1 Lúc ấy, Sê-sa Au-gút-tơ ra chiếu chỉ phải lập sổ dân trong cả thiên hạ.2 Việc lập sổ dân nầy là trước hết, và nhằm khi Qui-ri-ni-u làm quan tổng đốc xứ Sy-ri.3 Ai nấy đều đến thành mình khai tên vào sổ.4 Vì Giô-sép là dòng dõi nhà Đa-vít, cho nên cũng từ thành Na-xa-rét, xứ Ga- li-lê, lên thành Đa-vít, gọi là Bết-lê-hem, xứ Giu-đê,5 để khai vào sổ tên mình và tên Ma-ri, là người đã hứa gả cho mình đang có thai.6 Đang khi hai người ở nơi đó, thì ngày sanh đẻ của Ma-ri đã đến.7 Người sanh con trai đầu lòng, lấy khăn bọc con mình, đặt nằm trong máng cỏ, vì nhà quán không có đủ chỗ ở.8 Vả, cũng trong miền đó, có mấy kẻ chăn chiên trú ngoài đồng, thức đêm canh giữ bầy chiên.9 Một thiên sứ của Chúa đến gần họ, và sự vinh hiển của Chúa chói lòa xung quanh, họ rất sợ hãi.10 Thiên sứ bèn phán rằng: Đừng sợ chi; vì nầy, ta báo cho các ngươi một Tin Lành, sẽ làm một sự vui mừng lớn cho muôn dân;11 ấy là hôm nay tại thành Đa-vít đã sanh cho các ngươi một Đấng Cứu thế, là Christ, là Chúa.12 Nầy là dấu cho các ngươi nhìn nhận Ngài: Các ngươi sẽ gặp một con trẻ bọc bằng khăn, nằm trong máng cỏ.13 Bỗng chúc có muôn vàn thiên binh với thiên sứ đó ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời rằng:14 Sáng danh Chúa trên các từng trời rất cao, Bình an dưới đất, ân trạch cho loài người!15 Sau khi các thiên sứ lìa họ lên trời rồi, bọn chăn nói với nhau rằng: Chúng ta hãy tới thành Bết-lê-hem, xem việc đã xảy đến mà Chúa cho chúng ta hay.16 Vậy, họ vội vàng đi đến đó, thấy Ma-ri, Giô-sép, và thấy con trẻ đang nằm trong máng cỏ.17 Đã thấy vậy, họ bèn thuật lại những lời thiên sứ nói về con trẻ đó.18 Ai nấy nghe chuyện bọn chăn chiên nói, đều lấy làm lạ.19 Còn Ma-ri thì ghi nhớ mọi lời ấy và suy nghĩ trong lòng.20 Bọn chăn chiên trở về, làm sáng danh và ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời về mọi điều mình đã nghe và thấy y như lời đã bảo trước cùng mình.21 Đến ngày thứ tám, là ngày phải làm phép cắt bì cho con trẻ, thì họ đặt tên là Jêsus, là tên thiên sứ đã đặt cho, trước khi chịu cưu mang trong lòng mẹ.22 Khi đã hết những ngày tinh sạch rồi, theo luật pháp Môi-se, Giô-sép và Ma-ri đem con trẻ lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem để dâng cho Chúa,23 như đã chép trong luật pháp Chúa rằng: Hễ con trai đầu lòng, phải dâng cho Chúa,24 lại dâng một cặp chim cu, hoặc chim bò câu con, như luật pháp Chúa đã truyền.25 Vả, trong thành Giê-ru-sa-lem có một người công bình đạo đức, tên là Si- mê-ôn, trông đợi sự yên ủi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và Đức Thánh Linh ngự trên người.26 Đức Thánh Linh đã bảo trước cho người biết mình sẽ không chết trước khi thấy Đấng Christ của Chúa.27 Vậy người cảm bởi Đức Thánh Linh vào đền thờ, lúc có cha mẹ đem con trẻ là Jêsus đến, để làm trọn cho Ngài các thường lệ mà luật pháp đã định,28 thì người bồng ẵm con trẻ, mà ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời rằng:29 Lạy Chúa, bây giờ xin Chúa cho tôi tớ Chúa được qua đời bình an, theo như lời Ngài;30 Vì con mắt tôi đã thấy sự cứu vớt của Ngài,31 Mà Ngài đã sắm sửa đặng làm ánh sáng trước mặt muôn dân,32 Soi khắp thiên hạ, Và làm vinh hiển cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên là dân Ngài.33 Cha mẹ con trẻ lấy làm lạ về mấy lời người ta nói về con.34 Si-mê-ôn bèn chúc phước cho hai vợ chồng, nói với Ma-ri, mẹ con trẻ rằng: Đây, con trẻ nầy đã định làm một cớ cho nhiều người trong Y-sơ-ra-ên vấp ngã hoặc dấy lên, và định làm một dấu gây nên sự cãi trả;35 còn phần ngươi, có một thanh gươm sẽ đâm thấu qua lòng ngươi. Ấy vậy tư tưởng trong lòng nhiều người sẽ được bày tỏ.36 Lại có bà tiên tri An-ne, con gái của Pha-nu-ên, về chi phái A-se, đã cao tuổi lắm. Từ lúc còn đồng trinh đã ở với chồng được bảy năm;37 rồi thì ở góa. Bấy giờ đã tám mươi bốn tuổi, chẳng hề ra khỏi đền thờ, cứ đêm ngày hầu việc Đức Chúa Trời, kiêng ăn và cầu nguyện.38 Một lúc ấy, người cũng thình lình đến đó, ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời, và nói chuyện về con trẻ với mọi người trông đợi sự giải cứu của thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.39 Khi Giô-sép và Ma-ri đã làm trọn mọi việc theo luật pháp Chúa rồi, thì trở về thành của mình là Na-xa-rét trong xứ Ga-li-lê.40 Con trẻ lớn lên, và mạnh mẽ, được đầy dẫy sự khôn ngoan, và ơn Đức Chúa Trời ngự trên Ngài.41 Vả, hằng năm đến ngày lễ Vượt qua, cha mẹ Đức Chúa Jêsus thường đến thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.42 Khi Ngài lên mười hai tuổi, theo lệ thường ngày lễ, cùng lên thành Giê- ru-sa-lem.43 Các ngày lễ qua rồi, cha mẹ trở về, con trẻ là Jêsus ở lại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, mà cha mẹ không hay chi hết.44 Hai người tưởng rằng Ngài cũng đồng đi với bạn đi đường, đi trót một ngày, rồi mới tìm hỏi trong đám bà con quen biết;45 nhưng không thấy Ngài, bèn trở lại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem mà tìm.46 Khỏi ba ngày, gặp Ngài tại trong đền thờ đang ngồi giữa mấy thầy thông thái, vừa nghe vừa hỏi.47 Ai nấy nghe, đều lạ khen về sự khôn ngoan và lời đối đáp của Ngài.48 Khi cha mẹ thấy Ngài, thì lấy làm lạ, và mẹ hỏi rằng: Hỡi con, sao con làm cho hai ta thể nầy? Nầy, cha và mẹ đã khó nhọc lắm mà tìm con.49 Ngài thưa rằng: Cha mẹ kiếm tôi làm chi? Há chẳng biết tôi phải lo việc Cha tôi sao?50 Nhưng hai người không hiểu lời Ngài nói chi hết.51 Đoạn, Ngài theo về thành Na-xa-rét và chịu lụy cha mẹ. Mẹ Ngài ghi các lời ấy vào lòng.52 Đức Chúa Jêsus khôn ngoan càng thêm, thân hình càng lớn, càng được đẹp lòng Đức Chúa Trời và người ta.

Luke 2

The Census and the Birth of Jesus

1 Nowt in those days a decrees went out from Caesart Augustuss to registerts all the empiret for taxes.2 This was the first registration, taken when Quirinius was governort of Syria.3 Everyonet went to his own townt to be registered.4 Sot Joseph also went up from the town of Nazarethss in Galilee to Judea, to the cityt of David called Bethlehem,ss because he was of the houses and family linet of David.5 He wentt to be registered with Mary, who was promised in marriage to him,t and who was expecting a child.6 Whilet they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child.t

7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloths and laid him in a manger,t because there was no place for them in the inn.ts

The Shepherds’ Visit

8 Nowt there were shepherdss nearbyt living out in the field, keeping guardt over their flock at night.9 Ant angel of the Lordt appeared tot them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were absolutely terrified.ts10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! Listen carefully,t for I proclaim to you good newst that brings great joy to all the people:11 Todays your Savior is born in the cityt of David.t He is Christts the Lord.12 Thist will be a signs for you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger.”t

13 Suddenlyt a vast, heavenly armyt appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glorys to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among peoplet with whom he is pleased!”s
15 Whent the angels left them and went back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehems and see this thing that has taken place, that the Lords has made known to us.”16 So they hurried off and located Mary and Joseph, and found the baby lying in a manger.t17 Whent they saw him,t they related what they had been toldt about this child,18 and all who heard it were astonishedt at what the shepherds said.19 But Mary treasured up all these words, pondering in her heart what they might mean.t

20 Sot the shepherds returned, glorifying and praisings God for all they had heard and seen; everything was just as they had been told.ts

21 Att the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given by the angels before he was conceived in the womb.

Jesus’ Presentation at the Temple

22 Nowt when the time came for theirsts purification according to the law of Moses, Joseph and Maryt brought Jesust up to Jerusalems to present him to the Lord23 (just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every firstborn maletwill be set apart to the Lord”s),

24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is specified in the law of the Lord, a pair of dovessor two young pigeons.s

The Prophecy of Simeon

25 Nowt there was a man in Jerusalems named Simeon who was righteoust and devout, looking for the restorationts of Israel, and the Holy Spirits was upon him.26 Itt had been revealedt to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not diet beforet he had seen the Lord’s Christ.ts27 Sot Simeon,t directed by the Spirit,t came into the temple courts,ts and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what was customary according to the law,t

28 Simeont took him in his arms and blessed God, saying,t

29 “Now, according to your word,s Sovereign Lord,t permits your servantts to departt in peace.

30 For my eyes have seen your salvations

31 that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples:s

32 a light,t
for revelation to the Gentiles,
and for glorys to your people Israel.”
33 Sot the child’st fatherss and mother were amazedt at what was said about him.34 Thent Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “Listen carefully:t This childt is destined to be the cause of the falling and risings of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be rejected.t

35 Indeed, as a result of him the thoughtst of many hearts will be revealeds – and a swords will pierce your own soul as well!”s

The Testimony of Anna

36 There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old,t having been married to her husband for seven years until his death.37 She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years.t She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.s

38 At that moment,t she came up to themt and began to give thanks to God and to speakt about the childt to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.ss
39 Sot when Joseph and Maryt had performedt everything according to the law of the Lord,s they returned to Galilee, to their own townt of Nazareth.s

40 And the child grew and became strong,s filled with wisdom,s and the favort of Gods was upon him.

Jesus in the Temple

41 Nowt Jesus’t parents went to Jerusalems everyt year for the feast of the Passover.s42 Whent he was twelve years old,s they went ups according to custom.43 Butt when the feast was over,t as they were returning home,t the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Hist parentss did not know it,44 but (because they assumed that he was in their group of travelers)s they went a day’s journey. Thent they began to look for him among their relatives and acquaintances.t45 Whent they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalems to look for him.46 Aftert three dayss they found him in the temple courts,t sitting among the teachers,t listening to them and asking them questions.47 And all who heard Jesust were astonisheds at his understanding and his answers.48 Whent his parentst saw him, they were overwhelmed. Hist mother said to him, “Child,t why have you treatedt us like this? Look, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously.”t49 Butt he replied,t “Why were you looking for me?t Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”t50 Yett his parentst did not understands the remarkt he madet to them.

51 Thent he went down with them and came to Nazareth,s and was obedientt to them. Butt his mother kept all these thingst in her heart.s

52 And Jesus increasedt in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and with people.
