Lucas 22

El complot para matar a Jesús

1 Se acercaba la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, que se llama la pascua.t2 Los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban la manera de matar a Jesús, pero le tenían miedo al pueblo.

3 Entonces Satanás entró en Judas, uno de los doce, al que llamaban Iscariote,4 y éste fue a hablar con los principales sacerdotes y con los jefes de la guardia, para acordar con ellos cómo les entregaría a Jesús.5 Ellos se alegraron, y acordaron darle dinero.6 Judas aceptó y comenzó a buscar el mejor momento de entregarles a Jesús sin que el pueblo lo supiera.

Institución de la Cena del Señor

7 Llegó el día de los panes sin levadura, cuando es necesario sacrificar el cordero de la pascua.8 Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan con estas instrucciones: «Vayan a preparar todo para que comamos la pascua.»9 Ellos le preguntaron: «¿Dónde quieres que hagamos los preparativos?»10 Jesús les dijo: «Al entrar en la ciudad, verán ustedes a un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; síganlo hasta la casa donde entre,11 y díganle al dueño de la casa: “El Maestro pregunta dónde está el aposento en donde comerá la pascua con sus discípulos.”12 Entonces él les mostrará un gran aposento alto, ya dispuesto. Hagan allí los preparativos.»13 Los discípulos partieron, y encontraron todo tal y como Jesús se lo había dicho, y prepararon la pascua.

14 Cuando llegó la hora, Jesús se sentó a la mesa, y los apóstoles se sentaron con él.15 Entonces les dijo: «¡Cómo he deseado comer con ustedes esta pascua, antes de que padezca!16 Porque yo les digo que no volveré a comerla hasta su cumplimiento en el reino de Dios.»17 Y Jesús tomó la copa, dio gracias y dijo: «Tomen esto, y repártanlo entre ustedes;18 porque yo les digo que no volveré a beber del fruto de la vid hasta que venga el reino de Dios.»19 Luego tomó el pan, lo partió, dio gracias y les dio, al tiempo que decía: «Esto es mi cuerpo, que por ustedes es entregado; hagan esto en memoria de mí.»20 De igual manera, después de haber cenado tomó la copa y les dijo: «Esta copa es el nuevo pactot en mi sangre,t que por ustedes va a ser derramada.21 Pero sepan que la mano del que me va a traicionar está sobre esta mesa, conmigo.22 A decir verdad, el Hijo del Hombre va, según lo que está determinado;t pero ¡ay de aquél que lo va a traicionar!»23 Ellos comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros, quién de ellos sería capaz de hacer esto.

La grandeza en el servicio

24 Además, los discípulos tuvieron una discusión en cuanto a quién de ellos sería el mayor.t25 Pero Jesús les dijo: «Los reyes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y los que tienen autoridad sobre ellas son llamados benefactores;26 pero entre ustedes no debe ser así,t sino que el mayor entre ustedes tiene que hacerse como el menor; y el que manda tiene que actuar como el que sirve.t27 Porque, ¿quién es mayor? ¿El que se sienta a la mesa, o el que sirve? ¿Acaso no es el que se sienta a la mesa? Sin embargo, yo estoy entre ustedes como el que sirve.t

28 »Pero son ustedes los que han permanecido conmigo en mis pruebas.29 Por tanto, yo les asigno un reino, así como mi Padre me lo asignó a mí,30 para que en mi reino coman y beban a mi mesa, y se sienten en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.»t

Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

31 El Señor dijo también: «Simón, Simón, Satanás ha pedido sacudirlos a ustedes como si fueran trigo;32 pero yo he rogado por ti, para que no te falte la fe. Y tú, cuando hayas vuelto, deberás confirmar a tus hermanos.»33 Pedro le dijo: «Señor, no sólo estoy dispuesto a ir contigo a la cárcel, sino también a la muerte.»34 Y Jesús le dijo: «Pedro, te aseguro que el gallo no cantará hoy antes de que tú hayas negado tres veces que me conoces.»

Bolsa, alforja y espada

35 Luego Jesús les preguntó: «Cuando los envié sin bolsa, sin alforja y sin calzado,t ¿les faltó algo?» Ellos respondieron: «Nada.»36 Entonces Jesús les dijo: «Pues ahora, el que tenga bolsa, que la tome, junto con la alforja. Y el que no tenga espada, que venda su capa y se compre una.37 Porque yo les digo que todavía se tiene que cumplir en mí aquello que está escrito: “Y fue contado entre los pecadores”.t Porque lo que está escrito acerca de mí, tiene que cumplirse.»38 Ellos le dijeron: «Señor, ¡aquí hay dos espadas!» Y Jesús respondió: «¡Basta!»

Jesús ora en Getsemaní

39 Jesús salió y, conforme a su costumbre, se fue al monte de los Olivos. Sus discípulos lo siguieron.40 Cuando llegó a ese lugar, Jesús les dijo: «Oren para que no caigan en tentación.»41 Luego, se apartó de ellos a una distancia como de un tiro de piedra, y allí se arrodilló y oró.42 Y decía: «Padre, si quieres, haz que pase de mí esta copa; pero que no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.»43 [Se le apareció entonces un ángel del cielo, para fortalecerlo.44 Lleno de angustia, oraba con más intensidad. Y era su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre que caían hasta la tierra.]t45 Cuando Jesús se levantó después de orar, fue a donde estaban sus discípulos, y a causa de la tristeza los halló durmiendo.46 Les dijo: «¿Por qué duermen? ¡Levántense y oren para que no caigan en tentación!»

Arresto de Jesús

47 Mientras Jesús estaba hablando, se hizo presente una turba, al frente de la cual iba Judas, que era uno de los doce y que se acercó a Jesús para besarlo.48 Jesús le dijo: «Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del Hombre?»49 Cuando los que estaban con él se dieron cuenta de lo que pasaba, le dijeron: «Señor, ¿echamos mano a la espada?»50 Uno de ellos hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha.51 Pero Jesús les dijo: «¡Basta! ¡Déjenlos!» Tocó entonces la oreja de aquel hombre, y lo sanó.52 Luego, Jesús les dijo a los principales sacerdotes, a los jefes de la guardia del templo y a los ancianos, que habían venido contra él: «¿Han venido con espadas y palos, como si fuera yo un ladrón?53 Todos los días he estado con ustedes en el templo, y no me pusieron las manos encima. Pero ésta es la hora de ustedes, la hora del poder de las tinieblas.»

Pedro niega a Jesús

54 Aquellos arrestaron a Jesús y lo llevaron a la casa del sumo sacerdote. Pedro lo seguía de lejos.55 En medio del patio encendieron una fogata, y se sentaron alrededor de ella. También Pedro se sentó entre ellos.56 Pero una criada que lo vio sentado frente al fuego, se fijó en él y dijo: «Éste también estaba con él.»57 Pedro lo negó, y dijo: «Mujer, yo no lo conozco.»58 Un poco después, otro lo vio y le dijo: «Tú también eres de ellos.» Pero Pedro le dijo: «¡Hombre, no lo soy!»59 Como una hora después, otro afirmó: «No hay duda. Éste también estaba con él, porque es galileo.»60 Pedro le dijo: «¡Hombre, no sé de qué hablas!» Y en ese momento, mientras Pedro aún hablaba, el gallo cantó.61 En ese mismo instante el Señor se volvió a ver a Pedro, y entonces Pedro se acordó de las palabras del Señor, cuando le dijo: «Antes de que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.»62 Enseguida, Pedro salió de allí y lloró amargamente.

Jesús escarnecido y azotado

63 Los hombres que custodiaban a Jesús se burlaban de él y lo golpeaban.64 También le vendaron los ojos, le golpearon el rostro, y le decían: «Profetiza, ¿quién es el que te golpeó?»65 Y lo insultaban y le decían muchas otras cosas.

Jesús ante el tribunal

66 Cuando se hizo de día, se juntaron los ancianos del pueblo, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y llevaron a Jesús ante el tribunal y le preguntaron:67 «¿Eres tú el Cristo? ¡Responde!» Él les dijo: «Si les dijera que sí, no me lo creerían.68 Y si les hiciera preguntas, no me responderían ni me soltarían.69 Pero a partir de este momento el Hijo del Hombre se sentará a la derecha del poder de Dios.»70 Todos dijeron: «¿Así que tú eres el Hijo de Dios?» Él les respondió: «Ustedes dicen que lo soy.»71 Entonces ellos dijeron: «¿Qué más pruebas necesitamos? ¡Nosotros mismos las hemos oído de sus propios labios!»

LUKE 22

A Plot To Kill Jesus

(Matthew 26.1-5,14,16; Mark 14.1,2,10,11; John 11.45-53)

1  t The Festival of Thin Bread, also called Passover, was near. 2 The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus, because they were afraid of what the people might do.

3 Then Satan entered the heart of Judas Iscariot, t who was one of the twelve apostles.
4 Judas went to talk with the chief priests and the officers of the temple police about how he could help them arrest Jesus. 5 They were very pleased and offered to pay Judas some money.

6 He agreed and started looking for a good chance to betray Jesus when the crowds were not around.

Jesus Eats with His Disciples

(Matthew 26.17-25; Mark 14.12-21; John 13.21-30)

8 So Jesus said to Peter and John, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat.”

9 But they asked, “Where do you want us to prepare it?”
10 Jesus told them, “As you go into the city, you will meet a man carrying a jar of water.t Follow him into the house 11 and say to the owner, ‘Our teacher wants to know where he can eat the Passover meal with his disciples.’

12 The owner will take you upstairs and show you a large room ready for you to use. Prepare the meal there.”

13 Peter and John left. They found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover meal.

The Lord's Supper

(Matthew 26.26-30; Mark 14.22-26; 1 Corinthians 11.23-25)

16 I tell you I will not eat another Passover meal until it is finally eaten in God's kingdom.”
17 Jesus took a cup of wine in his hands and gave thanks to God. Then he told the apostles, “Take this wine and share it with each other.

18 I tell you that I will not drink any more wine until God's kingdom comes.”

19 Jesus took some bread in his hands and gave thanks for it. He broke the bread and handed it to his apostles. Then he said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Eat this as a way of remembering me!”
20  t After the meal he took another cup of wine in his hands. Then he said, “This is my blood. It is poured out for you, and with it God makes his new agreement. 21 t The one who will betray me is here at the table with me!

22 The Son of Man will die in the way that has been decided for him, but it will be terrible for the one who betrays him!”

23 Then the apostles started arguing about who would ever do such a thing.

An Argument about Greatness

25 t So Jesus told them:
Foreign kings order their people around, and powerful rulers call themselves everyone's friends.t 26 t But don't be like them. The most important one of you should be like the least important, and your leader should be like a servant.

27 t Who do people think is the greatest, a person who is served or one who serves? Isn't it the one who is served? But I have been with you as a servant.
28 You have stayed with me in all my troubles. 29 So I will give you the right to rule as kings, just as my Father has given me the right to rule as a king.

30 t You will eat and drink with me in my kingdom, and you will each sit on a throne to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus' Disciples //Will Be Tested

(Matthew 26.31-35; Mark 14.27-31; John 13.36-38)

32 But Simon, I have prayed that your faith will be strong. And when you have come back to me, help the others.”

33 Peter said, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to jail and even to die with you.”

34 Jesus replied, “Peter, I tell you that before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me.”

Moneybags, Traveling Bags, //and Swords

35  t Jesus asked his disciples, “When I sent you out without a moneybag or a traveling bag or sandals, did you need anything?”
“No!” they answered.
36 Jesus told them, “But now, if you have a moneybag, take it with you. Also take a traveling bag, and if you don't have a sword, t sell some of your clothes and buy one.

37 t Do this because the Scriptures say, ‘He was considered a criminal.’ This was written about me, and it will soon come true.”

38 The disciples said, “Lord, here are two swords!”
“Enough of that!” Jesus replied.

Jesus Prays

(Matthew 26.36-46; Mark 14.32-42)

40 When they got there, he told them, “Pray that you won't be tested.”
41 Jesus walked on a little way before he knelt down and prayed,

42 “Father, if you will, please don't make me suffer by drinking from this cup.t But do what you want, and not what I want.”
43 Then an angel from heaven came to help him.

44 Jesus was in great pain and prayed so sincerely that his sweat fell to the ground like drops of blood.t
45 Jesus got up from praying and went over to his disciples. They were asleep and worn out from being so sad.

46 He said to them, “Why are you asleep? Wake up and pray that you won't be tested.”

Jesus Is Arrested

(Matthew 26.47-56; Mark 14.43-50; John 18.3-11)

47 While Jesus was still speaking, a crowd came up. It was led by Judas, one of the twelve apostles. He went over to Jesus and greeted him with a kiss.t

48 Jesus asked Judas, “Are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus' disciples saw what was about to happen, they asked, “Lord, should we attack them with a sword?”

50 One of the disciples even struck at the high priest's servant with his sword and cut off the servant's right ear.

51 “Enough of that!” Jesus said. Then he touched the servant's ear and healed it.
52 Jesus spoke to the chief priests, the temple police, and the leaders who had come to arrest him. He said, “Why do you come out with swords and clubs and treat me like a criminal?

53 t I was with you every day in the temple, and you didn't arrest me. But this is your time, and darknesst is in control.”

Peter Says //He Doesn't Know Jesus

(Matthew 26.57,58,67-75; Mark 14.53,54,66-72; John 18.12-18,25-27)

56 and a servant girl saw him. Then after she had looked at him carefully, she said, “This man was with Jesus!”

57 Peter said, “Woman, I don't even know that man!”

58 A little later someone else saw Peter and said, “You are one of them!”
“No, I'm not!” Peter replied.

59 About an hour later another man insisted, “This man must have been with Jesus. They both come from Galilee.”

60 Peter replied, “I don't know what you are talking about!” Right then, while Peter was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61 The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered that the Lord had said, “Before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me.”

62 Then Peter went out and cried bitterly.
63 The men who were guarding Jesus made fun of him and beat him. 64 They put a blindfold on him and said, “Tell us who struck you!”

65 They kept on insulting Jesus in many other ways.

Jesus Is Questioned //by the Council

(Matthew 26.59-66; Mark 14.55-64; John 18.19-24)

67 They said, “Tell us! Are you the Messiah?”
Jesus replied, “If I said so, you wouldn't believe me. 68 And if I asked you a question, you wouldn't answer.

69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right side of God All-Powerful.”

70 Then they asked, “Are you the Son of God?”t
Jesus answered, “You say I am!”t
71 They replied, “Why do we need more witnesses? He said it himself!”
