Predicación de Juan el Bautista

1 Principio del evangelio de Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios.2 Como está escrito en el profeta Isaías:«Yo envío a mi mensajero delante de ti,
El cual preparará tu camino.t

3 Una voz clama en el desierto:
“Preparen el camino del Señor;
Enderecen sus sendas.”»t


4 Juan se presentó en el desierto, y bautizaba y proclamaba el bautismo de arrepentimiento para el perdón de pecados.5 Toda la gente de la provincia de Judea y de Jerusalén acudía a él, y allí en el río Jordán confesaban sus pecados, y Juan los bautizaba.6 La ropa de Juan era de pelo de camello, alrededor de la cintura llevaba un cinto de cuero,t y se alimentaba de langostas y miel silvestre.7 Al predicar, Juan decía: «Después de mí viene uno más poderoso que yo. ¡Yo no soy digno de inclinarme ante él para desatarle la correa de su calzado!8 A ustedes yo los he bautizado con agua, pero él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo.»

El bautismo de Jesús

9 Por esos días llegó Jesús desde Nazaret de Galilea, y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán.10 En cuanto Jesús salió del agua, vio que los cielos se abrían y que el Espíritu descendía sobre él como una paloma.11 Y desde los cielos se oyó una voz que decía: «Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en quien me complazco.»t

Tentación de Jesús

12 Enseguida, el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto,13 y allí fue puesto a prueba por Satanás durante cuarenta días. Estaba entre las fieras, y los ángeles lo servían.

Jesús principia su ministerio

14 Después de que Juan fue encarcelado, Jesús fue a Galilea para proclamar el evangelio del reino de Dios.15 Decía: «El tiempo se ha cumplido, y el reino de Diost se ha acercado. ¡Arrepiéntanse,t y crean en el evangelio!»

Jesús llama a cuatro pescadores

16 Mientras Jesús caminaba junto al lago de Galilea, vio a Simón y a su hermano Andrés. Estaban echando la red al agua, porque eran pescadores.17 Jesús les dijo: «Síganme, y yo haré de ustedes pescadores de hombres.»18 Enseguida, ellos dejaron sus redes y lo siguieron.19 Un poco más adelante, Jesús vio a otros dos hermanos, Jacobo y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, quienes estaban en la barca y remendaban sus redes.20 Enseguida Jesús los llamó, y ellos dejaron a su padre Zebedeo en la barca con los jornaleros, y lo siguieron.

Un hombre con un espíritu impuro

21 Llegaron a Cafarnaún, y en cuanto llegó el día de reposo, Jesús fue a la sinagoga y se dedicó a enseñar.22 La gente se admiraba de sus enseñanzas, porque enseñaba como corresponde a quien tiene autoridad, y no como los escribas.t23 De pronto, un hombre que tenía un espíritu impuro comenzó a gritar en la sinagoga:24 «Oye, Jesús de Nazaret, ¿qué tienes contra nosotros? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? ¡Yo sé quién eres tú! ¡Eres el Santo de Dios!»25 Pero Jesús lo reprendió, y le dijo: «¡Cállate, y sal de ese hombre!»26 El espíritu impuro sacudió al hombre con violencia y, gritando con todas sus fuerzas, salió de aquel hombre.27 Todos quedaron muy asombrados, y se preguntaban unos a otros: «¿Y esto qué es? ¿Acaso es una nueva enseñanza? ¡Con toda autoridad manda incluso a los espíritus impuros, y éstos lo obedecen!»28 Y muy pronto la fama de Jesús se difundió por toda la provincia de Galilea.

Jesús sana a la suegra de Pedro

29 En cuanto salieron de la sinagoga, Jesús fue con Jacobo y Juan a la casa de Simón y Andrés.30 La suegra de Simón estaba en cama porque tenía fiebre, y enseguida le hablaron de ella.31 Jesús se acercó y, tomándola de la mano, la ayudó a levantarse. Al instante la fiebre se le fue, y ella comenzó a atenderlos.

Muchos sanados al ponerse el sol

32 Al anochecer, cuando el sol se puso, llevaron a Jesús a todos los que estaban enfermos y endemoniados.33 Toda la ciudad se agolpaba ante la puerta,34 y Jesús sanó a muchos que sufrían de diversas enfermedades, y también expulsó a muchos demonios, aunque no los dejaba hablar porque lo conocían.

Jesús predica en Galilea

35 Muy de mañana, cuando todavía estaba muy oscuro, Jesús se levantó y se fue a un lugar apartado para orar.36 Simón y los que estaban con él comenzaron a buscarlo,37 y cuando lo encontraron le dijeron: «Todos te están buscando.»38 Él les dijo: «Vayamos a las aldeas vecinas, para que también allí predique, porque para esto he venido.»39 Y Jesús recorrió toda Galilea; predicaba en las sinagogas y expulsaba demonios.t

Jesús sana a un leproso

40 Un leproso se acercó a Jesús, se arrodilló ante él y le dijo: «Si quieres, puedes limpiarme.»41 Jesús tuvo compasión de él, así que extendió la mano, lo tocó y le dijo: «Quiero. Ya has quedado limpio.»42 En cuanto Jesús pronunció estas palabras, la lepra desapareció y aquel hombre quedó limpio.43 Enseguida Jesús le pidió que se fuera, pero antes le hizo una clara advertencia.44 Le dijo: «Ten cuidado de no decírselo a nadie. Más bien, ve y preséntate ante el sacerdote, y ofrece por tu purificación lo que Moisés mandó,t para que les sirva de testimonio.»45 Pero una vez que aquel hombre se fue, dio a conocer ampliamente lo sucedido, y de tal manera lo divulgó que Jesús ya no podía entrar abiertamente en ninguna ciudad, sino que se quedaba afuera, en lugares apartados. Pero aun así, de todas partes la gente acudía a él.

The Preaching of //John the Baptist

(Matthew 3.1-12; Luke 3.1-18; John 1.19-28)

1 This is the good news about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.t

2 t It began just as God had said in the book written by Isaiah the prophet,
“I am sending my messenger
to get the way ready
for you.

3  t In the desert
someone is shouting,
‘Get the road ready
for the Lord!
Make a straight path
for him.’ ”

4 So John the Baptist showed up in the desert and told everyone, “Turn back to God and be baptized! Then your sins will be forgiven.”

5 From all Judea and Jerusalem crowds of people went to John. They told how sorry they were for their sins, and he baptized them in the Jordan River.

6  t John wore clothes made of camel's hair. He had a leather strap around his waist and ate grasshoppers and wild honey.
7 John also told the people, “Someone more powerful is going to come. And I am not good enough even to stoop down and untie his sandals.t

8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit!”

The Baptism of Jesus

(Matthew 3.13-17; Luke 3.21,22)

11 t A voice from heaven said, “You are my own dear Son, and I am pleased with you.”

Jesus and Satan

(Matthew 4.1-11; Luke 4.1-13)

13 He stayed there for 40 days while Satan tested him. Jesus was with the wild animals, but angels took care of him.

Jesus Begins His Work

(Matthew 4.12-17; Luke 4.14,15)

15 t He said, “The time has come! God's kingdom will soon be here.t Turn back to God and believe the good news!”

Jesus Chooses //Four Fishermen

(Matthew 4.18-22; Luke 5.1-11)

18 Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.
19 Jesus walked on and soon saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat, mending their nets.

20 At once Jesus asked them to come with him. They left their father in the boat with the hired workers and went with him.

A Man with an Evil Spirit

(Luke 4.31-37)

24 “Jesus from Nazareth, what do you want with us? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are! You are God's Holy One.”
25 Jesus told the evil spirit, “Be quiet and come out of the man!”

26 The spirit shook him. Then it gave a loud shout and left.
27 Everyone was completely surprised and kept saying to each other, “What is this? It must be some new kind of powerful teaching! Even the evil spirits obey him.”

28 News about Jesus quickly spread all over Galilee.

Jesus Heals Many People

(Matthew 8.14-17; Luke 4.38-41)

31 Jesus went to her. He took hold of her hand and helped her up. The fever left her, and she served them a meal.
32 That evening after sunset, t all who were sick or had demons in them were brought to Jesus. 33 In fact, the whole town gathered around the door of the house.

34 Jesus healed all kinds of terrible diseases and forced out a lot of demons. But the demons knew who he was, and he did not let them speak.
35 Very early the next morning before daylight, Jesus got up and went to a place where he could be alone and pray. 36 Simon and the others started looking for him.

37 And when they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you!”
38 Jesus replied, “We must go to the nearby towns, so that I can tell the good news to those people. This is why I have come.”

39 t Then Jesus went to their synagogues everywhere in Galilee, where he preached and forced out demons.

Jesus Heals a Man

(Matthew 8.1-4; Luke 5.12-16)

40 A man with leprosyt came to Jesus and knelt down.t He begged, “You have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.”
41 Jesus felt sorry fort the man. So he put his hand on him and said, “I want to! Now you are well.”

42 At once the man's leprosy disappeared, and he was well.
43 After Jesus strictly warned the man, he sent him on his way.

44 t He said, “Don't tell anyone about this. Just go and show the priest that you are well. Then take a gift to the temple as Moses commanded, and everyone will know that you have been healed.”t
45 The man talked about it so much and told so many people, that Jesus could no longer go openly into a town. He had to stay away from the towns, but people still came to him from everywhere.
