Gesù chiama i suoi primi discepoli; la pesca miracolosa

1 Mentre egli stava in piedi sulla riva del lago di Gennesaret e la folla si stringeva intorno a lui per udire la parola di Dio,2 Gesù vide due barche ferme a riva: da esse i pescatori erano smontati e lavavano le reti.

3 Montato su una di quelle barche, che era di Simone, lo pregò di scostarsi un poco da terra; poi, sedutosi sulla barca, insegnava alla folla.
4 Come ebbe terminato di parlare, disse a Simone: «Prendi il largo, e gettate le vostre reti per pescare».5 Simone rispose: «Maestro, tutta la notte ci siamo affaticati e non abbiamo preso nulla; però, secondo la tua parola, getterò le reti».6 E, fatto così, presero una tal quantità di pesci, che le loro reti si rompevano.7 Allora fecero segno ai loro compagni dell'altra barca di venire ad aiutarli. Quelli vennero e riempirono tutte e due le barche, tanto che affondavano.8 Simon Pietro, veduto ciò, si gettò ai piedi di Gesù, dicendo: «Signore, allontànati da me, perché sono un peccatore».9 Perché spavento aveva colto lui e tutti quelli che erano con lui, per la quantità di pesci che avevano presi,10 e così pure Giacomo e Giovanni, figli di Zebedeo, che erano soci di Simone. Allora Gesù disse a Simone: «Non temere; da ora in poi sarai pescatore di uomini».

11 Ed essi, tratte le barche a terra, lasciarono ogni cosa e lo seguirono.

Gesù guarisce un lebbroso

12 Mentre egli si trovava in una di quelle città, ecco un uomo tutto coperto di lebbra, il quale, veduto Gesù, si gettò con la faccia a terra e lo pregò, dicendo: «Signore, se vuoi, tu puoi purificarmi».13 Ed egli, stesa la mano, lo toccò, dicendo: «Lo voglio, sii purificato». E subito la lebbra sparì da lui.

14 Poi Gesù gli comandò di non dirlo a nessuno. «Ma va'», gli disse, «mòstrati al sacerdote e offri per la tua purificazione ciò che Mosè ha prescritto; e ciò serva loro di testimonianza».
15 Però la fama di lui si spandeva sempre più; e grandi folle si radunavano per udirlo ed essere guarite dalle loro infermità.

16 Ma egli si ritirava nei luoghi deserti e pregava.

Gesù guarisce un paralitico

17 Un giorno Gesù stava insegnando, e c'erano là seduti dei farisei te dei dottori della legge, venuti da tutti i villaggi della Galilea, della Giudea e da Gerusalemme; e la potenza del Signore era con lui per compiere guarigioni.18 Ed ecco degli uomini che portavano sopra un letto un uomo che era paralizzato, e cercavano di farlo entrare e di metterlo davanti a lui.19 Non trovando modo di introdurlo a causa della folla, salirono sul tetto e, fatta un'apertura fra le tegole, lo calarono giù con il lettuccio, lì nel mezzo, davanti a Gesù.20 Ed egli, veduta la loro fede, disse: «Uomo, i tuoi peccati ti sono perdonati».21 Allora gli scribi e i farisei cominciarono a ragionare, dicendo: «Chi è costui che pronuncia bestemmie? Chi può perdonare i peccati se non Dio solo?»22 Ma Gesù, conosciuti i loro pensieri, disse loro: «Di cosa ragionate nei vostri cuori?23 Che cosa è più facile, dire: "I tuoi peccati ti sono perdonati" oppure dire: "Àlzati e cammina"?24 Ora, affinché sappiate che il Figlio dell'uomo tha sulla terra il potere di perdonare i peccati, io ti dico», disse all'uomo paralizzato, «àlzati, prendi il tuo lettuccio e va' a casa tua».25 E subito egli si alzò in loro presenza, prese ciò su cui giaceva e se ne andò a casa sua, glorificando Dio.

26 Tutti furono presi da stupore e glorificavano Dio; e, pieni di spavento, dicevano: «Oggi abbiamo visto cose straordinarie».

Chiamata di Levi

27 Dopo queste cose, egli uscì e notò un pubblicano, di nome Levi, che sedeva al banco delle imposte, e gli disse: «Seguimi».

28 Ed egli, lasciata ogni cosa, si alzò e si mise a seguirlo.
29 Levi gli preparò un grande banchetto in casa sua; e una gran folla di pubblicani e di altre persone erano a tavola con loro.30 I farisei e i loro scribi mormoravano contro i suoi discepoli, dicendo: «Perché mangiate e bevete con i pubblicani e i peccatori?»31 Gesù rispose loro: «Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, bensì i malati.

32 Io non sono venuto a chiamare dei giusti, ma dei peccatori a ravvedimento».

Del digiuno; parabola della stoffa nuova e degli otri nuovi

33 Essi gli dissero: «I discepoli di Giovanni digiunano spesso e pregano, così pure quelli dei farisei; i tuoi invece mangiano e bevono».34 Gesù disse loro: «Potete far digiunare gli amici dello sposo, mentre lo sposo è con loro?35 Ma verranno i giorni in cui lo sposo sarà loro tolto; allora, in quei giorni, digiuneranno».36 Disse loro anche una parabola t: «Nessuno strappa un pezzo da un vestito nuovo per metterlo a un vestito vecchio, altrimenti strappa il nuovo e il pezzo tolto dal nuovo non si adatta al vecchio.37 Nessuno mette vino nuovo in otri vecchi, altrimenti il vino nuovo fa scoppiare gli otri e si spande, e gli otri vanno perduti.38 Ma il vino nuovo va messo in otri nuovi.

39 {E} nessuno, che abbia bevuto vino vecchio, ne desidera del nuovo, perché dice: "Il vecchio è buono"».

LUKE 5

Jesus Chooses His First Disciples

(Matthew 4.18-22; Mark 1.16-20)

1  t Jesus was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret, t teaching the people as they crowded around him to hear God's message. 2 Near the shore he saw two boats left there by some fishermen who had gone to wash their nets.

3 Jesus got into the boat that belonged to Simon and asked him to row it out a little way from the shore. Then Jesus sat downt in the boat to teach the crowd.

4 When Jesus had finished speaking, he told Simon, “Row the boat out into the deep water and let your nets down to catch some fish.”
5  t “Master,” Simon answered, “we have worked hard all night long and have not caught a thing. But if you tell me to, I will let the nets down.” 6 t They did this and caught so many fish that their nets began ripping apart.

7 Then they signaled for their partners in the other boat to come and help them. The men came, and together they filled the two boats so full that they both began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this happen, he knelt down in front of Jesus and said, “Lord, don't come near me! I am a sinner.” 9 Peter and everyone with him were completely surprised at all the fish they had caught.

10 His partners James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were surprised too.
Jesus told Simon, “Don't be afraid! From now on you will bring in people instead of fish.”

11 The men pulled their boats up on the shore. Then they left everything and went with Jesus.

Jesus Heals a Man

(Matthew 8.1-4; Mark 1.40-45)

12 Jesus came to a town where there was a man who had leprosy.t When the man saw Jesus, he knelt down to the ground in front of Jesus and begged, “Lord, you have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.”
13 Jesus put his hand on him and said, “I want to! Now you are well.” At once the man's leprosy disappeared.

14 t Jesus told him, “Don't tell anyone about this, but go and show yourself to the priest. Offer a gift to the priest, just as Moses commanded, and everyone will know that you have been healed.”t
15 News about Jesus kept spreading. Large crowds came to listen to him teach and to be healed of their diseases.

16 But Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray.

Jesus Heals a Man //Who Could Not Walk

(Matthew 9.1-8; Mark 2.1-12)

17 One day some Pharisees and experts in the Law of Moses sat listening to Jesus teach. They had come from every village in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem.
God had given Jesus the power to heal the sick, 18 and some people came carrying a man on a mat because he could not walk. They tried to take him inside the house and put him in front of Jesus.

19 But because of the crowd, they could not get him to Jesus. So they went up on the roof, t where they removed some tiles and let the mat down in the middle of the room.

20 When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the man, “My friend, your sins are forgiven.”

21 The Pharisees and the experts began arguing, “Jesus must think he is God! Only God can forgive sins.”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said, “Why are you thinking this? 23 Is it easier for me to tell this man that his sins are forgiven or to tell him to get up and walk?

24 But now you will see that the Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth.” Jesus then said to the man, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk home.”
25 At once the man stood up in front of everyone. He picked up his mat and went home, giving thanks to God.

26 Everyone was amazed and praised God. What they saw surprised them, and they said, “We have seen a great miracle today!”

Jesus Chooses Levi

(Matthew 9.9-13; Mark 2.13-17)

28 Levi left everything and went with Jesus.

29 In his home Levi gave a big dinner for Jesus. Many tax collectors and other guests were also there.

30  t The Pharisees and some of their teachers of the Law of Moses grumbled to Jesus' disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with these tax collectors and other sinners?”
31 Jesus answered, “Healthy people don't need a doctor, but sick people do.

32 I didn't come to invite good people to turn to God. I came to invite sinners.”

33 Some people said to Jesus, “John's followers often pray and go without eating, t and so do the followers of the Pharisees. But your disciples never go without eating or drinking.”
34 Jesus told them, “The friends of a bridegroom don't go without eating while he is still with them.

35 But the time will come when he will be taken from them. Then they will go without eating.”

36 Jesus then told them these sayings:
No one uses a new piece of cloth to patch old clothes. The patch would shrink and make the hole even bigger.
37 No one pours new wine into old wineskins. The new wine would swell and burst the old skins.t Then the wine would be lost, and the skins would be ruined.

38 New wine must be put only into new wineskins.
39 No one wants new wine after drinking old wine. They say, “The old wine is better.”
