어부들을 제자로 부르시다

(마 4:18-22; 막 1:16-20)

1  예수께서 t게네사렛 호숫가에 서 계셨다. 그 때에 무리가 예수께 밀려와 하나님의 말씀을 들었다. 2 예수께서 보시니, 배 두 척이 호숫가에 대어 있고, 어부들은 배에서 내려서, 그물을 씻고 있었다. 3 예수께서 그 배 가운데 하나인 시몬의 배에 올라서, 그에게 배를 뭍에서 조금 떼어 놓으라고 하신 다음에, 배에 앉으시어 무리를 가르치셨다. 4 예수께서 말씀을 그치시고, 시몬에게 말씀하셨다. “t깊은 데로 나가, 그물을 내려서, 고기를 잡아라.” 5 시몬이 대답하였다. “선생님, 우리가 밤새도록 애를 썼으나, 아무것도 잡지 못했습니다. 그러나 선생님의 말씀을 따라 그물을 내리겠습니다.” 6 그런 다음에, 그대로 하니, 많은 고기 떼가 걸려들어서, 그물이 찢어질 지경이었다. 7 그래서 그들은 다른 배에 있는 동료들에게 손짓하여, 와서 자기들을 도와달라고 하였다. 그들이 와서, 고기를 두 배에 가득히 채우니, 배가 가라앉을 지경이 되었다. 8 시몬 베드로가 이것을 보고, 예수의 무릎 앞에 엎드려서 말하였다. “주님, 나에게서 떠나 주십시오. 나는 죄인입니다.” 9 베드로 및 그와 함께 있는 모든 사람은, 그들이 잡은 고기가 엄청나게 많은 것에 놀랐던 것이다. 10 또한 세베대의 아들들로서 시몬의 동료인 야고보와 요한도 놀랐다. 예수께서 시몬에게 말씀하셨다. “두려워하지 말아라. 이제부터 너는 사람을 낚을 것이다.” 11 그들은 배를 뭍에 댄 뒤에, 모든 것을 버려 두고 예수를 따라갔다.

나병환자를 깨끗하게 하시다

(마 8:1-4; 막 1:40-45)

12  예수께서 어떤 동네에 계실 때에, 온 몸에 t나병이 든 사람이 찾아 왔다. 그는 예수를 보고서, 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 간청하였다. “주님, 하고자 하시면, 나를 깨끗하게 해주실 수 있습니다.” 13 예수께서 손을 내밀어서, 그에게 대시고 “그렇게 해주마. 깨끗하게 되어라” 하고 말씀하시니, 곧 나병이 그에게서 떠나갔다. 14 예수께서 그 사람에게 아무에게도 말하지 말라고 명하시고, 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “가서, 제사장에게 네 몸을 보이고, 네가 깨끗하게 된 것에 대하여 모세가 명한 대로 예물을 드려서 사람들에게 증거로 삼아라.” 15 그러나 예수의 소문이 더욱더 퍼지니, 큰 무리가 그의 말씀도 듣고, 또 자기들의 병도 고치고자 하여 모여들었다. 16 그러나 예수께서는 외딴 데로 물러가서 기도하셨다.

중풍병자를 고치시다

(마 9:1-8; 막 2:1-12)

17 어느 날 예수께서 가르치시는데, 갈릴리 및 유대의 모든 마을과 예루살렘에서 온 바리새파 사람들과 율법교사들이 둘러앉아 있었다. 주님의 능력이 함께 하시므로, 예수께서는 병을 고치셨다. 18 그런데 사람들이 중풍병에 걸린 사람을 침상에 눕힌 채로 데려와서는, 안으로 들여서, 예수 앞에 놓으려고 하였다. 19 그러나 무리 때문에 그를 안으로 들여놓을 길이 없어서, 지붕으로 올라가서, 기와를 벗겨 그 자리를 뚫고, 그 병자를 침상에 누인 채, 무리 한가운데로 예수 앞에 달아 내렸다. 20 예수께서 그들의 믿음을 보시고 말씀하셨다. “이 사람아, 네 죄가 용서받았다.” 21 그래서 율법학자들과 바리새파 사람들이 말하기를 “하나님을 모독하는 말을 하다니, 이 사람은 누구인가? 하나님 한 분 밖에, 누가 죄를 용서할 수 있는가?” 하면서, 의아하게 생각하기 시작하였다. 22 예수께서는 그들의 생각을 알아채시고 말씀하셨다. “어찌하여 너희는 마음 속으로 의아하게 생각하느냐? 23 ‘네 죄가 용서받았다’ 하고 말하는 것과 ‘일어나서 걸어가거라’ 하고 말하는 것 가운데서 어느 쪽이 더 말하기가 쉬우냐? 24 그러나 너희는 t인자가 땅에서 죄를 용서하는 권세를 가지고 있음을 알아야 한다.” 그리고 예수께서 중풍병 환자에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 너에게 말한다. 일어나서 네 침상을 치워 들고 네 집으로 가거라.” 25 그러자 곧 그는 사람들 앞에서 일어나, 자기가 누웠던 침상을 거두어 들고, 하나님을 찬양하면서, 집으로 갔다. 26 사람들은 모두 놀라서, 하나님을 찬양하였으며, 두려움에 차서 말하였다. “우리는 오늘 신기한 일을 보았다.”

레위를 부르시다

(마 9:9-13; 막 2:13-17)

27 그 뒤에 예수께서 나가셔서, 레위라는 세리가 세관에 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 그에게 말씀하셨다. “나를 따라오너라.” 28 레위는 모든 것을 버려두고, 일어나서 예수를 따라갔다. 29 레위가 자기 집에서 예수에게 큰 잔치를 베풀었는데, 많은 세리와 그 밖의 사람들이 큰 무리를 이루어서, 그들과 한 자리에 t앉아서 먹고 있었다. 30 바리새파 사람들과 그들의 율법학자들이 예수의 제자들에게 불평하면서 말하였다. “어찌하여 당신들은 세리들과 죄인들과 어울려서 먹고 마시는 거요?” 31 예수께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. “건강한 사람에게는 의사가 필요하지 않으나, 병든 사람에게는 필요하다. 32 나는 의인을 부르러 온 것이 아니라, 죄인을 불러서 회개시키러 왔다.”

금식 문제

(마 9:14-17; 막 2:18-22)

33 사람들이 예수께 말하였다. “요한의 제자들은 자주 금식하며 기도하고, 바리새파 사람의 제자들도 그렇게 하는데, 당신의 제자들은 먹고 마시는군요.” 34 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 혼인 잔치의 손님들을, 신랑이 그들과 함께 있는 동안에 금식하게 할 수 있겠느냐? 35 그러나 신랑을 빼앗길 날이 올 터인데, 그 날에는 그들이 금식할 것이다.” 36 예수께서는 그들에게 또 비유를 말씀하셨다. “새 옷에서 한 조각을 떼어내서, 낡은 옷에다가 대고 깁는 사람은 없다. 그렇게 하면, 그 새 옷은 찢어져서 못 쓰게 되고, 또 새 옷에서 떼어낸 조각은 낡은 옷에 어울리지도 않을 것이다. 37 새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에다가 넣는 사람은 없다. 그렇게 하면, 새 포도주가 그 가죽 부대를 터뜨릴 것이며, 그래서 포도주는 쏟아지고 가죽 부대는 못 쓰게 될 것이다. 38 새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣어야 한다. 39 t묵은 포도주를 마시고 나서, 새 포도주를 원하는 사람은 없다. 묵은 포도주를 마신 사람은 묵은 것이 좋다고 한다.”

Jesus Chooses His First Disciples

(Matthew 4.18-22; Mark 1.16-20)

1  t Jesus was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret, t teaching the people as they crowded around him to hear God's message. 2 Near the shore he saw two boats left there by some fishermen who had gone to wash their nets.

3 Jesus got into the boat that belonged to Simon and asked him to row it out a little way from the shore. Then Jesus sat downt in the boat to teach the crowd.

4 When Jesus had finished speaking, he told Simon, “Row the boat out into the deep water and let your nets down to catch some fish.”
5  t “Master,” Simon answered, “we have worked hard all night long and have not caught a thing. But if you tell me to, I will let the nets down.” 6 t They did this and caught so many fish that their nets began ripping apart.

7 Then they signaled for their partners in the other boat to come and help them. The men came, and together they filled the two boats so full that they both began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this happen, he knelt down in front of Jesus and said, “Lord, don't come near me! I am a sinner.” 9 Peter and everyone with him were completely surprised at all the fish they had caught.

10 His partners James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were surprised too.
Jesus told Simon, “Don't be afraid! From now on you will bring in people instead of fish.”

11 The men pulled their boats up on the shore. Then they left everything and went with Jesus.

Jesus Heals a Man

(Matthew 8.1-4; Mark 1.40-45)

12 Jesus came to a town where there was a man who had leprosy.t When the man saw Jesus, he knelt down to the ground in front of Jesus and begged, “Lord, you have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.”
13 Jesus put his hand on him and said, “I want to! Now you are well.” At once the man's leprosy disappeared.

14 t Jesus told him, “Don't tell anyone about this, but go and show yourself to the priest. Offer a gift to the priest, just as Moses commanded, and everyone will know that you have been healed.”t
15 News about Jesus kept spreading. Large crowds came to listen to him teach and to be healed of their diseases.

16 But Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray.

Jesus Heals a Man //Who Could Not Walk

(Matthew 9.1-8; Mark 2.1-12)

17 One day some Pharisees and experts in the Law of Moses sat listening to Jesus teach. They had come from every village in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem.
God had given Jesus the power to heal the sick, 18 and some people came carrying a man on a mat because he could not walk. They tried to take him inside the house and put him in front of Jesus.

19 But because of the crowd, they could not get him to Jesus. So they went up on the roof, t where they removed some tiles and let the mat down in the middle of the room.

20 When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the man, “My friend, your sins are forgiven.”

21 The Pharisees and the experts began arguing, “Jesus must think he is God! Only God can forgive sins.”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said, “Why are you thinking this? 23 Is it easier for me to tell this man that his sins are forgiven or to tell him to get up and walk?

24 But now you will see that the Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth.” Jesus then said to the man, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk home.”
25 At once the man stood up in front of everyone. He picked up his mat and went home, giving thanks to God.

26 Everyone was amazed and praised God. What they saw surprised them, and they said, “We have seen a great miracle today!”

Jesus Chooses Levi

(Matthew 9.9-13; Mark 2.13-17)

27 Later, Jesus went out and saw a tax collectort named Levi sitting at the place for paying taxes. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

28 Levi left everything and went with Jesus.

29 In his home Levi gave a big dinner for Jesus. Many tax collectors and other guests were also there.

30  t The Pharisees and some of their teachers of the Law of Moses grumbled to Jesus' disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with these tax collectors and other sinners?”
31 Jesus answered, “Healthy people don't need a doctor, but sick people do.

32 I didn't come to invite good people to turn to God. I came to invite sinners.”

33 Some people said to Jesus, “John's followers often pray and go without eating, t and so do the followers of the Pharisees. But your disciples never go without eating or drinking.”
34 Jesus told them, “The friends of a bridegroom don't go without eating while he is still with them.

35 But the time will come when he will be taken from them. Then they will go without eating.”

36 Jesus then told them these sayings:
No one uses a new piece of cloth to patch old clothes. The patch would shrink and make the hole even bigger.
37 No one pours new wine into old wineskins. The new wine would swell and burst the old skins.t Then the wine would be lost, and the skins would be ruined.

38 New wine must be put only into new wineskins.
39 No one wants new wine after drinking old wine. They say, “The old wine is better.”
