Jesus og sabbaten
(Matt 12,1–14; Mark 2,23–3,6)
1 Ein sabbat bar det så til at Jesus gjekk gjennom ein kornåker, og læresveinane reiv av aks, gneid dei mellom hendene og åt. 2 Då sa nokre av farisearane: «Kvifor gjer de slikt som ingen har lov til å gjera på sabbaten?» 3 Jesus svara: «Har de ikkje lese kva David gjorde den gongen han og mennene hans var svoltne? t 4 Han gjekk inn i Guds hus, tok skodebrøda og åt og gav dei som fylgde han. Og dei brøda er det berre prestane som har lov å eta.»
5 Og Jesus sa til dei: «Menneskesonen er herre over sabbaten.»
6 Ein annan sabbat gjekk han inn i ei synagoge og lærte. Der var det ein mann som var lam i høgre handa. 7 Dei skriftlærde og farisearane heldt auga med Jesus, om han ville lækja på sabbaten, så dei kunne få noko å klaga han for. t 8 Men han kjende tankane deira og sa til mannen med den lame handa: «Reis deg opp og kom fram!» Han reiste seg og gjekk fram. 9 «No spør eg dykk,» sa Jesus, «kva har ein lov til på sabbaten? Å gjera godt eller å gjera vondt, berga liv eller øyda liv?» 10 Han såg rundt på dei alle og sa til mannen: «Rett ut handa di!» Han så gjorde, og handa hans vart god att.
11 Då vart dei så harme at dei var reint ifrå seg, og tala med kvarandre om kva dei skulle gjera med Jesus.Jesus kallar dei tolv apostlane

12 I dei dagane hende det at han gjekk opp i fjellet og ville be, og han var der heile natta i bøn til Gud. 13 Då det vart dag, kalla han til seg læresveinane sine og valde ut tolv; dei kalla han apostlar. t 14 Det var Simon, som han òg kalla Peter, og Andreas, bror hans, Jakob og Johannes, Filip og Bartolomeus, 15 Matteus og Tomas, Jakob, son til Alfeus, og Simon som dei kalla seloten, t

17 Så gjekk han ned att i lag med dei og vart ståande på ei slette. Der var ein stor flokk av læresveinane hans samla og ei mengd med folk frå heile Judea og Jerusalem og frå sjøbygdene ved Tyrus og Sidon. 18 Dei var komne og ville høyra han og verta lækte for sjukdomane sine. Dei som var plaga av ureine ånder, vart òg gode att. t
19 Og alt folket prøvde å få ta i han, for ut frå han gjekk det ei kraft som lækte alle.tBergpreika

Sæle og usæle menneske
(Matt 5,1–12)
20 Då såg han opp, feste augo på læresveinane og sa:t
Sæle de fattige!
Guds rike er dykkar.
21 Sæle de som no svelt!
De skal mettast.
Sæle de som no græt!
De skal le. t
22 Sæle er de når folk hatar dykk,
når dei støyter dykk ut ¬og spottar dykk
og skyr namnet dykkar ¬som noko vondt –
for Menneskesonen skuld! t
23 Gled dykk då og hoppa av fryd,
for stor er løna dykkar ¬i himmelen.
Det same gjorde fedrane deira ¬med profetane. t
24 Men ve dykk rike,
de har alt fått dykkar trøyst. t
25 Ve dykk som no er mette,
de skal svelta.
Ve dykk som no ler,
de skal syrgja og gråta. t
26 Ve dykk når alle talar vel ¬om dykk.

27 Men til dykk som høyrer på meg, seier eg: Elska fiendane dykkar, gjer vel mot dei som hatar dykk, 28 velsigna dei som bannar dykk, og bed for dei som talar ille om dykk. t 29 Slår nokon dykk på det eine kinnet, så byd fram det andre òg. Tek nokon kappa frå deg, så nekta han ikkje skjorta heller. 30 Gjev kvar den som bed deg; og tek nokon frå deg det som ditt er, skal du ikkje krevja det att.
31 Som de vil at andre skal gjera mot dykk, så skal de gjera mot dei.
32 Om de elskar dei som elskar dykk, er det noko å takka dykk for? Jamvel syndarane elskar når nokon elskar dei. 33 Og om de gjer vel mot dei som gjer vel mot dykk, er det noko å takka dykk for? Det gjer syndarane òg. t 34 Og om de låner til dei som de ventar å få att av, er det noko å takka dykk for? Syndarar låner òg til syndarar når dei kan få like mykje att. t
35 Nei, elska fiendane dykkar, gjer vel og lån bort utan å venta noko att. Då skal løna dykkar vera stor, og de skal vera born åt Den Høgste. For han er god mot dei utakksame og vonde.
36 Ver miskunnsame, som Far dykkar er miskunnsam.tDøm ikkje!
(Matt 7,1–5)
37 Døm ikkje, så skal de ikkje dømast. Fordøm ikkje, så skal de ikkje fordømast. Ettergjev, så skal de få ettergjeving.
38 Gjev, så skal de få: Eit godt, stappa, rist og overfylt mål skal de få i fanget. For med det målet de sjølve mæler med, skal det mælast opp til dykk.
39 Han fortalde dei òg ei likning: Kan ein blind leia ein blind? Kjem dei ikkje begge til å falla i grøfta? t 40 Ein læregut står ikkje over meisteren, men når han er utlært, vert han lik meisteren sin. t 41 Kvifor ser du flisa i auga åt bror din, men bjelken i ditt eige auga vert du ikkje var?
42 Og korleis kan du seia til bror din: «Bror, lat meg ta flisa ut or auga ditt,» du som ikkje ser bjelken i ditt eige auga? Din hyklar! Ta fyrst bjelken ut or ditt eige auga. Då ser du klårt og kan ta flisa ut or auga på bror din.Treet og fruktene
(Matt 7,17–20; 12,33–35)
43 Det finst ikkje noko godt tre som ber ring frukt, heller ikkje noko ringt tre som ber god frukt. 44 Treet kjenner ein på frukta. Ein plukkar ikkje fiken av tistlar og haustar ikkje druer av klunger.
45 Eit godt menneske ber fram godt av det gode han gøymer i hjarta, og eit vondt menneske ber fram vondt av det vonde han gøymer på. For det hjarta er fullt av, det talar munnen.Huset bygt på fjell
(Matt 7,21–27)
46 Kvifor kallar de meg: Herre, Herre! og gjer ikkje det eg seier? t 47 Eg skal syna dykk kven han er lik, kvar den som kjem til meg og høyrer orda mine og gjer etter dei: 48 Han er lik ein mann som ville byggja eit hus, og grov djupt og la grunnmuren på fjell. Då flaumen kom, og straumen braut mot huset, kunne han ikkje rikka det, av di det var godt bygt. 49 Men den som høyrer, og ikkje gjer etter det, han er lik ein mann som bygde huset sitt på berre bakken, utan grunnmur. Då straumen braut mot huset, datt det med ein gong, og heile huset rasa saman.t

A Question about the Sabbath
(Matthew 12.1-8; Mark 2.23-28)
1 t One Sabbath when Jesus and his disciples were walking through some wheat fields, t the disciples picked some wheat. They rubbed the husks off with their hands and started eating the grain.
2 Some Pharisees said, “Why are you picking grain on the Sabbath? You're not supposed to do that!”
3 t Jesus answered, “You surely have read what David did when he and his followers were hungry.
4 t He went into the house of God and took the sacred loaves of bread that only priests were supposed to eat. He not only ate some himself, but even gave some to his followers.”
5 Jesus finished by saying, “The Son of Man is Lord over the Sabbath.”A Man with a Paralyzed Hand
(Matthew 12.9-14; Mark 3.1-6)
6 On another Sabbatht Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, and a man with a paralyzed right hand was there.
7 Some Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses kept watching Jesus to see if he would heal the man. They did this because they wanted to accuse Jesus of doing something wrong.
8 Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he told the man to stand up where everyone could see him. And the man stood up.
9 Then Jesus asked, “On the Sabbath should we do good deeds or evil deeds? Should we save someone's life or destroy it?”
10 After he had looked around at everyone, he told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did, and his bad hand became completely well.

12 About that time Jesus went off to a mountain to pray, and he spent the whole night there. 13 The next morning he called his disciples together and chose twelve of them to be his apostles. 14 One was Simon, and Jesus named him Peter. Another was Andrew, Peter's brother. There were also James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus. (Matthew 4.23-25)
17 Jesus and his apostles went down from the mountain and came to some flat, level ground. Many other disciples were there to meet him. Large crowds of people from all over Judea, Jerusalem, and the coastal towns of Tyre and Sidon were there too. 18 These people had come to listen to Jesus and to be healed of their diseases. All who were troubled by evil spirits were also healed.
19 Everyone was trying to touch Jesus, because power was going out from him and healing them all.Blessings and Troubles
(Matthew 5.1-12)
20 Jesus looked at his disciples and said:
God will bless you people
who are poor.
His kingdom belongs to you!
21 God will bless
you hungry people.
You will have plenty
to eat!
God will bless you people
who are now crying.
You will laugh!
22 t God will bless you when others hate you and won't have anything to do with you. God will bless you when people insult you and say cruel things about you, all because you are a follower of the Son of Man.
23 t Long ago your own people did these same things to the prophets. So when this happens to you, be happy and jump for joy! You will have a great reward in heaven.
24 But you rich people
are in for trouble.
You have already had
an easy life!
25 You well-fed people
are in for trouble.
You will go hungry!
You people
who are laughing now
are in for trouble.
You are going to cry
and weep!
26 You are in for trouble when everyone says good things about you. That is what your own people said about those prophets who told lies.Love for Enemies
(Matthew 5.38-48; 7.12a)
27 This is what I say to all who will listen to me:
Love your enemies, and be good to everyone who hates you. 28 Ask God to bless anyone who curses you, and pray for everyone who is cruel to you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, don't stop that person from slapping you on the other cheek. If someone wants to take your coat, don't try to keep back your shirt. 30 Give to everyone who asks and don't ask people to return what they have taken from you.
31 t Treat others just as you want to be treated.
32 If you love only someone who loves you, will God praise you for that? Even sinners love people who love them. 33 If you are kind only to someone who is kind to you, will God be pleased with you for that? Even sinners are kind to people who are kind to them.
34 If you lend money only to someone you think will pay you back, will God be pleased with you for that? Even sinners lend to sinners because they think they will get it all back.
35 t But love your enemies and be good to them. Lend without expecting to be paid back.t Then you will get a great reward, and you will be the true children of God in heaven. He is good even to people who are unthankful and cruel.
36 Have pity on others, just as your Father has pity on you.Judging Others
(Matthew 7.1-5)
37 Jesus said:
Don't judge others, and God won't judge you. Don't be hard on others, and God won't be hard on you. Forgive others, and God will forgive you.
38 If you give to others, you will be given a full amount in return. It will be packed down, shaken together, and spilling over into your lap. The way you treat others is the way you will be treated.
39 t Jesus also used some sayings as he spoke to the people. He said:
Can one blind person lead another blind person? Won't they both fall into a ditch?
40 t Are students better than their teacher? But when they are fully trained, they will be like their teacher.
41 You can see the speck in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye.
42 How can you say, “My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you don't see the log in your own eye? You show-offs! First, get the log out of your own eye; then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye.A Tree and Its Fruit
(Matthew 7.17-20; 12.34b,35)
43 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. 44 t You can tell what a tree is like by the fruit it produces. You cannot pick figs or grapes from thornbushes.
45 t Good people do good things because of the good in their hearts, but bad people do bad things because of the evil in their hearts. Your words show what is in your heart.Two Builders
(Matthew 7.24-27)
46 Why do you keep on saying that I am your Lord, when you refuse to do what I say? 47 Anyone who comes and listens to me and obeys me 48 is like someone who dug down deep and built a house on solid rock. When a flood came and the river rushed against the house, it was built so well that it didn't even shake. 49 But anyone who hears what I say and doesn't obey me is like someone whose house wasn't built on solid rock. As soon as the river rushed against that house, it was smashed to pieces!
