1 Một ngày kia, khi Đức Chúa Jesus đang đứng bên bờ Hồ Ghê-nê-sa-rết, đoàn dân đông chen lấn nhau quanh Ngài để nghe lời Đức Chúa Trời.2 Ngài thấy hai chiếc thuyền đang đậu bên bờ hồ; các ngư phủ đã rời khỏi thuyền và đang giặt lưới.3 Ngài bước vào một trong hai thuyền ấy, đó là chiếc thuyền của Si-môn, rồi Ngài xin ông cho thuyền dang xa bờ một chút. Ngài ngồi xuống và giảng dạy cho dân từ trên thuyền.4 Khi giảng dạy xong, Ngài nói với Si-môn, "Hãy chèo thuyền ra chỗ nước sâu và thả lưới xuống đánh cá."5 Si-môn đáp, "Thưa Thầy, chúng con đã đánh cá vất vả suốt đêm và không bắt được con nào. Nhưng bây giờ Thầy bảo vậy, con sẽ thả các lưới xuống."6 Khi thả lưới xuống, họ bắt được rất nhiều cá đến nỗi các lưới gần đứt.7 Vì thế họ phải ra dấu cho các bạn chài ở chiếc thuyền kia đến giúp họ. Những người ấy đến, phụ kéo lưới lên, và đổ cá đầy hai thuyền, đến nỗi cả hai đều gần chìm.8 Khi Si-môn Phi-rơ thấy vậy, ông quỳ xuống nơi chân Đức Chúa Jesus và nói, "Lạy Chúa, xin lìa khỏi con, vì con là một kẻ tội lỗi."9 Số là ông và các bạn chài của ông đều quá kinh ngạc về mẻ lưới cá họ vừa bắt được.10 Cả Gia-cơ và Giăng hai con của Xê-bê-đê, tức các đồng bạn của Si-môn, cũng kinh ngạc như vậy. Đức Chúa Jesus nói với Si-môn, "Đừng sợ. Từ nay trở đi ngươi sẽ thành tay đánh lưới người."11 Sau khi kéo thuyền lên bờ, họ bỏ tất cả mà theo Ngài.12 Một ngày nọ Ngài đang ở trong một thành kia; này, tại đó có một người mình đầy phung hủi. Khi thấy Đức Chúa Jesus, người ấy sấp mặt xuống đất và cầu xin Ngài, "Lạy Chúa, nếu Ngài muốn, Ngài có thể chữa cho con được sạch."13 Ngài đưa tay, chạm vào người ông, và nói, "Ta muốn. Hãy sạch đi." Ngay lập tức bịnh phung biến mất.14 Ngài bảo ông, "Đừng nói cho ai biết, nhưng hãy đi, trình diện với tư tế, và dâng một của lễ cho sự thanh sạch của ngươi theo như Mô-sê đã truyền để làm chứng cho họ."15 Tuy nhiên tin tức về Ngài đã được đồn ra khắp nơi. Quyền năng của Chúa ở trong Ngài để Ngài chữa bịnh.18 Nầy, người ta khiêng đến một người bị bại nằm trên cáng; họ tìm cách đem người ấy vào và đặt trước mặt Ngài.19 Nhưng sau khi không tìm được cách nào vì đoàn dân quá đông, họ bèn lên mái nhà, gỡ tấm bửng ra, và dòng người bại nằm trên cáng xuống giữa nhà, ngay trước mặt Đức Chúa Jesus.20 Thấy đức tin của họ, Ngài phán, "Hỡi con người, tội lỗi ngươi đã được tha."21 Bấy giờ những thầy dạy giáo luật và những người Pha-ri-si bắt đầu thắc mắc, "Người nầy là ai mà lộng ngôn như thế? Ngoại trừ một mình Đức Chúa Trời, ai có quyền tha tội?"22 Nhưng biết ý tưởng họ, Đức Chúa Jesus trả lời và nói với họ, "Tại sao tâm trí các ngươi thắc mắc như vậy?23 Điều nào dễ hơn, nói 'Tội lỗi của ngươi đã được tha,' hay nói 'Hãy đứng dậy và bước đi'?24 Nhưng để các ngươi biết Con Người có quyền tha tội trên thế gian" –Ngài phán với người bại– "Ta bảo ngươi, hãy đứng dậy, vác cáng của ngươi, và đi về nhà."25 Ngay lập tức người ấy đứng dậy trước mặt họ, vác chiếc cáng ông đã nằm, đi về nhà, và tôn vinh Đức Chúa Trời.26 Mọi người đều kinh ngạc. Họ tôn vinh Đức Chúa Trời và kinh hãi nói với nhau, "Hôm nay chúng ta đã thấy những việc thật lạ lùng."27 Sau đó, Đức Chúa Jesus đi ra và thấy một người thu thuế tên là Lê-vi, đang ngồi ở trạm thu thuế. Ngài nói với ông, "Hãy theo Ta."28 Ông bỏ mọi sự, đứng dậy, và theo Ngài.29 Bấy giờ Lê-vi tổ chức một tiệc thật linh đình tại nhà ông để thết đãi Ngài. Có rất đông người thu thuế và những người khác ngồi ăn với họ.30 Những người Pha-ri-si và các thầy dạy giáo luật phàn nàn với các môn đồ Ngài rằng, "Tại sao các ông lại ăn uống với bọn thu thuế và phường tội lỗi như thế?"31 Nhưng Đức Chúa Jesus trả lời họ, "Không phải những người mạnh khỏe cần y sĩ nhưng những người bịnh.32 Ta đến không để gọi những người công chính nhưng những kẻ tội lỗi ăn năn."33 Bấy giờ họ nói với Ngài, "Các môn đồ của Giăng thường kiêng ăn và cầu nguyện, các môn đồ của những thầy Pha-ri-si cũng làm thế, nhưng các môn đồ của Thầy thì vẫn ăn và uống như thường."34 Đức Chúa Jesus trả lời họ, "Không lẽ các ngươi bắt các quan khách đến dự tiệc cưới phải kiêng ăn trong khi chàng rể vẫn còn ở với họ sao?35 Sẽ có ngày chàng rể phải ra đi, bấy giờ họ sẽ kiêng ăn."36 Kế đó Ngài kể cho họ một ngụ ngôn, "Không ai xé một miếng vải từ chiếc áo mới để vá vào chiếc áo cũ, vì như thế áo mới sẽ rách, và miếng vải mới sẽ không hợp với chiếc áo cũ.37 Không ai đổ rượu mới vào bầu da cũ, vì như thế rượu mới sẽ làm nứt bầu da, rượu sẽ chảy ra, và bầu rượu sẽ hư.38 Nhưng rượu mới phải được chứa trong bầu da mới.39 Cũng không ai sau khi uống rượu cũ lại đòi rượu mới, vì sẽ bảo, 'Rượu cũ ngon hơn.'"

Luke 5

The Call of the Disciples

1 Nowt Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,s and the crowd was pressing around hims to hear the word of God.2 Het saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.3 He got intot one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Thent Jesust sat downt and taught the crowds from the boat.4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and lowert your nets for a catch.”5 Simont answered,t “Master,t we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your wordt I will lowert the nets.”6 Whent they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets started to tear.t7 Sot they motionedt to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they were about to sink.t8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord,s for I am a sinful man!”s9 Fors Petert and all who were with him were astonisheds at the catch of fish that they had taken,10 and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s business partners.t Thent Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now ons you will be catching people.”ts

11 Sot when they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followeds him.

Healing a Leper

12 Whilet Jesust was in one of the towns,t a man camet to him who was covered witht leprosy.s Whent he saw Jesus, he bowed down with his face to the groundt and begged him,t “Lord, ift you are willing, you can make me clean.”13 Sot he stretched out his hand and toucheds him, saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.14 Thent he ordered the mant to tell no one,s but commanded him,t “Got and show yourself to a priest, and bring the offeringt for your cleansing, as Moses commanded,s as a testimony to them.”t15 But the news about him spread even more,s and large crowds were gathering together to hear himt and to be healed of their illnesses.

16 Yet Jesus himselft frequently withdrewt to the wildernesst and prayed.

Healing and Forgiving a Paralytic

17 Now ont one of those days, while he was teaching, there were Phariseess and teachers of the lawt sitting nearby (who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem),ss and the power of the Lord was with hims to heal.18 Just thent some men showed up, carrying a paralyzed mant on a stretcher.t Theyt were trying to bring him in and place him before Jesus.t19 Butt since they foundt no way to carry him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roofs and let him down on the stretchert through the roof tilest rightt in front of Jesus.s20 Whent Jesust saw theirs faith he said, “Friend,t your sins are forgiven.”ts21 Thent the experts in the lawt and the Pharisees began to thinkt to themselves,t “Who is this mant who is uttering blasphemies?s Who can forgive sins but God alone?”22 When Jesus perceiveds their hostile thoughts,t he said to them,t “Why are you raising objectionst within yourselves?23 Which is easier,s to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’?24 But so that you may knows that the Son of Mans has authority on earth to forgive sins” – he said to the paralyzed mants – “I tell you, stand up, take your stretchert and go home.”t25 Immediatelyt he stood up before them, pickedt up the stretchert he had been lying on, and went home, glorifyings God.

26 Thent astonishmentt seized them all, and they glorifiedt God. They were filled with awe,t saying, “We have seen incrediblet thingst today.”s

The Call of Levi; Eating with Sinners

27 Aftert this, Jesust went out and saw a tax collectors named Levis sitting at the tax booth.ts “Follow me,”s he said to him.

28 And he got up and followed him, leaving everythings behind.t
29 Thent Levi gave a great banquets in his house for Jesus,t and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sittingt at the table with them.30 Butt the Phariseess and their experts in the lawt complainedt to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”s31 Jesust answered them, “Those who are well don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do.s

32 I have not comes to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”s

The Superiority of the New

33 Thent they said to him, “John’sss disciples frequently fasts and pray,t and so do the disciples of the Pharisees,s but yours continue to eat and drink.”t34 Sot Jesus said to them, “You cannot make the wedding guestst fast while the bridegrooms is with them, can you?t35 But those days are coming, and when the bridegroom is taken from them,s at that timet they will fast.”36 He also told them a parable:s “No one tears a patch from a new garment and sewst it on an old garment. If he does, he will have tornt the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.s37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins.s If he does, the new wine will burst the skins and will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed.38 Instead new wine must be poured into new wineskins.ss

39 ss Nos one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, ‘The old is good enough.’”sts
