Il patto del tradimento

(Mat. 26.1-5,14-16 e rif.)

1 OR la festa degli azzimi, detta la pasqua, si avvicinava.

2 E i principali sacerdoti, e gli Scribi, cercavano come lo farebbero morire, perciocchè temevano il popolo.
3 Or Satana entrò in Giuda, detto per soprannome Iscariot, il quale era del numero de'~dodici. 4 Ed egli andò, e ragionò co'~principali sacerdoti, e co'~capitani, come egli lo metterebbe loro nelle mani. 5 Ed essi se ne rallegrarono, e patteggiarono con lui di dargli danari.

6 Ed egli promise di darglielo nelle mani; e cercava opportunità di farlo senza tumulto.

L'ultima pasqua; la Santa Cena

13 Essi dunque, andati, trovaron come egli avea lor detto, ed apparecchiaron la pasqua.
14 E quando l'ora fu venuta, egli si mise a tavola, co'~dodici apostoli. 15 Ed egli disse loro: Io ho grandemente desiderato di mangiar questa pasqua con voi, innanzi che io soffra. 16 Perciocchè io vi dico che non ne mangerò più, finchè tutto sia compiuto nel regno di Diot. 17 Ed avendo preso il calice, rendè graziet, e disse: Prendete questo calice, e distribuitelo tra voi;

18 perciocchè, io vi dico che non berrò più del frutto della vigna, finchè il regno di Dio sia venuto.
19 Poi, avendo preso il pane, rendè grazie, e lo ruppe, e lo diede loro, dicendo: Quest'è il mio corpo, il quale è dato per voi; fate questo in rammemorazione di met.

20 Parimente ancora, dopo aver cenato, diede loro il calice, dicendo: Questo calice è il nuovo patto nel mio sangue, il quale è sparso per voit.
21 Nel rimanente, ecco, la mano di colui che mi tradisce è meco a tavolat.

22 E il Figliuol dell'uomo certo se ne va, secondo ch'è determinatot; ma, guai a quell'uomo per cui egli è tradito!

23 Ed essi cominciarono a domandarsi gli uni gli altri, chi fosse pur quel di loro che farebbe ciò.

Il maggiore sia come il minore

(Mat. 20.25-28 e rif.)

27 Perciocchè, quale è il maggiore, colui ch'è a tavola, o pur colui che serve? non è egli colui ch'è a tavola? or io sono in mezzo di voi come colui che servet.
28 Or voi siete quelli che siete perseverati meco nelle mie tentazionit. 29 Ed io altresì vi dispongo il regnot, siccome il Padre mio me l'ha disposto;

30 acciocchè voi mangiate, e beviate, alla mia tavola, nel mio regnot; e sediate sopra de'~tronit, giudicando le dodici tribù d'Israele.

Pietro avvisato

32 Ma io ho pregato per tet, acciocchè la tua fede non venga meno; e tu, quando un giorno sarai convertito, conferma i tuoi fratellit.

33 Ma egli disse: Signore, io son presto ad andar teco, e in prigione, ed alla morte.

34 Ma Gesù disse: Pietro, io ti dico che il gallo non canterà oggi, prima che tu non abbi negato tre volte di conoscermi.

Le due spade

35 POI disse loro: Quando io vi ho mandati senza borsa, e senza tasca, e senza scarpet, avete voi avuto mancamento di cosa alcuna? Ed essi dissero: Di niuna.
36 Disse loro adunque: Ma ora, chi ha una borsa tolgala; parimente ancora una tasca; e chi non ne ha venda la sua vesta, e comperi una spada.

37 Perciocchè, io vi dico che conviene che eziandio questo ch'è scritto sia adempiuto in me: Ed egli è stato annoverato fra i malfattorit. Perciocchè le cose, che sono scritte di me, hanno il lor compimento.

38 Ed essi dissero: Signore, ecco qui due spade. Ed egli disse loro: Basta.

Gesù in Ghetsemane

(Mat. 26.36-46 e rif.)

39 POI, essendo uscito, andò, secondo la sua usanzat, al monte degli Ulivi; e i suoi discepoli lo seguitavano anch'essi.
40 E giunto al luogo, disse loro: Orate, che non entriate in tentazionet. 41 Allora egli fu divelto da loro, quasi per una gettata di pietra; 42 e postosi in ginocchioni, orava, dicendo: Padre, oh! volessi tu trasportar da me questo calice! ma pure, non la mia volontà, me la tua sia fatta. 43 Ed un angelo gli apparve dal cielo confortandolot.

44 Ed egli, essendo in agoniat, orava vie più intentamente; e il suo sudore divenne simile a grumoli di sangue, che cadevano in terra.
45 Poi, levatosi dall'orazione, venne ai suoi discepoli, e trovò che dormivano di tristizia.

46 E disse loro: Perchè dormite? levatevi, ed orate, che non entriate in tentazione.

Arresto di Gesù

(Mat. 26.47-56 e rif.)

48 E Gesù gli disse: Giuda, tradisci tu il Figliuol dell'uomo con un bacio?
49 E coloro ch'erano della compagnia di Gesù, veggendo che cosa era per avvenire, dissero: Signore, percoteremo noi con la spadat? 50 Ed un certo di loro percosse il servitore del sommo sacerdote, e gli spiccò l'orecchio destro.

51 Ma Gesù fece lor motto, e disse: Lasciate, basta! E, toccato l'orecchio di colui, lo guarì.
52 E Gesù disse a'~principali sacerdoti, ed a'~capi del tempio, ed agli anziani, che eran venuti contro a lui: Voi siete usciti contro a me con ispade, e con aste, come contro ad un ladrone.

53 Mentre io era con voi tuttodì nel tempio, voi non metteste mai le mani sopra me; ma quest'è l'ora vostra, e la podestà delle tenebre.

Gesù rinnegato da Pietro

54 ED essi lo presero, e lo menarono, e lo condussero dentro alla casa del sommo sacerdotet; e Pietro lo seguitava da lungi.

55 Ed avendo essi acceso del fuoco in mezzo della corte, ed essendosi posti a sedere insieme, Pietro si sedette nel mezzo di loro.
56 Or una certa fanticella, vedutolo seder presso del fuoco, e guardatolo fiso, disse: Anche costui era con lui.

57 Ma egli lo rinnegò, dicendo: Donna, io nol conosco.

58 E, poco appresso, un altro, vedutolo, gli disse: Anche tu sei di quelli. Ma Pietro disse: O uomo, non sono.
59 E, infraposto lo spazio quasi d'un'ora, un certo altro affermava lo stesso, dicendo: In verità, anche costui era con lui; perciocchè egli è Galileo.

60 Ma Pietro disse: O uomo, io non so quel che tu dici. E subito, parlando egli ancora, il gallo cantò.
61 E il Signore, rivoltosi, riguardò Pietro. E Pietro si rammentò la parola del Signore, come egli gli avea detto: Avanti che il gallo canti, tu mi rinnegherai tre volte.

62 E Pietro se ne uscì, e pianse amaramente.

Gesù davanti al Sinedrio

65 Molte altre cose ancora dicevano contro a lui, bestemmiando.
66 Poi, come fu giorno, gli anziani del popolo, i principali sacerdoti, e gli Scribi, si raunarono, e lo menarono nel lor concistoro.

67 E gli dissero: Sei tu il Cristo? diccelot.
Ed egli disse loro: Benchè io vel dica, voi nol crederete. 68 E se altresì io vi fo qualche domanda, voi non mi risponderete, e non mi lascerete andare.

69 Da ora innanzi il Figliuol dell'uomo sederà alla destra della potenza di Diot.
70 E tutti dissero: Sei tu adunque il Figliuol di Dio? Ed egli disse loro: Voi lo dite, perciocchè io lo sono. 71 Ed essi dissero: Che abbiam più bisogno di testimonianza? poichè noi stessi l'abbiamo udito dalla sua propria bocca.

Luke 22

Judas’ Decision to Betray Jesus

1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread,s which is called the Passover, was approaching.

2 Thet chief priests and the experts in the lawt were trying to find some wayt to executet Jesus,t for they were afraid of the people.s
3 Thent Satans entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve.t4 He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guardt how he mightt betray Jesus,t handing him over to them.t5 Theyt were delighteds and arranged to give him money.s

6 Sot Judast agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesust when no crowd was present.ts

The Passover

7 Then the day for the feastt of Unleavened Bread came, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.s8 Jesust sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passovers for us to eat.”t9 Theyt said to him, “Where do you want us to preparet it?”10 He said to them, “Listen,t when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of waters will meet you.s Follow him into the house that he enters,11 and tell the owner of the house,t ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’12 Then he will show you a large furnished room upstairs. Make preparations there.”

13 Sot they went and found thingst just as he had told them,s and they prepared the Passover.

The Lord’s Supper

14 Nowt when the hour came, Jesust took his place at the tablet and the apostles joinedt him.15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desiredt to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.16 For I tell you, I will not eat it againt until it is fulfilleds in the kingdom of God.”s17 Thent he took a cup,s and after giving thanks he said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves.18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruitt of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”s19 Thent he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my bodys which is given for you.s Do this in remembrance of me.”

20 And in the same way he tookt the cup after they had eaten,t saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenants in my blood.

A Final Discourse

21 “But look, the hand of the one who betrayss me is with me on the table.s22 For the Son of Man is to go just as it has been determined,s but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!”

23 Sot they began to question one another as to which of them it could possibly be who would do this.
24 A dispute also startedt among them over which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.t25 Sot Jesust said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’s26 Not so with you;t instead the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leadert like the one who serves.s

27 For who is greater, the one who is seated at the table,t or the one who serves? Is it nott the one who is seated at the table? But I am among you as ones who serves.
28 “You are the ones who have remainedt with me in my trials.29 Thust I grants to you a kingdom,t just as my Father granted to me,

30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sitt on thrones judgings the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 “Simon,s Simon, pay attention!t Satan has demanded to have you all,s to sift you like wheat,s32 but I have prayed for you, Simon,s that your faith may not fail.s Whent you have turned back,t strengthens your brothers.”33 But Petert said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!”s

34 Jesus replied,t “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crows today until you have denieds three times that you know me.”
35 Thent Jesust said to them, “When I sent you out with no money bag,t or traveler’s bag,t or sandals, you didn’t lacks anything, did you?” They replied,t “Nothing.”36 He said to them, “But now, the one whot has a money bag must take it, and likewise a traveler’s bagt too. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one.37 For I tell you that this scripture must bes fulfilled in me, ‘And he was counted with the transgressors.’ts For what is written about me is being fulfilled.”t

38 Sot they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.”s Then he told them, “It is enough.”s

On the Mount of Olives

39 Thent Jesust went out and made his way,t as he customarily did, to the Mount of Olives,s and the disciples followed him.40 When he came to the place,s he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”s41 He went away from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and prayed,42 “Father, if you are willing, taket this cups away from me. Yet not my will but yourss be done.”43 Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.44 And in his anguisht he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.]sss45 Whent he got up from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, exhaustedt from grief.

46 Sot he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not fall into temptation!”s

Betrayal and Arrest

47 While he was still speaking, suddenly a crowd appeared,t and the man named Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He walked upt to Jesus to kiss him.s48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”s49 Whent those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said, “Lord, shouldt we use our swords?”s50 Thent one of thems struck the high priest’s slave,t cutting off his right ear.51 But Jesus said,t “Enough of this!” And he touched the man’st ear and healeds him.52 Thent Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,t and the elders who had come out to get him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?t

53 Day after day when I was with you in the temple courts,t you did not arrest me.t But this is your hour,t and that of the powert of darkness!”

Jesus’ Condemnation and Peter’s Denials

54 Thent they arrestedt Jesus,t led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house.s But Peter was following at a distance.55 When they had made a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them.56 Then a slave girl,t seeing him as he sat in the firelight, stared at him and said, “This man was with him too!”57 But Petert denied it: “Woman,s I don’t knows him!”58 Thent a little later someone elses saw him and said, “You are one of them too.” But Peter said, “Man,t I am not!”59 And after about an hour still another insisted,t “Certainly this man was with him, because he too is a Galilean.”s60 But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” At that moment,t while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.t61 Thent the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord,t how he had said to him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”

62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.s
63 Nowt the men who were holding Jesust under guard began to mock him and beat him.64 Theyt blindfolded him and asked him repeatedly,t “Prophesy! Who hit you?”ts

65 They also said many other things against him, revilingt him.
66 When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law.t Thent they led Jesust away to their councils67 and said, “Ift you are the Christ,ts tell us.” But he said to them, “Ift I tell you, you will nott believe,68 and ift I ask you, you will nott answer.69 But from now onsthe Son of Man will be seated at the right hands of the powers of God.”70 Sot they all said, “Are you the Son of God,s then?” He answeredt them, “You says that I am.”

71 Thent they said, “Why do we need further testimony? We have heard it ourselvess from his own lips!”t
