Mujeres que servían a Jesús

1 Después de esto, Jesús andaba por todas las ciudades y aldeas, y allí proclamaba y anunciaba las buenas noticias del reino de Dios. Lo acompañaban los doce,2 y también algunas mujeres que habían sido sanadas de espíritus malignos y de enfermedades: María, a la que llamaban Magdalena, y de la que habían sido expulsados siete demonios;3 Juana, la mujer de Chuza, el intendente de Herodes; Susana, y muchas otras que los atendían con sus propios recursos.t

Parábola del sembrador

4 De cada ciudad acudía gente para ver a Jesús. Al reunirse una gran multitud, Jesús les relató esta parábola:5 «El sembrador salió a sembrar su semilla. Mientras sembraba, parte de ella cayó junto al camino, y fue pisoteada y las aves del cielo se la comieron.6 Otra parte cayó sobre las piedras, pero al brotar se secó por falta de humedad.7 Otra parte cayó entre los espinos, pero la ahogaron los espinos que brotaron con ella.

8 Otra parte cayó en buena tierra; y brotó y produjo una cosecha del ciento por uno.»
Y levantando la voz, dijo: «El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.»

9 Sus discípulos le preguntaron: «¿Qué significa esta parábola?»10 Y él les respondió: «A ustedes se les concede conocer los misterios del reino de Dios, pero a los otros se les habla en parábolas, para que viendo no vean, y oyendo no entiendan.t11 La parábola significa lo siguiente: La semilla es la palabra de Dios.12 Las semillas junto al camino son los que oyen, pero que luego viene el diablo y les quita del corazón la palabra, para que no crean y se salven.13 Las que cayeron sobre las piedras son los que, al oír la palabra, la reciben con gozo, pero como no tienen raíces, creen por algún tiempo, pero al llegar la prueba se apartan.14 Las que cayeron entre los espinos son los que oyen, pero se alejan y son ahogados por las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de la vida, y no dan fruto.15 Pero la semilla que cayó en buena tierra representa a los que con corazón bueno y recto retienen la palabra oída, y dan una buena cosecha porque permanecen firmes.

Nada hay oculto que no se manifieste

16 »Nadie que enciende una luz la cubre con un cajón, ni la coloca debajo de la cama. Más bien, la pone en un candelerot para que los que entren vean la luz.17 Porque no hay nada oculto que no llegue a manifestarse, ni hay nada escondido que no haya de ser conocido y de salir a la luz.t18 Escúchenme bien: a todo el que tiene, se le dará; y al que no tiene, hasta lo que cree tener se le quitará.»t

La madre y los hermanos de Jesús

19 La madre y los hermanos de Jesús fueron a donde él estaba, pero no podían acercarse a él por causa de la multitud.20 Alguien le dijo: «Tu madre y tus hermanos están allí afuera, y quieren verte.»21 Pero él respondió: «Mi madre y mis hermanos son los que oyen la palabra de Dios y la ponen en práctica.»

Jesús calma la tempestad

22 Un día, Jesús abordó una barca con sus discípulos, y les dijo: «Pasemos al otro lado del lago.» Y así lo hicieron.23 Mientras navegaban, Jesús se quedó dormido. Pero se desencadenó en el lago una tempestad con viento, de tal manera que la barca se inundó y corrían el peligro de naufragar.24 Los discípulos despertaron a Jesús y le dijeron: «¡Maestro, Maestro, estamos por naufragar!» Entonces Jesús despertó, reprendió al viento y a las olas, y éstas se sosegaron, y todo quedó en calma.25 Jesús les dijo: «¿Dónde está la fe de ustedes?» Pero ellos, temorosos y asombrados, se decían unos a otros: «¿Quién es éste, que hasta a los vientos y a las aguas les da órdenes, y lo obedecen?»

El endemoniado geraseno

26 Después arribaron a la tierra de los gerasenos, que está en la ribera opuesta a Galilea.27 Cuando él llegó a tierra, vino a su encuentro un hombre de la ciudad que estaba endemoniado. Hacía mucho tiempo que no se vestía ni vivía en una casa, sino en los sepulcros.28 Cuando el endemoniado vio a Jesús, se arrodilló delante de él, lanzó un fuerte grito, y le dijo: «Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo, ¿qué tienes que ver conmigo? ¡Te ruego que no me atormentes!»29 (Y es que Jesús le ordenaba al espíritu impuro que saliera del hombre porque hacía mucho tiempo que se había apoderado de él. Aunque lo ataban con cadenas y grilletes, él rompía las cadenas y el demonio lo llevaba a lugares apartados.)30 Jesús le preguntó: «¿Cómo te llamas?» Y él respondió: «Legión.» Porque eran muchos los demonios que habían entrado en él,31 y le rogaban a Jesús que no los mandara al abismo.32 Como allí había un gran hato de cerdos que pacían en el monte, los demonios le rogaron a Jesús que los dejara entrar en ellos; y él les dio permiso.33 Una vez fuera del hombre, los demonios entraron en los cerdos, y éstos se lanzaron al lago por un despeñadero, y allí se ahogaron.

34 Cuando los que apacentaban los cerdos vieron lo sucedido, huyeron y fueron a contar todo esto en la ciudad y por los campos.35 La gente salió a ver lo que había sucedido. Cuando llegaron a donde estaba Jesús, se encontraron con que el hombre, de quien habían salido los demonios, estaba sentado a los pies de Jesús, vestido y en su cabal juicio. Y tuvieron miedo.36 Los que habían visto todo esto, les contaron cómo había sido salvado el endemoniado.37 Entonces toda la gente de la región de los gerasenos le rogó a Jesús que se alejara de ellos, pues tenían mucho miedo. Así que Jesús entró en la barca y se fue.38 El hombre de quien habían salido los demonios le rogaba que lo dejara estar con él, pero Jesús lo despidió y le dijo:39 «Vuelve a tu casa, y cuenta allí todo lo que Dios ha hecho contigo.» Entonces el hombre se fue y contó por toda la ciudad lo que Jesús había hecho con él.

La hija de Jairo, y la mujer que tocó el manto de Jesús

40 Cuando Jesús regresó, la multitud lo recibió con alegría, pues todos lo estaban esperando.41 Llegó entonces un hombre llamado Jairo, que era jefe de la sinagoga. Este hombre se arrojó a los pies de Jesús y le rogó que fuera a su casa,

42 pues su única hija, que tenía como doce años, se estaba muriendo.
Mientras Jesús se dirigía a la casa de Jairo, la multitud lo apretujaba.43 Una mujer, que hacía doce años padecía de hemorragias y había gastado en médicos todo lo que tenía, sin que ninguno hubiera podido curarla,44 se le acercó por detrás y le tocó el borde del manto. Al instante, su hemorragia se detuvo.45 Entonces Jesús dijo: «¿Quién me ha tocado?» Todos negaban haberlo tocado, así que Pedro y los que estaban con él le dijeron: «Maestro, son muchos los que te aprietan y te oprimen.»46 Pero Jesús dijo: «Alguien me ha tocado. Yo sé bien que de mí ha salido poder.»47 Cuando la mujer se vio descubierta, se acercó temblorosa y se arrojó a los pies de Jesús, y delante de todo el pueblo le contó por qué lo había tocado, y cómo al instante había sido sanada.48 Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Hija, tu fe te ha sanado. Ve en paz.»

49 Mientras Jesús hablaba, alguien de la casa del jefe de la sinagoga llegó a decirle: «Tu hija ha muerto. No molestes más al Maestro.»50 Cuando Jesús oyó ésto, le dijo: «No temas. Sólo debes creer, y tu hija será sanada.»51 Jesús entró en la casa y no dejó que nadie entrara con él, excepto Pedro, Jacobo y Juan, y los padres de la niña.52 Todos estaban llorando y se lamentaban por ella. Pero él les dijo: «No lloren, que no está muerta, sino dormida.»53 La gente se burlaba de él, pues sabían que la niña estaba muerta;54 pero él la tomó de la mano, y con fuerte voz le dijo: «Niña, ¡levántate!»55 La niña volvió a la vida, y enseguida se levantó, y Jesús mandó que le dieran de comer.56 Sus padres estaban atónitos, pero Jesús les mandó que no dijeran a nadie lo que había sucedido.

Women Who Helped Jesus

1 Soon after this, Jesus was going through towns and villages, telling the good news about God's kingdom. His twelve apostles were with him, 2 t and so were some women who had been healed of evil spirits and all sorts of diseases. One of the women was Mary Magdalene, t who once had seven demons in her.

3 Joanna, Susanna, and many others had also used what they owned to help Jesust and his disciples. Joanna's husband Chuza was one of Herod's officials.t

A Story about a Farmer

(Matthew 13.1-9; Mark 4.1-9)

4 When a large crowd from several towns had gathered around Jesus, he told them this story:
5 A farmer went out to scatter seed in a field. While the farmer was doing this, some of the seeds fell along the road and were stepped on or eaten by birds. 6 Other seeds fell on rocky ground and started growing. But the plants did not have enough water and soon dried up. 7 Some other seeds fell where thornbushes grew up and choked the plants.

8 The rest of the seeds fell on good ground where they grew and produced a hundred times as many seeds.
When Jesus had finished speaking, he said, “If you have ears, pay attention!”

Why Jesus Used Stories

(Matthew 13.10-17; Mark 4.10-12)

10 t So he answered:
I have explained the secrets about God's kingdom to you. But for others I use stories, so they will look, but not see, and they will hear, but not understand.

Jesus Explains the Story //about a Farmer

(Matthew 13.18-23; Mark 4.13-20)

13 The seeds that fell on rocky ground are the people who gladly hear the message and accept it. But they don't have deep roots, and they believe only for a little while. As soon as life gets hard, they give up.
14 The seeds that fell among the thornbushes are also people who hear the message. But they are so eager for riches and pleasures that they never produce anything.

15 Those seeds that fell on good ground are the people who listen to the message and keep it in good and honest hearts. They last and produce a harvest.

Light

(Mark 4.21-25)

18 t Pay attention to how you listen! Everyone who has something will be given more, but people who have nothing will lose what little they think they have.

Jesus' Mother and Brothers

(Matthew 12.46-50; Mark 3.31-35)

20 Someone told Jesus, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you.”

21 Jesus answered, “My mother and my brothers are those people who hear and obey God's message.”

A Storm

(Matthew 8.23-27; Mark 4.35-41)

23 and while they were sailing across, he went to sleep.
Suddenly a storm struck the lake, and the boat started sinking. They were in danger.

24 So they went to Jesus and woke him up, “Master, Master! We are about to drown!”
Jesus got up and ordered the wind and waves to stop. They obeyed, and everything was calm.

25 Then Jesus asked the disciples, “Don't you have any faith?”
But they were frightened and amazed. They said to each other, “Who is this? He can give orders to the wind and the waves, and they obey him!”

A Man with Demons in Him

(Matthew 8.28-34; Mark 5.1-20)

27 As Jesus was getting out of the boat, he was met by a man from this town. The man had demons in him. He had gone naked for a long time and no longer lived in a house, but in the graveyard.t
28 The man saw Jesus and screamed. He knelt down in front of him and shouted, “Jesus, Son of God Most High, what do you want with me? I beg you not to torture me!”

29 He said this because Jesus had already told the evil spirit to go out of him.
The man had often been attacked by the demon. And even though he had been bound with chains and leg irons and kept under guard, he smashed whatever bound him. Then the demon would force him out into lonely places.

30 Jesus asked the man, “What is your name?”
He answered, “My name is Lots.” He said this because there were “lots” of demons in him.

31 They begged Jesus not to send them to the deep pit, t where they would be punished.
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. So the demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and Jesus let them go.

33 Then the demons left the man and went into the pigs. The whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.
34 When the men taking care of the pigs saw this, they ran to spread the news in the town and on the farms.

35 The people went out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they also found the man. The demons had gone out of him, and he was sitting there at the feet of Jesus. He had clothes on and was in his right mind. But the people were terrified.
36 Then all who had seen the man healed told about it.

37 Everyone from around Gerasat begged Jesus to leave, because they were so frightened.
When Jesus got into the boat to start back, 38 the man who had been healed begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him off and said,

39 “Go back home and tell everyone how much God has done for you.” The man then went all over town, telling everything that Jesus had done for him.

A Dying Girl and a Sick Woman

(Matthew 9.18-26; Mark 5.21-43)

42 because his twelve-year-old child was dying. She was his only daughter.
While Jesus was on his way, people were crowding all around him.

43 In the crowd was a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years. She had spent everything she had on doctors, t but none of them could make her well.

44 As soon as she came up behind Jesus and barely touched his clothes, her bleeding stopped.

45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
While everyone was denying it, Peter said, “Master, people are crowding all around and pushing you from every side.”t
46 But Jesus answered, “Someone touched me, because I felt power going out from me.”

47 The woman knew that she could not hide, so she came trembling and knelt down in front of Jesus. She told everyone why she had touched him and that she had been healed at once.

48 Jesus said to the woman, “You are now well because of your faith. May God give you peace!”

49 While Jesus was speaking, someone came from Jairus' home and said, “Your daughter has died! Why bother the teacher anymore?”

50 When Jesus heard this, he told Jairus, “Don't worry! Have faith, and your daughter will get well.”
51 Jesus went into the house, but he did not let anyone else go with him, except Peter, John, James, and the girl's father and mother. 52 Everyone was crying and weeping for the girl. But Jesus said, “The child isn't dead. She is just asleep.”

53 The people laughed at him because they knew she was dead.
54 Jesus took hold of the girl's hand and said, “Child, get up!” 55 She came back to life and got right up. Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were surprised, but Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.
