Luca 21

Gesù predice il futuro.

1 Mentre stava nel tempio, Gesù si mise ad osservare alcuni ricchi che gettavano il loro denaro nella cassetta delle offerte.2 Passò anche una povera donna vedova, che vi lasciò cadere due monete di rame.3 « Per la verità », osservò Gesù, « questa povera vedova ha dato più di tutti gli altri messi insieme.4 Quelli hanno dato un po’ del loro superfluo, mentre lei, povera com’è, ha dato tutto ciò che le serviva per vivere ».5 Alcuni dei discepoli cominciarono a fare considerazioni sulla bellezza dei bassorilievi e delle offerte votive sulle pareti del tempio.6 Ma Gesù disse: « Verrà il tempo in cui tutte queste cose che voi ammirate saranno distrutte. Non sarà lasciata una pietra sull’altra: tutto diventerà un grande ammasso di rovine! » Allora gli altri gli domandarono:7 « Maestro, quando accadranno queste cose? Ci saranno degli avvertimenti prima di quel periodo? »8 Gesù rispose: « Fate attenzione: non lasciatevi ingannare. Perché molti verranno e si presenteranno come il Messia, dicendo: “Il tempo è giunto!” Però voi non ascoltateli, non seguiteli!9 Quando sentirete parlare di guerre e rivoluzioni, non spaventatevi! È vero, le guerre devono scoppiare, ma la fine non verrà subito dopo.10 Una nazione entrerà in guerra contro un’altra nazione, e un regno contro un altro regno.11 Ci saranno grandi terremoti e carestie in molti paesi; ed anche epidemie, e nel cielo accadranno cose terrificanti.12 Ma prima che tutto questo avvenga, ci sarà un periodo di grande persecuzione: sarete trascinati nelle sinagoghe e nelle prigioni, davanti a re e a governatori per amore del mio nome.13 Ma ciò vi darà l’occasione di parlare a tutti di me.14 Perciò, non preoccupatevi di come dovrete rispondere alle accuse che vi muovono,15 perché sarò io a darvi le parole giuste, e una tale logica che nessuno dei vostri avversari sarà in grado di replicare!16 In quel periodo, perfino quelli più vicini a voi: i vostri genitori, i fratelli, i parenti e gli amici vi tradiranno e vi faranno arrestare; ed alcuni di voi saranno uccisi.17 E tutti vi odieranno, perché siete miei e chiamati col mio nome.18 Eppure non andrà perduto neppure un capello della vostra testa!19 Se starete saldi nella fede, salverete le vostre anime.20 Quando vedrete Gerusalemme cir-con-da-ta da eserciti nemici, allora saprete che è ar-ri-vato il tempo della sua rovina.21 In quel pe-ri-o-do, quelli che saranno in Giudea scappino sul-le colline. Quelli che si troveranno a Ge-ru-sa-lemme fuggano lontano, e quelli fuori città non cerchino di ritornare.22 Perché quello sarà il tempo del giudizio di Dio e si avvereranno pienamente le parole scritte dagli antichi profeti.23 Poverette le donne incinte in quei giorni e quelle che avranno i figli piccoli! Perché ci sarà un grande dolore in tutto il paese e l’ira di Dio colpirà questo popolo.24 Alcuni saranno uccisi brutalmente dalle armi nemiche, altri saranno esiliati o deportati in tutte le nazioni del mondo. Gerusalemme sarà conquistata e calpestata dagli stranieri finché non finirà il periodo del loro trionfo.25 Accadranno allora strane cose nel cielo: fenomeni nel sole, nella luna e nelle stelle e qui sulla terra; i popoli saranno sconvolti, terrorizzati dal rimbombo del mare in tempesta.26 A molti mancherà il coraggio di fronte al destino spaventoso che vedranno avvicinarsi, perché perfino la stabilità dei cieli sarà sconvolta.27 Allora gli abitanti della terra vedranno me, il Messia, arrivare sopra le nuvole con grande potenza e gloria.28 Così, quando cominceranno ad accadere tutte queste cose, state all’erta e alzate la testa, perché il tempo della vostra liberazione è vicino! »29 Poi Gesù raccontò questa parabola: « Osservate il fico o qualsiasi altro albero.30 Quando spuntano le prime foglie, voi sapete, senza che nessuno ve lo dica, che l’estate è vicina.31 Allo stesso modo, quando vedete accadere tutte queste cose che vi ho descritto, potete essere sicuri che il Regno di Dio è vicino.32 In tutta sincerità vi dico che, quando accadranno queste cose, sarà giunta la fine di quest’era.33 I cieli e la terra passeranno, ma le mie parole rimarranno vere per sempre!34-35 Fate attenzione che il mio arrivo improvviso non vi trovi impreparati. Non fate che vi trovi immersi in una vita di agi e leggerezze, a mangiare e a bere, preoccupati soltanto dei problemi di questa vita, come avverrà per il resto del mondo.36 State sempre pronti e pregate, se è possibile, di poter arrivare alla mia presenza, senza avere sperimentato questi orrori ».37-38 Di giorno Gesù andava al tempio ad insegnare, e la folla cominciava a radunarsi la mattina presto per ascoltarlo. Di sera invece egli ritornava sul Monte degli Ulivi per passarvi la notte.

Luke 21

1 And he looked up, and saw the rich men that were casting their gifts into the treasury.2 And he saw a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than they all:4 for all these did of their superfluity cast in unto the gifts; but she of her want did cast in all the living that she had.5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and offerings, he said,6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.7 And they asked him, saying, Teacher, when therefore shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when these things are about to come to pass?8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not led astray: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am he; and, The time is at hand: go ye not after them.9 And when ye shall hear of wars and tumults, be not terrified: for these things must needs come to pass first; but the end is not immediately.10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;11 and there shall be great earthquakes, and in divers places famines and pestilences; and there shall be terrors and great signs from heaven.12 But before all these things, they shall lay their hands on you, and shall persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name’s sake.13 It shall turn out unto you for a testimony.14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to answer:15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay.16 But ye shall be delivered up even by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.18 And not a hair of your head shall perish.19 In your patience ye shall win your souls.20 But when ye see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that her desolation is at hand.21 Then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains; and let them that are in the midst of her depart out; and let not them that are in the country enter therein.22 For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.23 Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people.24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.25 And there shall be signs in sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, in perplexity for the roaring of the sea and the billows;26 men fainting for fear, and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world: for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.28 But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; because your redemption draweth nigh.29 And he spake to them a parable: Behold the fig tree, and all the trees:30 when they now shoot forth, ye see it and know of your own selves that the summer is now nigh.31 Even so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh.32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all things be accomplished.33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.34 But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare:35 for so shall it come upon all them that dwell on the face of all the earth.36 But watch ye at every season, making supplication, that ye may prevail to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.37 And every day he was teaching in the temple; and every night he went out, and lodged in the mount that is called Olivet.38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, to hear him.
