3 Everyone had to go to their own hometown to be listed.

4 So Joseph had to leave Nazareth in Galilee and go to Bethlehem in Judea. Long ago Bethlehem had been King David's hometown, and Joseph went there because he was from David's family.
5 Mary was engaged to Joseph and traveled with him to Bethlehem. She was soon going to have a baby, 6 and while they were there,

7 she gave birth to her first-bornt son. She dressed him in baby clothest and laid him on a bed of hay, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Shepherds

8 That night in the fields near Bethlehem some shepherds were guarding their sheep. 9 t All at once an angel came down to them from the Lord, and the brightness of the Lord's glory flashed around them. The shepherds were frightened. 10 But the angel said, “Don't be afraid! I have good news for you, which will make everyone happy. 11 This very day in King David's hometown a Savior was born for you. He is Christ the Lord.

12 You will know who he is, because you will find him dressed in baby clothes and lying on a bed of hay.”

13 Suddenly many other angels came down from heaven and joined in praising God. They said:

14 “Praise God in heaven!
Peace on earth to everyone
who pleases God.”
15 After the angels had left and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let's go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about.”

16 They hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and they saw the baby lying on a bed of hay.
17 When the shepherds saw Jesus, they told his parents what the angel had said about him. 18 Everyone listened and was surprised.

19 But Mary kept thinking about all this and wondering what it meant.

20 As the shepherds returned to their sheep, they were praising God and saying wonderful things about him. Everything they had seen and heard was just as the angel had said.

21  t Eight days later Jesus' parents did for him what the Law of Moses commands.t And they named him Jesus, just as the angel had told Mary when he promised she would have a baby.

Simeon Praises the Lord

22  t The time came for Mary and Joseph to do what the Law of Moses says a mother is supposed to do after her baby is born.t
They took Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem and presented him to the Lord, 23 t just as the Law of the Lord says, “Each first-bornt baby boy belongs to the Lord.”

24 The Law of the Lord also says parents have to offer a sacrifice, giving at least a pair of doves or two young pigeons. So that is what Mary and Joseph did.
25 At this time a man named Simeon was living in Jerusalem. Simeon was a good man. He loved God and was waiting for him to save the people of Israel. God's Spirit came to him

26 and told him that he would not die until he had seen Christ the Lord.
27 When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to do what the Law of Moses says should be done for a new baby, the Spirit told Simeon to go into the temple.

28 Simeon took the baby Jesus in his arms and praised God,

29 “Lord, I am your servant,
and now I can die in peace,
because you have kept
your promise to me.

30 With my own eyes I have seen
what you have done
to save your people,

31 and foreign nations
will also see this.

32  t Your mighty power is a light
for all nations,
and it will bring honor
to your people Israel.”
33 Jesus' parents were surprised at what Simeon had said. 34 Then he blessed them and told Mary, “This child of yours will cause many people in Israel to fall and others to stand. The child will be like a warning sign. Many people will reject him,

35 and you, Mary, will suffer as though you had been stabbed by a dagger. But all this will show what people are really thinking.”

Anna Speaks about //the Child Jesus

36  t The prophet Anna was also there in the temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher, and she was very old. In her youth she had been married for seven years, but her husband died.

37 And now she was 84 years old.t Night and day she served God in the temple by praying and often going without eating.t

38 At this time Anna came in and praised God. She spoke about the child Jesus to everyone who hoped for Jerusalem to be set free.

The Return to Nazareth

39  t After Joseph and Mary had done everything that the Law of the Lord commands, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee.

40 The child Jesus grew. He became strong and wise, and God blessed him.

The Boy Jesus in the Temple

41  t Every year Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for Passover. 42 And when Jesus was twelve years old, they all went there as usual for the celebration. 43 After Passover his parents left, but they did not know that Jesus had stayed on in the city. 44 They thought he was traveling with some other people, and they went a whole day before they started looking for him.

45 When they could not find him with their relatives and friends, they went back to Jerusalem and started looking for him there.
46 Three days later they found Jesus sitting in the temple, listening to the teachers and asking them questions.

47 Everyone who heard him was surprised at how much he knew and at the answers he gave.

48 When his parents found him, they were amazed. His mother said, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been very worried, and we have been searching for you!”
49 Jesus answered, “Why did you have to look for me? Didn't you know that I would be in my Father's house?”t

50 But they did not understand what he meant.

51 Jesus went back to Nazareth with his parents and obeyed them. His mother kept on thinking about all that had happened.
52  t Jesus became wise, and he grew strong. God was pleased with him and so were the people.
