누가복음서 7

백부장의 종을 낫게 하시다

(마 8:5-13; 요 4:43-54)

1  예수께서 자기의 모든 말씀을 백성들에게 들려주신 뒤에, 가버나움으로 가셨다. 2 어떤 백부장의 종이 병들어 거의 죽게 되었는데, 그는 주인에게 소중한 종이었다. 3 그 백부장이 예수의 소문을 듣고, 유대 사람들의 장로들을 예수께로 보내어 그에게 청하기를, 와서 자기 종을 낫게 해달라고 하였다. 4 그들이 예수께로 와서, 간곡히 탄원하기를 “그는 선생님에게서 은혜를 받을 만한 사람입니다. 5 그는 우리 민족을 사랑하는 사람이고, 우리에게 회당을 지어주었습니다” 하였다. 6 예수께서 그들과 함께 가셨다. 예수께서 백부장의 집에서 그리 멀지 않은 곳에 이르렀을 때에, 백부장은 친구들을 보내어, 예수께 이렇게 아뢰게 하였다. “주님, 더 수고하실 것 없습니다. 저는 주님을 내 집에 모셔들일 만한 자격이 없습니다. 7 그래서 내가 주님께로 나아올 엄두도 못 냈습니다. 그저 말씀만 하셔서, 내 종을 낫게 해주십시오. 8 나도 상관을 모시는 사람이고, 내 밑에도 병사들이 있어서, 내가 이 사람더러 가라고 하면 가고, 저 사람더러 오라고 하면 옵니다. 또 내 종더러 이것을 하라고 하면 합니다.” 9 예수께서 이 말을 들으시고, 그를 놀랍게 여기시어, 돌아서서, 자기를 따라오는 무리에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 너희에게 말한다. 나는 이스라엘 사람 가운데서는, 아직 이런 믿음을 본 일이 없다.” 10 심부름 왔던 사람들이 집에 돌아가서 보니, 종은 나아 있었다.

과부의 아들을 살리시다

11  t그 뒤에 곧 예수께서 나인이라는 성읍으로 가시게 되었는데, 제자들과 큰 무리가 그와 동행하였다. 12 예수께서 성문에 가까이 이르셨을 때에, 사람들이 한 죽은 사람을 메고 나오고 있었다. 그 죽은 사람은 그의 어머니의 외아들이고, 그 여자는 과부였다. 그런데 그 성의 많은 사람이 그 여자와 함께 따라오고 있었다. 13 주님께서 그 여자를 보시고, 가엾게 여기셔서 말씀하셨다. “울지 말아라.” 14 그리고 앞으로 나아가서, 관에 손을 대시니, 메고 가는 사람들이 멈추어 섰다. 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “젊은이야, 내가 네게 말한다. 일어나라.” 15 그러자 죽은 사람이 일어나 앉아서, 말을 하기 시작하였다. 예수께서 그를 그 어머니에게 돌려주셨다. 16 그래서 모두 두려움에 사로잡혀서, 하나님을 찬양하면서 말하기를 “우리에게 큰 예언자가 나타났다” 하고, 또 “하나님께서 자기 백성을 돌보아주셨다” 하였다. 17 예수의 이 이야기가 온 유대와 그 주위에 있는 모든 지역에 퍼졌다.

세례자 요한이 보낸 사람들에게 답변하시다

(마 11:2-19)

18  요한의 제자들이 이 모든 일을 요한에게 알렸다. 요한은 자기 제자 가운데서 두 사람을 불러, 19 주님께로 보내어 “선생님이 오실 그분입니까? 그렇지 않으면, 우리가 다른 분을 기다려야 합니까?” 하고 물어 보게 하였다. 20 그 사람들이 예수께 와서 말하였다. “t세례자 요한이 우리를 선생님께로 보내어 ‘선생님이 오실 그분입니까? 그렇지 않으면, 우리가 다른 분을 기다려야 합니까?’ 하고 물어 보라고 하였습니다.” 21 그 때에 예수께서는 질병과 고통과 악령으로 시달리는 사람을 많이 고쳐주시고, 또 눈먼 많은 사람을 볼 수 있게 해주셨다. 22 예수께서 그들에게 이렇게 대답하셨다. “너희가 보고 들은 것을, 가서 요한에게 알려라. 눈먼 사람이 다시 보고, 다리 저는 사람이 걷고, t나병환자가 깨끗해지고, 귀먹은 사람이 듣고, 죽은 사람이 살아나고, 가난한 사람이 복음을 듣는다. 23 t나에게 걸려 넘어지지 않는 사람은 복이 있다.” 24  요한의 심부름꾼들이 떠난 뒤에, 예수께서 요한에 대하여 무리에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 무엇을 보러 광야에 나갔더냐? 바람에 흔들리는 갈대냐? 25 아니면, 무엇을 보러 나갔더냐? 비단 옷을 입은 사람이냐? 화려한 옷을 입고 호사스럽게 사는 사람은 왕궁에 있다. 26 아니면, 무엇을 보러 나갔더냐? 예언자를 보려고 나갔더냐? 그렇다. 내가 너희에게 말한다. 그는 예언자보다 더 위대한 인물이다. 27 이 사람에 대하여 성경에 기록하기를 t‘보아라. 내가 내 심부름꾼을 너보다 앞서 보낸다. 그가 네 앞에서 네 길을 닦을 것이다’ 하였다.

28 내가 너희에게 말한다. 여자가 낳은 사람 가운데서, t세례자 요한보다 더 큰 인물이 없다. 그러나 하나님 나라에서는 가장 작은 자라도 요한보다 더 크다.” 29 (모든 백성과 심지어는 세리들까지도 요한의 설교를 듣고, 그의 t세례를 받았다. 이렇게 하여 그들은 하나님의 옳으심을 드러냈다. 30 그러나 바리새파 사람들과 율법학자들은 요한에게서 t세례를 받지 않음으로써 자기들에 대한 하나님의 계획을 물리쳤다.) 31 “그러니, 이 세대 사람을 무엇에 비길까? 그들은 무엇과 같은가? 32 그들은 마치 어린이들이 장터에 앉아서, 서로 부르며 말하기를 ‘우리가 너희에게 피리를 불어도, 너희는 춤추지 않았고, 우리가 애곡을 하여도 너희는 울지 않았다’ 하는 것과 같다.

33 t세례자 요한이 와서, 빵도 먹지 않고 포도주도 마시지 않으니, 너희가 말하기를 ‘그는 귀신이 들렸다’ 하고, 34 인자는 와서, 먹기도 하고 마시기도 하니, 너희가 말하기를 ‘보아라, 저 사람은 마구 먹어대는 자요, 포도주를 마시는 자요, 세리와 죄인의 친구다’ 한다. 35 그러나 지혜의 자녀들이 결국 t지혜가 옳다는 것을 드러냈다.”

죄인인 한 여인이 예수께 향유를 붓다

36  바리새파 사람 가운데에서 어떤 사람이 예수께 청하여, 자기와 함께 음식을 먹자고 하였다. 그래서 예수께서는 그 바리새파 사람의 집에 들어가셔서, 상에 앉으셨다. 37 그런데 그 동네에 죄인인 한 여자가 있었는데, 예수께서 바리새파 사람의 집에서 음식을 잡숫고 계신 것을 알고서, 향유가 담긴 옥합을 가지고 와서, 38 예수의 등 뒤에 발 곁에 서더니, 울면서, 눈물로 그 발을 적시고, 자기 머리털로 닦고, 그 발에 입을 맞추고, 향유를 발랐다. 39 예수를 초대한 바리새파 사람이 이것을 보고, 혼자 중얼거렸다. “이 사람이 예언자라면, 자기를 만지는 저 여자가 누구이며, 어떠한 여자인지 알았을 터인데! 그 여자는 죄인인데!” 40 예수께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “시몬아, 네게 할 말이 있다.” 시몬이 말했다. “선생님, 말씀하십시오.” 예수께서 말씀하셨다. 41 “어떤 돈놀이꾼에게 빚진 사람 둘이 있었는데, 한 사람은 오백 t데나리온을 빚지고, 또 한 사람은 오십 데나리온을 빚졌다. 42 둘이 다 갚을 길이 없으므로, 돈놀이꾼은 둘에게 빚을 없애주었다. 그러면 그 두 사람 가운데서 누가 그를 더 사랑하겠느냐?” 43 시몬이 대답하였다. “더 많이 빚을 없애준 사람이라고 생각합니다.” 예수께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “네 판단이 옳다.” 44 그런 다음에, 그 여자에게로 돌아서서, 시몬에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 이 여자를 보고 있는 거지? 내가 네 집에 들어왔을 때에, 너는 내게 발 씻을 물도 주지 않았다. 그러나 이 여자는 눈물로 내 발을 적시고, 자기 머리털로 닦았다. 45 너는 내게 입을 맞추지 않았으나, 이 여자는 들어와서부터 줄곧 내 발에 입을 맞추었다. 46 너는 내 머리에 기름을 발라 주지 않았으나, 이 여자는 내 발에 향유를 발랐다. 47 그러므로 내가 네게 말한다. 이 여자는 그 많은 죄를 용서받았다. 그것은 그가 많이 사랑하였기 때문이다. 용서받는 것이 적은 사람은 적게 사랑한다.” 48 그리고 예수께서 그 여자에게 말씀하셨다. “네 죄가 용서받았다.” 49 그러자 상에 함께 앉아 있는 사람들이 속으로 수군거리기를 “이 사람이 누구이기에 죄까지도 용서하여 준다는 말인가?” 하였다. 50 그러나 예수께서는 그 여자에게 말씀하셨다. “네 믿음이 너를 구원하였다. 평안히 가거라.”

LUKE 7

Jesus Heals //an Army Officer's Servant

(Matthew 8.5-13; John 4.43-54)

1 After Jesus had finished teaching the people, he went to Capernaum. 2 In this town an army officer's servant was sick and about to die. The officer liked his servant very much.

3 And when he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish leaders to ask him to come and heal the servant.
4 The leaders went to Jesus and begged him to do something. They said, “This man deserves your help! 5 He loves our nation and even built us a synagogue.”

6 So Jesus went with them.
When Jesus wasn't far from the house, the officer sent some friends to tell him, “Lord, don't go to any trouble for me! I am not good enough for you to come into my house. 7 And I am certainly not worthy to come to you. Just say the word, and my servant will get well.

8 I have officers who give orders to me, and I have soldiers who take orders from me. I can say to one of them, ‘Go!’ and he goes. I can say to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes. I can say to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he will do it.”

9 When Jesus heard this, he was so surprised that he turned and said to the crowd following him, “In all of Israel I've never found anyone with this much faith!”

10 The officer's friends returned and found the servant well.

A Widow's Son

11 Soon Jesus and his disciples were on their way to the town of Nain, and a big crowd was going along with them.

12 As they came near the gate of the town, they saw people carrying out the body of a widow's only son. Many people from the town were walking along with her.

13 When the Lord saw the woman, he felt sorry for her and said, “Don't cry!”
14 Jesus went over and touched the stretcher on which the people were carrying the dead boy. They stopped, and Jesus said, “Young man, get up!”

15 The boy sat up and began to speak. Jesus then gave him back to his mother.

16 Everyone was frightened and praised God. They said, “A great prophet is here with us! God has come to his people.”

17 News about Jesus spread all over Judea and everywhere else in that part of the country.

John the Baptist

(Matthew 11.1-19)

18-19 John's followers told John everything that was being said about Jesus. So he sent two of them to ask the Lord, “Are you the one we should be looking for? Or must we wait for someone else?”

20 When these messengers came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are you the one we should be looking for? Or are we supposed to wait for someone else?’ ”
21 At that time Jesus was healing many people who were sick or in pain or were troubled by evil spirits, and he was giving sight to a lot of blind people. 22 t Jesus said to the messengers sent by John, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard. Blind people are now able to see, and the lame can walk. People who have leprosyt are being healed, and the deaf can now hear. The dead are raised to life, and the poor are hearing the good news.

23 God will bless everyone who doesn't reject me because of what I do.”

24 After John's messengers had gone, Jesus began speaking to the crowds about John:
What kind of person did you go out to the desert to see? Was he like tall grass blown about by the wind? 25 What kind of man did you really go out to see? Was he someone dressed in fine clothes? People who wear expensive clothes and live in luxury are in the king's palace. 26 What then did you go out to see? Was he a prophet? He certainly was! I tell you that he was more than a prophet. 27 t In the Scriptures, God calls John his messenger and says, “I am sending my messenger ahead of you to get things ready for you.”

28 No one ever born on this earth is greater than John. But whoever is least important in God's kingdom is greater than John.
29  t Everyone had been listening to John. Even the tax collectorst had obeyed God and had done what was right by letting John baptize them.

30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the Law of Moses refused to obey God and be baptized by John.

31 Jesus went on to say:
What are you people like? What kind of people are you?

32 You are like children sitting in the market and shouting to each other,
“We played the flute,
but you would not dance!
We sang a funeral song,
but you would not cry!”
33 John the Baptist did not go around eating and drinking, and you said, “John has a demon in him!” 34 But because the Son of Man goes around eating and drinking, you say, “Jesus eats and drinks too much! He is even a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”

35 Yet Wisdom is shown to be right by what its followers do.

Simon the Pharisee

36 A Pharisee invited Jesus to have dinner with him. So Jesus went to the Pharisee's home and got ready to eat.t
37  t When a sinful woman in that town found out that Jesus was there, she bought an expensive bottle of perfume.

38 Then she came and stood behind Jesus. She cried and started washing his feet with her tears and drying them with her hair. The woman kissed his feet and poured the perfume on them.

39 The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this and said to himself, “If this man really were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him! He would know that she is a sinner.”

40 Jesus said to the Pharisee, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”
“Teacher, what is it?” Simon replied.
41 Jesus told him, “Two people were in debt to a moneylender. One of them owed him 500 silver coins, and the other owed him 50.

42 Since neither of them could pay him back, the moneylender said that they didn't have to pay him anything. Which one of them will like him more?”

43 Simon answered, “I suppose it would be the one who had owed more and didn't have to pay it back.”
“You are right,” Jesus said.
44 He turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Have you noticed this woman? When I came into your home, you didn't give me any water so I could wash my feet. But she has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. 45 You didn't greet me with a kiss, but from the time I came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You didn't even pour olive oil on my head, t but she has poured expensive perfume on my feet.

47 So I tell you that all her sins are forgiven, and that is why she has shown great love. But anyone who has been forgiven for only a little will show only a little love.”

48 Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49 Some other guests started saying to one another, “Who is this who dares to forgive sins?”
50 But Jesus told the woman, “Because of your faith, you are now saved.t May God give you peace!”
