Lucas 22

Judas acuerda traicionar a Jesús

1 Se aproximaba la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, llamada la Pascua. 2 Los jefes de los sacerdotes y los *maestros de la ley buscaban algún modo de acabar con Jesús, porque temían al pueblo. 3 Entonces entró Satanás en Judas, uno de los doce, al que llamaban Iscariote. 4 Éste fue a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a los capitanes del *templo para tratar con ellos cómo les entregaría a Jesús. 5 Ellos se alegraron y acordaron darle dinero. 6 Él aceptó, y comenzó a buscar una oportunidad para entregarles a Jesús cuando no hubiera gente.

La última cena

7 Cuando llegó el día de la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, en que debía sacrificarse el cordero de la Pascua, 8 Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciéndoles:
—Vayan a hacer los preparativos para que comamos la Pascua. 9 —¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos? —le preguntaron.
10 —Miren —contestó él—: al entrar ustedes en la ciudad les saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua. Síganlo hasta la casa en que entre, 11 y díganle al dueño de la casa: “El Maestro pregunta: ¿Dónde está la sala en la que voy a comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?” 12 Él les mostrará en la planta alta una sala amplia y amueblada. Preparen allí la cena.
13 Ellos se fueron y encontraron todo tal como les había dicho Jesús. Así que prepararon la Pascua.
14 Cuando llegó la hora, Jesús y sus apóstoles se *sentaron a la mesa. 15 Entonces les dijo:
—He tenido muchísimos deseos de comer esta Pascua con ustedes antes de padecer, 16 pues les digo que no volveré a comerla hasta que tenga su pleno cumplimiento en el reino de Dios.
17 Luego tomó la copa, dio gracias y dijo:
—Tomen esto y repártanlo entre ustedes. 18 Les digo que no volveré a beber del fruto de la vid hasta que venga el reino de Dios.
19 También tomó pan y, después de dar gracias, lo partió, se lo dio a ellos y dijo:
—Este pan es mi cuerpo, entregado por ustedes; hagan esto en memoria de mí. 20 De la misma manera tomó la copa después de la cena, y dijo:
—Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que es derramada por ustedes. 21 Pero sepan que la mano del que va a traicionarme está con la mía, sobre la mesa. 22 A la verdad el Hijo del hombre se irá según está decretado, pero ¡ay de aquel que lo traiciona!
23 Entonces comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros quién de ellos haría esto.
24 Tuvieron además un altercado sobre cuál de ellos sería el más importante. 25 Jesús les dijo:
—Los reyes de las *naciones oprimen a sus súbditos, y los que ejercen autoridad sobre ellos se llaman a sí mismos benefactores. 26 No sea así entre ustedes. Al contrario, el mayor debe comportarse como el menor, y el que manda como el que sirve. 27 Porque, ¿quién es más importante, el que está a la mesa o el que sirve? ¿No lo es el que está sentado a la mesa? Sin embargo, yo estoy entre ustedes como uno que sirve. 28 Ahora bien, ustedes son los que han estado siempre a mi lado en mis *pruebas. 29 Por eso, yo mismo les concedo un reino, así como mi Padre me lo concedió a mí, 30 para que coman y beban a mi mesa en mi reino, y se sienten en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.
31 »Simón, Simón, mira que Satanás ha pedido zarandearlos a ustedes como si fueran trigo. 32 Pero yo he orado por ti, para que no falle tu fe. Y tú, cuando te hayas vuelto a mí, fortalece a tus hermanos.
33 —Señor —respondió Pedro—, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo tanto a la cárcel como a la muerte.
34 —Pedro, te digo que hoy mismo, antes de que cante el gallo, tres veces negarás que me conoces.
35 Luego Jesús dijo a todos:
—Cuando los envié a ustedes sin monedero ni bolsa ni sandalias, ¿acaso les faltó algo? —Nada —respondieron. 36 —Ahora, en cambio, el que tenga un monedero, que lo lleve; así mismo, el que tenga una bolsa. Y el que nada tenga, que venda su manto y compre una espada. 37 Porque les digo que tiene que cumplirse en mí aquello que está escrito: “Y fue contado entre los transgresores.”s En efecto, lo que se ha escrito de mí se está cumpliendo.s
38 —Mira, Señor —le señalaron los discípulos—, aquí hay dos espadas.
—¡Basta! —les contestó.

Jesús ora en el monte de los Olivos

39 Jesús salió de la ciudad y, como de costumbre, se dirigió al monte de los Olivos, y sus discípulos lo siguieron. 40 Cuando llegaron al lugar, les dijo: «Oren para que no caigan en *tentación.» 41 Entonces se separó de ellos a una buena distancia,s se arrodilló y empezó a orar: 42 «Padre, si quieres, no me hagas beber este trago amargo;s pero no se cumpla mi voluntad, sino la tuya.» 43 Entonces se le apareció un ángel del cielo para fortalecerlo. 44 Pero, como estaba angustiado, se puso a orar con más fervor, y su sudor era como gotas de sangre que caían a tierra.s
45 Cuando terminó de orar y volvió a los discípulos, los encontró dormidos, agotados por la tristeza. 46 «¿Por qué están durmiendo? —les exhortó—. Levántense y oren para que no caigan en tentación.»

Arresto de Jesús

47 Todavía estaba hablando Jesús cuando se apareció una turba, y al frente iba uno de los doce, el que se llamaba Judas. Éste se acercó a Jesús para besarlo, 48 pero Jesús le preguntó:
—Judas, ¿con un beso traicionas al Hijo del hombre? 49 Los discípulos que lo rodeaban, al darse cuenta de lo que pasaba, dijeron:
—Señor, ¿atacamos con la espada? 50 Y uno de ellos hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, cortándole la oreja derecha.
51 —¡Déjenlos! —ordenó Jesús.
Entonces le tocó la oreja al hombre, y lo sanó. 52 Luego dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los capitanes del *templo y a los *ancianos, que habían venido a prenderlo:
—¿Acaso soy un bandido,s para que vengan contra mí con espadas y palos? 53 Todos los días estaba con ustedes en el templo, y no se atrevieron a ponerme las manos encima. Pero ya ha llegado la hora de ustedes, cuando reinan las tinieblas.

Pedro niega a Jesús

54 Prendieron entonces a Jesús y lo llevaron a la casa del sumo sacerdote. Pedro los seguía de lejos. 55 Pero luego, cuando encendieron una fogata en medio del patio y se sentaron alrededor, Pedro se les unió. 56 Una criada lo vio allí sentado a la lumbre, lo miró detenidamente y dijo:
—Éste estaba con él. 57 Pero él lo negó.
—Muchacha, yo no lo conozco. 58 Poco después lo vio otro y afirmó:
—Tú también eres uno de ellos. —¡No, hombre, no lo soy! —contestó Pedro. 59 Como una hora más tarde, otro lo acusó:
—Seguro que éste estaba con él; miren que es galileo. 60 —¡Hombre, no sé de qué estás hablando! —replicó Pedro.
En el mismo momento en que dijo eso, cantó el gallo. 61 El Señor se volvió y miró directamente a Pedro. Entonces Pedro se acordó de lo que el Señor le había dicho: «Hoy mismo, antes de que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.» 62 Y saliendo de allí, lloró amargamente.

Los soldados se burlan de Jesús

63 Los hombres que vigilaban a Jesús comenzaron a burlarse de él y a golpearlo. 64 Le vendaron los ojos, y le increpaban:
—¡Adivina quién te pegó! 65 Y le lanzaban muchos otros insultos.

Jesús ante Pilato y Herodes

66 Al amanecer, se reunieron los *ancianos del pueblo, tanto los jefes de los sacerdotes como los *maestros de la ley, e hicieron comparecer a Jesús ante el *Consejo.
67 —Si eres el *Cristo, dínoslo —le exigieron.
Jesús les contestó: —Si se lo dijera a ustedes, no me lo creerían, 68 y si les hiciera preguntas, no me contestarían. 69 Pero de ahora en adelante el Hijo del hombre estará sentado a la *derecha del Dios Todopoderoso.
70 —¿Eres tú, entonces, el Hijo de Dios? —le preguntaron a una voz.
—Ustedes mismos lo dicen. 71 —¿Para qué necesitamos más testimonios? —resolvieron—. Acabamos de oírlo de sus propios labios.

LUKE 22

A Plot To Kill Jesus

(Matthew 26.1-5,14,16; Mark 14.1,2,10,11; John 11.45-53)

1  t The Festival of Thin Bread, also called Passover, was near. 2 The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus, because they were afraid of what the people might do.

3 Then Satan entered the heart of Judas Iscariot, t who was one of the twelve apostles.
4 Judas went to talk with the chief priests and the officers of the temple police about how he could help them arrest Jesus. 5 They were very pleased and offered to pay Judas some money.

6 He agreed and started looking for a good chance to betray Jesus when the crowds were not around.

Jesus Eats with His Disciples

(Matthew 26.17-25; Mark 14.12-21; John 13.21-30)

8 So Jesus said to Peter and John, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat.”

9 But they asked, “Where do you want us to prepare it?”
10 Jesus told them, “As you go into the city, you will meet a man carrying a jar of water.t Follow him into the house 11 and say to the owner, ‘Our teacher wants to know where he can eat the Passover meal with his disciples.’

12 The owner will take you upstairs and show you a large room ready for you to use. Prepare the meal there.”

13 Peter and John left. They found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover meal.

The Lord's Supper

(Matthew 26.26-30; Mark 14.22-26; 1 Corinthians 11.23-25)

16 I tell you I will not eat another Passover meal until it is finally eaten in God's kingdom.”
17 Jesus took a cup of wine in his hands and gave thanks to God. Then he told the apostles, “Take this wine and share it with each other.

18 I tell you that I will not drink any more wine until God's kingdom comes.”

19 Jesus took some bread in his hands and gave thanks for it. He broke the bread and handed it to his apostles. Then he said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Eat this as a way of remembering me!”
20  t After the meal he took another cup of wine in his hands. Then he said, “This is my blood. It is poured out for you, and with it God makes his new agreement. 21 t The one who will betray me is here at the table with me!

22 The Son of Man will die in the way that has been decided for him, but it will be terrible for the one who betrays him!”

23 Then the apostles started arguing about who would ever do such a thing.

An Argument about Greatness

25 t So Jesus told them:
Foreign kings order their people around, and powerful rulers call themselves everyone's friends.t 26 t But don't be like them. The most important one of you should be like the least important, and your leader should be like a servant.

27 t Who do people think is the greatest, a person who is served or one who serves? Isn't it the one who is served? But I have been with you as a servant.
28 You have stayed with me in all my troubles. 29 So I will give you the right to rule as kings, just as my Father has given me the right to rule as a king.

30 t You will eat and drink with me in my kingdom, and you will each sit on a throne to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus' Disciples //Will Be Tested

(Matthew 26.31-35; Mark 14.27-31; John 13.36-38)

32 But Simon, I have prayed that your faith will be strong. And when you have come back to me, help the others.”

33 Peter said, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to jail and even to die with you.”

34 Jesus replied, “Peter, I tell you that before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me.”

Moneybags, Traveling Bags, //and Swords

35  t Jesus asked his disciples, “When I sent you out without a moneybag or a traveling bag or sandals, did you need anything?”
“No!” they answered.
36 Jesus told them, “But now, if you have a moneybag, take it with you. Also take a traveling bag, and if you don't have a sword, t sell some of your clothes and buy one.

37 t Do this because the Scriptures say, ‘He was considered a criminal.’ This was written about me, and it will soon come true.”

38 The disciples said, “Lord, here are two swords!”
“Enough of that!” Jesus replied.

Jesus Prays

(Matthew 26.36-46; Mark 14.32-42)

40 When they got there, he told them, “Pray that you won't be tested.”
41 Jesus walked on a little way before he knelt down and prayed,

42 “Father, if you will, please don't make me suffer by drinking from this cup.t But do what you want, and not what I want.”
43 Then an angel from heaven came to help him.

44 Jesus was in great pain and prayed so sincerely that his sweat fell to the ground like drops of blood.t
45 Jesus got up from praying and went over to his disciples. They were asleep and worn out from being so sad.

46 He said to them, “Why are you asleep? Wake up and pray that you won't be tested.”

Jesus Is Arrested

(Matthew 26.47-56; Mark 14.43-50; John 18.3-11)

47 While Jesus was still speaking, a crowd came up. It was led by Judas, one of the twelve apostles. He went over to Jesus and greeted him with a kiss.t

48 Jesus asked Judas, “Are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus' disciples saw what was about to happen, they asked, “Lord, should we attack them with a sword?”

50 One of the disciples even struck at the high priest's servant with his sword and cut off the servant's right ear.

51 “Enough of that!” Jesus said. Then he touched the servant's ear and healed it.
52 Jesus spoke to the chief priests, the temple police, and the leaders who had come to arrest him. He said, “Why do you come out with swords and clubs and treat me like a criminal?

53 t I was with you every day in the temple, and you didn't arrest me. But this is your time, and darknesst is in control.”

Peter Says //He Doesn't Know Jesus

(Matthew 26.57,58,67-75; Mark 14.53,54,66-72; John 18.12-18,25-27)

56 and a servant girl saw him. Then after she had looked at him carefully, she said, “This man was with Jesus!”

57 Peter said, “Woman, I don't even know that man!”

58 A little later someone else saw Peter and said, “You are one of them!”
“No, I'm not!” Peter replied.

59 About an hour later another man insisted, “This man must have been with Jesus. They both come from Galilee.”

60 Peter replied, “I don't know what you are talking about!” Right then, while Peter was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61 The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered that the Lord had said, “Before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me.”

62 Then Peter went out and cried bitterly.
63 The men who were guarding Jesus made fun of him and beat him. 64 They put a blindfold on him and said, “Tell us who struck you!”

65 They kept on insulting Jesus in many other ways.

Jesus Is Questioned //by the Council

(Matthew 26.59-66; Mark 14.55-64; John 18.19-24)

67 They said, “Tell us! Are you the Messiah?”
Jesus replied, “If I said so, you wouldn't believe me. 68 And if I asked you a question, you wouldn't answer.

69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right side of God All-Powerful.”

70 Then they asked, “Are you the Son of God?”t
Jesus answered, “You say I am!”t
71 They replied, “Why do we need more witnesses? He said it himself!”
