Gesù, Signore del sabato

(Mat. 12.1-8 e rif.)

1 OR avvenne, nel primo sabato dal dì appresso la pasquat, ch'egli camminava per le biade; e i suoi discepoli svellevano delle spighe, e le mangiavano, sfregandole con le mani.
2 Ed alcuni de'~Farisei disser loro: Perchè fate ciò che non è lecito di fare nei giorni di sabato? 3 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Non avete voi pur letto ciò che fece Davide, quando ebbe fame, egli, e coloro ch'eran con lui?

4 Come egli entrò nella casa di Dio, e prese i pani di presentazione, e ne mangiò, e ne diede ancora a coloro ch' eran con lui; i quali però non è lecito di mangiare, se non a'~sacerdoti soli?

5 Poi disse loro: Il Figliuol dell'uomo è Signore eziandio del sabato.

Guarigione dell'uomo dalla mano secca

(Mat. 12.9-14 e rif.)

7 E i Farisei e gli Scribi l'osservavano, se lo guarirebbe nel sabato; per trovar di che accusarlo.
8 Ma egli conosceva i lor pensieri, e disse all'uomo che avea la man secca: Levati, e sta'~in piè ivi in mezzo. Ed egli, levatosi, stette in piè. 9 Gesù adunque disse loro: Io vi domando: Che? è egli lecito di far bene o male, ne'~sabati? di salvar una persona, o d'ucciderla?

10 E guardatili tutti d'intorno, disse a quell'uomo: Distendi la tua mano. Ed egli fece così. E la sua mano fu resa sana come l'altra.

11 Ed essi furono ripieni di furore, e ragionavano fra loro, che cosa farebbero a Gesù.

Elezione de'~dodici

(Mat. 10.1-4 e rif.)

12 OR avvenne, in que'~giorni, ch'egli uscì al monte, per orare, e passò la notte in orazione a Diot.
13 E quando fu giorno, chiamò a sè i suoi discepoli, e ne elesse dodici, i quali ancora nominò Apostoli; 14 cioè: Simone, il quale ancora nominò Pietro, ed Andrea, suo fratello; Giacomo, e Giovanni; Filippo, e Bartolomeo; 15 Matteo, e Toma; Giacomo di Alfeo, e Simone, chiamato Zelote;

16 Giuda, fratel di Giacomo, e Giuda Iscariot, il quale ancora fu traditore.

Il sermone appiè del monte

19 E tutta la moltitudine cercava di toccarlot, perciocchè virtù usciva di luit, e li sanava tutti.

20 Ed egli, alzati gli occhi verso i suoi discepoli, diceva:
Beati voi, poverit, perciocchè il regno di Dio è vostro.

21 Beati voi, che ora avete fame, perciocchè sarete saziatit.
Beati voi, che ora piangetet, perciocchè voi riderete.
22 Voi sarete beati, quando gli uomini vi avranno odiatit, e vi avranno scomunicatit, e vituperati, ed avranno bandito il vostro nome, come malvagio, per cagion del Figliuol dell'uomo.

23 Rallegratevi, e saltate di letizia in quel giorno; perciocchè, ecco, il vostro premio è grande nei cieli; poichè il simigliante fecero i padri loro a'~profeti.

24 Ma, guai a voi, ricchit! perciocchè voi avete la vostra consolazionet.

25 Guai a voi, che siete ripieni! perciocchè voi avrete famet.
Guai a voi, che ora ridete! perciocchè voi farete cordoglio, e piangeretet.

26 Guai a voi, quando tutti gli uomini diranno bene di voit! poichè il simigliante fecero i padri loro a'~falsi profeti.
27 Ma io dico a voi che udite: Amate i vostri nemici; fate bene a coloro che vi odianot; 28 benedite coloro che vi maledicono; e pregate per coloro che vi molestano. 29 Se alcuno ti percuote su di una guancia, porgigli eziandio l'altrat; e non divietar colui che ti toglie il mantello di prendere ancora la tonica. 30 E da'~a chiunque ti chiedet; e se alcuno ti toglie il tuo, non ridomandarglielo. 31 E, come voi volete che gli uomini vi facciano, fate ancor loro simigliantementet. 32 E se amate coloro che vi amano, che grazia ne avrete? poichè i peccatori ancora amano coloro che li amano. 33 E se fate bene a coloro che fan bene a voi, che grazia ne avrete? poichè i peccatori fanno il simigliante. 34 E se prestate a coloro da'~quali sperate riaverlo, che grazie ne avrete? poichè i peccatori prestano a'~peccatori, per riceverne altrettanto. 35 Ma voi, amate i vostri nemicit, e fate bene, e prestate, non isperandone nulla; e il vostro premio sarà grande, e sarete i figliuoli dell'Altissimo; poichè egli è benigno inverso gl'ingrati, e malvagit.

36 Siate adunque misericordiosi, siccome ancora il Padre vostro è misericordiosot.
37 E non giudicate, e non sarete giudicatit; non condannate, e non sarete condannati; rimettete, e vi sarà rimesso.

38 Date, e vi sarà datot; buona misura, premuta, scossa, e traboccante, vi sarà data in seno; perciocchè, di qual misura misurate, sarà altresì misurato a voi.

39 Or egli disse loro una similitudine. Può un cieco guidar per la via un altro cieco? non caderanno essi amendue nella fossat?

40 Niun discepolo è da più del suo maestrot; ma ogni discepolo perfetto dev'essere come il suo maestro.
41 Ora, che guardi tu il fuscello ch' è nell'occhio del tuo fratello, e non iscorgi la trave ch' è nell'occhio tuo propriot?

42 Ovvero, come puoi dire al tuo fratello: Fratello, lascia che io ti tragga il fuscello ch' è nell'occhio tuo; non veggendo tu stesso la trave ch' è nell'occhio tuo proprio? Ipocrita, trai prima dell'occhio tuo la trave, ed allora ci vedrai bene per trarre il fuscello, ch' è nell'occhio del tuo fratello.
43 Perciocchè non vi è buon albero, che faccia frutto cattivo; nè albero cattivo, che faccia buon frutto. 44 Perciocchè ogni albero è riconosciuto dal proprio frutto; poichè non si colgono fichi dalle spine, e non si vendemmiano uve dal prunot.

45 L'uomo buono, dal buon tesoro del suo cuore, reca fuori il bene; e l'uomo malvagio, dal malvagio tesoro del suo cuore, reca fuori il male; perciocchè la sua bocca parla di ciò che gli soprabbonda nel cuoret.
46 Ora, perchè mi chiamate Signore, e non fate le cose che io dicot? 47 Chiunque viene a me, e ode le mie parole, e le mette ad effetto, io vi mostrerò a cui egli è similet. 48 Egli è simile ad un uomo che edifica una casa, il quale ha cavato, e profondato, ed ha posto il fondamento sopra la pietra; ed essendo venuta una piena, il torrente ha urtata quella casa, e non l' ha potuta scrollare, perciocchè era fondata in su la pietra. 49 Ma chi le ha udite, e non le ha messe ad effetto, è simile ad un uomo che ha edificata una casa sopra la terra, senza fondamento; la quale il torrente avendo urtata, ella è di subito caduta, e la sua ruina è stata grande.

Luke 6

Lord of the Sabbath

1 Jesust was going through the grain fields ont a Sabbath,s and his disciples picked some heads of wheat,t rubbed them in their hands, and ate them.t2 But some of the Phariseess said, “Why are yout doing what is against the laws on the Sabbath?”3 Jesust answered them,t “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry –4 how he entered the house of God, tookt and ate the sacred bread,ts which is not lawfuls for any to eat but the priests alone, ands gave it to his companions?”ss

5 Thent he said to them, “The Son of Man is lordts of the Sabbath.”

Healing a Withered Hand

6 Ont another Sabbath, Jesust entered the synagogues and was teaching. Nowt a man was there whose right hand was withered.ts7 The experts in the lawt and the Phariseess watcheds Jesust closely to see ift he would heal on the Sabbath,s so that they could find a reason to accuse him.8 Butt he knews their thoughts,t and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Get up and stand here.”s Sot he rose and stood there.9 Thent Jesus said to them, “I ask you,s is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”10 Aftert looking aroundt at them all, he said to the man,t “Stretch out your hand.” The mant did so, and his hand was restored.s

11 But they were filled with mindless raget and began debating with one another what they would dot to Jesus.

Choosing the Twelve Apostles

12 Nowt it was during this time that Jesust went out to the mountaints to pray, and he spent all nights in prayer to God.t13 Whent morning came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles:s14 Simons (whom he named Peter), and his brother Andrew; and James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,s15 Matthew, Thomas,s James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot,s

16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot,s who became a traitor.

The Sermon on the Plain

17 Thent he came down with them and stood on a level place.t And a large numbert of his disciples had gatheredtt along witht a vast multitude from all over Judea, fromt Jerusalem,s and from the seacoast of Tyres and Sidon.ss They came to hear him and to be healeds of their diseases,18 and those who suffered fromt uncleans spirits were cured.

19 Thet whole crowd was trying to touch him, because powers was coming out from him and healing them all.

20 Thent he looked upt at his disciples and said:
“Blesseds are you who are poor,s for the kingdom of God belongss to you.

21 “Blessed are you who hungers now, for you will be satisfied.s
“Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.s
22 “Blessed are you when peoplet hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evilts on account of the Son of Man!

23 Rejoice in that day, and jump for joy, becauset your reward is great in heaven. For their ancestorst did the same things to the prophets.s

24 “But woes to you who are rich, for you have receiveds your comfortt already.

25 “Woe to you who are well satisfied with foodt now, for you will be hungry.
“Woe to yous who laughs now, for you will mourn and weep.

26 “Woe to yous when all peoplet speak well of you, for their ancestorst did the same things to the false prophets.
27 “But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies,s do good to those who hate you,28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreatt you.29 To the person who strikes you on the cheek,s offer the other as well,s and from the person who takes away your coat,t do not withhold your tunict either.s30 Give to everyone who asks you,s and do not ask for your possessionst backs from the person who takes them away.

31 Treat otherst in the same way that you would want them to treat you.s
32 “Ift you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinnerss love those who love them.s33 Ands if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Evens sinnerss do the same.34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to be repaid,t what credit is that to you? Even sinnerss lend to sinners, so that they may be repaid in full.t35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back.t Thent your reward will be great, and you will be sonss of the Most High,s because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people.t

36 Be merciful,s just as your Father is merciful.

Do Not Judge Others

37 “Dot not judge,s and you will not be judged;s do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive,s and you will be forgiven.

38 Give, and it will be given to you: A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over,s will be pouredt into your lap. For the measure you use will be the measure you receive.”t
39 He also told them a parable: “Someone who is blind cannot lead another who is blind, can he?t Won’t they both falls into a pit?40 A disciplet is not greater thant his teacher, but everyone when fully trained will be like his teacher.41 Whyt do you see the specks in your brother’s eye, but fail to seet the beam of woods in your own?

42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck from your eye,’ while you yourself don’t see the beam in your own? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
43 “Fort no good tree bears badt fruit, nor agains does a bad tree bear good fruit,44 for each tree is knowns by its own fruit. For figs are not gatheredt from thorns, nor are grapes pickedt from brambles.ts

45 The good person out of the good treasury of hist hearts produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasuryt produces evil, for his mouth speakss from what fillst his heart.

46 “Whyt do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’t and don’t do what I tell you?s
47 “Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practicet – I will show you what he is like:48 He is like a mant building a house, who dug down deep,t and laid the foundation on bedrock. Whent a flood came, the rivers burst against that house butt could not shake it, because it had been well built.s

49 But the person who hears and does not put my words into practicet is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. Whent the river burst against that house,t it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!”ts
