Jesus og sabbaten

(Matt 12,1–14; Mark 2,23–3,6)

1  t t En sabbat tok Jesus veien langs noen kornåkrer. Disiplene plukket aks, gned dem ut i hendene og spiste. 2 Da sa noen av fariseerne: «Hvorfor gjør dere det som ikke er tillatt på sabbaten?» 3 t Jesus svarte: «Men har dere ikke lest hva David gjorde den gang han og mennene hans sultet? 4 t Han gikk inn i Guds hus og tok skuebrødene, spiste og ga til dem som fulgte ham, enda det er bare prestene som har lov til å spise dem.»

5 Og Jesus sa til dem: «Menneskesønnen er herre over sabbaten.»
6 En annen sabbat gikk han inn i synagogen og underviste. Der var det en mann med en høyre hånd som var vissen. 7 tt De skriftlærde og fariseerne holdt øye med Jesus for å se om han ville helbrede på sabbaten, så de kunne få noe å anklage ham for. 8 Men han visste hva de tenkte, og sa til mannen med den syke hånden: «Reis deg og kom fram!» Han reiste seg og gikk fram. 9 «Nå spør jeg dere», sa Jesus, «hva er tillatt på sabbaten? Å gjøre godt eller å gjøre ondt, å berge liv eller å ødelegge liv?» 10 Han så rundt seg på dem alle og sa til mannen: «Rekk fram hånden din!» Han gjorde det, og hånden ble frisk igjen.

11 Da ble de helt fra seg av raseri og begynte å snakke sammen om hva de skulle gjøre med Jesus.

«Salige er dere fattige,
Guds rike er deres.

dere skal le.

22  t Salige er dere når folk hater dere,
når de utstøter dere og håner dere
og skyr navnet deres som noe ondt –
for Menneskesønnens skyld!

23  t Gled dere på den dagen og hopp av fryd,
stor er lønnen dere har i himmelen.
Slik gjorde også fedrene med profetene.

24  t Men ve dere rike,
dere har alt fått deres trøst.

25  t Ve dere som nå er mette,
dere skal sulte.
Ve dere som nå ler,
dere skal sørge og gråte.

26  t Ve dere når alle taler vel om dere.
Det samme gjorde også fedrene
med de falske profetene.

Elsk deres fiender

(Matt 5,38–48; 7,12)

30 Gi til hver den som ber deg, og om noen tar fra deg det som er ditt, så krev det ikke tilbake.
31 Som dere vil at andre skal gjøre mot dere, slik skal dere gjøre mot dem. 32 At dere elsker dem som elsker dere, er det noe å takke dere for? Selv synderne elsker dem de selv blir elsket av. 33 t Og om dere gjør godt mot dem som gjør godt mot dere, er det noe å takke dere for? Det gjør jo også synderne. 34 t Og om dere låner ut til dem dere venter å få igjen av, er det noe å takke dere for? Også syndere låner til syndere for å få like mye igjen.

35 Nei! Elsk deres fiender, gjør godt og lån bort uten å vente noe igjen. Da skal lønnen deres bli stor, og dere skal være Den høyestes barn. For han er god mot de utakknemlige og onde.

36  t Vær barmhjertige, slik deres Far er barmhjertig.

Døm ikke

(Matt 7,1–5)

38 Gi, så skal dere få: Et godt mål, sammenristet, stappet og breddfullt, skal dere få i fanget. For i det målet dere selv måler med, skal det også måles opp til dere.»
39  t Han fortalte dem også en lignelse: «Kan vel en blind lede en blind? Vil ikke begge falle i grøfta?

40 t En lærling står ikke over sin mester, men når han er utlært, blir han som sin mester.
41 Hvorfor ser du flisen i din brors øye, men bjelken i ditt eget øye legger du ikke merke til?

42 Hvordan kan du si til din bror: ‘Bror, la meg ta flisen ut av øyet ditt!’ når du ikke ser bjelken i ditt eget øye? Din hykler! Ta først bjelken ut av ditt eget øye! Da vil du se klart nok til å ta flisen ut av øyet til din bror.

45 Et godt menneske bringer fram godt av hjertets gode forråd, et ondt menneske bringer fram ondt av hjertets onde forråd. For det hjertet er fullt av, det sier munnen.

Lord of the Sabbath

1 Jesust was going through the grain fields ont a Sabbath,s and his disciples picked some heads of wheat,t rubbed them in their hands, and ate them.t2 But some of the Phariseess said, “Why are yout doing what is against the laws on the Sabbath?”3 Jesust answered them,t “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –4 how he entered the house of God, tookt and ate the sacred bread,ts which is not lawfuls for any to eat but the priests alone, ands gave it to his companions?”ss

5 Thent he said to them, “The Son of Man is lordts of the Sabbath.”

Healing a Withered Hand

6 Ont another Sabbath, Jesust entered the synagogues and was teaching. Nowt a man was there whose right hand was withered.ts7 The experts in the lawt and the Phariseess watcheds Jesust closely to see ift he would heal on the Sabbath,s so that they could find a reason to accuse him.8 Butt he knews their thoughts,t and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Get up and stand here.”s Sot he rose and stood there.9 Thent Jesus said to them, “I ask you,s is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”10 Aftert looking aroundt at them all, he said to the man,t “Stretch out your hand.” The mant did so, and his hand was restored.s

11 But they were filled with mindless raget and began debating with one another what they would dot to Jesus.

Choosing the Twelve Apostles

12 Nowt it was during this time that Jesust went out to the mountaints to pray, and he spent all nights in prayer to God.t13 Whent morning came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles:s14 Simons (whom he named Peter), and his brother Andrew; and James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,s15 Matthew, Thomas,s James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot,s

16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot,s who became a traitor.

The Sermon on the Plain

17 Thent he came down with them and stood on a level place.t And a large numbert of his disciples had gatheredtt along witht a vast multitude from all over Judea, fromt Jerusalem,s and from the seacoast of Tyres and Sidon.ss They came to hear him and to be healeds of their diseases,18 and those who suffered fromt uncleans spirits were cured.

19 Thet whole crowd was trying to touch him, because powers was coming out from him and healing them all.

20 Thent he looked upt at his disciples and said:
“Blesseds are you who are poor,s for the kingdom of God belongss to you.

21 “Blessed are you who hungers now, for you will be satisfied.s
“Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.s
22 “Blessed are you when peoplet hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evilts on account of the Son of Man!

23 Rejoice in that day, and jump for joy, becauset your reward is great in heaven. For their ancestorst did the same things to the prophets.s

24 “But woes to you who are rich, for you have receiveds your comfortt already.

25 “Woe to you who are well satisfied with foodt now, for you will be hungry.
“Woe to yous who laughs now, for you will mourn and weep.

26 “Woe to yous when all peoplet speak well of you, for their ancestorst did the same things to the false prophets.
27 “But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies,s do good to those who hate you,28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreatt you.29 To the person who strikes you on the cheek,s offer the other as well,s and from the person who takes away your coat,t do not withhold your tunict either.s30 Give to everyone who asks you,s and do not ask for your possessionst backs from the person who takes them away.

31 Treat otherst in the same way that you would want them to treat you.s
32 “Ift you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinnerss love those who love them.s33 Ands if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Evens sinnerss do the same.34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to be repaid,t what credit is that to you? Even sinnerss lend to sinners, so that they may be repaid in full.t35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back.t Thent your reward will be great, and you will be sonss of the Most High,s because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people.t

36 Be merciful,s just as your Father is merciful.

Do Not Judge Others

37 “Dot not judge,s and you will not be judged;s do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive,s and you will be forgiven.

38 Give, and it will be given to you: A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over,s will be pouredt into your lap. For the measure you use will be the measure you receive.”t
39 He also told them a parable: “Someone who is blind cannot lead another who is blind, can he?t Won’t they both falls into a pit?40 A disciplet is not greater thant his teacher, but everyone when fully trained will be like his teacher.41 Whyt do you see the specks in your brother’s eye, but fail to seet the beam of woods in your own?

42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck from your eye,’ while you yourself don’t see the beam in your own? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
43 “Fort no good tree bears badt fruit, nor agains does a bad tree bear good fruit,44 for each tree is knowns by its own fruit. For figs are not gatheredt from thorns, nor are grapes pickedt from brambles.ts

45 The good person out of the good treasury of hist hearts produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasuryt produces evil, for his mouth speakss from what fillst his heart.

46 “Whyt do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’t and don’t do what I tell you?s
47 “Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practicet – I will show you what he is like:48 He is like a mant building a house, who dug down deep,t and laid the foundation on bedrock. Whent a flood came, the rivers burst against that house butt could not shake it, because it had been well built.s

49 But the person who hears and does not put my words into practicet is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. Whent the river burst against that house,t it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!”ts
