Lucas 20

La autoridad de Jesús

1 Jesús estaba en el templo enseñando a la gente y anunciando las buenas noticias. Los sacerdotes principales, los maestros de la Ley y los líderes del país se acercaron

2 y le preguntaron:

—¿Quién te dio autoridad para hacer todo esto?

3 Jesús les contestó:

—Yo también voy a preguntarles algo:

4 ¿Quién le dio autoridad a Juan el Bautista para bautizar ? ¿Dios, o alguna otra persona?

5 Ellos comenzaron a discutir, y se decían unos a otros: «Si contestamos que fue Dios quien le dio autoridad a Juan, Jesús nos preguntará por qué no le creímos.6 Y si decimos que fue un ser humano, la gente nos matará a pedradas, porque creen que Juan era un profeta enviado por Dios.»

7 Entonces respondieron:

—No sabemos quién le dio autoridad a Juan.

8 Jesús les dijo:

—Pues yo tampoco les diré quién me da autoridad para hacer todo esto.

La viña alquilada

9 Jesús le puso a la gente este ejemplo:

«El dueño de un terreno sembró una viña, luego la alquiló y se fue de viaje por largo tiempo.

10 Cuando llegó la época de la cosecha, envió a un sirviente para pedir la parte que le correspondía. Pero los hombres que alquilaron la viña golpearon al sirviente y lo enviaron con las manos vacías.
11 »El dueño envió a otro sirviente, pero también a éste lo golpearon, lo insultaron y lo enviaron sin nada.

12 Luego envió a otro, y a éste también lo hirieron y lo echaron fuera de la viña.

13 »Finalmente, el dueño se puso a pensar: “¿Qué puedo hacer?” Y se dijo: “Ya sé; enviaré a mi hijo que tanto quiero. Estoy seguro que a él sí lo respetarán.”

14 »Cuando aquellos hombres vieron que había llegado el hijo del dueño, se dijeron unos a otros: “Este muchacho es el que recibirá la viña cuando el dueño muera. Vamos a matarlo; así nos quedaremos con el terreno.”

15 »Entonces agarraron al muchacho, lo sacaron del terreno y lo mataron.»

Después Jesús preguntó:

—¿Qué piensan ustedes que hará el dueño con aquellos hombres?

16 Seguramente, cuando regrese, los matará y luego entregará la viña a otras personas.

Cuando la gente oyó eso, dijo:

—¡Eso, jamás!

17 Jesús miró a todos y les dijo:

—Entonces, cuando la Biblia dice:

“La piedra que rechazaron
los constructores del templo
es ahora la piedra principal”,

»¿qué quiso decir con eso?

18 Porque todo el que caiga sobre esa piedra quedará hecho pedazos. Y si la piedra cae sobre alguien, lo dejará hecho polvo.»

19 Los sacerdotes principales y los maestros de la Ley se dieron cuenta de que Jesús los estaba comparando con los hombres malos que alquilaron la viña. Entonces quisieron apresar a Jesús en ese mismo instante, pero no se atrevieron porque le tenían miedo a la gente.

Una trampa para Jesús

20 Los enemigos de Jesús querían arrestarlo y entregarlo al gobernador romano. Pero, como no tenían de qué acusarlo, enviaron a unos espías para que se hicieran pasar por personas buenas y vigilaran en qué momento Jesús decía algo malo.

21 Los espías le dijeron a Jesús:

—Maestro, sabemos que siempre dices la verdad. Tú enseñas que todos deben obedecer a Dios, y tratas a todos por igual.

22 Por eso te preguntamos: ¿Está bien que paguemos impuestos al emperador de Roma, o no?

23 Como Jesús sabía que ellos querían ponerle una trampa, les respondió:

24 —Muéstrenme una moneda. ¿De quién es la imagen que está en la moneda? ¿De quién es el nombre que tiene escrito?

Ellos contestaron:

—Del emperador de Roma.

25 Jesús les dijo:

—Pues denle al emperador lo que es del emperador, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

26 Los espías no lograron que Jesús cayera en la trampa. Quedaron sorprendidos por su respuesta y no supieron decir nada más.

Los saduceos hablan con Jesús

27 Después, unos saduceos fueron a ver a Jesús. Como ellos no creían que los muertos pueden volver a vivir,

28 le preguntaron:

—Maestro, Moisés escribió que, si un hombre muere sin tener hijos con su esposa, el hermano de ese hombre debe casarse con esa mujer y tener hijos con ella. De acuerdo con la ley, esos hijos son del hermano muerto y llevan su nombre.
29 »Pues bien, aquí vivían siete hermanos. El hermano mayor se casó y, tiempo más tarde, murió sin tener hijos.30 El segundo hermano se casó con la misma mujer, pero tiempo después también él murió sin tener hijos.31 Lo mismo sucedió con el tercer hermano y con el resto de los siete hermanos.

32 El tiempo pasó y la mujer también murió.

33 »Ahora bien, cuando Dios haga que todos los muertos vuelvan a vivir, ¿de quién será esposa esta mujer, si estuvo casada con los siete?

34 Jesús contestó:

—Ahora los hombres y las mujeres se casan.35 Pero Dios decidirá quiénes merecen volver a vivir. Cuando eso suceda, nadie se casará36 ni morirá. Todos serán como los ángeles , y por haber vuelto a vivir serán hijos de Dios.37 Hasta Moisés mismo nos demuestra que los muertos vuelven a vivir. En la historia del arbusto que ardía, t Moisés dijo que Dios es el Dios de sus antepasados Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

38 Con eso, Moisés estaba demostrando que Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, pues para Dios todos ellos están vivos. t

39 Algunos maestros de la Ley que estaban allí dijeron:

—¡Maestro, diste una buena respuesta!

40 Después de esto, ya nadie se atrevía a hacerle más preguntas.

La pregunta acerca del Mesías

41 Jesús preguntó a los que estaban allí:

—¿Por qué dice la gente que el Mesías será un descendiente del rey David?

42 Si en el libro de los Salmos el mismo David dice:

“Dios le dijo a mi Señor el Mesías:
‘Siéntate a la derecha de mi trono,

43 hasta que yo derrote a tus enemigos.’”

44 »Si David llama Señor al Mesías, ¿cómo puede ser el Mesías descendiente de David?

Advertencia

45 Delante de toda la gente, Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos :

46 —¡Cuídense de los maestros de la Ley ! A ellos les gusta vestir como gente importante, y que los saluden en el mercado con mucho respeto. Cuando van a una fiesta o a la sinagoga , les gusta ocupar los mejores puestos.

47 Ellos les quitan a las viudas sus casas, y luego hacen oraciones muy largas para que todos piensen que son gente buena. Pero Dios los castigará más duro que a los demás.

LUKE 20

A Question //about Jesus' Authority

(Matthew 21.23-27; Mark 11.27-33)

1 One day, Jesus was teaching in the temple and telling the good news. So the chief priests, the teachers, and the nation's leaders

2 asked him, “What right do you have to do these things? Who gave you this authority?”
3 Jesus replied, “I want to ask you a question.

4 Who gave John the right to baptize? Was it God in heaven or merely some human being?”
5 They talked this over and said to each other, “We can't say God gave John this right. Jesus will ask us why we didn't believe John.

6 And we can't say it was merely some human who gave John the right to baptize. The crowd will stone us to death, because they think John was a prophet.”

7 So they told Jesus, “We don't know who gave John the right to baptize.”

8 Jesus replied, “Then I won't tell you who gave me the right to do what I do.”

Renters of a Vineyard

(Matthew 21.33-46; Mark 12.1-12)

9  t Jesus told the people this story:
A man once planted a vineyard and rented it out. Then he left the country for a long time. 10 When it was time to harvest the crop, he sent a servant to ask the renters for his share of the grapes. But they beat up the servant and sent him away without anything. 11 So the owner sent another servant. The renters also beat him up. They insulted him terribly and sent him away without a thing.

12 The owner sent a third servant. He was also beaten terribly and thrown out of the vineyard.

13 The owner then said to himself, “What am I going to do? I know what. I'll send my son, the one I love so much. They will surely respect him!”
14 When the renters saw the owner's son, they said to one another, “Someday he will own the vineyard. Let's kill him! Then we can have it all for ourselves.”

15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
Jesus asked, “What do you think the owner of the vineyard will do?

16 I'll tell you what. He will come and kill those renters and let someone else have his vineyard.”
When the people heard this, they said, “This must never happen!”
17  t But Jesus looked straight at them and said, “Then what do the Scriptures mean when they say, ‘The stone the builders tossed aside is now the most important stone of all’?

18 Anyone who stumbles over this stone will get hurt, and anyone it falls on will be smashed to pieces.”

19 The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses knew that Jesus was talking about them when he was telling this story. They wanted to arrest him right then, but they were afraid of the people.

Paying Taxes

(Matthew 22.15-22; Mark 12.13-17)

22 Tell us, should we pay taxes to the Emperor or not?”
23 Jesus knew they were trying to trick him. So he told them,

24 “Show me a coin.” Then he asked, “Whose picture and name are on it?”
“The Emperor's,” they answered.
25 Then he told them, “Give the Emperor what belongs to him and give God what belongs to God.”

26 Jesus' enemies could not catch him saying anything wrong there in front of the people. They were amazed at his answer and kept quiet.

Life in the Future World

(Matthew 22.23-33; Mark 12.18-27)

28 t and said:
Teacher, Moses wrote that if a married man dies and has no children, his brother should marry the widow. Their first son would then be thought of as the son of the dead brother.
29 There were once seven brothers. The first one married, but died without having any children. 30 The second one married his brother's widow, and he also died without having any children. 31 The same thing happened to the third one. Finally, all seven brothers married this woman and died without having any children. 32 At last the woman died.

33 When God raises people from death, whose wife will this woman be? All seven brothers had married her.

34 Jesus answered:
The people in this world get married. 35 But in the future world no one who is worthy to rise from death will either marry

36 or die. They will be like the angels and will be God's children, because they have been raised to life.
37  t In the story about the burning bush, Moses clearly shows that people will live again. He said, “The Lord is the God worshiped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”t

38 So the Lord isn't the God of the dead, but of the living. This means that everyone is alive as far as God is concerned.
39 Some of the teachers of the Law of Moses said, “Teacher, you have given a good answer!”

40 From then on, no one dared to ask Jesus any questions.

About David's Son

(Matthew 22.41-46; Mark 12.35-37)

42 t In the book of Psalms, David himself says,
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at my right sidet

43 until I make your enemies
into a footstool for you.’

44 David spoke of the Messiah as his Lord, so how can the Messiah be his son?”

Jesus and the Teachers //of the Law of Moses

(Matthew 23.1-36; Mark 12.38-40; Luke 11.37-54)

45 While everyone was listening to Jesus, he said to his disciples:
46 Guard against the teachers of the Law of Moses! They love to walk around in long robes, and they like to be greeted in the market. They want the front seats in the synagogues and the best seats at banquets. 47 But they cheat widows out of their homes and then pray long prayers just to show off. These teachers will be punished most of all.
