Lucas 2

Nacimiento de Jesús

1 Aconteció en aquellos días que se promulgó un edicto de parte de Augusto César, que todo el mundo fuera empadronado.,2 Este primer censo se hizo siendo Cirenio gobernador de Siria.

3 E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno a su ciudad.
4 También José subió de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David,5 para ser empadronado con María su mujer, desposada con él, la cual estaba encinta.6 Aconteció que estando ellos allí se le cumplieron los días de su alumbramiento.

7 Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, y lo envolvió en pañales y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.

Los ángeles y los pastores

8 Había pastores en la misma región, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre su rebaño.9 Y se les presentó un ángel del Señor y la gloria del Señor los rodeó de resplandor, y tuvieron gran temor.

10 Pero el ángel les dijo:
—No temáis, porque yo os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que será para todo el pueblo:11 que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor.

12 Esto os servirá de señal: hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, acostado en un pesebre.

13 Repentinamente apareció con el ángel una multitud de las huestes celestiales, que alababan a Dios y decían:

14 «¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas
y en la tierra paz,
buena voluntad para con los hombres!»

15 Sucedió que cuando los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros:
—Pasemos, pues, hasta Belén, y veamos esto que ha sucedido y que el Señor nos ha manifestado.
16 Vinieron, pues, apresuradamente, y hallaron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.17 Al verlo, dieron a conocer lo que se les había dicho acerca del niño.18 Todos los que oyeron, se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.

19 Pero María guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón.

20 Los pastores se volvieron glorificando y alabando a Dios por todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como se les había dicho.

Presentación de Jesús en el Templo

21 Cumplidos los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, le pusieron por nombre Jesús, el cual le había sido puesto por el ángel antes que fuera concebido.
22 Cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ellos conforme a la Ley de Moisés, lo trajeron a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor23 (como está escrito en la Ley del Señor: «Todo varón que abra la matriz será llamado santo al Señor»),

24 y para ofrecer conforme a lo que se dice en la Ley del Señor: «Un par de tórtolas o dos palominos».
25 Había en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón. Este hombre, justo y piadoso, esperaba la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.26 Y le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes que viera al Ungido del Señor.27 Movido por el Espíritu, vino al Templo. Cuando los padres del niño Jesús lo trajeron al Templo para hacer por él conforme al rito de la Ley,

28 él lo tomó en sus brazos y bendijo a Dios, diciendo:

29 «Ahora, Señor, despides a tu siervo en paz,
conforme a tu palabra,

30 porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,

31 la cual has preparado en presencia de todos los pueblos;

32 luz para revelación a los gentiles
y gloria de tu pueblo Israel».
33 José y su madre estaban maravillados de todo lo que se decía de él.

34 Los bendijo Simeón, y dijo a su madre María:
—Éste está puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y para señal que será contradicha

35 (y una espada traspasará tu misma alma), para que sean revelados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.
36 Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad muy avanzada. Había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad,37 y era viuda hacía ochenta y cuatro años; y no se apartaba del Templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.

38 Ésta, presentándose en la misma hora, daba gracias a Dios y hablaba del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalén.

El regreso a Nazaret

39 Después de haber cumplido con todo lo prescrito en la Ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.

40 El niño crecía y se fortalecía, se llenaba de sabiduría y la gracia de Dios era sobre él.

El niño Jesús en el Templo

41 Iban sus padres todos los años a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.42 Cuando tuvo doce años, subieron a Jerusalén conforme a la costumbre de la Fiesta.43 Al regresar ellos, acabada la Fiesta, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalén, sin que lo supieran José y su madre.44 Pensando que estaba entre la compañía, anduvieron durante un día, y lo buscaban entre los parientes y los conocidos;

45 pero como no lo hallaron, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándolo.
46 Aconteció que tres días después lo hallaron en el Templo, sentado en medio de los doctores de la Ley, oyéndolos y preguntándoles.47 Y todos los que lo oían se maravillaban de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas.

48 Cuando lo vieron, se sorprendieron. Su madre le dijo:
—Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con angustia.

49 Entonces él les dijo:
—¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los negocios de mi Padre me es necesario estar?

50 Pero ellos no entendieron lo que les dijo.

51 Descendió con ellos y volvió a Nazaret, y les estaba sujeto. Su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.

52 Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, en estatura y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.

LUKE 2

The Birth of Jesus

(Matthew 1.18-25)

1 About that time Emperor Augustus gave orders for the names of all the people to be listed in record books.t

2 These first records were made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.t
3 Everyone had to go to their own hometown to be listed.

4 So Joseph had to leave Nazareth in Galilee and go to Bethlehem in Judea. Long ago Bethlehem had been King David's hometown, and Joseph went there because he was from David's family.
5 Mary was engaged to Joseph and traveled with him to Bethlehem. She was soon going to have a baby, 6 and while they were there,

7 she gave birth to her first-bornt son. She dressed him in baby clothest and laid him on a bed of hay, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Shepherds

12 You will know who he is, because you will find him dressed in baby clothes and lying on a bed of hay.”

13 Suddenly many other angels came down from heaven and joined in praising God. They said:

14 “Praise God in heaven!
Peace on earth to everyone
who pleases God.”
15 After the angels had left and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let's go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about.”

16 They hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and they saw the baby lying on a bed of hay.
17 When the shepherds saw Jesus, they told his parents what the angel had said about him. 18 Everyone listened and was surprised.

19 But Mary kept thinking about all this and wondering what it meant.

20 As the shepherds returned to their sheep, they were praising God and saying wonderful things about him. Everything they had seen and heard was just as the angel had said.

21  t Eight days later Jesus' parents did for him what the Law of Moses commands.t And they named him Jesus, just as the angel had told Mary when he promised she would have a baby.

Simeon Praises the Lord

22  t The time came for Mary and Joseph to do what the Law of Moses says a mother is supposed to do after her baby is born.t
They took Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem and presented him to the Lord, 23 t just as the Law of the Lord says, “Each first-bornt baby boy belongs to the Lord.”

24 The Law of the Lord also says parents have to offer a sacrifice, giving at least a pair of doves or two young pigeons. So that is what Mary and Joseph did.
25 At this time a man named Simeon was living in Jerusalem. Simeon was a good man. He loved God and was waiting for him to save the people of Israel. God's Spirit came to him

26 and told him that he would not die until he had seen Christ the Lord.
27 When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to do what the Law of Moses says should be done for a new baby, the Spirit told Simeon to go into the temple.

28 Simeon took the baby Jesus in his arms and praised God,

29 “Lord, I am your servant,
and now I can die in peace,
because you have kept
your promise to me.

30 With my own eyes I have seen
what you have done
to save your people,

31 and foreign nations
will also see this.

32  t Your mighty power is a light
for all nations,
and it will bring honor
to your people Israel.”
33 Jesus' parents were surprised at what Simeon had said. 34 Then he blessed them and told Mary, “This child of yours will cause many people in Israel to fall and others to stand. The child will be like a warning sign. Many people will reject him,

35 and you, Mary, will suffer as though you had been stabbed by a dagger. But all this will show what people are really thinking.”

Anna Speaks about //the Child Jesus

37 And now she was 84 years old.t Night and day she served God in the temple by praying and often going without eating.t

38 At this time Anna came in and praised God. She spoke about the child Jesus to everyone who hoped for Jerusalem to be set free.

The Return to Nazareth

40 The child Jesus grew. He became strong and wise, and God blessed him.

The Boy Jesus in the Temple

45 When they could not find him with their relatives and friends, they went back to Jerusalem and started looking for him there.
46 Three days later they found Jesus sitting in the temple, listening to the teachers and asking them questions.

47 Everyone who heard him was surprised at how much he knew and at the answers he gave.

48 When his parents found him, they were amazed. His mother said, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been very worried, and we have been searching for you!”
49 Jesus answered, “Why did you have to look for me? Didn't you know that I would be in my Father's house?”t

50 But they did not understand what he meant.

51 Jesus went back to Nazareth with his parents and obeyed them. His mother kept on thinking about all that had happened.
52  t Jesus became wise, and he grew strong. God was pleased with him and so were the people.
