Lukas 20

De judiska ledarna ifrågasätter Jesus uppdrag

1 En dag när Jesus undervisade folket på tempelplatsen och talade till dem om det glada budskapet från Gud, kom översteprästerna och laglärarnat och folkets ledare fram till honom.

2 De krävde att få veta vad han hade för rätt att göra allt det han gjorde, och vem som hade gett honom det uppdraget.
3 "Det ska jag strax säga er", sa Jesus, "om ni bara svarar på en annan fråga först.

4 Vad anser ni: när Johannes döparen döpte, var det på Guds befallning eller inte?"
5 De började genast diskutera med varandra och sa: "Om vi säger att det var på Guds befallning, så kommer han att fråga varför vi inte trodde på honom.6 Men om vi påstår att Gud inte hade sänt honom, då kommer folket att stena oss. De är ju övertygade om att Johannes var en profet som framförde Guds budskap."

7 Därför svarade de till slut: "Vi vet inte."

8 Då sa Jesus till dem: "I så fall säger inte jag heller vem som har gett mig i uppdrag att göra det jag gör."

Berättelsen om mannen som arrenderade ut sin vingård

9 Sedan vände sig Jesus till folket igen och berättade en bild för dem. Han sa: "En man planterade en vingård och arrenderade ut den till några lantbrukare medan han själv reste utomlands och var borta under många år.10 När det så blev dags att skörda, sände han en av sina tjänare till lantbrukarna för att hämta den del av skörden som var hans. Men de överföll tjänaren och skickade tillbaka honom tomhänt.11 Ägaren sände då en annan tjänare, men samma sak hände med honom. Han blev misshandlad och förolämpad och skickades iväg utan att ha fått något.

12 Också en tredje tjänare sändes dit, men även honom slog de blodig och drev iväg.

13 'Vad ska jag göra?' sa ägaren. 'Jo, nu vet jag! Jag sänder min egen älskade son. Honom visar de säkert respekt för.'
14 Men när lantbrukarna fick se sonen, sa de till varandra: 'Här kommer han som ska ärva hela vingården. Kom så dödar vi honom och lägger beslag på den själva!'15 "Vad tror ni ägaren gör med dessa lantbrukare?" frågade Jesus.16 "Jo, han kommer själv dit och dödar dem och ger sedan vingården till andra."
När folket hörde detta, protesterade de högljutt: "Nej! Det kommer aldrig att hända!"17 Men Jesus såg på dem och sa: "Vad betyder då detta som står i Skriftent: 'Den sten som inte dög åt husbyggarna har blivit själva hörnstenen.'t

18 Den som snubblar på den stenen blir krossad, och den som stenen faller på blir söndersmulad.t "

19 Översteprästerna och laglärarnat ville arrestera Jesus genast, eftersom de förstod att det var dem han syftade på i sin berättelse, men de var rädda för folket.

Ska man betala skatt till kejsaren?

20 Medan folkets ledare väntade på sitt tillfälle, skickade de iväg några män som skulle låtsas vara noga med att följa Guds vilja, men egentligen var ute efter att få Jesus att säga något som de kunde arrestera honom för. De tänkte sedan överlämna honom till de romerska myndigheterna.
21 "Mästare", sa de till honom. "Vi vet hur ärlig du är när du undervisar. Du ger inte efter för vad andra tycker och tänker, utan säger oss rakt ut vad som är Guds vilja.

22 Tala nu om för oss om det är rätt eller fel att vi betalar skatt till den romerska kejsaren?"
23 Men Jesus genomskådade deras list och sa:24 "Visa mig ett romerskt mynt. Vems bild finns på det, och vems namn?"
"Kejsarens", svarade de.

25 "Då så", sa han, "ge kejsaren det som är hans. Men det som tillhör Gud det måste ni ge till Gud."

26 De lyckades alltså inte sätta fast honom för något han sa när folket hörde på. Tvärtom var de så förvånade över hans svar att de blev helt tysta.

Ska de döda uppstå igen?

27 Sedan kom några saddukeert till honom. De påstår att de döda inte ska uppstå igen, och därför frågade de:
28 "Mästare, i Moses lagt står det att om en man dör barnlös, ska hans bror gifta sig med änkan och se till att den döde får en son som kan ärva honom.t29 Nu fanns det en familj med sju bröder. Den äldste gifte sig och dog barnlös.30 Då gifte sig bror nummer två med änkan, men inte heller han fick några barn.31 På samma sätt gick det för den tredje, och så fortsatte det tills alla sju hade varit gifta med henne och dött utan att lämna några barn efter sig.32 Till slut dog också kvinnan.

33 Hur ska det gå med henne när de döda uppstår igen? Vems fru blir hon? Alla sju har ju varit gifta med henne!"
34-35 Jesus svarade saddukeerna: "Det är bara här på jorden som män och kvinnor gifter sig. De som är värdiga att få vara med i den kommande världen sedan de har uppstått från de döda, de ska inte gifta sig.

36 De kan inte heller dö, utan ska vara som änglarna. De är Guds barn, för de har uppstått från de döda till ett nytt liv.
37 Att de döda uppstår bevisar Mose också när han talar om hur Gud visade sig för honom i den brinnande törnbusken. Han kallar Gud för Abrahams, Isaks och Jakobs Gud.t

38 Gud är alltså inte en gud för döda, utan för levande. Alla människor är levande för honom.t"
39 "Det var bra svarat, Mästare", sa några av laglärarnat som stod där.

40 Och sedan vågade ingen ställa några fler frågor till honom.

Är Messias ättling till kung David?

41 Sedan frågade Jesus dem: "Hur kan ni påstå att Messias, den utlovade kungen, är ättling till kung Davidt?42 David själv skrev ju i Psaltaren: 'Gud sa till min Herre: Kom och sitt på min högra sida och regera,43 tills jag har lagt dina fiender som en pall under dina fötter.'t

44 Menar ni verkligen att David skulle kalla en av sina ättlingar för Herre?"

Jesus varnar för de religiösa ledarnas dubbelmoral

45 Medan folket lyssnade vände sig Jesus till sina efterföljare och sa:46 "Akta er för laglärarnat, som älskar att gå omkring i långa mantlar och gärna vill bli hälsade med respekt på torgen. Vid gudstjänsterna tar de plats på främsta raden, och de älskar att sitta vid honnörsborden under festerna.

47 Men i sin girighet lurar de hjälplösa änkor på allt de äger, medan de låtsas leva efter Guds vilja genom att be långa böner när andra hör på. Därför kommer Gud att straffa dem desto hårdare."

Luke 20

The Authority of Jesus

1 Now onet day, as Jesust was teaching the people in the temple courtst and proclaimingt the gospel, the chief priests and the experts in the lawt with the elders came ups2 and said to him,t “Tell us: By what authorityt are you doing these things?s Or who it is who gave you this authority?”3 He answered them,t “I will also ask you a question, and you tell me:4 John’s baptisms – was it from heaven or from people?”ts5 Sot they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’6 But if we say, ‘From people,’ all the people will stone us, because they are convinced that John was a prophet.”7 Sot they replied that they did not knows where it came from.

8 Thent Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell yous by whose authorityt I do these things.”

The Parable of the Tenants

9 Thent he began to tell the people this parable: “A mans planted a vineyard,s leased it to tenant farmers,s and went on a journey for a long time.10 When harvest time came, he sent a slaves to the tenants so that they would gives him his portion of the crop.t However, the tenants beat his slavets and sent him away empty-handed.11 Sot he sent another slave. They beat this one too, treated him outrageously, and sent him away empty-handed.s12 Sot he sent still a third. They even wounded this one, and threw him out.13 Thent the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What should I do? I will send my one dear son;ts perhaps they will respect him.’14 But when the tenants saw him, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir; let’s kill him so the inheritance will be ours!’15 Sot they threw him out of the vineyard and killeds him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?16 He will come and destroys those tenants and give the vineyard to others.”s When the peoplet heard this, they said, “May this never happen!”s17 But Jesust looked straight at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?ts18 Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces,t and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”ts

19 Thent the experts in the lawt and the chief priests wanted to arrestt him that very hour, because they realized he had told this parable against them. Butt they were afraid of the people.

Paying Taxes to Caesar

20 Thent they watched him carefully and sent spies who pretended to be sincere.t They wanted to take advantage of what he might sayt so that they could deliver him up to the authority and jurisdictiont of the governor.21 Thust they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly,t and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.s22 Is it rightt for us to pay the tribute taxt to Caesart or not?”23 But Jesust perceived their deceitt and said to them,24 “Show me a denarius.ts Whose imagets and inscription are on it?”t They said, “Caesar’s.”25 Sot he said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”s

26 Thust they were unable in the presence of the people to trapt him with his own words.t And stunnedt by his answer, they fell silent.

Marriage and the Resurrection

27 Now some Sadduceess (who contend that there is no resurrection)s came to him.28 They asked him,t “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies leaving a wife but no children, that mantmust marrytthe widow and father childrentfor his brother.s29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a womant and died without children.30 The seconds31 and then the third married her, and in this same way all seven died, leaving no children.32 Finally the woman died too.

33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be?s For all seven had married her.”t
34 Sot Jesus said to them, “The people of this aget marry and are given in marriage.35 But those who are regarded as worthy to share int that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.s36 In fact, they can no longer die, because they are equal to angelss and are sons of God, since they aret sonst of the resurrection.37 But even Moses revealed that the dead are raisedt in the passage about the bush,s where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.s38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living,s for all live before him.”t39 Thent some of the experts in the lawt answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well!”s

40 For they did not dare any longer to asks him anything.

The Messiah: David’s Son and Lord

41 Buts he said to them, “How is it that they say that the Christts is David’s son?s

42 For David himself says in the book of Psalms,
‘The Lord said to myslord,
“Sit at my right hand,

43 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’s

44 If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”t

Jesus Warns the Disciples against Pride

45 Ast all the people were listening, Jesust said to his disciples,46 “Bewaret of the experts in the law.t Theyt like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetingss in the marketplaces and the best seatss in the synagoguess and the places of honor at banquets.

47 Theyt devours widows’ property,t and as a show make long prayers. They will receive a more severe punishment.”
