La parabola dei contadini.

1 Un giorno, mentre Gesù stava insegnando e predicando il Vangelo nel tempio, fu affrontato dai capi sacerdoti e dagli altri capi giudei, insieme con gli anziani.2 Gli chiesero con che diritto facesse quelle cose o chi l’avesse autorizzato.3 « Prima di rispondere, voglio farvi io una domanda », rispose Gesù.4 « Secondo voi, Giovanni fu mandato da Dio o agiva semplicemente di sua iniziativa? »5 Essi cominciarono a discutere fra di loro: « Se diciamo che il messaggio di Giovanni era d’ispirazione divina, allora Gesù ci chiederà perché non gli abbiamo creduto.6 Se invece diciamo che Giovanni non fu mandato da Dio, la folla ci lincerà senz’altro, perché tutti sono convinti che era un profeta ».7 Finalmente risposero: « Non lo sappiamo! »8 Allora Gesù disse: « In tal caso, neppure io risponderò alla vostra domanda ».9 Poi Gesù si rivolse di nuovo alla folla e raccontò questa parabola: « Un uomo piantò una vigna e l’affittò ad alcuni contadini, poi partì per un paese lontano, dove rimase per lungo tempo.10 Al tempo della vendemmia, egli mandò uno dei suoi uomini dai contadini per ritirare la sua parte del raccolto. Ma i contadini lo picchiarono e lo mandarono indietro a mani vuote.11 Allora il padrone mandò un altro servo, ma accadde la stessa cosa; il poveretto fu picchiato e insultato e rimandato indietro a mani vuote.12 Il padrone volle mandare ancora un terzo uomo, che però subì la stessa sorte degli altri. Anch’egli fu ferito e cacciato via.13 “Che posso fare?” si domandò allora il padrone. “Ma sì… manderò il mio carissimo figlio; senz’altro avranno rispetto di lui!”14 Ma quando i contadini videro arrivare il figlio del padrone, dissero: “Questa è l’occasione della nostra vita! Quel tipo erediterà la vigna, quando suo padre morirà. Avanti, uccidiamolo, così la proprietà sarà nostra!”15 Lo trascinarono, quindi, fuori dalla vigna e lo uccisero.
Secondo voi, che cosa farà il padrone?16 Ve lo dico io: verrà, ucciderà quei contadini e affitterà la vigna ad altri ». « Non sia mai! » esclamarono i presenti.17 Gesù li guardò e disse: « Allora che intendono le Scritture, quando dicono: “La pietra scartata dai costruttori è diventata la pietra più importante” »?18 E aggiunse: « Chi inciamperà in quella pietra sarà frantumato; e quelli su cui cadrà, saranno ridotti in polvere ».

19 Udita la storia di Gesù, i capi sacerdoti e i capi religiosi volevano arrestarlo immediatamente, perché si erano resi conto che stava parlando di loro. Infatti erano proprio loro i malvagi contadini della sua parabola. Tuttavia temevano che, se fossero stati proprio loro ad arrestarlo, si sarebbe scatenata una rivolta.20 Perciò cercarono di fargli dire qualcosa di compromettente da riferire al governatore romano e farlo quindi arrestare.
Considerando questa possibilità, mandarono delle spie dall’aspetto di brave persone.21 Costoro dissero a Gesù: « Maestro, sappiamo che quello che tu insegni è giusto. Dici sempre la verità e non dai peso all’apparenza degli uomini, ma insegni la volontà di Dio.22 Ora, dicci: è giusto pagare le tasse al governo romano? »23 Gesù, conoscendo la loro malafede, rispose:24 « Fatemi vedere una moneta. Di chi è il ritratto qui sopra? E di chi è il nome? »
Risposero: « Di Cesare, l’imperatore romano ».25 Allora Gesù concluse: « Quindi, date, a Cesare ciò che è di Cesare, e date a Dio tutto ciò che è di Dio! »26 Così fallì il loro tentativo di comprometterlo agli occhi del popolo, anzi, sorpresi dalla sua risposta, non sapevano più che cosa dire.27 Allora alcuni Sadducei, quelli che dicevano che nessuno può risorgere dopo la morte,28 fecero a Gesù questa domanda: « Maestro, le leggi di Mosè stabiliscono che se un uomo muore senza figli, suo fratello dovrà sposarne la vedova e il primo figlio apparterrà legalmente al morto, per mantenere il suo nome.29 Dunque, c’era una famiglia di sette fratelli. Il maggiore si sposò e morì senza lasciare figli.30 Suo fratello, allora, sposò la vedova, ma anch’egli morì senza figli.31 E così via, uno dopo l’altro, tutti e sette i fratelli la sposarono e morirono, sempre senza avere figli.32 Alla fine anche la donna morì.33 Ecco la domanda: alla risurrezione di chi sarà moglie quella donna, dato che tutti i fratelli l’hanno avuta in moglie?! »34-35 Gesù rispose: « Il matrimonio è per la gente qui sulla terra, ma quando quelli che sono giudicati degni della risurrezione vanno in cielo, non si sposano,36 né possono più morire. In queste cose sono come angeli, e sono figli di Dio, perché sono risorti alla nuova vita dalla morte.37-38 Ma, per quanto riguarda la risurrezione, perfino gli scritti di Mosè ne sono una prova. Perché, quando Mosè descrive come Dio gli apparve nel cespuglio ardente, dice che: “il Signore è il Dio d’Abramo, il Dio di Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe”. Dicendo che Dio è il Dio di una persona, significa che non è il Dio dei morti, ma dei vivi, perché per Lui essi sono vivi.».39 « Ben detto, Signore! » approvarono alcuni dottori della legge lì presenti.40 E questo mise fine alle loro domande, perché non avevano più coraggio di farne altre.41 poi Gesù domandò loro: « Come mai dicono che Cristo, il Messia, deve essere discendente del re Davide?42-43 Davide stesso scrisse nel libro dei Salmi: “Dio disse al mio Signore, il Messia: Siedi alla mia destra, finché non ti abbia messo i nemici sotto i piedi”.44 Com’è possibile che il Messia sia contemporaneamente discendente e Signore di Davide? »45 Poi, mentre la folla ascoltava, si rivolse ai discepoli e disse:46 « Diffidate di questi dottori della legge, perché a loro piace passeggiare avvolti in vesti dignitose e avere gl’inchini della gente, quando passano per strada. E come ci tengono ai posti d’onore nelle sinagoghe e nei banchetti!47 Ma perfino mentre recitano lunghe preghiere con grande sfoggio di commozione, architettano i loro intrighi per truffare le vedove delle loro proprietà! Perciò, per questi uomini ci sarà la più severa condanna di Dio! »

1 And it came to pass, on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, there came upon him the chief priests and the scribes with the elders;2 and they spake, saying unto him, Tell us: By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?3 And he answered and said unto them, I also will ask you a question; and tell me:4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?5 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why did ye not believe him?6 But if we shall say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.7 And they answered, that they knew not whence it was.8 And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.9 And he began to speak unto the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country for a long time.10 And at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.11 And he sent yet another servant: and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty.12 And he sent yet a third: and him also they wounded, and cast him forth.13 And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will reverence him.14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.15 And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them?16 He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.17 But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner?

18 Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.19 And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor.21 And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but of a truth teachest the way of God:22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar’s.25 And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.26 And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.27 And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection;28 and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man’s brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless;30 and the second:31 and the third took her; and likewise the seven also left no children, and died.32 Afterward the woman also died.33 In the resurrection therefore whose wife of them shall she be? for the seven had her to wife.34 And Jesus said unto them, The sons of this world marry, and are given in marriage:35 but they that are accounted worthy to attain to that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:36 for neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the place concerning the Bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.38 Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.39 And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said.40 For they durst not any more ask him any question.41 And he said unto them, How say they that the Christ is David’s son?42 For David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

43 Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

44 David therefore calleth him Lord, and how is he his son?45 And in the hearing of all the people he said unto his disciples,46 Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts;47 who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation.
