1 بےخمیری روٹی کی عید یعنی فسح کی عید قریب آ گئی تھی۔2 راہنما امام اور شریعت کے علما عیسیٰ کو قتل کرنے کا کوئی موزوں موقع ڈھونڈ رہے تھے، کیونکہ وہ عوام کے ردِ عمل سے ڈرتے تھے۔3 اُس وقت ابلیس یہوداہ اسکریوتی میں سما گیا جو بارہ رسولوں میں سے تھا۔4 اب وہ راہنما اماموں اور بیت المُقدّس کے پہرے داروں کے افسروں سے ملا اور اُن سے بات کرنے لگا کہ وہ عیسیٰ کو کس طرح اُن کے حوالے کر سکے گا۔5 وہ خوش ہوئے اور اُسے پیسے دینے پر متفق ہوئے۔6 یہوداہ رضامند ہوا۔ اب سے وہ اِس تلاش میں رہا کہ عیسیٰ کو ایسے موقع پر اُن کے حوالے کرے جب ہجوم اُس کے پاس نہ ہو۔7 بےخمیری روٹی کی عید آئی جب فسح کے لیلے کو قربان کرنا تھا۔8 عیسیٰ نے پطرس اور یوحنا کو آگے بھیج کر ہدایت کی، ”جاؤ، ہمارے لئے فسح کا کھانا تیار کرو تاکہ ہم جا کر اُسے کھا سکیں۔“9 اُنہوں نے پوچھا، ”ہم اُسے کہاں تیار کریں؟“10 اُس نے جواب دیا، ”جب تم شہر میں داخل ہو گے تو تمہاری ملاقات ایک آدمی سے ہو گی جو پانی کا گھڑا اُٹھائے چل رہا ہو گا۔ اُس کے پیچھے چل کر اُس گھر میں داخل ہو جاؤ جس میں وہ جائے گا۔11 وہاں کے مالک سے کہنا، ’اُستاد آپ سے پوچھتے ہیں کہ وہ کمرا کہاں ہے جہاں مَیں اپنے شاگردوں کے ساتھ فسح کا کھانا کھاؤں؟‘12 وہ تم کو دوسری منزل پر ایک بڑا اور سجا ہوا کمرا دکھائے گا۔ فسح کا کھانا وہیں تیار کرنا۔“13 دونوں چلے گئے تو سب کچھ ویسا ہی پایا جیسا عیسیٰ نے اُنہیں بتایا تھا۔ پھر اُنہوں نے فسح کا کھانا تیار کیا۔14 مقررہ وقت پر عیسیٰ اپنے شاگردوں کے ساتھ کھانے کے لئے بیٹھ گیا۔15 اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”میری شدید آرزو تھی کہ دُکھ اُٹھانے سے پہلے تمہارے ساتھ مل کر فسح کا یہ کھانا کھاؤں۔16 کیونکہ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اُس وقت تک اِس کھانے میں شریک نہیں ہوں گا جب تک اِس کا مقصد اللہ کی بادشاہی میں پورا نہ ہو گیا ہو۔“17 پھر اُس نے مَے کا پیالہ لے کر شکرگزاری کی دعا کی اور کہا، ”اِس کو لے کر آپس میں بانٹ لو۔18 مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اب سے مَیں انگور کا رس نہیں پیؤں گا، کیونکہ اگلی دفعہ اِسے اللہ کی بادشاہی کے آنے پر پیؤں گا۔“19 پھر اُس نے روٹی لے کر شکرگزاری کی دعا کی اور اُسے ٹکڑے کر کے اُنہیں دے دیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”یہ میرا بدن ہے، جو تمہارے لئے دیا جاتا ہے۔ مجھے یاد کرنے کے لئے یہی کیا کرو۔“20 اِسی طرح اُس نے کھانے کے بعد پیالہ لے کر کہا، ”مَے کا یہ پیالہ وہ نیا عہد ہے جو میرے خون کے ذریعے قائم کیا جاتا ہے، وہ خون جو تمہارے لئے بہایا جاتا ہے۔21 لیکن جس شخص کا ہاتھ میرے ساتھ کھانا کھانے میں شریک ہے وہ مجھے دشمن کے حوالے کر دے گا۔22 ابنِ آدم تو اللہ کی مرضی کے مطابق کوچ کر جائے گا، لیکن اُس شخص پر افسوس جس کے وسیلے سے اُسے دشمن کے حوالے کر دیا جائے گا۔“23 یہ سن کر شاگرد ایک دوسرے سے بحث کرنے لگے کہ ہم میں سے یہ کون ہو سکتا ہے جو اِس قسم کی حرکت کرے گا۔24 پھر ایک اَور بات بھی چھڑ گئی۔ وہ ایک دوسرے سے بحث کرنے لگے کہ ہم میں سے کون سب سے بڑا سمجھا جائے۔25 لیکن عیسیٰ نے اُن سے کہا، ”غیریہودی قوموں میں بادشاہ وہی ہیں جو دوسروں پر حکومت کرتے ہیں، اور اختیار والے وہی ہیں جنہیں ’محسن‘ کا لقب دیا جاتا ہے۔26 لیکن تم کو ایسا نہیں ہونا چاہئے۔ اِس کے بجائے جو سب سے بڑا ہے وہ سب سے چھوٹے لڑکے کی مانند ہو اور جو راہنمائی کرتا ہے وہ نوکر جیسا ہو۔27 کیونکہ عام طور پر کون زیادہ بڑا ہوتا ہے، وہ جو کھانے کے لئے بیٹھا ہے یا وہ جو لوگوں کی خدمت کے لئے حاضر ہوتا ہے؟ کیا وہ نہیں جو کھانے کے لئے بیٹھا ہے؟ بےشک۔ لیکن مَیں خدمت کرنے والے کی حیثیت سے ہی تمہارے درمیان ہوں۔28 دیکھو، تم وہی ہو جو میری تمام آزمائشوں کے دوران میرے ساتھ رہے ہو۔29 چنانچہ مَیں تم کو بادشاہی عطا کرتا ہوں جس طرح باپ نے مجھے بھی بادشاہی عطا کی ہے۔30 تم میری بادشاہی میں میری میز پر بیٹھ کر میرے ساتھ کھاؤ اور پیؤ گے، اور تختوں پر بیٹھ کر اسرائیل کے بارہ قبیلوں کا انصاف کرو گے۔31 شمعون، شمعون! ابلیس نے تم لوگوں کو گندم کی طرح پھٹکنے کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔32 لیکن مَیں نے تیرے لئے دعا کی ہے تاکہ تیرا ایمان جاتا نہ رہے۔ اور جب تُو مُڑ کر واپس آئے تو اُس وقت اپنے بھائیوں کو مضبوط کرنا۔“33 پطرس نے جواب دیا، ”خداوند، مَیں تو آپ کے ساتھ جیل میں بھی جانے بلکہ مرنے کو تیار ہوں۔“34 عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”پطرس، مَیں تجھے بتاتا ہوں کہ کل صبح مرغ کے بانگ دینے سے پہلے پہلے تُو تین بار مجھے جاننے سے انکار کر چکا ہو گا۔“35 پھر اُس نے اُن سے پوچھا، ”جب مَیں نے تم کو بٹوے، سامان کے لئے بیگ اور جوتوں کے بغیر بھیج دیا تو کیا تم کسی بھی چیز سے محروم رہے؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”کسی سے نہیں۔“36 اُس نے کہا، ”لیکن اب جس کے پاس بٹوا یا بیگ ہو وہ اُسے ساتھ لے جائے، بلکہ جس کے پاس تلوار نہ ہو وہ اپنی چادر بیچ کر تلوار خرید لے۔37 کلامِ مُقدّس میں لکھا ہے، ’اُسے مجرموں میں شمار کیا گیا‘ اور مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں، لازم ہے کہ یہ بات مجھ میں پوری ہو جائے۔ کیونکہ جو کچھ میرے بارے میں لکھا ہے اُسے پورا ہی ہونا ہے۔“38 اُنہوں نے کہا، ”خداوند، یہاں دو تلواریں ہیں۔“ اُس نے کہا، ”بس! کافی ہے!“39 پھر وہ شہر سے نکل کر معمول کے مطابق زیتون کے پہاڑ کی طرف چل دیا۔ اُس کے شاگرد اُس کے پیچھے ہو لئے۔40 وہاں پہنچ کر اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”دعا کرو تاکہ آزمائش میں نہ پڑو۔“41 پھر وہ اُنہیں چھوڑ کر کچھ آگے نکلا، تقریباً اِتنے فاصلے پر جتنی دُور تک پتھر پھینکا جا سکتا ہے۔ وہاں وہ جھک کر دعا کرنے لگا،42 ”اے باپ، اگر تُو چاہے تو یہ پیالہ مجھ سے ہٹا لے۔ لیکن میری نہیں بلکہ تیری مرضی پوری ہو۔“43 اُس وقت ایک فرشتے نے آسمان پر سے اُس پر ظاہر ہو کر اُس کو تقویت دی۔44 وہ سخت پریشان ہو کر زیادہ دل سوزی سے دعا کرنے لگا۔ ساتھ ساتھ اُس کا پسینہ خون کی بوندوں کی طرح زمین پر ٹپکنے لگا۔45 جب وہ دعا سے فارغ ہو کر کھڑا ہوا اور شاگردوں کے پاس واپس آیا تو دیکھا کہ وہ غم کے مارے سو گئے ہیں۔46 اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”تم کیوں سو رہے ہو؟ اُٹھ کر دعا کرتے رہو تاکہ آزمائش میں نہ پڑو۔“47 وہ ابھی یہ بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ ایک ہجوم آ پہنچا جس کے آگے آگے یہوداہ چل رہا تھا۔ وہ عیسیٰ کو بوسہ دینے کے لئے اُس کے پاس آیا۔48 لیکن اُس نے کہا، ”یہوداہ، کیا تُو ابنِ آدم کو بوسہ دے کر دشمن کے حوالے کر رہا ہے؟“49 جب اُس کے ساتھیوں نے بھانپ لیا کہ اب کیا ہونے والا ہے تو اُنہوں نے کہا، ”خداوند، کیا ہم تلوار چلائیں؟“50 اور اُن میں سے ایک نے اپنی تلوار سے امامِ اعظم کے غلام کا دہنا کان اُڑا دیا۔51 لیکن عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”بس کر!“ اُس نے غلام کا کان چھو کر اُسے شفا دی۔52 پھر وہ اُن راہنما اماموں، بیت المُقدّس کے پہرے داروں کے افسروں اور بزرگوں سے مخاطب ہوا جو اُس کے پاس آئے تھے، ”کیا مَیں ڈاکو ہوں کہ تم تلواریں اور لاٹھیاں لئے میرے خلاف نکلے ہو؟53 مَیں تو روزانہ بیت المُقدّس میں تمہارے پاس تھا، مگر تم نے وہاں مجھے ہاتھ نہیں لگایا۔ لیکن اب یہ تمہارا وقت ہے، وہ وقت جب تاریکی حکومت کرتی ہے۔“54 پھر وہ اُسے گرفتار کر کے امامِ اعظم کے گھر لے گئے۔ پطرس کچھ فاصلے پر اُن کے پیچھے پیچھے وہاں پہنچ گیا۔55 لوگ صحن میں آگ جلا کر اُس کے ارد گرد بیٹھ گئے۔ پطرس بھی اُن کے درمیان بیٹھ گیا۔56 کسی نوکرانی نے اُسے وہاں آگ کے پاس بیٹھے ہوئے دیکھا۔ اُس نے اُسے گھور کر کہا، ”یہ بھی اُس کے ساتھ تھا۔“57 لیکن اُس نے انکار کیا، ”خاتون، مَیں اُسے نہیں جانتا۔“58 تھوڑی دیر کے بعد کسی آدمی نے اُسے دیکھا اور کہا، ”تم بھی اُن میں سے ہو۔“ لیکن پطرس نے جواب دیا، ”نہیں بھئی! مَیں نہیں ہوں۔“59 تقریباً ایک گھنٹا گزر گیا تو کسی اَور نے اصرار کر کے کہا، ”یہ آدمی یقیناً اُس کے ساتھ تھا، کیونکہ یہ بھی گلیل کا رہنے والا ہے۔“60 لیکن پطرس نے جواب دیا، ”یار، مَیں نہیں جانتا کہ تم کیا کہہ رہے ہو!“ وہ ابھی بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ اچانک مرغ کی بانگ سنائی دی۔61 خداوند نے مُڑ کر پطرس پر نظر ڈالی۔ پھر پطرس کو خداوند کی وہ بات یاد آئی جو اُس نے اُس سے کہی تھی کہ ”کل صبح مرغ کے بانگ دینے سے پہلے پہلے تُو تین بار مجھے جاننے سے انکار کر چکا ہو گا۔“62 پطرس وہاں سے نکل کر ٹوٹے دل سے خوب رویا۔63 پہرے دار عیسیٰ کا مذاق اُڑانے اور اُس کی پٹائی کرنے لگے۔64 اُنہوں نے اُس کی آنکھوں پر پٹی باندھ کر پوچھا، ”نبوّت کر کہ کس نے تجھے مارا؟“65 اِس طرح کی اَور بہت سی باتوں سے وہ اُس کی بےعزتی کرتے رہے۔66 جب دن چڑھا تو راہنما اماموں اور شریعت کے علما پر مشتمل قوم کی مجلس نے جمع ہو کر اُسے یہودی عدالتِ عالیہ میں پیش کیا۔67 اُنہوں نے کہا، ”اگر تُو مسیح ہے تو ہمیں بتا!“ عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”اگر مَیں تم کو بتاؤں تو تم میری بات نہیں مانو گے،68 اور اگر تم سے پوچھوں تو تم جواب نہیں دو گے۔69 لیکن اب سے ابنِ آدم اللہ تعالیٰ کے دہنے ہاتھ بیٹھا ہو گا۔“70 سب نے پوچھا، ”تو پھر کیا تُو اللہ کا فرزند ہے؟“ اُس نے جواب دیا، ”جی، تم خود کہتے ہو۔“71 اِس پر اُنہوں نے کہا، ”اب ہمیں کسی اَور گواہی کی کیا ضرورت رہی؟ کیونکہ ہم نے یہ بات اُس کے اپنے منہ سے سن لی ہے۔“

1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.2 And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people.3 And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.4 And he went away, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might deliver him unto them.5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.6 And he consented, and sought opportunity to deliver him unto them in the absence of the multitude.7 And the day of unleavened bread came, on which the passover must be sacrificed.8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make ready for us the passover, that we may eat.9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we make ready?10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house whereinto he goeth.11 And ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the apostles with him.15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:16 for I say unto you, I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.17 And he received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:18 for I say unto you, I shall not drink from henceforth of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.20 And the cup in like manner after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, even that which is poured out for you.21 But behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.22 For the Son of man indeed goeth, as it hath been determined: but woe unto that man through whom he is betrayed!23 And they began to question among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.24 And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest.25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors.26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.27 For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.28 But ye are they that have continued with me in my temptations;29 and I appoint unto you a kingdom, even as my Father appointed unto me,30 that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.31 Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat:32 but I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not; and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren.33 And he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, until thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.35 And he said unto them, When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing.36 And he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.37 For I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, And he was reckoned with transgressors: for that which concerneth me hath fulfilment.38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.39 And he came out, and went, as his custom was, unto the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him.40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.41 And he was parted from them about a stone’s cast; and he kneeled down and prayed,42 saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.43 And there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.45 And when he rose up from his prayer, he came unto the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow,46 and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.47 While he yet spake, behold, a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them; and he drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?49 And when they that were about him saw what would follow, they said, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?50 And a certain one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear.51 But Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye them thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.52 And Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, that were come against him, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves?53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.54 And they seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed afar off.55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them.56 And a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light of the fire, and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him.57 But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not.58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou also art one of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.59 And after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilaean.60 But Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow this day thou shalt deny me thrice.62 And he went out, and wept bitterly.63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and beat him.64 And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee?65 And many other things spake they against him, reviling him.66 And as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying,67 If thou art the Christ, tell us. But he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:68 and if I ask you, ye will not answer.69 But from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God.70 And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.71 And they said, What further need have we of witness? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.
