2. Pasión y muerte (22–23)

Conspiración para arrestar y matar a Jesús

(Mt 26.1-5,14-16; Mc 14.1-2,10-11; Jn 11.45-53)

1 Estaba ya cerca la fiesta en que se come el pan sin levadura, o sea, la fiesta de la Pascua.t

2 Los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley, que tenían miedo de la gente,t buscaban la manera de matar a Jesús.
3 Entonces Satanás entró en Judas,t uno de los doce discípulos, al que llamaban Iscariote. 4 Este fue a ver a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a los oficiales del templo, y habló con ellos sobre cómo entregarles a Jesús. 5 Ellos se alegraron y prometieron dinero a Judas.

6 Este aceptó, y empezó a buscar un momento oportuno, cuando no hubiera gente, para entregarles a Jesús.

La Cena del Señor

(Mt 26.17-29; Mc 14.12-25; Jn 13.21-30; 1 Co 11.23-26)

8 Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciendo:
–Id a prepararnos la cena de Pascua.

9 Ellos le preguntaron:
–¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos?

10 Jesús les contestó:
–Al entrar en la ciudad encontraréis a un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua;t seguidle hasta la casa donde entre 11 y decidle al dueño de la casa: ‘El Maestro pregunta: ¿Cuál es la sala donde he de comer con mis discípulos la cena de Pascua?’

12 Él os mostrará en el piso alto una habitación grande y arreglada: preparad allí la cena.t

13 Fueron, pues, y lo encontraron todo como Jesús les había dicho, y prepararon la cena de Pascua.t
14 Cuando llegó la hora,t Jesús y los apóstoles se sentaront a la mesa.

15 Él les dijo:
–¡Cuánto he deseado celebrar con vosotros esta cena de Pascua antes de mi muerte!

16 Porque os digo que no volveré a celebrarla hasta que se cumpla en el reino de Dios.t

17 Entonces tomó en sus manos una copa,t y habiendo dado gracias a Dios dijo:
–Tomad esto y repartidlo entre vosotros;

18 porque os digo que no volveré a beber del fruto de la vid hasta que venga el reino de Dios.

19 Después tomó el pan en sus manos, y habiendo dado gracias a Dios lo partió y se lo dio a ellos, diciendo:
–Esto es mi cuerpo,t entregado a muerte en favor vuestro. Haced esto en memoria de mí.

20 Lo mismo hizo con la copa después de la cena, diciendo:
–Esta copa es el nuevo pacto confirmado con mi sangre,t la cual es derramada en favor vuestro. 21 Pero mirad, la mano del que me va a traicionar está aquí, con la mía, sobre la mesa.t

22 Pues el Hijo del hombre ha de recorrer el camino que se le ha señalado,t pero ¡ay de aquel que le traiciona!

23 Entonces comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros quién sería el traidor.

Quién es el más importante

27 Pues ¿quién es más importante, el que se sienta a la mesa a comer o el que sirve? ¿No es acaso el que se sienta a la mesa? En cambio yo estoy entre vosotros como el que sirve.t
28 “Vosotros habéis estado siempre conmigo en mis pruebas. 29 Por eso yo os asigno un reino, como mi Padre me lo asignó a mí,

30 y comeréis y beberéis a mi mesa en mi reino, y os sentaréis en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.”t

Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

(Mt 26.31-35; Mc 14.27-31; Jn 13.36-38)

31 Dijo también el Señor:
–Simón, Simón, mira que Satanás os ha reclamado para zarandearost como a trigo;

32 pero yo he rogado por ti, para que no te falte la fe. Y tú, cuando te hayas vuelto a mí,t ayuda a tus hermanos a permanecer firmes.

33 Simón le dijo:
–Señor, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo a la cárcel y hasta a morir contigo.

34 Jesús le contestó:
–Pedro, te digo que hoy mismo, antes que cante el gallo,t negarás tres veces que me conoces.

Se acerca la hora de la prueba

35 Luego Jesús les preguntó:
–Cuando os envié sin bolsa ni provisiones ni sandalias,t ¿acaso os faltó algo?
Ellos contestaron:
–Nada.

36 Entonces les dijo:
–Ahora, en cambio, el que tenga bolsa, que la traiga, y también provisiones; y el que no tenga espada, que venda su abrigo y se compre una.t

37 Porque os digo que ha de cumplirse en mí lo que dicen las Escrituras: ‘Y fue contado entre los malvados’.t Porque todo lo que de mí está escrito ha de cumplirse.

38 Ellos dijeron:
–Señor, aquí hay dos espadas.
Y él contestó:
–Ya basta.t

Jesús ora en Getsemaní

(Mt 26.36-46; Mc 14.32-42)

40 Al llegar al lugar, les dijo:
–Orad, para que no caigáis en tentación.t
41 Se alejó de ellos como a distancia de un tiro de piedra, y se puso a orar de rodillas,t

42 diciendo:
–Padre, si quieres, líbrame de esta copa amarga;t pero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.
43 [En esto se le apareció un ángel del cielo, que le daba fuerzas. 44 En medio de un gran sufrimiento, Jesús oraba aún más intensamente, y el sudor le caía al suelo como grandes gotas de sangre.]t 45 Cuando se levantó de la oración fue a donde estaban los discípulos, y los encontró dormidos, vencidos por la tristeza.

46 Les dijo:
–¿Por qué dormís? Levantaos y orad, para que no caigáis en tentación.

Jesús es arrestado

(Mt 26.47-56; Mc 14.43-50; Jn 18.2-11)

48 Jesús le dijo:
–Judas, ¿con un beso traicionas al Hijo del hombre?t

49 Los que estaban con Jesús, al ver lo que pasaba, le preguntaron:
–Señor, ¿atacamos con espada?
50 Y uno de ellos hirió al criado del sumo sacerdote cortándole la oreja derecha.

51 Jesús dijo:
–Dejadlo. Ya basta.
Y tocando la oreja al criado, se la curó.

52 Luego dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los oficiales del templo y a los ancianos que habían ido a apresarle:
–¿Por qué venís con espadas y palos como si yo fuera un bandido?

53 Todos los días he estado con vosotros en el templo,t y ni siquiera me tocasteis. Pero esta es vuestra hora, la del poder de las tinieblas.t

Pedro niega conocer a Jesús

(Mt 26.57-58,69-75; Mc 14.53-54,66-72; Jn 18.12-18,25-27)

56 En esto, una sirvienta, al verle sentado junto al fuego, se quedó mirándole y dijo:
–También este estaba con él.

57 Pero Pedro lo negó, diciendo:
–Mujer, yo no le conozco.

58 Poco después le vio otro y dijo:
–Tú también eres de ellos.
Pedro contestó:
–No, hombre, no lo soy.

59 Como una hora más tarde, otro insistió:
–Seguro que este estaba con él. Además es de Galilea.

60 Pedro dijo:
–¡Hombre, no sé de qué hablas!
En el mismo instante, mientras Pedro aún estaba hablando, cantó un gallo. 61 Entonces el Señor se volvió y miró a Pedro, y Pedro se acordó de que el Señor le había dicho: “Hoy, antes que cante el gallo, me negarás tres veces.”t

62 Y salió Pedro de allí y lloró amargamente.

Se burlan de Jesús

(Mt 26.67-68; Mc 14.65)

64 Le taparon los ojos y le decían:
–¡Adivina quién te ha pegado!

65 Y le insultaban de otras muchas maneras.

Jesús ante la Junta Suprema

(Mt 26.59-66; Mc 14.55-64; Jn 18.19-24)

66 Al hacerse de día se reunieron los ancianos de los judíos, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley. Condujeron a Jesús ante la Junta Suprema,t y allí le preguntaron:

67 – Dinos, ¿eres tú el Mesías?
–Si os digo que sí –les contestó–, no me vais a creer; 68 y si os hago preguntas, no me vais a responder.

69 Pero desde ahora el Hijo del hombre estará sentado a la derecha del Dios todopoderoso.t

70 Todos le preguntaron:
–¿Así que tú eres el Hijo de Dios?
–Vosotros decís que lo soy –contestó Jesús.t

71 Entonces dijeron ellos:
–¿Qué necesidad tenemos de más testigos? ¡Nosotros mismos lo hemos oído de sus propios labios!t

Luke 22

Judas’ Decision to Betray Jesus

1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread,s which is called the Passover, was approaching.

2 Thet chief priests and the experts in the lawt were trying to find some wayt to executet Jesus,t for they were afraid of the people.s
3 Thent Satans entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve.t4 He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guardt how he mightt betray Jesus,t handing him over to them.t5 Theyt were delighteds and arranged to give him money.s

6 Sot Judast agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesust when no crowd was present.ts

The Passover

7 Then the day for the feastt of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.s8 Jesust sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passovers for us to eat.”t9 Theyt said to him, “Where do you want us to preparet it?”10 He said to them, “Listen,t when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of waters will meet you.s Follow him into the house that he enters,11 and tell the owner of the house,t ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’12 Then he will show you a large furnished room upstairs. Make preparations there.”

13 Sot they went and found thingst just as he had told them,s and they prepared the Passover.

The Lord’s Supper

14 Nowt when the hour came, Jesust took his place at the tablet and the apostles joinedt him.15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desiredt to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.16 For I tell you, I will not eat it againt until it is fulfilleds in the kingdom of God.”s17 Thent he took a cup,s and after giving thanks he said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves.18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruitt of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”s19 Thent he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my bodys which is given for you.s Do this in remembrance of me.”

20 And in the same way he tookt the cup after they had eaten,t saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenants in my blood.

A Final Discourse

21 “But look, the hand of the one who betrayss me is with me on the table.s22 For the Son of Man is to go just as it has been determined,s but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!”

23 Sot they began to question one another as to which of them it could possibly be who would do this.
24 A dispute also startedt among them over which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.t25 Sot Jesust said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’s26 Not so with you;t instead the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leadert like the one who serves.s

27 For who is greater, the one who is seated at the table,t or the one who serves? Is it nott the one who is seated at the table? But I am among you as ones who serves.
28 “You are the ones who have remainedt with me in my trials.29 Thust I grants to you a kingdom,t just as my Father granted to me,

30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sitt on thrones judgings the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 “Simon,s Simon, pay attention!t Satan has demanded to have you all,s to sift you like wheat,s32 but I have prayed for you, Simon,s that your faith may not fail.s Whent you have turned back,t strengthens your brothers.”33 But Petert said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!”s

34 Jesus replied,t “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crows today until you have denieds three times that you know me.”
35 Thent Jesust said to them, “When I sent you out with no money bag,t or traveler’s bag,t or sandals, you didn’t lacks anything, did you?” They replied,t “Nothing.”36 He said to them, “But now, the one whot has a money bag must take it, and likewise a traveler’s bagt too. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one.37 For I tell you that this scripture must bes fulfilled in me, ‘And he was counted with the transgressors.’ts For what is written about me is being fulfilled.”t

38 Sot they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.”s Then he told them, “It is enough.”s

On the Mount of Olives

39 Thent Jesust went out and made his way,t as he customarily did, to the Mount of Olives,s and the disciples followed him.40 When he came to the place,s he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”s41 He went away from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and prayed,42 “Father, if you are willing, taket this cups away from me. Yet not my will but yourss be done.”43 Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.44 And in his anguisht he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.]sss45 Whent he got up from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, exhaustedt from grief.

46 Sot he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not fall into temptation!”s

Betrayal and Arrest

47 While he was still speaking, suddenly a crowd appeared,t and the man named Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He walked upt to Jesus to kiss him.s48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”s49 Whent those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said, “Lord, shouldt we use our swords?”s50 Thent one of thems struck the high priest’s slave,t cutting off his right ear.51 But Jesus said,t “Enough of this!” And he touched the man’st ear and healeds him.52 Thent Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,t and the elders who had come out to get him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?t

53 Day after day when I was with you in the temple courts,t you did not arrest me.t But this is your hour,t and that of the powert of darkness!”

Jesus’ Condemnation and Peter’s Denials

54 Thent they arrestedt Jesus,t led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house.s But Peter was following at a distance.55 When they had made a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them.56 Then a slave girl,t seeing him as he sat in the firelight, stared at him and said, “This man was with him too!”57 But Petert denied it: “Woman,s I don’t knows him!”58 Thent a little later someone elses saw him and said, “You are one of them too.” But Peter said, “Man,t I am not!”59 And after about an hour still another insisted,t “Certainly this man was with him, because he too is a Galilean.”s60 But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” At that moment,t while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.t61 Thent the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord,t how he had said to him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”

62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.s
63 Nowt the men who were holding Jesust under guard began to mock him and beat him.64 Theyt blindfolded him and asked him repeatedly,t “Prophesy! Who hit you?”ts

65 They also said many other things against him, revilingt him.
66 When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law.t Thent they led Jesust away to their councils67 and said, “Ift you are the Christ,ts tell us.” But he said to them, “Ift I tell you, you will nott believe,68 and ift I ask you, you will nott answer.69 But from now onsthe Son of Man will be seated at the right hands of the powers of God.”70 Sot they all said, “Are you the Son of God,s then?” He answeredt them, “You says that I am.”

71 Thent they said, “Why do we need further testimony? We have heard it ourselvess from his own lips!”t
