La pesca milagrosa

1 En cierta ocasión, Jesús estaba junto al lago de Genesaret y el gentío se agolpaba sobre él para oír la palabra de Dios.2 Jesús vio que cerca de la orilla del lago estaban dos barcas, y que los pescadores habían bajado de ellas para lavar sus redes.3 Jesús entró en una de aquellas barcas, la cual era de Simón, y le pidió que la apartara un poco de la orilla; luego se sentó en la barca, y desde allí enseñaba a la multitud.t4 Cuando terminó de hablar, le dijo a Simón: «Lleva la barca hacia la parte honda del lago, y echen allí sus redes para pescar.»5 Simón le dijo: «Maestro, toda la noche hemos estado trabajando, y no hemos pescado nada;t pero ya que tú me lo pides, echaré la red.»6 Así lo hicieron, y fue tal la cantidad de peces que atraparon,t que la red se rompía.7 Entonces hicieron señas a los compañeros que estaban en la otra barca, para que vinieran a ayudarlos. Cuando aquellos llegaron, llenaron ambas barcas de tal manera, que poco faltaba para que se hundieran.8 Cuando Simón Pedro vio esto, cayó de rodillas ante Jesús y le dijo: «Señor, ¡apártate de mí, porque soy un pecador!»9 Y es que tanto él como todos sus compañeros estaban pasmados por la pesca que habían hecho.10 También estaban sorprendidos Jacobo y Juan, los hijos de Zebedeo, que eran compañeros de Simón. Pero Jesús le dijo a Simón: «No temas, que desde ahora serás pescador de hombres.»11 Llevaron entonces las barcas a tierra, y lo dejaron todo para seguir a Jesús.

Jesús sana a un leproso

12 En otra ocasión, mientras Jesús estaba en una de las ciudades, se presentó un hombre lleno de lepra, quien al ver a Jesús se arrodilló y, rostro en tierra, le rogaba: «Señor, si quieres, puedes limpiarme.»13 Entonces Jesús extendió la mano, lo tocó y le dijo: «Quiero. Ya has quedado limpio.» Y al instante se le quitó la lepra.14 Jesús le ordenó: «No se lo cuentes a nadie. Sólo ve y preséntate ante el sacerdote, y ofrece por tu purificación lo que ordenó Moisés,t para que les sirva de testimonio.»15 Pero su fama seguía extendiéndose, y mucha gente se reunía para escucharlo y para que los sanara de sus enfermedades;16 pero Jesús se retiraba a lugares apartados para orar.

Jesús sana a un paralítico

17 Un día, mientras Jesús enseñaba, estaban sentados los fariseos y doctores de la ley que habían venido de todas las aldeas de Galilea, y de Judea y Jerusalén. El poder del Señor estaba con Jesús para sanar.18 En ese momento llegaron unos hombres que traían en una camilla a un paralítico. Querían llevarlo adentro y ponerlo delante de Jesús,19 pero como a causa de la multitud no hallaron la manera de hacerlo, se subieron a la azotea y, por el tejado, bajaron al paralítico en la camilla, hasta ponerlo en medio de la gente y delante de Jesús.20 Al ver Jesús la fe de ellos, le dijo al paralítico: «Buen hombre, tus pecados te son perdonados.»21 Los escribas y los fariseos comenzaron a murmurar, y decían: «¿Quién es éste, que profiere blasfemias? ¿Quién puede perdonar pecados? ¡Nadie sino Dios!»22 Jesús, que conocía sus pensamientos, les dijo: «¿Por qué cavilan en su corazón?23 ¿Qué es más fácil? ¿Que le diga al paralítico: “Tus pecados te son perdonados”, o que le diga: “Levántate y anda”?24 Pues para que ustedes sepan que el Hijo del Hombre tiene autoridad en la tierra para perdonar pecados, éste le dice al paralítico: “Levántate, toma tu camilla, y vete a tu casa.”»25 Al instante, aquel hombre se levantó en presencia de ellos, tomó la camilla en la que había estado acostado, y se fue a su casa alabando a Dios.26 Todos estaban admirados y alababan a Dios, y llenos de temor decían: «¡Hoy hemos visto maravillas!»

Llamamiento de Leví

27 Después de esto, Jesús salió y vio a un cobrador de impuestos llamado Leví, que estaba sentado donde se cobraban los impuestos. Le dijo: «Sígueme.»28 Leví se levantó y, dejándolo todo, lo siguió.

29 Más tarde, Leví ofreció un gran banquete en su casa, en honor de Jesús. Sentados a la mesa con ellos estaban muchos cobradores de impuestos y otras personas.30 Pero los escribas y los fariseos murmuraban contra los discípulos de Jesús, y les dijeron: «¿Por qué ustedes comen y beben con cobradores de impuestos y pecadores?»t31 Jesús les respondió: «Los que están sanos no necesitan de un médico, sino los enfermos.32 Yo no he venido a llamar al arrepentimiento a los justos, sino a los pecadores.»

La pregunta sobre el ayuno

33 Entonces ellos le dijeron: «¿Por qué los discípulos de Juan y de los fariseos ayunan muchas veces, y hacen oraciones, mientras que los tuyos comen y beben?»34 Jesús les dijo: «¿Acaso ustedes pueden hacer que ayunen los invitados a una boda, mientras el novio está con ellos?35 Llegará el día en que el novio ya no estará con ellos. Entonces sí, ese día, ayunarán.»36 También les contó una parábola: «Nadie corta un retazo de un vestido nuevo para remendar un vestido viejo. Si lo hace, no solamente arruinará el vestido nuevo, sino que el remiendo no quedará bien en el vestido viejo.37 Ni tampoco se echa vino nuevo en odres viejos, porque el vino nuevo hará que se revienten los odres; entonces el vino se derramará, y los odres se echarán a perder.38 El vino nuevo debe echarse en odres nuevos. Así, tanto el vino como los odres se conservan.39 Y nadie que haya bebido el vino añejo, quiere beber el nuevo, porque dice: “El vino añejo es mejor.”»

LUKE 5

Jesus Chooses His First Disciples

(Matthew 4.18-22; Mark 1.16-20)

1  t Jesus was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret, t teaching the people as they crowded around him to hear God's message. 2 Near the shore he saw two boats left there by some fishermen who had gone to wash their nets.

3 Jesus got into the boat that belonged to Simon and asked him to row it out a little way from the shore. Then Jesus sat downt in the boat to teach the crowd.

4 When Jesus had finished speaking, he told Simon, “Row the boat out into the deep water and let your nets down to catch some fish.”
5  t “Master,” Simon answered, “we have worked hard all night long and have not caught a thing. But if you tell me to, I will let the nets down.” 6 t They did this and caught so many fish that their nets began ripping apart.

7 Then they signaled for their partners in the other boat to come and help them. The men came, and together they filled the two boats so full that they both began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this happen, he knelt down in front of Jesus and said, “Lord, don't come near me! I am a sinner.” 9 Peter and everyone with him were completely surprised at all the fish they had caught.

10 His partners James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were surprised too.
Jesus told Simon, “Don't be afraid! From now on you will bring in people instead of fish.”

11 The men pulled their boats up on the shore. Then they left everything and went with Jesus.

Jesus Heals a Man

(Matthew 8.1-4; Mark 1.40-45)

12 Jesus came to a town where there was a man who had leprosy.t When the man saw Jesus, he knelt down to the ground in front of Jesus and begged, “Lord, you have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.”
13 Jesus put his hand on him and said, “I want to! Now you are well.” At once the man's leprosy disappeared.

14 t Jesus told him, “Don't tell anyone about this, but go and show yourself to the priest. Offer a gift to the priest, just as Moses commanded, and everyone will know that you have been healed.”t
15 News about Jesus kept spreading. Large crowds came to listen to him teach and to be healed of their diseases.

16 But Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray.

Jesus Heals a Man //Who Could Not Walk

(Matthew 9.1-8; Mark 2.1-12)

17 One day some Pharisees and experts in the Law of Moses sat listening to Jesus teach. They had come from every village in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem.
God had given Jesus the power to heal the sick, 18 and some people came carrying a man on a mat because he could not walk. They tried to take him inside the house and put him in front of Jesus.

19 But because of the crowd, they could not get him to Jesus. So they went up on the roof, t where they removed some tiles and let the mat down in the middle of the room.

20 When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the man, “My friend, your sins are forgiven.”

21 The Pharisees and the experts began arguing, “Jesus must think he is God! Only God can forgive sins.”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said, “Why are you thinking this? 23 Is it easier for me to tell this man that his sins are forgiven or to tell him to get up and walk?

24 But now you will see that the Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth.” Jesus then said to the man, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk home.”
25 At once the man stood up in front of everyone. He picked up his mat and went home, giving thanks to God.

26 Everyone was amazed and praised God. What they saw surprised them, and they said, “We have seen a great miracle today!”

Jesus Chooses Levi

(Matthew 9.9-13; Mark 2.13-17)

28 Levi left everything and went with Jesus.

29 In his home Levi gave a big dinner for Jesus. Many tax collectors and other guests were also there.

30  t The Pharisees and some of their teachers of the Law of Moses grumbled to Jesus' disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with these tax collectors and other sinners?”
31 Jesus answered, “Healthy people don't need a doctor, but sick people do.

32 I didn't come to invite good people to turn to God. I came to invite sinners.”

33 Some people said to Jesus, “John's followers often pray and go without eating, t and so do the followers of the Pharisees. But your disciples never go without eating or drinking.”
34 Jesus told them, “The friends of a bridegroom don't go without eating while he is still with them.

35 But the time will come when he will be taken from them. Then they will go without eating.”

36 Jesus then told them these sayings:
No one uses a new piece of cloth to patch old clothes. The patch would shrink and make the hole even bigger.
37 No one pours new wine into old wineskins. The new wine would swell and burst the old skins.t Then the wine would be lost, and the skins would be ruined.

38 New wine must be put only into new wineskins.
39 No one wants new wine after drinking old wine. They say, “The old wine is better.”
