Las mujeres que seguían a Jesús

1  Poco después, Jesús comenzó un recorrido por las ciudades y aldeas cercanas, predicando y anunciando la Buena Noticia acerca del reino de Dios. Llevó consigo a sus doce discípulos, 2 junto con algunas mujeres que habían sido sanadas de espíritus malignos y enfermedades. Entre ellas estaban María Magdalena, de quien él había expulsado siete demonios; 3 Juana, la esposa de Chuza, administrador de Herodes; Susana; y muchas otras que contribuían con sus propios recursos al sostén de Jesús y sus discípulos.

Parábola del sembrador

4 Cierto día, Jesús contó una historia en forma de parábola a una gran multitud, proveniente de varias ciudades, que se había reunido para escucharlo: 5 «Un agricultor salió a sembrar. A medida que esparcía las semillas por el campo, algunas cayeron sobre el camino, donde las pisotearon y los pájaros se las comieron. 6 Otras cayeron entre las rocas. Comenzaron a crecer, pero la planta pronto se marchitó y murió por falta de humedad. 7 Otras semillas cayeron entre espinos, los cuales crecieron junto con ellas y ahogaron los brotes. 8 Pero otras semillas cayeron en tierra fértil. Estas semillas crecieron, ¡y produjeron una cosecha que fue cien veces más numerosa de lo que se había sembrado!». Después de haber dicho esto, exclamó: «El que tenga oídos para oír, que escuche y entienda».

9 Sus discípulos le preguntaron qué significaba esta parábola.

10 Él respondió: «A ustedes se les permite entender los secretost del reino de Dios, pero utilizo parábolas para enseñarles a los demás y para que se cumplan las Escrituras:
“Cuando miren, no verán realmente.
Cuando oigan, no entenderán”t.

11 »Este es el significado de la parábola: la semilla es la palabra de Dios. 12 Las semillas que cayeron en el camino representan a los que oyen el mensaje, pero viene el diablo, se lo quita del corazón e impide que crean y sean salvos. 13 Las semillas sobre la tierra rocosa representan a los que oyen el mensaje y lo reciben con alegría; pero como no tienen raíces profundas, creen por un tiempo y luego se apartan cuando enfrentan la tentación. 14 Las semillas que cayeron entre los espinos representan a los que oyen el mensaje, pero muy pronto el mensaje queda desplazado por las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de esta vida. Así que nunca crecen hasta la madurez. 15 Y las semillas que cayeron en la buena tierra representan a las personas sinceras, de buen corazón, que oyen la palabra de Dios, se aferran a ella y con paciencia producen una cosecha enorme.

Parábola de la lámpara

16 »Nadie enciende una lámpara y luego la cubre con un tazón o la esconde debajo de la cama. Una lámpara se coloca en un lugar alto, donde todos los que entran a la casa puedan ver su luz. 17 Pues todo lo secreto tarde o temprano se descubrirá, y todo lo oculto saldrá a la luz y se dará a conocer a todos.

18 »Así que presten atención a cómo oyen. A los que escuchan mis enseñanzas se les dará más entendimiento; pero a los que no escuchan, se les quitará aun lo que piensan que entienden».

La verdadera familia de Jesús

19 Entonces la madre y los hermanos de Jesús vinieron a verlo, pero no pudieron acercarse a él debido a la gran cantidad de gente.

20 Alguien le dijo a Jesús:
—Tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera y quieren verte.

21 Jesús respondió:
—Mi madre y mis hermanos son todos los que oyen la palabra de Dios y la obedecen.

Jesús calma la tormenta

22 Cierto día Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos: «Crucemos al otro lado del lago». Así que subieron a una barca y salieron. 23 Mientras navegaban, Jesús se recostó para dormir una siesta. Pronto se desató una tormenta feroz sobre el lago. La barca se llenaba de agua y estaban realmente en peligro.

24 Los discípulos fueron a despertarlo: «¡Maestro! ¡Maestro! ¡Nos vamos a ahogar!», gritaron.
Cuando Jesús se despertó, reprendió al viento y a las tempestuosas olas. De repente la tormenta se detuvo, y todo quedó en calma.

25 Entonces les preguntó: «¿Dónde está su fe?».
Los discípulos quedaron aterrados y asombrados. «¿Quién es este hombre? —se preguntaban unos a otros—. Cuando da una orden, ¡hasta el viento y las olas lo obedecen!».

Jesús sana a un hombre endemoniado

26 Luego llegaron a la región de los gerasenos,t al otro lado del lago de Galilea. 27 Mientras Jesús bajaba de la barca, un hombre que estaba poseído por demonios salió a su encuentro. Por mucho tiempo, había estado desnudo y sin hogar, y vivía en un cementerio, en las afueras de la ciudad.

28 En cuanto vio a Jesús, soltó un alarido y cayó al suelo frente a él, y gritó: «¿Por qué te entrometes conmigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? ¡Por favor, te suplico que no me tortures!». 29 Pues Jesús ya le había ordenado al espíritu malignot que saliera del hombre. Ese espíritu a menudo tomaba control de él. Aun cuando el hombre estaba bajo custodia, con cadenas y grilletes, simplemente los rompía y se escapaba al desierto, totalmente controlado por el demonio.

30 Jesús le preguntó:
—¿Cómo te llamas?
—Legión —contestó, porque estaba lleno de muchos demonios.

31 Los demonios seguían suplicándole a Jesús que no los enviara al abismo sin fondo.t

32 Sucedió que había una gran manada de cerdos alimentándose en una ladera cercana, y los demonios le suplicaron que les permitiera entrar en los cerdos.
Entonces Jesús les dio permiso. 33 Así que los demonios salieron del hombre y entraron en los cerdos, y toda la manada se lanzó al lago por el precipicio y se ahogó.

34 Cuando los que cuidaban los cerdos vieron lo sucedido, huyeron a la ciudad cercana y sus alrededores, difundiendo la noticia mientras corrían. 35 La gente salió corriendo para ver lo que había pasado. Pronto una multitud se juntó alrededor de Jesús, y todos vieron al hombre liberado de los demonios. Estaba sentado a los pies de Jesús, completamente vestido y en su sano juicio, y todos tuvieron miedo. 36 Entonces los que habían visto lo sucedido, les contaron a los otros cómo había sido sanado el hombre poseído por demonios.

37 Y todos los habitantes de la región de los gerasenos le suplicaron a Jesús que se fuera y los dejara en paz, porque una gran ola de miedo se apoderó de ellos.
Entonces Jesús regresó a la barca y se fue y cruzó nuevamente al otro lado del lago. 38 El hombre que había sido liberado de los demonios le suplicaba que le permitiera acompañarlo. Pero Jesús lo envió a su casa diciéndole: 39 «No, regresa a tu familia y diles todo lo que Dios ha hecho por ti». Entonces el hombre fue por toda la ciudad proclamando las grandes cosas que Jesús había hecho por él.

Jesús sana en respuesta a la fe

40 Del otro lado del lago, las multitudes recibieron a Jesús porque lo estaban esperando. 41 Y un hombre llamado Jairo, líder de la sinagoga local, se acercó y cayó a los pies de Jesús mientras rogaba que lo acompañara a su casa.

42 Su única hija, que tenía unos doce años, estaba muriendo.
Mientras Jesús iba con Jairo, las multitudes lo rodeaban. 43 Una mujer de la multitud hacía doce años que sufría una hemorragia continuat y no encontraba ninguna cura. 44 Acercándose a Jesús por detrás, le tocó el fleco de la túnica. Al instante, la hemorragia se detuvo.

45 «¿Quién me tocó?», preguntó Jesús.
Todos negaron, y Pedro dijo:
—Maestro, la multitud entera se apretuja contra ti.

46 Pero Jesús dijo:
—Alguien me tocó a propósito, porque yo sentí que salió poder sanador de mí.

47 Cuando la mujer se dio cuenta de que no podía permanecer oculta, comenzó a temblar y cayó de rodillas frente a Jesús. A oídos de toda la multitud, ella le explicó por qué lo había tocado y cómo había sido sanada al instante. 48 «Hija —le dijo Jesús—, tu fe te ha sanado. Ve en paz».

49 Mientras él todavía hablaba con ella, llegó un mensajero de la casa de Jairo, el líder de la sinagoga, y le dijo: «Tu hija está muerta. Ya no tiene sentido molestar al Maestro».

50 Cuando Jesús oyó lo que había sucedido, le dijo a Jairo: «No tengas miedo. Sólo ten fe, y ella será sanada».

51 Cuando llegaron a la casa, Jesús no dejó que nadie entrara con él excepto Pedro, Juan, Santiago, y el padre y la madre de la niña. 52 La casa estaba llena de personas que lloraban y se lamentaban, pero Jesús dijo: «¡Dejen de llorar! No está muerta; sólo duerme».

53 La multitud se rió de él, porque todos sabían que había muerto. 54 Entonces Jesús la tomó de la mano y dijo en voz fuerte: «¡Niña, levántate!». 55 En ese momento, le volvió la vida,t ¡y se puso de pie enseguida! Entonces Jesús les dijo que le dieran de comer a la niña. 56 Sus padres quedaron conmovidos, pero Jesús insistió en que no le dijeran a nadie lo que había sucedido.

Women Who Helped Jesus

1 Soon after this, Jesus was going through towns and villages, telling the good news about God's kingdom. His twelve apostles were with him, 2 t and so were some women who had been healed of evil spirits and all sorts of diseases. One of the women was Mary Magdalene, t who once had seven demons in her.

3 Joanna, Susanna, and many others had also used what they owned to help Jesust and his disciples. Joanna's husband Chuza was one of Herod's officials.t

A Story about a Farmer

(Matthew 13.1-9; Mark 4.1-9)

4 When a large crowd from several towns had gathered around Jesus, he told them this story:
5 A farmer went out to scatter seed in a field. While the farmer was doing this, some of the seeds fell along the road and were stepped on or eaten by birds. 6 Other seeds fell on rocky ground and started growing. But the plants did not have enough water and soon dried up. 7 Some other seeds fell where thornbushes grew up and choked the plants.

8 The rest of the seeds fell on good ground where they grew and produced a hundred times as many seeds.
When Jesus had finished speaking, he said, “If you have ears, pay attention!”

Why Jesus Used Stories

(Matthew 13.10-17; Mark 4.10-12)

10 t So he answered:
I have explained the secrets about God's kingdom to you. But for others I use stories, so they will look, but not see, and they will hear, but not understand.

Jesus Explains the Story //about a Farmer

(Matthew 13.18-23; Mark 4.13-20)

13 The seeds that fell on rocky ground are the people who gladly hear the message and accept it. But they don't have deep roots, and they believe only for a little while. As soon as life gets hard, they give up.
14 The seeds that fell among the thornbushes are also people who hear the message. But they are so eager for riches and pleasures that they never produce anything.

15 Those seeds that fell on good ground are the people who listen to the message and keep it in good and honest hearts. They last and produce a harvest.

Light

(Mark 4.21-25)

18 t Pay attention to how you listen! Everyone who has something will be given more, but people who have nothing will lose what little they think they have.

Jesus' Mother and Brothers

(Matthew 12.46-50; Mark 3.31-35)

20 Someone told Jesus, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you.”

21 Jesus answered, “My mother and my brothers are those people who hear and obey God's message.”

A Storm

(Matthew 8.23-27; Mark 4.35-41)

23 and while they were sailing across, he went to sleep.
Suddenly a storm struck the lake, and the boat started sinking. They were in danger.

24 So they went to Jesus and woke him up, “Master, Master! We are about to drown!”
Jesus got up and ordered the wind and waves to stop. They obeyed, and everything was calm.

25 Then Jesus asked the disciples, “Don't you have any faith?”
But they were frightened and amazed. They said to each other, “Who is this? He can give orders to the wind and the waves, and they obey him!”

A Man with Demons in Him

(Matthew 8.28-34; Mark 5.1-20)

27 As Jesus was getting out of the boat, he was met by a man from this town. The man had demons in him. He had gone naked for a long time and no longer lived in a house, but in the graveyard.t
28 The man saw Jesus and screamed. He knelt down in front of him and shouted, “Jesus, Son of God Most High, what do you want with me? I beg you not to torture me!”

29 He said this because Jesus had already told the evil spirit to go out of him.
The man had often been attacked by the demon. And even though he had been bound with chains and leg irons and kept under guard, he smashed whatever bound him. Then the demon would force him out into lonely places.

30 Jesus asked the man, “What is your name?”
He answered, “My name is Lots.” He said this because there were “lots” of demons in him.

31 They begged Jesus not to send them to the deep pit, t where they would be punished.
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. So the demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and Jesus let them go.

33 Then the demons left the man and went into the pigs. The whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.
34 When the men taking care of the pigs saw this, they ran to spread the news in the town and on the farms.

35 The people went out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they also found the man. The demons had gone out of him, and he was sitting there at the feet of Jesus. He had clothes on and was in his right mind. But the people were terrified.
36 Then all who had seen the man healed told about it.

37 Everyone from around Gerasat begged Jesus to leave, because they were so frightened.
When Jesus got into the boat to start back, 38 the man who had been healed begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him off and said,

39 “Go back home and tell everyone how much God has done for you.” The man then went all over town, telling everything that Jesus had done for him.

A Dying Girl and a Sick Woman

(Matthew 9.18-26; Mark 5.21-43)

42 because his twelve-year-old child was dying. She was his only daughter.
While Jesus was on his way, people were crowding all around him.

43 In the crowd was a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years. She had spent everything she had on doctors, t but none of them could make her well.

44 As soon as she came up behind Jesus and barely touched his clothes, her bleeding stopped.

45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
While everyone was denying it, Peter said, “Master, people are crowding all around and pushing you from every side.”t
46 But Jesus answered, “Someone touched me, because I felt power going out from me.”

47 The woman knew that she could not hide, so she came trembling and knelt down in front of Jesus. She told everyone why she had touched him and that she had been healed at once.

48 Jesus said to the woman, “You are now well because of your faith. May God give you peace!”

49 While Jesus was speaking, someone came from Jairus' home and said, “Your daughter has died! Why bother the teacher anymore?”

50 When Jesus heard this, he told Jairus, “Don't worry! Have faith, and your daughter will get well.”
51 Jesus went into the house, but he did not let anyone else go with him, except Peter, John, James, and the girl's father and mother. 52 Everyone was crying and weeping for the girl. But Jesus said, “The child isn't dead. She is just asleep.”

53 The people laughed at him because they knew she was dead.
54 Jesus took hold of the girl's hand and said, “Child, get up!” 55 She came back to life and got right up. Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were surprised, but Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.
