Planer på att döda Jesus
1 Nu närmade sig det osyrade brödets högtid, som kallas påsk.
2 Översteprästerna och de skriftlärda sökte efter bästa sättet att röja honom ur vägen — de var rädda för folket.
3 Men Satan for in i Judas, som kallades Iskariot och som var en av de tolv. 4 Han gick till översteprästerna och officerarna i tempelvakten och talade med dem om hur han skulle kunna utlämna Jesus åt dem. 5 De blev glada och erbjöd honom pengar.
6 Han gick med på deras anbud och sökte ett tillfälle att utlämna honom utan att folket var med.Påskmåltiden förbereds
7 Så kom det osyrade brödets dag, då påsklammen skulle slaktas. 8 Och Jesus sände i väg Petrus och Johannes och sade: ”Gå och gör i ordning påskmåltiden åt oss.” 9 De frågade var de skulle göra det. 10 Han svarade: ”När ni kommer in i staden möter ni en man som bär på en vattenkruka. Följ efter honom till det hus som han går in i 11 och säg till den som äger huset: Mästaren frågar var salen är där han kan äta påskmåltiden med sina lärjungar. 12 Då visar han er till ett stort rum i övervåningen som står färdigt. Där skall ni göra i ordning måltiden.”
13 De gick och fann att allt var som han hade sagt, och de ordnade för påskmåltiden.Den sista måltiden. Jesus utpekar förrädaren
14 När stunden var inne lade han sig till bords tillsammans med apostlarna. 15 Han sade till dem: ”Hur har jag inte längtat efter att få äta denna påskmåltid med er innan mitt lidande börjar. 16 Jag säger er: jag kommer inte att äta den igen förrän den får sin fullkomning i Guds rike.” 17 Man räckte honom en bägare, och han tackade Gud och sade: ”Ta detta och dela det mellan er. 18 Jag säger er: från denna stund skall jag inte dricka av det som vinstocken ger förrän Guds rike har kommit.” 19 Sedan tog han ett bröd, tackade Gud, bröt det och gav åt dem och sade: ”Detta är min kropp som blir offrad för er. Gör detta till minne av mig.” 20 Efter måltiden tog han på samma sätt bägaren och sade: ”Denna bägare är det nya förbundet genom mitt blod, som blir utgjutet för er. 21 Dock, den som förråder mig har sin hand här på bordet tillsammans med mig. 22 Människosonen går den väg som är bestämd, men ve den människa genom vilken han blir förrådd!”
23 Då började de fråga varandra vem av dem det var som skulle göra detta.Vem är störst bland lärjungarna?
24 Sedan kom de att tvista om vilken av dem som skulle anses vara den störste. 25 Då sade han till dem: ”Kungarna uppträder som herrar över sina folk, och de som har makten låter kalla sig folkets välgörare. 26 Men med er är det annorlunda: den störste bland er skall vara som den yngste, och den som är ledare skall vara som tjänaren. 27 Vem är störst, den som ligger till bords eller den som betjänar honom? Är det inte den som ligger till bords? Men jag är mitt ibland er som er tjänare. 28 Ni är de som har stannat kvar hos mig under mina prövningar, 29 och samma kungavärdighet som min fader har tilldelat mig tilldelar jag er.
30 Ni skall få äta och dricka vid mitt bord i mitt rike, och ni skall sitta på troner och döma Israels tolv stammar.Jesus förutsäger Petrus förnekelse
31 Simon, Simon. Satan har utverkat åt sig att få sålla er som vete. 32 Men jag har bett för dig att din tro inte skall ta slut. Och när du en gång har vänt tillbaka, så styrk dina bröder.” 33 Simon sade: ”Med dig, herre, är jag beredd att gå både i fängelse och i döden.”
34 Han svarade: ”Jag säger dig, Petrus: tuppen skall inte gala i natt förrän du tre gånger har förnekat att du känner mig.”Lärjungarnas två svärd
35 Sedan sade han till dem: ”När jag sände ut er utan penningpung, påse eller sandaler, behövde ni då sakna något?” — ”Nej, ingenting”, svarade de. 36 Då sade han: ”Men nu skall den som har en penningpung ta med sig den, och likaså påsen, och den som är utan pengar skall sälja sin mantel och köpa sig ett svärd. 37 Jag säger er att med mig skall det ord i skriften gå i uppfyllelse som lyder: Han räknades till de laglösa. Ty nu fullbordas det som är sagt om mig.” —
38 ”Herre”, sade de, ”här är två svärd.” — ”Det är bra”, svarade han.Jesus i Getsemane
39 Sedan gick han ut ur staden och begav sig som vanligt till Olivberget, och lärjungarna följde med. 40 När han kom dit sade han till dem: ”Be att ni inte utsätts för prövning.” 41 Själv drog han sig undan ifrån dem, ungefär ett stenkast, föll på knä och bad: 42 ”Fader, om du vill det, så ta bort denna bägare från mig. Men låt din vilja ske, inte min.” 43 En ängel från himlen visade sig för honom och gav honom kraft. 44 I sin ångest bad han allt ivrigare, och svetten droppade som blod ner på marken. 45 När han steg upp från bönen och kom tillbaka till lärjungarna fann han att de hade somnat, tyngda av sorg,
46 och han sade till dem: ”Hur kan ni sova! Stig upp och be att ni inte utsätts för prövning.”Jesus fängslas
47 Medan han ännu talade kom det en stor skara människor. Han som hette Judas, en av de tolv, visade vägen, och han gick fram till Jesus för att kyssa honom. 48 Jesus sade till honom: ”Judas, förråder du Människosonen med en kyss?” 49 När de som var med Jesus såg vad som skulle hända sade de: ”Herre, skall vi ta till våra svärd?” 50 Och en av dem slog till mot översteprästens tjänare och högg av honom högra örat. 51 Men då sade Jesus: ”Nu räcker det.” Och han rörde vid mannens öra och läkte honom. 52 Sedan sade Jesus till de överstepräster och officerare vid tempelvakten och äldste som hade kommit dit för att gripa honom: ”Som mot en rövare har ni gått ut med svärd och påkar.
53 Dag efter dag var jag hos er i templet, och ni lyfte inte er hand mot mig. Men detta är er stund, nu har mörkret makten.”Petrus förnekar Jesus
54 De grep honom och förde honom till översteprästens hus. Petrus följde efter på avstånd. 55 De gjorde upp en eld mitt på gården och slog sig ner omkring den, och Petrus satte sig mitt ibland dem. 56 En tjänsteflicka fick se honom där han satt i eldskenet, och hon såg noga på honom och sade: ”Den där mannen var också med honom.” 57 Men Petrus förnekade det: ”Nej, jag känner honom inte.” 58 Strax efteråt fick en annan syn på honom och sade: ”Du hör också till dem.” Petrus sade: ”Nej, det gör jag inte.” 59 En timme senare var det någon som försäkrade: ”Visst var den där också med honom, och han är ju från Galileen.” 60 Men Petrus sade: ”Jag förstår inte vad du menar.” Och just som han sade det gol en tupp. 61 Då vände sig Herren om och såg på Petrus, och Petrus kom ihåg detta som Herren hade sagt till honom: ”Innan tuppen gal i natt har du förnekat mig tre gånger”,
62 och han gick ut och grät bittert.Vakterna hånar Jesus
63 Männen som bevakade Jesus slog honom och gjorde narr av honom. 64 De band för ögonen på honom och sade: ”Visa nu att du är profet. Vem var det som slog dig?”
65 Och de öste glåpord över honom.Förhöret inför rådet
66 När det blev dag samlades folkets äldste, både överstepräster och skriftlärda. Han fördes in till rådet 67 och de frågade: ”Är du Messias, så säg oss det.” Han svarade: ”Om jag säger det kommer ni inte att tro det, 68 och om jag börjar fråga kommer ni inte att svara. 69 Men härefter skall Människosonen sitta på den gudomliga maktens högra sida .” 70 Då sade de allesammans: ”Du är alltså Guds son?” Han svarade: ”Ni själva säger att jag är det.” 71 Då sade de: ”Behöver vi fler vittnesmål? Vi har ju hört det ur hans egen mun.”

A Plot To Kill Jesus
(Matthew 26.1-5,14,16; Mark 14.1,2,10,11; John 11.45-53)
1 t The Festival of Thin Bread, also called Passover, was near. 2 The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus, because they were afraid of what the people might do.
3 Then Satan entered the heart of Judas Iscariot, t who was one of the twelve apostles.
4 Judas went to talk with the chief priests and the officers of the temple police about how he could help them arrest Jesus. 5 They were very pleased and offered to pay Judas some money.
6 He agreed and started looking for a good chance to betray Jesus when the crowds were not around.Jesus Eats with His Disciples
(Matthew 26.17-25; Mark 14.12-21; John 13.21-30)
7 The day had come for the Festival of Thin Bread, and it was time to kill the Passover lambs.
8 So Jesus said to Peter and John, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat.”
9 But they asked, “Where do you want us to prepare it?”
10 Jesus told them, “As you go into the city, you will meet a man carrying a jar of water.t Follow him into the house 11 and say to the owner, ‘Our teacher wants to know where he can eat the Passover meal with his disciples.’
12 The owner will take you upstairs and show you a large room ready for you to use. Prepare the meal there.”
13 Peter and John left. They found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover meal.The Lord's Supper
(Matthew 26.26-30; Mark 14.22-26; 1 Corinthians 11.23-25)
14 When the time came for Jesus and the apostles to eat, 15 he said to them, “I have very much wanted to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer.
16 I tell you I will not eat another Passover meal until it is finally eaten in God's kingdom.”
17 Jesus took a cup of wine in his hands and gave thanks to God. Then he told the apostles, “Take this wine and share it with each other.
18 I tell you that I will not drink any more wine until God's kingdom comes.”
19 Jesus took some bread in his hands and gave thanks for it. He broke the bread and handed it to his apostles. Then he said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Eat this as a way of remembering me!”
20 t After the meal he took another cup of wine in his hands. Then he said, “This is my blood. It is poured out for you, and with it God makes his new agreement. 21 t The one who will betray me is here at the table with me!
22 The Son of Man will die in the way that has been decided for him, but it will be terrible for the one who betrays him!”
23 Then the apostles started arguing about who would ever do such a thing.An Argument about Greatness
24 t The apostles got into an argument about which one of them was the greatest.
25 t So Jesus told them:
Foreign kings order their people around, and powerful rulers call themselves everyone's friends.t 26 t But don't be like them. The most important one of you should be like the least important, and your leader should be like a servant.
27 t Who do people think is the greatest, a person who is served or one who serves? Isn't it the one who is served? But I have been with you as a servant.
28 You have stayed with me in all my troubles. 29 So I will give you the right to rule as kings, just as my Father has given me the right to rule as a king.
30 t You will eat and drink with me in my kingdom, and you will each sit on a throne to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.Jesus' Disciples //Will Be Tested
(Matthew 26.31-35; Mark 14.27-31; John 13.36-38)
31 Jesus said, “Simon, listen to me! Satan has demanded the right to test each one of you, as a farmer does when he separates wheat from the husks.t
32 But Simon, I have prayed that your faith will be strong. And when you have come back to me, help the others.”
33 Peter said, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to jail and even to die with you.”
34 Jesus replied, “Peter, I tell you that before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me.”Moneybags, Traveling Bags, //and Swords
35 t Jesus asked his disciples, “When I sent you out without a moneybag or a traveling bag or sandals, did you need anything?”
“No!” they answered.
36 Jesus told them, “But now, if you have a moneybag, take it with you. Also take a traveling bag, and if you don't have a sword, t sell some of your clothes and buy one.
37 t Do this because the Scriptures say, ‘He was considered a criminal.’ This was written about me, and it will soon come true.”
38 The disciples said, “Lord, here are two swords!”
“Enough of that!” Jesus replied.Jesus Prays
(Matthew 26.36-46; Mark 14.32-42)
39 Jesus went out to the Mount of Olives, as he often did, and his disciples went with him.
40 When they got there, he told them, “Pray that you won't be tested.”
41 Jesus walked on a little way before he knelt down and prayed,
42 “Father, if you will, please don't make me suffer by drinking from this cup.t But do what you want, and not what I want.”
43 Then an angel from heaven came to help him.
44 Jesus was in great pain and prayed so sincerely that his sweat fell to the ground like drops of blood.t
45 Jesus got up from praying and went over to his disciples. They were asleep and worn out from being so sad.
46 He said to them, “Why are you asleep? Wake up and pray that you won't be tested.”Jesus Is Arrested
(Matthew 26.47-56; Mark 14.43-50; John 18.3-11)
47 While Jesus was still speaking, a crowd came up. It was led by Judas, one of the twelve apostles. He went over to Jesus and greeted him with a kiss.t
48 Jesus asked Judas, “Are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus' disciples saw what was about to happen, they asked, “Lord, should we attack them with a sword?”
50 One of the disciples even struck at the high priest's servant with his sword and cut off the servant's right ear.
51 “Enough of that!” Jesus said. Then he touched the servant's ear and healed it.
52 Jesus spoke to the chief priests, the temple police, and the leaders who had come to arrest him. He said, “Why do you come out with swords and clubs and treat me like a criminal?
53 t I was with you every day in the temple, and you didn't arrest me. But this is your time, and darknesst is in control.”Peter Says //He Doesn't Know Jesus
(Matthew 26.57,58,67-75; Mark 14.53,54,66-72; John 18.12-18,25-27)
54 Jesus was arrested and led away to the house of the high priest, while Peter followed at a distance. 55 Some people built a fire in the middle of the courtyard and were sitting around it. Peter sat there with them,
56 and a servant girl saw him. Then after she had looked at him carefully, she said, “This man was with Jesus!”
57 Peter said, “Woman, I don't even know that man!”
58 A little later someone else saw Peter and said, “You are one of them!”
“No, I'm not!” Peter replied.
59 About an hour later another man insisted, “This man must have been with Jesus. They both come from Galilee.”
60 Peter replied, “I don't know what you are talking about!” Right then, while Peter was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61 The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered that the Lord had said, “Before a rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will say three times that you don't know me.”
62 Then Peter went out and cried bitterly.
63 The men who were guarding Jesus made fun of him and beat him. 64 They put a blindfold on him and said, “Tell us who struck you!”
65 They kept on insulting Jesus in many other ways.Jesus Is Questioned //by the Council
(Matthew 26.59-66; Mark 14.55-64; John 18.19-24)
66 At daybreak the nation's leaders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law of Moses got together and brought Jesus before their council.
67 They said, “Tell us! Are you the Messiah?”
Jesus replied, “If I said so, you wouldn't believe me. 68 And if I asked you a question, you wouldn't answer.
69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right side of God All-Powerful.”
70 Then they asked, “Are you the Son of God?”t
Jesus answered, “You say I am!”t
71 They replied, “Why do we need more witnesses? He said it himself!”
