Den stora fiskfångsten. De första efterföljarna

1 En dag när Jesus stod vid sjön Gennesaret, trängde folket på för att höra Guds budskap.2 Han fick då se två tomma båtar som några fiskare lämnat vid stranden medan de sköljde sina nät.

3 Och han steg i en av båtarna och bad Simon, som ägde den, att ro ut en bit från land. Sedan satt han i båten och talade till folket.

4 När han hade slutat tala, sa han till Simon: "Ro nu ut på djupt vatten och lägg ut näten, så ska ni få så mycket fisk ni vill ha!"
5 "Herre", sa Simon, "vi har arbetat hårt hela natten och har ändå inte fått något. Men eftersom du säger det, så ska vi försöka igen."6 Och när de gjorde det, fick de så mycket fisk att näten höll på att gå sönder!

7 Då vinkade de till sig sina kamrater så att de kom ut med den andra båten, och snart var båda båtarna så fulla med fisk att de var nära att sjunka.
8 När Simon äntligen fattat vad som hade hänt, föll han på knä inför Jesus och sa: "Herre, lämna mig! Jag är en syndare. Jag kan inte vara i din närhet."9 Både han och de andra i båten hade blivit helt förskräckta när de såg hur mycket fisk de hade fått.10 Hans kompanjoner, Jakob och Johannes, Sebedaios söner, var lika förskräckta.
Men Jesus sa till Simon: "Var inte rädd! Från och med nu ska du fånga människor istället!"

11 Och när de hade rott båtarna i land lämnade de allt för att följa Jesus.

Jesus botar en spetälsk man

12 En annan gång, när Jesus besökte en stad, träffade han en man som var svårt angripen av spetälskat. När mannen fick se Jesus, kastade han sig till marken framför honom och bad: "Herre, om du vill, så kan du göra mig frisk."
13 Då sträckte Jesus ut handen och rörde vid honom och sa: "Det vill jag. Du är frisk!" Och genast försvann spetälskan.

14 Sedan förbjöd Jesus mannen att berätta för någon vad som hade hänt. Han sa: "Gå istället till prästen, och låt honom undersöka dig. Ta också med dig det offer som Mose bestämt för spetälska personer som blivit friska.t Då kommer alla att förstå att Gud har botat dig."
15 Men ryktet om Jesus spred sig allt snabbare, och mängder med människor kom för att lyssna på honom och bli botade från sina sjukdomar.

16 Han drog sig därför ofta undan till öde trakter för att be.

Jesus botar en förlamad man

17 En dag när Jesus undervisade, satt några av fariseernat och laglärarnat med bland dem som lyssnade. De hade kommit från alla byar i hela Galileen och Judeen, och också från Jerusalem. Och Guds kraft var över Jesus så att han kunde bota människor.

18-19 Då kom några män bärande på en bår med en förlamad man. De försökte tränga sig igenom folkmassan för att komma nära Jesus, men lyckades inte ta sig fram. De gick därför upp på taket och tog bort några takplattor och firade sedan ner den förlamade på båren mitt framför Jesus.

20 När Jesus såg vilken stor tro de hade, sa han till den förlamade: "Min son, jag har förlåtit dig dina synder."

21 "Vad är det här för en, som hädart Gud på det viset?" tänkte fariseerna och laglärarna. "Det är ju bara Gud som kan förlåta synder."
22 Men Jesus förstod vad de tänkte och sa: "Varför tänker ni att just detta är en hädelse?23 Är det inte lika omöjligt för en människa att säga till den förlamade: 'Res dig upp och gå' som att säga 'Jag förlåter dig dina synder'?"24 Sedan vände han sig till den förlamade och sa: "För att bevisa att jag, Människosonent, har makt att förlåta synder här på jorden, säger jag till dig: 'Res dig upp, ta din bår och gå hem!' "

25-26 Och genast reste sig mannen upp, mitt framför ögonen på de förbluffade människorna. Sedan tog han sin bår och gick hem, och hela tiden hyllade han Gud. Alla som såg det blev helt förskräckta, och de hyllade Gud och sa gång på gång: "Det vi har sett idag är helt otroligt!"

Jesus kallar en tullindrivare att följa honom

27 När Jesus senare lämnade staden fick han se en tullindrivaret som hette Levi sitta utanför tullhuset. "Kom och bli min efterföljare", sa Jesus till honom.

28 Och utan att tveka lämnade Levi allt och reste sig och följde Jesus.

29 Levi ordnade sedan med en fest för Jesus i sitt hus, och när man åt tillsammans var det många av Levis gamla kollegor vid tullen som var med bland gästerna, och även en del annat folk.
30 Fariseernat, och särskilt laglärarnat bland dem, blev då mycket arga och sa till Jesus efterföljare. "Hur kan ni sänka er så lågt att ni äter tillsammans med tullindrivare och syndare?"31 Men Jesus svarade: "Det är inte de friska som behöver läkare, utan de sjuka.

32 Min uppgift här på jorden är att föra syndare tillbaka till Gud, inte att ta hand om dem som redan följer hans vilja."

Jesus svarar på en fråga om fasta

33 De religiösa ledarna anklagade också Jesus för en annan sak. De sa: "Johannes döparens efterföljare fastar och ber regelbundet, och det gör fariseernast också. Men dina, de äter och dricker och njuter av livet!"
34 Då svarade Jesus: "Ni vill väl inte försöka få bröllopsgästerna att fasta och gå hungriga medan brudgummen är hos dem?35 Men en dag ska han tas ifrån dem. Och efter den dagen kommer de att fasta. Det finns en tid och en plats för allt."36 Sedan berättade Jesus två exempel på detta. Han sa: "Ingen river en lapp från ett nytt, okrympt plagg, och sätter den på ett gammalt plagg. Då blir ju det nya plagget förstört, och dessutom kommer lappen att krympa och riva sönder det gamla plagget.37 Och ingen häller nytt vin i gamla vinsäckar, för när vinet jäser sprängs säckarna och blir förstörda, och vinet rinner ut.38 Nej, nytt vin måste hällas i nya säckar.

39 Men ingen som har druckit av det gamla vinet tycks vilja ha det nya. Det gamla vanliga är bäst, säger man."t

Luke 5

The Call of the Disciples

1 Nowt Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,s and the crowd was pressing around hims to hear the word of God.2 Het saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.3 He got intot one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Thent Jesust sat downt and taught the crowds from the boat.4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and lowert your nets for a catch.”5 Simont answered,t “Master,t we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your wordt I will lowert the nets.”6 Whent they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets started to tear.t7 Sot they motionedt to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they were about to sink.t8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord,s for I am a sinful man!”s9 Fors Petert and all who were with him were astonisheds at the catch of fish that they had taken,10 and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s business partners.t Thent Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now ons you will be catching people.”ts

11 Sot when they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followeds him.

Healing a Leper

12 Whilet Jesust was in one of the towns,t a man camet to him who was covered witht leprosy.s Whent he saw Jesus, he bowed down with his face to the groundt and begged him,t “Lord, ift you are willing, you can make me clean.”13 Sot he stretched out his hand and toucheds him, saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.14 Thent he ordered the mant to tell no one,s but commanded him,t “Got and show yourself to a priest, and bring the offeringt for your cleansing, as Moses commanded,s as a testimony to them.”t15 But the news about him spread even more,s and large crowds were gathering together to hear himt and to be healed of their illnesses.

16 Yet Jesus himselft frequently withdrewt to the wildernesst and prayed.

Healing and Forgiving a Paralytic

17 Now ont one of those days, while he was teaching, there were Phariseess and teachers of the lawt sitting nearby (who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem),ss and the power of the Lord was with hims to heal.18 Just thent some men showed up, carrying a paralyzed mant on a stretcher.t Theyt were trying to bring him in and place him before Jesus.t19 Butt since they foundt no way to carry him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roofs and let him down on the stretchert through the roof tilest rightt in front of Jesus.s20 Whent Jesust saw theirs faith he said, “Friend,t your sins are forgiven.”ts21 Thent the experts in the lawt and the Pharisees began to thinkt to themselves,t “Who is this mant who is uttering blasphemies?s Who can forgive sins but God alone?”22 When Jesus perceiveds their hostile thoughts,t he said to them,t “Why are you raising objectionst within yourselves?23 Which is easier,s to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’?24 But so that you may knows that the Son of Mans has authority on earth to forgive sins” – he said to the paralyzed mants – “I tell you, stand up, take your stretchert and go home.”t25 Immediatelyt he stood up before them, pickedt up the stretchert he had been lying on, and went home, glorifyings God.

26 Thent astonishmentt seized them all, and they glorifiedt God. They were filled with awe,t saying, “We have seen incrediblet thingst today.”s

The Call of Levi; Eating with Sinners

27 Aftert this, Jesust went out and saw a tax collectors named Levis sitting at the tax booth.ts “Follow me,”s he said to him.

28 And he got up and followed him, leaving everythings behind.t
29 Thent Levi gave a great banquets in his house for Jesus,t and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sittingt at the table with them.30 Butt the Phariseess and their experts in the lawt complainedt to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”s31 Jesust answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do.s

32 I have not comes to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”s

The Superiority of the New

33 Thent they said to him, “John’sss disciples frequently fasts and pray,t and so do the disciples of the Pharisees,s but yours continue to eat and drink.”t34 Sot Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the wedding guestst fast while the bridegrooms is with them, can you?t35 But those days are coming, and when the bridegroom is taken from them,s at that timet they will fast.”36 He also told them a parable:s “No one tears a patch from a new garment and sewst it on an old garment. If he does, he will have tornt the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.s37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins.s If he does, the new wine will burst the skins and will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed.38 Instead new wine must be poured into new wineskins.ss

39 ss Nos one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, ‘The old is good enough.’”sts
